Google mulls trying native Latitude for iPhone again
Google may make another attempt at a native port of Latitude now that iPhone 4.0 is about to be released, senior product manager Steve Lee said today. He mentioned that Google was "evaluating" Latitude for the new mobile OS. The developer didn't "anything to announce just yet" but was careful in conversation with TechCrunch not to rule out a native app.

News: AT&T to offer iPhone insurance for $14 a month?
AT&T is preparing to offer insurance plans for iPhone users, with pricing set at $14 per month, according to a new report. The Boy Genius Report has posted photos showing internal AT&T documents outlining the new service, which will be called MobileProtect and will be activated by downloading an app from the App Store. AT&T to finally offer iPhone insurance
AT&T is bracing itself for the new iPhone with a long-anticipated insurance plan for the iPhone. A leak Friday said the plan, MobileProtect, would cost $14 per month but would cover the cost of an iPhone if accidentally broken. Unusually, customers would subscribe through the App Store rather than at retail or on the phone, although it's not known if the app itself would cost any money.

Gamers more likely to experience sweet, lucid dreams
New research coming out of Grant MacEwan University in Alberta, Canada has left us feeling a little creepy. It turns out that gamers and those who have lucid dreams -- in which the person is aware of the fact that they're dreaming and can sometimes control the dreams -- have a few things in common. Namely, both are usually less prone to motion sickness and possess better spatial skills, as well as demonstrating higher levels of concentration. Droid 2 keyboard makes a QWERTY cameo?
While we've got no way to confirm at the moment, here's some proverbial food for thought. A friendly reader last night published on our comment thread for the two rumored Verizon-bound Motorola devices with the above picture (subtitles added by us), claiming the bottom image is the Droid 2's upgraded QWERTY keyboard. Droid helps Motorola close to Apple in phone happiness
Apple in a new ChangeWave study still topped customer happiness rankings but was met by relatively close competition from Motorola. The iPhone still led with 77 percent very satisfied, but the Droid helped Motorola grab a surprise 64 percent. Every other company scored significantly lower with users, as fellow Android maker HTC managed just 51 percent while RIM scored 46 percent.

More concerns over suicides at Foxconn
Filed under: Apple CorporateThere was more bad news out of China this week -- manufacturer Foxconn (who makes quite a few parts for Apple devices) has been dealing with a rash of employee suicides, as low pay and long hours on the workers seems to be taking their toll. Yesterday, another worker reportedly tried to take his own life, and there are reports of more than 15 other attempts within the plant. Apple has responded, saying that they're working closely with the company to try and solve the issue.

HTC planning an Android tablet for women, TV addicts?
So it seems pretty likely that HTC will give us an Android tablet at some point, although any hard and fast details continue to elude us. Speaking at the Open Mobile Summit, however, HTC's VP of Europe, Dr. Florian Seiche, did give us a clue as to how things were headed: "Our study found women social networking while watching television was a likely use for tablets." We have to wonder if this so-called "Facebook and Cougar Town" demographic were what Jobs & Co, had in mind when they decided to go ahead with the iPad. If so, they were wise to keep the information to themselves.

Samsung considering iAd equivalent for phones, TVs?
Samsung may be following Apple's iAd into the mobile ad space, a report claimed Friday. The electronics giant hasn't been specific with plans but could put ads through its phones and TVs once it finishes an app store for its platforms. It's speculated that Samsung might have to buy an online ad network but could start its own.

JooJoo creator rips into the iPad, says an app store only sells 'stripped down versions of actual websites'
Fusion Garage CEO and JooJoo creator Chandra Rathakrishnan has certainly discussed the iPad before in talking up his own tablet, but nothing could have quite prepared us for the bit of bombast he unleashed on the occasion of the iPad's international launch. Bell Canada reveals iPad data plans
Joining chief competitor Rogers, Bell has announced its own 3G data plans for the iPad. These are virtually identical to Rogers', providing 250MB a month for $15, or 5GB a month for $35. Subscribers have access to unlimited data through Bell Wi-Fi hotspots, which are found in a variety of places, including every Starbucks outlet in the country.

