HTC's complaint against Apple examined
Okay, we've just gotten the full complaint HTC filed with the International Trade Commission this morning, alleging that the iPhone, iPad, and iPod infringe five of its patents and asking for sales and imports to be halted. What's odd here is that HTC hasn't yet filed a lawsuit in federal court, which could mean a lot of things -- HTC could just be banking on the ITC's somewhat faster process to force Apple's hand, or it could be less sure of its patent claims and avoiding the harsher scrutiny of a courtroom in favor of an administrative decision. We can't say for sure what the reasoning is -- but we can read the ITC complaint and break down the claims, and that's exactly what we're going to do. It's going

Comcast iPad app to serve as Xfinity DVR remote
Comcast at the Cable Show today demoed an upcoming Xfinity Remote app for the iPad (video below). The software will turn the Apple tablet into a control for the cable provider's set-top boxes and will show a TV-style guide for changing channels or recording shows to a DVR. Social links will play just as much of a role, the company added: users can either chat live while watching a show or invite friends to watch at the same time.

Sprint claims long queues for HTC Evo 4G
Sprint at an investment conference today told guests that there was a large queue of interested buyers for the HTC Evo 4G. Prepaid manager Dan Schulman wouldn't say how many but was likely referring to the company's e-mail signups for notifications about the phone. Retail stores aren't known to be taking actual pre-orders.

Steam for Mac goes live with numerous titles
Wrapping up a beta period, Valve has officially released the first Mac version of Steam. The software functions as a way of buying, launching and updating games, as well as well as joining multiplayer matches and tracking groups and achievements. A4 microprocessor found lurking inside 4G iPhone

Erick Tseng leaves Google and Android... for Facebook
Looks like Google's Android team is being shaken up a little: senior product manager Erick Tseng just announced on Twitter that he's leaving for a new position at Facebook. You might remember Erick from his appearance on The Engadget Show and a brief video we did with him at CES -- he was an instrumental part of the Android team, and a pretty great interview to boot. We'll see how Google decides to fill his shoes, but for now let's wish Erick luck with the new gig -- we're sure he's got a million new friend requests coming his way.

Netflix stealth launches HD streaming to PC and Mac
It appears HD Netflix Watch Instantly streams aren't just for living room set-top boxes anymore now that Netflix is streaming more than half of its 720p-encoded titles to Macs and PCs (through the Silverlight web player, no word on the Media Center add-on.) According to Hacking Netflix, you can tell which ones are ready to go by checking the mouseover box for the (HD Available) tag as seen above. Microsoft defends Kin's $70 rate, promises apps
Microsoft today defended the $70 monthly plan for the Kin by revealing that the phones would eventually get smartphone-like app support. Mobile communications senior manager Greg Sullivan said the Kin and Windows Phone 7 platforms would eventually merge to where both would run the same apps. He didn't give a timetable but asserted that the Kin was already starting above regular 'feature' phones, particularly through its inclusion of online backup and media sharing through the Kin Studio.

CrossOver Games 9.0 adds profiles, new interface
CodeWeavers has launched CrossOver Games 9.0, a sibling to its recently-released flagship virtualization app. Unlike the basic CrossOver, Games is tuned for performance, making it less stable but more likely to provide better framerates. The Steam for Mac store is now live, and Mac users can not only download the Steam client, but pick up a number of new-to-Mac games. Mind-controlled prosthetic arm moving to market in Europe
Germany-based Otto Bock Healthcare has announced that its prototype prosthetic arm which can be controlled by thought is ready to hit the market. The device has been in testing on Christian Kandlbauer -- who doesn't have any arms and has a conventional prosthetic on his right side -- for the past four years. He's the first person in Europe to have a thought-controlled prosthesis installed, but the research is complete and the finished product should soon be available to the public. The arm makes use of targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR), which uses nerves that controlled the lost arm to control the prosthesis. Breaking: C4 shuts down
Filed under: AppleC4, the independent Mac developers conference, is no more. First held in 2006, C4 offered a highly-intense way for developers to share technology know-how with each other, providing a bottom-up approach to improving Apple platforms from developers, back to Apple.

