EA releases Star Trek game for iPhone, iPod touch
Electronic Arts has debuted a new Star Trek game for the iPhone and iPod touch, designed to capitalize on the latest movie. The action game has players captain the USS Enterprise on a host of missions, during which Kirk and Spock make appearances and help gamers along. Players also fight against and alongside ships from series fiction, such as the Keldon, Valdore and Kítinga.

AT&T to buy remainders of Alltel assets?
AT&T is nearing buying up most of the markets Verizon has to shed from Alltel as part of its buyout, purported sources said on Friday. Of the 24 areas that won't be rolled into Verizon's network, AT&T is believed to be buying 18 and would leave the remaining six for smaller carriers as well as private equity firms. It's not known how close a deal may be.

Calcline 2.0 offers redesigned interface, bug fixes
Tension Software has announced Calcline 2.0, an upgraded version of its mathematical tool for the Mac. Calcline relies on a C/Cocoa calculation engine to solve both simple and complex mathematical equations, while simultaneously displaying each step used. Spotify denies rumor of offering unlimited downloads
UK-based music download site Spotify has denied it will offer unlimited downloads in an attempt to lure listeners away from established names that include iTunes and Napster, Pocket-lint reported on Friday. The rumor had Spotify planning to launch an "unlimited music download service" that cost £9.99 ($15) per month, but a Spotify spokesperson said these rumblings are "100% untrue."

Photomatix becomes available as Aperture plug-in
HDRsoft has released a new version of Photomatix, built as an Aperture plug-in. The software merges bracketed photographs into a 32-bit HDR image, displaying a greater tonal range than a conventional photo. The plug-in also gives users the ability to align handheld photographs, and reduce problems such as noise and chromatic aberrations.

Survey finds Nintendo to be the most reputable game company
It's fresh from celebrating the Game Boy's twentieth birthday and solid sales of the DSi, but it looks like Nintendo already has some more good news to boast about, with the Reputation Institutes's annual survey finding that it is by far the most reputable game company around, and the sixth most reputable company overall. Hawaii may approve Internet sales tax measure
Legislation that would require Hawaii-based online vendors to collect a 4 percent general excise tax on purchases placed from all other states is currently going through the system and may become law. According to a Friday report, the legislation is meant to standardize parts of Hawaii's tax code and simplify tax rates, joining an ongoing national effort towards similar goals.

Latest mini-HDMI connectors get shown off in prototype form
Mini HDMI connectors aren't exactly anything new, but a number of companies have now produced some prototypes based on the latest Type D spec set for inclusion in the next HDMI standard, which they hope will be more suitable for cellphones, GPS systems, and other portable devices. CloneCloud offloads phone tasks to remote servers
Two Intel research scientists from Berkeley, Byung-Gon Chun and Petros Maniatis, have created an new service called CloneCloud, aiming to provide extra processing power for cellphones. The service uses a smartphone's Internet access to offload processing to a remote server. This decreases the amount of local CPU usage for the phone, which also aids in extending battery life.

If this looks vaguely familiar, that's because it likely is -- we suspect this image out of Boy Genius Report is a newer (or older) render of the "G1 v2" called out on the recently-leaked Android roadmap out of T-Mobile. New HDMI connector could reach small devices

Video: Martin Jetpack flies again, but you still can't buy one
You know, for a device as potentially bad ass as the Martin Jetpack is -- the company boasts a maximum range of 31.5 miles at 63 mph, and the ability to hover at 8,000 feet above ground effect -- the video we've seen thus far has been pretty lackluster. Canon's PowerShot D10 adventure cam shot with a bazooka in this in-depth review
The gang at Photography Blog have got their hands all over the PowerShot D10, and it looks like Canon didn't fare too badly with its first "adventure camera." Even if the reviewer didn't really drop it from a helicopter or shoot it with a bazooka (as we had originally hoped) the unit was found to be as intuitive, sensible, and dependable as the company's other point-and-shooters. Of course, a device with this robust of a design is going to suffer in a few areas, and the 3x, 35-135mm zoom lens and 2.5-inch display can easily be considered "rather hum-drum" for a camera in this day and age. Erneuter Ausfall von Google Mail
Google hat erneut einen Ausfall von Google Mail bestätigt. Der Fehler, der dazu führte, dass sich Nutzer des Dienstes nicht anmelden konnten, trat gegen 11 Uhr deutscher Zeit auf und war laut Google nach knapp 20 Minuten wieder behoben.

What will the iPhone be able to do with a digital compass?
The new iPhone's compass will allow it to do a lot of interesting stuff. We're imagining there will be some excellent apps that allow you to make a 3D rendering or a Quicktime VR using the camera with GPS and compass. It will also help out in the driving applications, especially at low speeds where the GPS can't figure out which direction one is traveling in.

