ACE robot asks for directions, purpose in life
The Tweenbots project already demonstrated that at least some folks are willing to help a lost robot find its way, but this new ACE bot developed by researchers at the Technical University of Munich has now ramped things up in a fairly big way, with it actually asking passers-by for directions and developing a map as it moves through the city. Mehr Gerüchte: Touch und Nano mit Kamera
Vor der Apple-Entwicklerkonferenz WWDC und dem anstehenden iPhone-Update wirft die französische Webseite Macbidouille wirft zwei interessante Gerüchte in die Runde:
Gehäuse und Form des iPhone 3G bleiben wie gehabt, die Neuerungen verstecken sich also allesamt "unter der Haube".
Die nächsten Generationen der iPod-Modelle Touch und Nano kommen mit eingebauter Digitalkamera
Die Informationen stammen aus einer Macbidouille offensichtlich bekannten Quelle und das zweite der beiden Gerüchte ist sicherlich das interessantere. Zumindest beim iPod touch wäre eine derartige Weiterentwicklung gut vorstellbar. Bis es allerdings so weit ist ziehen noch ein paar Tage ins Land, für iPod-Hardwareupdates hat Apple bekanntlich den Monat September fest im Plan.

Meizu promises updated M8 with 3G, GPS
Meizu's planned sequel to the M8, its at times controversial shadow to the iPhone, is now said by company chief J. Wong to be a significant but more evolutionary upgrade. In place of a complete overhaul, the Chinese executive says the phone will support both China-native 3G through the TD-SCDMA standard as well as GPS. Fujitsu's supercomputer-ready Venus CPU said to be "world's fastest"
Due to the intrinsic limitations of machine translation, it's hard to say exactly what makes Fujitsu's latest supercomputer the "world's fastest," but we'll hesitantly believe for the time being. We're told that the SPARC64 VIIIfx (codename Venus) can churn through 128 billion calculations per second, which supposedly bests the current champ -- a chip from Intel -- by 2.5 times. Macbidouille is reporting that iPod Nanos and Touch will receive cameras during their traditional fall updates. It isn't hard to see how the iPod Touch will receive the iPhone's camera, iPod Touches have been slowly catching up to the iPhone's functionality, getting Bluetooth, speakers, and mic-in. McAfee und Symantec planen Software für das iPhone
Durch die Popularität des iPhones ist auch dieses Mobiltelefon vor Viren nicht gefeit. Canon's EOS-1D / EOS-1Ds Mark III leaking oil all over your precious images
As if the Canon EOS-1D Mark III autofocus issues weren't enough, the company has issued yet another service notice for it and its sibling, the EOS-1Ds Mark III. It looks like the cameras' mirror box has the potential to leak lubricant -- causing the excess oil to end up on the surface of the low pass filter, whereupon your award-winning pictures exhibit large, ring-shaped spots. So there you have it -- it wasn't your lousy photographic skills after all! Dashboard may prevent Web plug-in and other installations
Dashboard widgets are small, independent JavaScript code modules that are run separately from the standard JavaScript environment, which is the Web browser. In fact, you can open widgets in most browsers and have them function quite similarly to how they behave in Dashboard. As such, when you launch Dashboard, you're basically launching a Web browser environment that can use the same plug-ins that your browser uses. This also means that when you try to update some software that requires Web-based environments to be shut down (Adobe updates--Reader, Flash, and so on), the dashboard can prevent them from being installed.