Apple patents on-phone shopping list, e-checkout
Filed under: iPhoneApple has patented the idea of using a mobile device "to acquire pricing information for a shopping list of products," which basically sounds like an official version of SnapTell Explorer -- point the camera at something and then get a list of available prices for it. Gigabyte busts out M1125 netvertible ahead of Computex
Gigabyte's just the its Computex 'cat' out of the bag, and while most of it is stuff we've already seen plenty of, there was one new addition. The 11.6-inch M1125 netvertible boasts a high res 1,366 x 768 display, an Intel Calpella chip, USB 3.0 and an optical disc drive. This little guy also has a new fangled docking station and a full sized keyboard to boot. We don't have anything resembling full specs yet, nor do we have pricing or availability information -- though we get the feeling we'll be seeing plenty more of this one in the week to come. Restaurant has iPad waiters, Foursquare and Twitter tie-ins
Imminent New York City restaurant 4Food has provided first details of an Internet-focused approach to its business. The midtown Manhattan burger shop will let visitors customize and order food over the web, including for pickup, but will also have waiters with iPads for those who want to order in person or eat in. Apple applies for patent to resume media playback on another device
Remember that "Continuous Client" piece that was burning up the pages of Alt the other day? Well, we might get one sliver of it fulfilled if Apple has any real plans for implementing this concept they're in the process of patenting. The idea basically uses cloud syncing to let a user pause a song or video on one device and then resume it from that same spot on another device -- perfect for Apple's little phone / PC / TV ecosystem. CopyCatX 5.0 supports Snow Leopard, copies files, folders
SubRosaSoft.com has released an update to its drive duplication software for the Mac, CopyCatX 5.0. The software uses sector copying and can quickly create an exact duplicate of a hard drive, including a Mac OS X boot drive, or an iPod. It can also clone Boot Camp drives and Windows, TiVo and Linux drives. It uses proprietary resizing technology on HFS Plus drives to recover lost space after a cloning.

Opera Mini already on 2.6 million iPhones
The iPhone has become the third most popular platform for Opera Mini in just a matter of weeks, Opera found today. Over 2.6 million Apple devices downloaded and used the browser in its first two weeks of presence on the App Store. TweakTown slathers four Radeon HD 5870s in liquid nitrogen, crushes some benchmarks (video)
The PC hardware community recently discovered that quad-SLI was a huge waste of cash, so when we heard that TweakTown were stringing together four Radeon HD 5870s in a similar CrossFireX configuration, we figured they were about to throw away their time, too. Amtek has prepared several of its iTablet- and T23-series tablets to show off at the upcoming Computex conference in Taiwan. Microsoft Tag comes out of beta, promises free colorful codes for all
It was about a year and a half ago that Microsoft decided it could do QR codes better, that any universal coding system needed a dash of color, and launched Tag. Now, the roughly one billion Tags that users have printed have been made a little less illegitimate, with Microsoft bringing the service out of beta and taking the opportunity to toot Tag's trumpet a bit. The codes have appeared in 20 million magazines so far and have recently been deployed to create a sort of tour for geeks in Amsterdam (no word on whether our own international man of mystery is featured). MacNN has reviewed Dragon Dictation, an app designed for the iPad and iPhone. Users can convert their speech to text, though an Internet connection is required to perform the actual conversion. MS hopes to sell 30 million Windows Phone 7 devices by 2011
Microsoft revealed that it may have aggressive goals for Windows Phone 7 through a presentation at ReMIX in France. The company endorsed IDC data that showed it shipping a total of 30 million WP7 smartphones by the end of 2011. Much of the increase would be helped by the rise of smartphones, which could account for 40 percent of sales in 2011 compared to just 14 percent this year.

UK iBookstore launches with limited number of publishers
Despite reports of conflicts over European book deals, the UK iBookstore is up and running with paid titles, an industry site notes. Apple has inked contracts with Hachette UK, Penguin, HarperCollins and Pan Macmillan, allowing it to sell books such as Wolf Hall and The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet. Prices range from £10 to £12 for titles currently in hardcover, and £4 to £7 for paperbacks.