New international iPad pre-orders will ship June 7
Filed under: iPadThat was fast. Apple has updated international websites to note that iPad pre-orders accepted from today on out will ship by June 7th. If you've already placed an order, you can still expect to receive your shiny new device on May 28th.
It was just this week that Apple began accepting pre-orders from the U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Spain and Italy with a ship date of the 28th. Could it be that they've exhausted that initial supply in two days? If so, "selling like hotcakes" is an understatement.

HTC seeks ban on Apple's iPhone, iPod, iPad sales
HTC today fired back at Apple by asking the International Trade Commission to ban imports of the iPad, iPhone and iPod into the US. The move is in direct response to Apple's lawsuit from March. HTC's North American VP Jason Mackenzie treated the request as a defense, hinting that it was also to protect carriers and OS makers like Google.

Netflix confirmed today that it's now streaming HD versions of movies and TV shows to the web. AT&T MicroCell brings more bars, but at a cost
Filed under: iPhoneSadly, I'm one of the poor souls who has close to zero cell coverage in my house. It's partly the way my home is constructed, and partly because the city fathers in the area I live in are going real slow about approving new cell towers.

Microsoft and Verizon say Kin's monthly pricing isn't crazy, when you think about it
Whatever you think about the Kin devices themselves, the one thing most folks can agree on is that their monthly pricing is more than a little out of step with their target audience -- except for Microsoft and Verizon, that is. Speaking to Computerworld, Microsoft senior product manager Greg Sullivan and Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney both raised the issue of the Kin's ability to backup to the cloud when defending the high monthly price ($30 for data on top of a standard phone plan), with Sullivan saying that once customers "realize the value of this, they'll realize it's a great deal." Deutscher Telekom gelingt positiver Start ins neue Jahr

Checks: BlackBerry sales wither in face of Android, iPhone
BlackBerry sales are dropping in the US in the face of better performance by Android phones and even a resurgence for the iPhone, Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Walkley said in a research note today. He claimed that the Droid Incredible and original Motorola Droid have been eating into BlackBerry sales at Verizon during April and May. China Mobile keen on iPad; Japanese line up for pre-orders
China Mobile is interested in selling the iPad, says the CEO of the carrier, Wang Jianzhou. Reuters notes that the executive spoke today at an annual shareholder's meeting, where he also claimed that the company is talking with Apple about developing a TD-SCDMA-capable iPhone, presumably a fourth-generation model. TD-SCDMA is not used outside of China, however, and so a separate iPhone design with a different 3G chipset would be needed.

AMD's 2010 mobile chips give quad-core to thin notebooks
After brief teases from HP and others, AMD today confirmed full details of its 2010 notebook chips. The mainstream processors are now known to be much more power efficient than both previous AMD chips and Intel's quad-core hardware. WLAN-Problem beim iPad
Bei einigen US-Nutzern des iPads soll verstärkt ein Problem mit der Stabilität der WLAN-Verbindung auftreten. Adding to a list of lawsuits against Apple is Softview, which has filed a new patent infringement complaint through a court in the District of Delaware. DNS-Fehler legen .de-Domains lahm
Anhang 62426Am heutigen Nachmittag fiel nach und nach die Top-Level-Domain .de aus. Schuld daran soll die DENIC, die deutsche Vergabestelle für .de-Domains sein. Sie hat gestern begonnen ihre Server von Amsterdam nach Frankfurt umziehen. Bei einer solchen Systemmigration dieser Wichtigkeit gibt es normalerweise immer ein Ausfallszenario - anscheinend ist hier doch etwas passiert, was nicht vorgesehen war.
Was bedeutet das? Die DNS-Server lösen eine Domain also z.B. apfeltalk.de auf die zugehörige IP-Adresse auf

Intel "serious" about tablets, touts dual-core Atom
Intel at its Investor Meeting on Tuesday pledged itself to supporting Atom-based, touch-only tablets in the future. Client VP Mooly Eden promised that the first true Intel-based tablets would appear at the Computex expo in early June and held up what appeared to be a reference tablet design. Pentax bringt Digicam K-x als limitierte Rainbow-Edition in kunterbunt
Irgendwie scheint die Pentax K-x einen besonderen Hang zum Farbtopf zu besitzen, denn nach der Version in schweinchenrosa, die es zum Valentinstag in China gab, kommt jetzt eine "Rainbow"-Version, für die der Ausdruck "kunterbunt" eigentlich nicht reicht und auch "quietschbunt" eine Untertreibung wäre. Wir nennen die Pentax K-x Rainbow dann mal quälendbunt und freuen uns, dass sie nur in limitierter Auflage bei der US-Kette Tower Records zu haben sein wird. Zwei weitere Bilder nach dem Break.

