AT&T announces plans to expand netbook sales nationwide
It wasn't exactly hard to see this one coming, but AT&T has now officially announced that it'll soon be making 3G-equipped netbooks available at AT&T stores throughout the US (and on its website), following what the carrier has deemed to be a "successful" trial run in Atlanta and Philadelphia back in April. While complete details are still a bit light, AT&T will apparently be offering most if not all of the same netbooks that were available during that trial period, including various models from Acer, Dell and Lenovo. NVIDIA sued by own insurance company
NVIDIA's insurance company, The National Union Fire Insurance Company (NUFI) of Pittsburgh, filed a case in a California district court last week regarding NVIDIA's negotiations and settlement of other lawsuits the company faced from notebook makers regarding NVIDIA's faulty chipsets. DigiFi and Kleer out Digital Opera S2, S5 earbuds

Palm Pre to run $549 off-contract
We'd ventured a guess that the Pre would run close to $500 off-contract, and it looks like we were in the ballpark -- Sprint customer service is apparently telling people that Palm's first WebOS device will run $549 without a two-year commitment. That's just off-contract, not unlocked, mind you, so don't get any ideas about throwing this thing on Verizon. We're guessing most people will sign the papers on June 6th and pay $199 after rebate, so don't get too worked up -- just know that living a life free of attachment and responsibility will cost you $549 upfront.[Thanks

Sony Ericsson may ask for $136.5m bailout

Pre Day, June 6, is official...along with rebate pricing
Palm's Pre will be available nationwide on June 6 for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate (bad idea) and with a two-year contract on Sprint's Everything Data plan or Business Essentials with Messaging and Data plan. The Pre will also be sold online and at Best Buy, RadioShack, and some Walmart stores (alongside iPhones). Accessories like the $69.99 TouchStone wireless charger will also be available at launch.
As we mentioned, we think the rebate pricing is a really bad idea. We should also mention that we are excited to see how well Pre does. Any competition to Apple is only likely to make the iPhone a better product and AT&T a better service provider.

BlackBerry Storm 2 due next month?
Perhaps it should come as no surprise, given the pervasiveness of recent leaks, but word has it that the clickscreen-free BlackBerry Storm 2 could be hitting shelves as early as June, and no later than July. Word comes from Mr. BlackBerryOS.com himself, who got word from an "insider" who has proved reliable in the past. Knowledgebase Updates: Apple TV firewall settings, Earbud Shocks.
Apple has updated a couple of knowledgebase articles on how to configure firewalls on both Macintosh and Windows systems to work with Apple TVs. People frequently post on the Apple discussion boards about not being able to see their Apple TV devices in iTunes, and in many instances this is from firewall settings not allowing the connection through. This primarily affects Windows and pre-Leopard users, since Leopard uses a digitally signed firewall exception for iTunes.

BravoTunes for Mac displays iTunes track information
BravoBug has released BravoTunes, a new add-on for iTunes. The tool displays scrolling track information from iTunes within the Mac OS X Menu Bar, and includes controls used to pause and switch tracks, or change shuffle and repeat settings. Dell Studio One 19 reviewed, deemed totally sufficient but not awesome
Dell's touchscreen Studio One 19's been showboating around the States for a few weeks now, so it's no surprise to see the verdicts start rolling in. Computer Shopper's just reviewed the unit, and while they give it points for its slim and stylish form factor, and for the implementation of the touchscreen, they take away a few for the cloth-laden accents, and complain that the high-end models are expensive and underpowered. Pre Day, June 6, is official...along with rebate pricing
Palm's Pre will be available nationwide on June 6 for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate (bad idea) and with a two-year contract on Sprint's Everything Data plan or Business Essentials with Messaging and Data plan. The Pre will also be sold online and at Best Buy, RadioShack, and some Wal-mart stores (alongside iPhones). Accessories like the $69.99 TouchStone wireless charger will also be available at launch.
As we mentioned, we think the rebate pricing is a really bad idea. We should also mention that we are excited to see how well Pre does. Any competition to Apple is only likely to make the iPhone a better product and AT&T a better service provider.