Some further thoughts on the rumored next Apple TV
Our report this morning that there may be a new Apple TV, based on an Engadget scoop is going to cause a lot of chatter. A new Apple TV is a step the company has to take, and frankly, if it came out today it would be at least a year late.
The article says the project has been in the works for a long time, and the projected price being tossed around is U.S. $99.00! Bewährungsstrafe für Tauss wegen Besitz von Kinderpornografie
Der ehemalige Bundestagsabgeordnete Jörg Tauss (Piratenpartei) ist heute vom Karlsruher Landgericht wegen des Besitzes von Kinderpornografie zu einer Bewährungsstrafe von einem Jahr und drei Monaten verurteilt worden. Neues Apple TV: mit iPhone OS, Streaming und Kampfpreis

Man hatte sich ein bisschen mit dem Gedanken abgetan, dass sich Apple aus Home Entertainment nicht mehr allzu viel machen würde. Aber weit gefehlt, wie Quellen verlautbaren liessen, soll ein neues Apple TV bald an den Start gehen und geht um ein ganzes Stück mehr in Richtung Apple Mobiles. Basierend auf dem iPhone 4, also mit A4 CPU und 16GB Flashspeicher, soll es dennoch 1080p HD Video ermöglichen. Ein bisschen soll es wie ein iPhone " ohne Bildschirm" aussehen. Auch der Preis von 99 Dollar wäre ein ziemlicher Slammer. Apple TV setzt in Zukunft auch auf Cloud-basierter Speicherung, Streaming ist also auch hier die Losung. Shogo 10-inch Linux tablet is a Qooq minus the recipes -- and the feet (video)
Last year's Qooq tablet hardly made much of a splash in the gadget industry, despite its cooking prowess and silly little feet. Now, the manufacturer behind the device, Realease, is shaving down the appendages and ditching the recipes to create the Shogo, a 10-inch, capacitive-touch Linux tablet. CDMA iPhone seen at Verizon in November
The Verizon iPhone could be on store shelves in November, Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar claimed today. Checks with manufacturers have ASUS' manufacturing arm Pegatron building iPhones soon enough that it could ship two months before the end of the year. Most rumors have had production starting as early as August but no later than September, giving Apple enough time to have a large quantity on hand for a Verizon launch.

Shanghai's Roewe 350 auto rolls off the assembly line with Android 2.1
This is probably not what Google means by a mobile OS, but no matter: SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation) has recently announced that the Roewe 350 -- which began production last week -- will feature a custom variant of Android 2.1 called Inkanet for its entertainment and GPS system. This bad boy sports Internet access (via China Telecom 3G), OnStar, and a "walkie-talkie" function for chatting with other Inkanet users. With the vehicle estimated to cost upwards of 130,000 yuan ($20,000), this is certainly the most expensive Android MID we've seen yet -- as well as the least pocketable. UK iPad launch sees long lines at Regent Street Apple Store
Approximately 500 people are estimated to have lined up in front the flagship Regent Street Apple Store in London on Friday morning, hoping to be some of the first people in the UK to buy a retail iPad. The line is said to have originally extended from the entrance to around the corner of Hanover Street, and then down to Hanover Square. People are still reported to be in line as of early afternoon GMT, even with a number of iPads having been bought.

Apple will sich "WebKit" als Marke eintragen lassen
Die Render-Engine WebKit kommt unter anderem bei Safari zum Einsatz. Bei WebKit handelt es sich um ein OpenSource-Projekt, der größte Anteil der Weiterentwicklung wird von Apple vorgenommen. Neue Dropbox-Beta mit selektiver Synchronisierung
Wie von den Entwicklern versprochen, lässt sich in der neuen Beta-Version von Dropbox festlegen, welche Ordner der Dienst mit seinem Rechner abgleichen soll. So kann man beispielsweise verhindern, dass Dropbox einen privaten Ordner mit dem Büro-Rechner synchronisiert.

Googles Font API als Wordpress-Plug-in verfügbar
Googles Font API ist nun auch als Plug-in für WordPress verfügbar. Der Suchmaschinenbetreiber hat die API bereits auf seiner Entwickler-Konferenz Google I/O vorgestellt. Mit ihr lassen sich Fonts auf Webseiten betrachten, auch wenn sie nicht auf dem eigenen Rechner installiert sind.

