Virgin America lights up entire fleet with in-flight WiFi
Hold up AirTran -- not so fast with those wild claims of in-flight WiFi superiority. If you'll recall, the aforesaid airline proclaimed that it would soon be the first to have its entire fleet doused with Gogo, but it looks like Virgin America has swept in to claim that title. We should point out just how unfair the challenge is, though: VA has 28 planes as of today, whereas AirTran has 136. At any rate, we're still thrilled to see airlines duking it out in order to get more WiFi to more fliers, and we fully anticipate that every new aircraft added to Virgin America's fleet

Hulu rumored for September launch in UK
The free online video-on-demand (VOD) service, Hulu, may be expanding for the first time to a market outside of the US, with a launch in the UK as soon as September, the UK's Telegraph reported on Wednesday. Clarion outs FZ409 head unit with optical sensor
Clarion has recently released its new FZ409 automotive head unit that sports an optical touch sensor instead of traditional buttons for control. It can play back MP3, WMA and AAC formats while displaying ID3 Tags. First Philips Lumiblade OLED lights arrive
Philips has always pushed OLED lighting concepts, and it looks like the company's Lumiblade products will be the first to start shipping. The folks at OLED-Info got to play with some pre-production samples, and while they're definitely cool and impossibly slim, there are some notable drawbacks: the rectangular panel has some unfortunate "speckles," and overall they're just not very bright on their own, so you'll need quite a few for an actual lamp. Microsoft is desperate for gamers to adopt Windows SideShow
Microsoft really, really wants to convince you that in the high stakes world of multiple displays, SideShow is the only way to go. To that end, the company has put together a little white paper meant to sell us on the idea of using their product to for extra screen real estate as you flail about Azeroth (or whatever it is that you do in your free time). And it's not like we need to be sold on the concept -- we love our Mimo as much as the next guy or gal -- but as wary as companies have been of this technology, we're guessing that it'll take more than some fancy Photoshoppin' to get hardware vendors on board.

CheckUp 2.2 adds connection types, support tests
app4mac has produced an update to its Mac monitoring software, CheckUp 2.2. The new version gains compatibility with FireWire, USB, Ethernet, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. Sony Ericsson needs to raise 100 million euros to stay afloat, says CFO
Things haven't looked great for Sony Ericsson -- which reported its sales were down 50% during the first quarter -- for quite a piece of time now. Well, now Sony's CFO has admitted that falling demand combined with a "gap" in its product portfolio has created problems for the company. He also acknowledged that the company needs to raise about 100 million euros by the end of this fiscal year (March of 2010) to keep on trucking. Laser Matrix instructions will help you make an incredibly facile projector of your iPhone
A clever DIY-er wanted to add some semblance of projector capability to his iPhone, without -- you know -- actually adding a projector to his phone. He chose instead to use the phone in tandem with a 5 x 7 laser matrix, five 8-bit D latches for controlling the laser pointers, a microcontroller, and a bit of (somewhat complex looking) code for the iPhone, resulting in the ability to "spell" out messages on a wall, or other surface. CE-Oh no he didn't! NVIDIA calls Intel's single-chip Atom pricing "pretty unfair"
Now that Intel's been slapped with a record $1.45b antitrust fine in Europe, it seems like the claws are coming out -- AMD just put up that "Break Free" site, and today we've got NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang calling Chipzilla's Atom pricing "unfair." It seems that Intel sells the standard Atom chip for $45 on its own, but bundles the diminutive CPU into the oh-so-familiar netbook configuration for just $25, meaning NVIDIA's Ion chipset isn't price-competitive. YUBZ releases retractable CLIPO headset
YUBZ has released a new entry in its line of Bluetooth cellphone headsets, the CLIPO. The device features a separate earpiece with a retractable cord; this allows the main portion of the CLIPO to be attached to a person's shirt or jacket. iPhone has 40X more location apps than BlackBerry
Location-aware iPhone apps not only outnumber their BlackBerry counterparts by 40 to 1 but are less expensive as well, Skyhook Wireless said Wednesday. Gartner: Zahlen zum weltweiten Smartphone-Markt

Cablevision on track to deliver Network DVR this Summer
We all want the same thing right? The ability to watch any show we want, whenever we want, and wherever we want. Sounds easy, but even in this day and age to achieve this easily isn't possible. Currently there are a few ways this might happen down the road, and one that looks to be coming our way sooner rather than later is Cablevision's Network DVR. While a traditional DVR has a hard drive in it to store your shows, the Network DVR wouldn't. Instead it would stream the content from a centralized data store, like VOD. You'd still have to pre-schedule your recordings and presumably you'd still have a set limit, but ordering DVR service wouldn't require a new box and best of all, you should have access to all the same content in any room of the house. iPresentee hat das Paket iWeb Animations 2.0 veröffentlicht. Sure, the catalog of compatible games hasn't been as hefty as we'd like, but Sony has done quite a bit right with its PlayStation 3 / PSP Remote Play feature. Modder Dashhacker (with special thanks to noted PSP hacker Dark_AleX, among others) has released Open Remote Play v1.1 beta, which lets you take that same Remote Play experience onto your Windows PC or Intel-based Mac. The caveat here is that you'll still need a PSP handy to set up the application, so don't go thinking you can bypass the portable altogether. Wenn schon Apple ärgern, dann bitte besonders gründlich: RussianMac ist der neueste Anbieter von PCs mit vorinstalliertem Mac OS X 10.5. Die Angebotspalette reicht vom Netbook mit 8,9 Zoll Display über ein Multimedia-System bis hin zu einem professionellen Modell. Lediglich dem Xserve wird noch kein PC-Clone gegenübergestellt. HPs Gewinn bricht im zweiten Quartal um 17 Prozent ein

MSI Wind U200 gets the hands-on video treatment
We already got a pretty good look at MSI's new 12-inch Wind U200 at its debut at Computex in Taipei, but the folks at NewGadgets.de have had a chance to spend a bit more quality time with the not-quite-a-netbook, and they've thankfully provided a hands-on video (in both English and German no less). Daimler buys 10% stake in Tesla, offers parts and know-how
Daimler and Tesla have been working together in a limited capacity for some time now, but the two made their relationship official in a pretty big way earlier today, with Daimler announcing that it has bought a 10% stake in Tesla, and that it'll be lending a hand with both parts and engineering. Of course, as with most things Tesla, there's no firm price tag attached to the deal, although it's said to be in the "double digit millions." Those crazy kids over at Computer Shopper have got their hot hands on MSI's all-in-one Wind Top AE1900, and have been cool enough to share their thoughts with us.