In a difficult economic environment in USA and worldwide, Apple seemed to be less affected than other companies in the same market. Some data related to sales and published by NPD indicate that the current difficult economic environment started to hit Apple. Mac sales might have decreased by 1.8 % between March and April, almost negligible in volume, however, customers are now selecting entry-level models, those with the smallest margins for Apple. So, the related income might have gone down by 11 % over the same time period. And once again, Dell's website earns its informal title as the number one source for all Dell leaks. Though still not official for the US, the company's 20-inch ST2010 HD monitor has reared its widescreen head in the customization options for the Studio XPS desktop. Comparing its additive fees with the others on the list, we'd wager the retail price will end up somewhere in the $130 to $150 range. No indication on when we can pick up the monitor sans gaming rig, but it can't be too far off now.

Bei TUAW meldeten sich gehäuft Leser, die aktuell von einer MobileMe Phishing Attacke genervt werden. Dabei geht es nach dem “bekannten” Prinzip, die Betrüger versuchen die MobileMe-User über eine täuschend echt gestaltete Mail auf die eigene Seite zu locken und dort die Kreditkarteninformationen abzugreifen. Trend Micro meldet Gewinnzuwachs im ersten Quartal
Trend Micro hat im ersten Quartal seinen Nettogewinn gegenüber dem Vergleichszeitraum des Vorjahres um fünf Prozent auf 4,8 Milliarden Yen (37 Millionen Euro) gesteigert. Der Umsatz des japanischen Sicherheitsanbieters sank in diesem Zeitraum von 25,6 Milliarden Yen (197,8 Millionen Euro) auf 22,9 Milliarden Yen (177 Millionen Euro). Dies entspricht einem Minus von rund 10 Prozent.

LG world's thinnest LCD is only 0.23 inches thick

Is the AppStore Really a Cash-Machine for Apple?
While Apple heavily communicated about the billionth application downloaded on the AppStore, some analysts tried to evaluate how much cash this iPhone-dedicated online software shop might have generated for Apple. Indeed, it includes both free and fee-based applications, and despite this achievement of having already more than one billion iPhone app downloaded, it might have brought Apple "only" 70 to 160 millions USD (income). If one removes the infrastructure/hardware/software investments associated with updating/upgrading the iTunes Store (as the AppStore is nothing else than a category of the iTunes Store), Apple's margin on sales of 30%, at the end, it might only bring 20 to 45 millions of the company. Up to now, there were only tow ways to purchase officially a graphic card compatible with our Mac: either from the Apple Store, or directly from ATI/AMD online store. Following the future availability of the GeForce GTX 285 in June, we were reporting that the distribution channel for NVidia cards will evolve. NVidia selected partners for different parts of the world to be responsible for manufacturing/supplying Mac Edition cards. It includes the Pro-oriented card Quadro FX4800.

According to Businessweek, AT&T might be thinking of decreasing the prices of the iPhone subscription plans, with a potential entry ticket at 20 USD. Of course, at such low price, many features will not be included and/or limited, however, it could further open the iPhone-linked market, in other words the AppStore Of course, in USA, subscription plans for mobile phones include both receiving and emitting calls, while in Europe an iPhone owner will only pay (or use minutes included in his plan) for calls he emits. This explains the difference of free hours call included in iPhone-bundled plans in USA and in Europe. Virtual Programming has released its two newest games, Fireglow's The Golden Path of Plumeboom for the iPhone and iPod touch, and Phantom EFX's Real Deal Card Games 2009 for Mac. Laut Cult of Mac sucht Apple derzeit in sechs US-Städten nach neuen Mitarbeitern zur Verstärkung des Support-Teams. ISB Corp assimilates Android into STB

Bookeen outs pocket-sized Cybook Opus e-book reader
Details are not totally clear at this point, but Bookeen recently teased its newest e-book reader offering -- the Cybook Opus -- during a presentation. Samsung i7500 to be renamed Galaxy, released in France in early July

Trackpad options missing in OS X
In previous versions of OS X, there was an option for laptops to ignore trackpad input when a mouse or other pointer device was connected. For some users, however, the option to disable the trackpad when a mouse is present is missing in OS X 10.5.6, and more still have noticed this feature gone after updating to 10.5.7.