Video: Noch ein iPhone HD Prototyp aufgetaucht !
So langsam wird die Geschichte unglaubwürdig. Angeblich ist in Vietnam ein weiterer Prototyp vom kommenden iPhone HD aufgetaucht. Von diesem „Fund“ gibt es auch schon ein Video bei YouTube.
Auf diesem gibt es im Gegensatz vom „Gizmodo-Modell“ eine Angabe der Speicherkapazität (16GB). Ausserdem sind die Schrauben auf neben dem Docking-Anschluss nicht mehr sichtbar. So hat es den Anschein, dass dieser Prototyp eine Weiterentwicklung von dem Modell von Gizmodo ist. Wenn das so weiter geht, brauchen wir gar nicht mehr am 7. Juni die WWDC 2010 ansehen oder darüber berichten.
Aber wie immer hoffe ich auf Steve Jobs und sein "one more thing" und das er uns alle wieder verblüffen wird.

Next-gen iPhone photos, video show A4 chip, new screen
A pair of surprise tests from Vietnamese sites have provided a slew of new details about the future iPhone, including video (shown below). Unlike the lost prototype, this version appears to be near or at final production and has a 16GB capacity that suggests Apple either has a low-end model planned or won't change storage. Apple promising fix for iPad Wi-Fi

These problems were often fixed by solutions as weird as just raising and lowering the display brightness settings. Originally, Apple said the issue was probably with problem routers and crossed signals, but now they've fessed up that it seems to be a software problem, and a software fix is on the way.

United Internet steigert Umsatz und Vorsteuergewinn
United Internet hat seine Geschäftszahlen nach IFRS für das erste Quartal 2010 vorgelegt. iPad in Deutschland schon "ausverkauft"
So hat es den Anschein. Aber keine Panik, es handelt sich hierbei um die Vorbestellungen, die zum 28. Mai ausgeliefert werden.
In einer Rekordzeit von nur 48 Stunden sind die Lager der ersten iPad-Lieferung in Deutschland leer.
Wer jetzt ein iPad vorbestellt, bekommt als Liefertermin den 7. Juni angezeigt. Wie viele iPads insgesamt bereit gestanden haben, ist noch nicht bekannt. Wie schnell die zweite Lieferung „ausverkauft“ sein wird, dürfen wir wohl in den nächsten Tagen sehen. Auf jeden Fall ist das mehr wie Rekordverdächtig.

Der 3D-Trend geht ja eigentlich weg von der Spezialbrille aber fürs erste dürften auch noch die Shutterbrillen-basierten Systeme noch mächtig zulegen. Womit dann auch die Nachfrage nach irgendwie "designten" Modellen ordentlich steigen dürfte. Ob die Teile von Firmen wie Look3D dann wirklich einen besseren Eindruck machen beim 3D-Glotzen, müssst ihr selbst entscheiden.

Nächste Generation des iPhones in Vietnam gesichtet
Wie Engadget berichtet, wurde nun auch in Vietnam bereits die nächste Generation des iPhones gesichtet. Dabei unterscheidet sich das in Vietnam befindliche Modell minimal von dem Entwickler-Gerät, welches in den USA aufgetaucht war. So sind beispielsweise die beiden Schrauben am Dock Connector beim Vietnam-Modell verschwunden. Urteil: Hartz-IV-Empfänger haben keinen Anspruch auf Finanzierung eines PCs
Empfänger von Leistungen der Grundsicherung für Arbeitsuchende ("Hartz IV") haben nach Ansicht des Landessozialgerichts Nordrhein-Westfalen keinen Anspruch auf Übernahme der Kosten für die Erstanschaffung eines PC (Aktenzeichen L 6 AS 297/10 B). Das Gericht hat damit einen Beschluss des Sozialgerichts Detmold vom 7. Januar 2010 bestätigt (Aktenzeichen S 18 AS 105/09). Mit ihm war der Klägerin der Anspruch auf Prozesskostenhilfe wegen fehlender Erfolgsaussicht versagt worden.