Fortunately, Battle for Cydonia is full of that, as you control a mech armed with dual machine guns through a series of missions on the future planet of Cydonia. It's a pretty simple affair, but the multitouch controls really make it shine -- you draw a path for your mech to take, and then just tap on enemies as they appear to shoot them down. Intel on Friday launched a pair of Core i5 and Core i7 desktop processors designed to ramp well past their official speeds. The dual-core, 3.2GHz i5-655K and the quad-core, 2.93GHz i7-875K both have their clock multipliers unlocked and are easy to scale upwards. Das kann sich nämlich zusammenfalten und spart so essentiellen Platz in unseren Metropolen. 2012 soll es in Europa schon mal in einigen Großstädten testfahren dürfen. Samsung won't upgrade Behold II, shows Android fragmentation
Samsung triggered a furor among owners of the Behold II with a statement that it won't upgrade the phone beyond Android 1.6. The company said the T-Mobile smartphone would move to 1.6 soon and add features like Swype's keyboard, but claimed that the phone was "not upgradeable" to 2.0 or later. iPads ausverkauft. Regale leer bei Gravis, Saturn und Co.

In Deutschland heißt es erstmal Zeit zum Kuchen backen. Wie es aussieht sind hierzulande die begehrten iPads fürs erste ausverkauft. So wurden leere Regale bei Gravis gemeldet, wo die Wahrscheinlichkeit eines zu bekommen am höchsten war. Hiesige Saturns z.B. wurden teils nur mit drei Geräten beliefert. Die sollten aber auch schon alle nicht mehr da sein. So bleibt nur noch die Bestellung bei Apple selbst, oder es etabliert sich in D aufgrund der nicht vorhandenen Verkaufsbeschränkung ein reger Schwarzmarkt.

Es sind zwar einige gleich mit eigenen Apps auf den Zug des angeblichen Medienretters gesprungen, aber ein paar haben überhaupt keine Lust. Toshiba Airswing: Multitouch-Luftgitarre für alle

Wir mögen das ganze Multitouchgerede langsam satt haben, aber der geht noch. Toshiba hat mit Airswing ein Interface gebastelt, dass auf jedem Rechner mit Webcam funktionieren soll. Die Software bringt ein semi-transparentes Bild des Users auf den Screen und gibt ihm Anweisungen welche Art von Ampelmännchen er nun nachmachen soll, um die Bilder schön aufzuzoomen. We've just come across a video demo from the University of Pennsylvania's GRASP Lab that shows an autonomous quadrotor helicopter performing "precise aggressive maneuvers." Apples iPad ist seit heute morgen auch in Deutschland und acht weiteren Ländern außerhalb der USA zu haben. Die ersten Vorbestellungen wurden schon gestern ausgeliefert. Außer den offiziellen Apple Stores verkaufen auch Gravis, Media Markt, Mediamax und Saturn den Tablet-Rechner, letztere jedoch nicht in allen Filialen.

iPad Day 2010: Impressionen vom Apple Store Zürich
Im macprime.ch Theater haben wir für euch Impressionen vom iPad Launch beim Apple Store Zürich von heute Morgen online gestellt.
Bereits während der Nacht hindurch haben sich erste iPad-Fans vor dem Apple Retail Store an der Bahnhofstrasse in Zürich eingefunden. Um 07:30 — eine halbe Stunde vor Verkaufsbeginn — umfasste die Menschenschlange vor dem Store bereits über 200 Personen und reichte bis hinunter zum Pestalozzi-Platz. Bis zum Verkaufsstart vergrösserte sich die wartende Menschenmenge auf schätzungsweise drei- bis vierhundert Personen. Der Andrang flachte indes auch später nicht ab, da immerzu weitere Leute sich an die Schlange anschlossen.