Fit-PC 2 nettop stays slim, gets an Atom upgrade
The original Fit-PC slim may have been able to proclaim itself the "world's smallest," but with an 500MHz AMD Geode processor and no more than 512MB of RAM, it had a bit of difficulty with the "PC" side of the equation. Fit-PC looks to have gone some way towards improving that with its new Fit-PC 2, however, which matches the current nettop ranks by adding your choice of an Atom Z530 or Z510 processor. Otherwise, you can expect the usual 1GB of RAM, your choice of 2.5-inch SATA hard drive, built-in WiFi, a generous six USB ports, HDMI out, XP or Ubuntu for an OS, and support for full 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. Nokia and Intel collaborating on new Linux-based phone OS called oFono
Between Android and the myriad of LiMo builds out there, we're not sure the world needs another open-source phone operating system, but Nokia and Intel seem to think differently: the two behemoths have joined up to develop oFono, a Linux-based mobile OS for GSM handsets. We don't know many details, but he project seems to be pulling people from both Intel's Moblin initiative and Nokia's Maemo project, and job postings from a "major handset company" searching for a GUI designer in either Dallas or San Jose have appeared, so it sounds like something big is in the works. Did Mac OS X 10.5.7 Modify Management of Multithreaded Tasks?
When the Nehalem-based Mac Pro were released, many users noticed that the single Quad Core Xeon CPU model was faster than the corresponding dual Quad Core CPU model with many applications, Adobe Photoshop included. In fact, it was a bit like if OS X was loosing time in distributing work load and collecting and interpretatin results on a larger number of cores. Cube H200D PMP adds an HDMI output, a few color options
Cube already caught us off guard last month with a 1080i-capable PMP, and this month it's outdoing itself once more. FreeBit app converts iPhones into web servers
Japanese developer FreeBit has released an English version of ServersMan, a free application which converts iPhones and iPod touches into web servers. Macbidouille is reporting that iPod Nanos and Touch will receive cameras during their traditional Fall updates. It isn't hard to see how the iPod touch will receive the iPhone's camera, iPod touches have been slowly catching up to the iPhone's functionality, getting Bluetooth, speakers, and mic-in. Zwar wurde der Angriff bislang weder von Apple noch von Amazon bestätigt, einen Gegenbeweis für die von "orin0co" veröffentlichten Screenshots gibt es jedoch auch nicht. IPv6-Rat verabschiedet nationalen Aktionsplan
In einem "Nationalen Aktionsplan" hat der IPv6-Rat auf einem Gipfeltreffen am Potsdamer Hasso-Plattner-Institut (HPI) gefordert, dass IPv6 bis 2010 für mindestens 25 Prozent der deutschen Nutzer verfügbar sein soll, ohne dass sie einen Unterschied zum bisherigen Standard feststellen. Pentax offers Optio E75 starter camera
Pentax today brought out an update to its most basic cameras in the Optio E75. The compact maintains the 10-megapixel sensor and 3X optical zoom of the E70 but grows the preview LCD from 2.4 to 2.7 inches. There's something to be said about a car that gets 100 miles per gallon and floats. We're still trying to figure out what exactly that phrase is, but we're certain something has to be exclaimed. Designer Lon Ballard has concocted the, um, object you see above, which is actually an automobile modeled after Crocs and built almost entirely from foam. Toshiba release a portable fitted with a SSD of 512 GB
Toshiba has put on sale the first portable computer fitted with a 512 GB SSD
Of course, this disc is one produced by Toshiba and it makes a point of the exclusiveness of its products. This disk is announced to have data flows of 230 MB/s while reading and 180 MB/s in writing. In addition to this SSD, the computer has a low consumption CPU and large batteries, that gives a battery life exceeding 12 hours.
Even if the price of the naked SSD is not known, the computer will be marketed starting from 3200 Euros, which makes it very expensive for a machine equipped with a Core 2 Duo running at 1,4 GHz.

