Philips SBD7000, SBD8100 iPod docks get the hands-on treatment
It may not stand out from the crowd quite as much as some iPod docks, but Philips' rotating SBD7000 speaker dock should still turn a few heads, and keep you entertained for at least a few minutes as you spin and tilt your iPod to your heart's content. Trash not working--files deleting immediately
When you normally delete files, either by dragging them to the Trash, using a system or contextual menu, or by using the Command-Delete hot key, OS X will move the file to the Trash where it will wait for permanent deletion. This safeguards against accidental deletion and provides a way to review files before final deletion.

"Sheila, the Filmmaker" PC Hunters ad, made on a Mac
This isn't going to surprise anyone who has been anywhere near a digital video production environment, but those 'Laptop Hunters' ads are probably built on a Mac. The Filmmaker Sheila one seems especially ironic.
Wired reports that Microsoft's Ad agency, Crispin Porter + Bogusky is full of Macs including Bogusky himself who has two Macs on his desk (below). It is hard to prove that Macs are unneccesarily expensive when your agency won't even give them up. In other news, Microsoft laid of 3,000 people today.

Rogers to charge for inbound, non-plan SMS
Canadian carrier Rogers is likely to follow Bell and Telus in beginning to charge for incoming text messages outside of its normal plans. Microsoft's motion-sensing Xbox 360 add-on a result of 3DV acquisition?
We've already gotten a pretty thorough rundown of the motion-sensing Xbox 360 add-on that Microsoft supposedly has in store for this year's E3, and it looks like the folks at Ars Technica have now pieced together a few more of the pieces and figured out exactly where the device might have came from. Sony OLED Walkman impressions
Considering that we're holding a Japanese unit in our hands, our impressions of Sony's OLED Walkman will be somewhat limited. Apple to acquire Twitter? [Update: Electronic Arts too?]
That's the rumor that Techcrunch is throwing out there this morning. The cash amount? $700 million. Does this make sense for Apple? Where would it fit?
Google tried to buy it but was rebuffed by Twitter CEO Evan Williams, says a source with knowledge of the talks. Today, though, rumors popped up that Apple may be looking to buy Twitter. “Apple is in late stage negotiations to buy Twitter and is hoping to announce it at WWDC in June,” said a normally reliable source this evening, adding that the purchase price would be $700 million in cash.

Epson has announced that its printers are now supported by EuroSmartz's Print & Share app for the iPhone and iPod touch. Miles Electric's totally electric family sedan one step closer to existence
Miles Electric has confirmed that it's working on a family sedan-sized all electric car for release in North America sometime next year. The car -- which will be released under a different, unknown brandname -- will be a first for the company, which specializes in neighborhood cars that only go up to about 25 miles per hour. The sedan will have a top speed of around 80 miles per hour, and a 100 mile range. It will also require 8-12 hours to fully recharge its dead lithium-ion battery. Miles is currently running the vehicle though crash tests, and expects to see about 300 of them on the road in California sometime next year. The going rate for one of these? That's the rumor that Techcrunch is throwing out there this morning. The cash amount? $700 million. Does this make sense for Apple? Where would it fit?
Google tried to buy it but was rebuffed by Twitter CEO Evan Williams, says a source with knowledge of the talks. Today, though, rumors popped up that Apple may be looking to buy Twitter. “Apple is in late stage negotiations to buy Twitter and is hoping to announce it at WWDC in June,” said a normally reliable source this evening, adding that the purchase price would be $700 million in cash.

Joystiq reported back in April that Patapon 2's release would be a UMD-less affair, and now it's officially here. Intel Capital hat vier Prozent der ausstehenden 54 Millionen Aktien von ASM International (ASMI) gekauft. Ergebnis nach Maß für Apple: Im jüngsten Consumer Report konnte Apple in den drei Kategorien für Notebooks jeweils den ersten Platz belegen. Über die Verflechtungen von Google und Apple möchte man nun aber genauer Bescheid wissen und hat deshalb eine Untersuchung veranlasst. Auslöser der Untersuchung ist die Mitgliedschaft von Eric E. Larger Kindle coming this week? Competition for Apple's Tablet? (Update: Wednesday)
According to the New York Times, Amazon is going to release a bigger version of the Kindle soon, possibly as early as this week. The device will be aimed at newspapers and large format magazines who have been hit extremely hard by ad spending downturns. Like it or not, the Blackberry did have a strong quarter according to NPD. The Blackberry comes in more varieties, often much cheaper than the iPhone and it is available on every wireless network - including what many percieve to be the best in the US, Verizon. New External battery helps MacBook Air last up to 32 hours.
Sometimes you're away from a power supply longer than your battery will allow you. It'd be nice to have a swapable battery but Apple seems to be going away from that idea in its latest product offerings. What to do? One (bad) option is carrying around a heavy UPS. A better option just came up:

New Application Parental Controls to let Apple put adult content on iPhone
Apple will soon have an excuse to slang those controversial potty-mouth NIN apps to all of your kids. In version 3 of the iPhone and in iTunes 8.2 (image below) you can now select parental control for apps and choose the age of the iPhone owner. The choices are 4+, 9+, 12+, 17+. When version 3 of the iPhone is released, Apple will allow more adult-themed applications to go thru the app store, albeit with NC-17 ratings.

DDRdrive X1: Combining RAM and SSD
The DDRdrive is a product rather difficult to place in a defined category.
Based on a PCI Express 1x card, it features 4x 1GB DDR modules associated to a SSD of the same capacity. If its writing and reading performance might now look standard to other SSD with respectively 250 MBs and 150 MB/s, it nevertheless offer up to 300,000 input/output per second, in other words 10 fold than the Intel SSD so far considered as the reference.If the storage capacity is low, you can add several unit of DDRdrive to pool them. Such solution might be interesting for some data servers manipulating thousands of files of small sizes. As you already understood it, the associated SSD is only used to backup the data priori switching off the computer. According to the manufacturer it only takes one minute to complete this operation.

Radeon HD 4890: Overclocked in a Mac
Once settles the compatibility problems of a PC Radeon HD4890 in a Mac Pro, we have been looking at its ability to be overclocked. After the installation procedure described yesterday, it was rather simple to modify the BIOS located in the plist extension to overclock the card without flashing it. We have successfully pushed the GPU frequency to 920 MHz (vs. 850 MHz originally) and 1080 MHz for the memory (vs 975 MHz).
The performance gain of such overclock is between 8 to 9%, if this is not huge, it might not be negligible when considering the potential of this card. If the card perfectly supported such overclocked, our ears noticed the difference. The card is already a bit noisy when loading it with 3D associated tasks, but when overclocked, event 2D tasks makes it more than audible. It's still an elusive target for our old friend Mr. Blurrycam, but we just got some basic specs on the new, decidedly more newspaper- and college textbook-friendly Amazon Kindle DX. The concept of turning waste heat into energy is hardly new, but it looks like it's getting a little closer to your engine these days.