Nokia XpressMusic 5900 leaks out?
Sure, this could just be a really nice KIRF, but we've got a hunch these pics of an upcoming Nokia XpressMusic 5900 are the real deal -- it's just too understated to be shanzai. Compared to the 5800, the updated handsets are said to feature a slightly larger 3.5-inch display, a five megapixel camera, and more or less the same build of S60 5th edition, all in a slightly thinner case. That's all we know for now, but we're told we'll find out more soon -- keep it

How-to: Burning disk images
One of the many benefits of Mac OS X is the built-in support for a variety of disk image formats, including ISO, IMG, CDR, and the popular DMG. Disk images are exceptionally useful for storing small sets of files, such as packaging applications for distribution. The convenience of disk images is that when you open them, they mount like you've just inserted a CD or DVD, instead of being just a file or folder on the disk, or unzipping contents to another location as is the case with compressed archives. As such, you can have a library of music, program installers, and personal information all arranged in disk images, and you have an option to encrypt them.

TomTom quietly hiring for iPhone GPS app?
TomTom may be stepping up its efforts to produce turn-by-turn iPhone GPS through a low-key recruitment effort. We've seen plenty of Samsung LED HDTVs get pricing and availability in the last week or so, but that doesn't mean the party stops there. If you're in the market for a display for your PC, both the P2370 (23-inch) and P2070 (20-inch) sport a 50,000:1 contrast ratio and 2ms video response time. Robot that can jump twenty-five feet in the air coming to the US military
Boston Dynamics -- which previously made a robot called the BigDog -- has been enlisted by Sandia National Laboratories (a US government-funded lab) and DARPA to make a new, hopping robot. Called the Precision Urban Hopper, the robot's goal will be to be capable of jumping over large obstacles in city combat situations. US-Flugaufsicht verliert Daten von 48.000 Mitarbeitern

Das Marktforschungsunternehmen Gartner hat die neuesten geschätzten Absatzzahlen bei Computern für Europa veröffentlicht - und sie zeigen Apple erstmals unter den Top 5 im Vereinigten Königreich.

Nvidia steigert Umsatz und Verlust

Elecom's USB hub shares devices, not feelings, with your spouse
Here's a 7-port USB hub for the hardcore-singles or corporate-couples amongst you. The ¥7,035 (about $71) AC-powered U2SW-B27SBK hub from Elecom lets you share up to seven USB 2.0/1.1 devices simultaneously across a pair of USB connected computers; Mac or PC, makes no difference to Elecom. While it'll share a USB keyboard and mouse between machines, there's no video-out so it's not a true KVM. It does, however, include a little change-over switch that's supposed to allow for a nag-free swap-out of computers. Nvidia: 42 % weniger Umsatz, 201 Mio. Verlust
Nvidia hat am Donnerstag nach Börsenschluss die Quartalszahlen für das erste Quartal des Geschäftsjahres 2010 bekannt gegeben. iPhone-Parodie: Apps, die niemand braucht
Ein bisschen Humor braucht man schon, um als iPhone-Besitzer über diese Werbeparodie zu lachen. Denn womöglich erkennt man sich bei dem einen oder anderen Seitenhieb gar wieder. Tausende Apps, bei denen man den Überblick verliert, Angeberei im Freundeskreis oder einfach nur nutzlose Funktionen. BGR has some screengrabs of some debugging screen in the new beta releases of the iPhone 3 OS. It looks like those magnetometer (digital compass) features of the new iPhone hardware we saw earlier are legit-er. Question: What is the "kitchen sink?" (as in Everything but the kitchen sink?)
This brings up some interesting possibilites when combined with video and still pictures. The GPS metatags combined with direction can build 3D landscapes.

Zumindest ist dies eine klare Ansage: Neue iPhone-Anwendungen, die nicht kompatibel zum OS 3.0 sind, werden abgelehnt. Fukitorimushi cleaning bot is just like a pet -- only cleaner, quieter, better behaved, and more pillow-shaped
Panasonic recently unveiled a new kind of cleaning robot at the Tokyo Fiber Senseware Expo in Milan. Called Fukitorimushi, the small service bot is covered in Nanofront, a nanofiber polyester fabric which can absorb oil and pick up small paricles of dust. It moves a bit like an earthworm, crawling about the floor using several light sensors to root out the dirt, and can navigate itself back to its charging station when it needs more juice. Designers of the spiffy little guy seem to think that owners will bond to it as if it were a pet. No word on when these dudes will be commercially available, but we'll let you know as so

Robotic hand controlled by compressed air grasps the concept of delicacy
The Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory (AKA the RoMeLa Project) at the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech has designed and built a prototype robotic hand that is controlled and operated by compressed air. Called RAPHaEL (Robotic Air Powered Hand with Elastic Ligaments), the robot can hold heavier, solid objects, as well as light or delicate ones such as a light bulb or an egg. CMU researchers control microbots with mini magnets
Pardon the alliteration, but we're excited about the proposition here. For years -- millenniums, even -- scientists have been trying to figure out how to manipulate minuscule devices with magnets, and at long last, we've got a breakthrough in the field. Metin Sitti, an associate professor of mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, is credited with creating a new control technique that could allow microscopic machines to "one day deliver drugs directly to a sickly cell or a tumor." Acer says US smartphones won't arrive until 2010
Acer has been busy showing off one smartphone after the other over the past few months, and making promises about at least one Android-based device, but it now looks like folks in the US will have to wait a bit longer than expected to actually get their hands on 'em. While complete details are a bit light, according to Gearlog, the phones are being held up as a result of some snags with US carriers, and the first phones now likely won't make their debut until some unspecified point in 2010.