Did Mac OS X 10.5.7 Modify Management of Multhreaded Tasks?
When the Nehalem-based Mac Pro were released, many users noticed that the single Quad Core Xeon CPU model was faster than the corresponding dual Quad Core CPU model with many applications, Adobe Photoshop included. In fact, it was a bit like if OS X was loosing time in distributing work load and collecting and interpretatin results on a larger number of cores. Steve Jobs' Amazon account hacked? 20,000 items in 10 years?
According to Cult of Mac's Leander Kahney, a hacker by the name of “orin0co” had phished Steve Jobs' Amazon password using a fake Amazon page awhile ago and has been pulling data out of it for the last few years. He's recently been sending out screenshots to journalists saying the highest bidder will get the pharmed information. He/she claims that the purchasing record includes 20,000 items over the last 10 years. Who says no one reads anymore?!
If true, this could be quite a crime. However, a screenshot and an email aren't really enough to believe this person yet. You could just change your name to "Steve Jobs" in Amazon's settings, take some screenshots

Why are Atom-based Hackintoshes seeing battery life changes in 10.5.7?
Sure, it could be nothing, and probably is. But what if all of these drastic changes we are seeing in Intel Atom-based Hackintoshes on 10.5.7 mean something about upcoming Apple hardware? Some points to consider:
10.5.1 - 10.5.6 there were little to no changes in Hackintoshes beyond what was stated in the update
10.5.7 updates bricked many Hackintoshes (it even gave a lot of real Macs some issues)

Though its fun to think of the Body Area Network as another way for cheap employers to get out of paying for properly wiring your workspace, the most obvious uses for this technology would seem to be in the realm of health care. To this end, the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in Japan has developed an ECG that can be worn 24 hours a day, wirelessly transmitting electrocardiographic data as well as measuring changes in body surface temperature and posture. The data can even be transmitted securely using cryptographic keys dynamically generated by the patient's posture and biological data (which are unique to each user).

Verwirrung um HDMI 1.4
Für die auf der CES im Januar 2009 angekündigte Version 1.4 der Schnittstelle HDMI ist Medienberichten zufolge die endgültige Spezifikation verabschiedet worden. Von Anfang Juni bis Ende August 2009 verzichtet Vodafone auf die Erhebung von Roaminggebühren, wenn Vodafone-Kunden im Ausland mit dem Handy telefonieren. Vodafone UK: Roaming-Gebühren abgeschafft

BVV: Blu-ray-Erfolg kompensiert sinkenden DVD-Umsatz
Die Zahl der in Deutschland verkauften DVDs ist nicht nur rückläufig, durch Preisaktionen sank im ersten Quartal 2009 auch der Umsatz. Nokia launching 'high-end handset' with capacitive touchscreen in Q3?
DigiTimes has a couple of back-to-back rumors from its industry sources that could be of interest to Nokia fans. Yesterday, the Taiwanese rumor rag said that Nokia will adopt a Synaptics touchscreen integrated circuit (which may or may not support multi-touch) solution for an upcoming "high-end handset" due for launch in the 3rd quarter of 2009. To be clear, this is not the N97 which is expected to go on sale in June. Now DigiTimes adds that capacitive touch panel orders from Nokia have been received from Wintek, the same supplier fitting Nokia's 5800 with resistive touchscreens. We're big fans of silky smooth, capacitive glass panels on finger-friendly touchscreen phones so we'll be stoked if these rumors prove true.

Kompletter PC in einer Tastatur

Xing meldet 43-prozentige Umsatzsteigerung
Xing hat seinen Umsatz dank wachsender Mitgliederzahlen in den ersten drei Monaten des Jahres 2009 auf 10,76 Millionen Euro gesteigert. Ebay: Rotes iPhone und leerer Karton
Rudi schickt uns den Link zu diesem roten iPhone. Das SIM-Lock-freie Gerät wurde fein säuberlich umlackiert, selbst die Kartenschublade hat man nicht vergessen.
Zur Vorsicht beim Ebay-Kauf warnt dieser Link von Jensen. Hier wurden offensichtlich 100 Euro für einen leeren Karton bezahlt. Den Hinweis "sie bieten nur auf die Verpackung" muss man bei all dem unnützen Text aber auch wirklich suchen - seriös sieht anders aus.