Review: Tragbarer HotSpot Huawei E5
Tragbare Wi-Fi-HotSpots werden immer populärer. Die Geräte im Hosentaschenformat bauen eine Internetverbindung über UMTS auf und stellen diese für WLAN-fähige Mobilgeräte wie zum Beispiel das iPad, den iPod touch oder Notebooks bereit. Somit kann man auf Reisen, im Café oder auch irgendwo im Grünen komfortabel im Internet surfen. iPad Liefertermin: Neu am 7. Juni
Neue Vorbestellungen für das iPad werden in der Schweiz neuerdings frühestens am 7. Juni ausgeliefert. Anscheinend ist der Vorverkauf auch in der Schweiz sehr erfolgreich angelaufen. Bisher wurde der 28. Mai als Liefertermin gelistet, alle seit Montag getätigten Vorbestellungen dürften auch ab dem 28. Mai geliefert werden, zumindest wird dort bisher noch kein anderer Termin genannt. Auch die Liefertermine für neu-vorbestellte iPad-Zubehöre wurden verschoben, so wird das Apple iPad Sleeve neu ebenfalls mit dem 7. Juni angegeben. Beim iPad Camera Connection Kit wird neuerdings «Juni» gelistet. Sowohl das iPad-Dock als auch das iPad-Keyboard-Dock werden noch mit dem 28. Mai gelistet.

Inzwischen gibt es ja eine Menge Autos mit automatischer Einparkhilfe, die einen vorsichtig und sachte in die Parklücke geleiten. Das hier ist mehr der sportliche Ansatz: "Junior", einem umgebauten autonomen Passat, der ursprünglich auch bei der DARPA Urban Challenge mit dabei war, hat ein Team von VW und der Universität Stanford mithilfe von GPS und diversen Sensoren das Powerslide-Einparken beigebracht. Die vietnameische Webseite Taoviet hat weitere Fotos eines vermeintlichen Prototypen der 4. iPhone-Generation veröffentlicht. iPhone 4G in Vietnam aufgetaucht

In Vietnam haben Tech-Blogger gerade eine Menge Spaß dabei, ein iPhone 4G, das ihnen irgendwie in den Schoß geplumpst ist, in die Kamera zu halten. Sollte dieses knapp-vor-Serienfertigung-Exemplar authentisch sein, dann werden die iPhones der nächsten Generation in so etwas wie einem Saphirglasgehäuse kommen und neben der Kamera auch einen LED-Blitz mitbringen. Erneut Fotos vom iPhone 4/HD aufgetaucht
Und wieder tauchten Bilder vom nächsten iPhone auf. Diesmal waren es die Jungs von Taoviet, die das iPhone in Vietnam vor die Kamera bekamen. Anders als beim Gizmodo-iPhone kommt dieses Modell dem finalen Design schon näher (..wenn es nicht sogar das finale iPhone 4/HD ist), da einige Schrauben nun nicht mehr sichtbar sind. Nachdem vor zwei Tagen damit begonnen wurde, die iPad-Vorbestellungen im deutschen Apple Online Store (Affiliate-Link) entgegen zu nehmen, verschiebt sich heute der nächst-mögliche Versandtermin aller iPad-Gerätetypen auf den 07. Juni.
Die in den letzten 48 Stunden ausgeführten Bestellungen sollten jedoch pünktlich am 28. Mai – in 16 Tagen – bei ihren Käufern eintrudeln. Sharp bringt die weltweit erste 3D HD-Kamera für mobile Geräte