Google-Anzeigen dürfen jetzt Markennamen enthalten
Google hat die US-Richtlinien seines Diensts Adwords geändert. Mit Schlüsselwörtern verknüpfte Anzeigen dürfen jetzt erstmals durch Warenzeichen geschützte Begriffe (Trademarks) enthalten. Diese Änderung hat aber nichts mit dem häufig kritisierten Umstand zu tun, dass geschützte Begriffe selbst als Schlüsselwort vergeben werden - teils auch an Konkurrenten des Rechteinhabers. Wie Wired mit Verweis auf Hackintosh-Berichte meldet, soll Mac OS X 10.5.7 möglicherweise auch Optimierungen für Intels Atom-System enthalten. Heute endet in Zürich die diesjährige Orbit, es wird die Letzte gewesen sein. Die Orbit-iEX war die bedeutendste Computermesse der Schweiz, schrumpfte jedoch in den letzten Jahren immer mehr und füllte dieses Jahr nur noch knapp zwei Hallen des Zürcher Messegeländes. Wenn schon verklagen, dann richtig und gründlich: Tune Hunter wurde 2005 ein Patent für ein System zur Identifizierung von Musik zugesprochen, welches dem Shazam-Musikservice ähnelt. Die gleichnamige iPhone-Anwendung für letzteren Dienst ermöglicht durch kurze Aufnahme eines Samples die Suche eines Songs in der Shazam-Datenbank. Apple warb mit der Anwendung auch für den App Store. Beides ist Tune Hunter ein Dorn im Auge.

[Rumors] Informations about the Future iPhone and iPod
We have received couple of informations from one of our sources regarding the future iPhone and iPod:
The future iPhone models will have exactly the same shape and size than the current iPhone 3G, despite fakes and rumors circulating.
Apple should refresh models for the iPod nano and Touch in september. Both should now include a camera, similarly to the iPhone.

Does Mac OS X 10.5.7 Improve Battery Lifetime?
The new Mac OS X 10.5.7 version has modified numerous extensions in the system. according to Wired,some of those modifications might have improved battery lifetime up to 33% on a Hackintosh.
Due to a lack of time and material, we could not immediately confirm such information. So, there are two solutions: either Apple indeed worked hard and deep to improve battery lifetime especially power management, or nothing changed and Hackintosh are now recognized as more "Mac native" and can benefit from the pre-existing power management tools included in Mac OS X. Apple might have included options dedicated to ATOM processors, often powering hackintosh, so it could also be an explanation. Last but not least, the user reporting this information might have fixed an unknown bug with this new version, such as a silent power-draining end-less process in the

METROBuddy electric car debuts, kind of resembles a mail van
Looking from behind, one might assume that the METROBuddy is an electric car with style. Unfortunately, those hopes are dashed when peeking the whole whip from the side, as you suddenly become overwhelmed with hints of USPS mail van, garbage truck and a rather large protractor. Design gripes aside, our good pals over at AutoblogGreen were able to sneak a peek at the bantam automobile, which supposedly packs a range of around 50 to 75 miles on a full charge. Memorex TouchMP PMP gets reviewed: not bad for $99
Memorex's TouchMP MP3 player may not exactly do much to stand out from the pack of PMPs, but it does only cost $99, which is no doubt enough to earn it some serious consideration from at least some potential customers. According to the folks at CNET, however, while they likely won't find themselves too disappointed by the player, they also shouldn't expect something that rivals ones costing twice as much. On the upside, while the touchscreen interface isn't much to look at, it apparently does get the job done fairly effectively, and the player itself boasts a pretty impressive battery life of 50 hours for music or 3 hours for video. Steve Jobs' Amazon account hacked?
Steve Jobs' Amazon account has supposedly been hacked, claims an individual identifying himself as "orin0co," according to Cult of Mac. The hacker asserts he was able to gain access to the account by sending Jobs a forged, official-looking e-mail to Jobs, tricking the Apple CEO to log into a fake Amazon account, and subsequently providing the hacker with the personal login information.