Next generation iPhone escapes in Vietnam
The kids at Tinhte have really outdone themselves this time. From the looks of these images, the Vietnamese site has nabbed an honest to goodness 4th generation iPhone -- a 16GB model to be exact. It's clearly pre-production judging by the XXX placeholders on the backside stamp and likely lacks any OS other than a test routine. Apple und Flash
Erst Ende April hatte sich Steve Jobs in einem offenen Brief dazu geäussert, warum er Adobe-Flash nicht für das iPhone und iPad nutzen will. Nun wartet man bei Apple nicht darauf, dass Adobe sich Apple annähert, man „baut“ seine eigene Flash-Alternative.
Der Name „Gianduia“ deutet eigentlich auf feinstes Haselnußnougat aus dem italienischen Turin hin, weniger auf eine Flash-Alternative.
Gianduia setzt unter anderem HTML5, JavaScript, CoreData und WebObject voraus. Das wiederum ist zwischenzeitlich schon als technischer Standard anzusehen. Neu ist Gianduia nicht, wurde es doch bereits im vergangenen Jahr auf der World of Web Objects Developer Conference vorgestellt. Wobei man sagen muss, dass zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch keiner wirklich darauf geachtet hat.

Samsung P580 business laptop hands-on
Boy, Samsung's been keeping us busy today -- in addition to the Q330 and Q530, the company was also showing the P580 business laptop at the British Museum today. The particular unit we played with had a vibrant 15.6-inch 1,366 x 768 matte screen, although a higher resolution and greater viewing angle would've made it a prettier package. Steam for Mac, Portal, Torchlight out tomorrow

Tomorrow's the big day: Valve's Steam platform is officially coming to the Mac, and it's bringing two of my favorite games along with it. Samsung U200 all-in-one desktop hands-on
Here's another exhibit that we could (literally) touch at the British Museum today -- Samsung's new all-in-one touchscreen PC, the U200. We won't go into another pixel density rant about the 20-inch, but the colors and optical touch sensitivity were good. As for the keyboard, it seemed to have similar issues we dealt with on the P580 laptop, but at least you can just throw it out and get a better one with the U200. LG Ally works its Iron Man cred, leaves a few loose ends to tie up
We'll admit it, we really can't find anything straight-out "wrong" with the LG Ally. Maybe we could muster up a few matters of taste to gripe about, but it really does seem to be a pretty solid QWERTY Android slider. AT&T changing eligibility dates for new iPhone

MobileCrunch reports that AT&T has been quietly tweaking the upgrade eligibility dates for the next iPhone. While most of those who purchased the iPhone 3GS at launch had an upgrade date available sometime in November, far be it from AT&T to stand in the way of a new iPhone purchase. They've been changing the dates without fanfare to as soon as June 21st, 2010. That doesn't really confirm anything, but it's almost a forgone conclusion at this point that Apple will release a new iPhone in June. Samsung's MD230X6 six-screen Eyefinity rig gets a price to match its size
Aww isn't that 8-inch frame in the corner just adorable? FTC delaying AdMob review to consider Apple role
The FTC has delayed its once-imminent review of Google's AdMob deal to gauge Apple's impact on the deal, sources said on Tuesday. Officials have supposedly given Google two extra weeks so that the government can determine whether Apple's buyout of Quattro Wireless and the resulting iAd platform make the mobile ad market more competitive. It has already been inclined to reject the deal but has said it would have been "much easier without Apple," according to one NYT contact.

Sony prepping NEX-based camcorder with swappable lenses
Sony on the heels of its Alpha NEX cameras confirmed that it's also developing a camcorder based on the same swappable lens system. It would have the same APS-C sensor and E mounts as the new still cameras but would focus primarily on HD video capture. Most details aren't available, but it would capture directly to H.264 and have a dedicated eyepiece in addition to a swiveling LCD.

Why Apple's anti-trust woes are nothing to worry about
As the FTC and other government organizations consider whether or not they want to launch an anti-trust probe into Apple's iPhone OS development rules, the market is left wondering what will come of it. For now, the government has remain tight-lipped about its plans and rumors suggest that Apple might be planning to change its SDK to avoid a court battle. Verizon confirms it's working on a tablet with Google
Not much by way of detail here, but Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam just confirmed that his company is working on tablets with Google in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. Unfortunately, that's all we've got to work with at the moment -- McAdam said tablets are "part of the 'next big wave of opportunities,' but didn't say what OS the Google devices would run, just that Verizon's "looking at all the things Google has in its archives that we could put on a tablet to make it a great experience."