Foxconn raising wages by about 20 percent as previously planned
After a string of highly localized suicides at Foxconn's manufacturing campus captured the world's attention -- again -- the company has decided to increase worker wages by about 20 percent. Foxconn says that the pay raise had been planned for some time but did not say when it would be implemented. Mind you, a 20% bump in the third quarter is not unusual as Foxconn ramps up production for the holidays. Lenovo steigert Umsatz und Gewinn im vierten Quartal
Lenovo hat im vierten Quartal des Geschäftsjahres 2009/2010 (bis 31. März) einen Gewinn von 13 Millionen Dollar (10 Millionen Euro) erwirtschaftet, nach einem Verlust von 264 Millionen Dollar (214 Millionen Euro) im Vorjahreszeitraum. Der Umsatz stieg der gestern veröffentlichten Bilanz zufolge um 55,8 Prozent auf 4,3 Milliarden Dollar (3,5 Milliarden Euro).

Urheberrechtsabgabe auf Macs - Apple passt die Preise an
Die Urheberrechtsabgabe hat den Apple Store Deutschland (Affiliate-Link) erreicht und lässt jeden Mac (mit Ausnahme des Mac Pro) um zwischen 14 und 17 Euro teuerer werden - entsprechend rutscht z.B. das MacBook damit in den vierstelligen Bereich. Ursprünglich wurde auch für sämtliche iPad-Modelle eine Urheberrechtsabgabe veranschlagt, die dann aber schrittweise wieder verschwand.

WiFi Sync jetzt auch für iPad und Windows

Es war ein Mal ein Traum. Der hiess: Schluss mit dem Kabeln nur um das iPhone auf den neusten Stand zu bringen. Wer sich in das Jailbreak-Getümmel wirft, für den ist dieser Traum mit Wi-Fi Sync erfüllt worden, aber das iPad und vor allem alles jenseits von Mac OS X blieben aussen vor. Greg Hughes hat jetzt weiter aufgebohrt und nun kann man auch sein iPad drahtlos syncen und das alles sogar auf Windows, egal ob XP, Vista oder Windows 7.

Palm verliert führenden Entwickler an Google
Google hat laut einem Bericht von All Things Digital einen führenden WebOS-Entwickler von Palm abgeworben. IDC: Servermarkt wächst im ersten Quartal um 4,6 Prozent
Der Umsatz der Serverbranche ist im ersten Quartal um 4,6 Prozent auf 10,4 Milliarden Dollar gestiegen. We've seen a Minority Report-esque interface or two hundred by this point, but Toshiba's AirSwing really caught our attention. Using little more than a webcam and some software, this bad boy places a semi-transparent image of the operator on the display -- all the easier to maneuver through the menus. Pentax hat eine Reihe von Firmwareupdates vorgestellt, die für die Kompakt- und Bridgekameras I-10, W90, H90 und X90 gedacht sind. Apple Store München: Helge, der erste Mann in der iPad-Schlange
Heute geht es los. Der offiziellen Verkaufsstart vom iPad in Deutschland hat begonnen. Diverse User haben schon gestern eins per UPS bekommen, da durch den Feiertag (Pfingstmontag) Apple sicherheitshalber die Geräte früher losgeschickt hat.
Was heute bei den Apple Stores in Hamburg, Frankfurt und auch München los sein wird, darüber werden wir wohl später berichten. Wobei, es gibt schon das erste Video bei YouTube über Helge.
Helge ist 26 Jahre alt und steht seit gestern um 11 Uhr in München vor dem Apple Store und wartet auf das begehrte iPad. Nicht das er es unbedingt braucht, er hat ja schon eins aus den USA. Nun holt er sich noch eins aus Deutschland. Damit er sicher sein konnte, auch ein iPad zum Verkaufsstart hier zu bekommen, hat er sich entschlossen „etwas früher“ da zu sein.

Heute offizieller iPad-Verkaufsstart in Deutschland und acht weiteren Ländern
Auch wenn die ersten heiß ersehnten Pakete bereits gestern zugestellt wurden, heute ist der offizielle Verkaufsstart für das iPad in Deutschland, Australien, Kanada, Frankreich, Italien, Japan, Spanien, Großbritannien und der Schweiz. Vor den deutschen Apple Stores und Niederlassungen der Mac-Handelsketten hatten sich teils bereits in den frühen Morgenstunden kleine Schlangen gebildet und es ist davon auszugehen, dass zumindest die kleinen Modelle recht schnell ausverkauft sind.
Wer sein Glück noch versuchen will, kann auf dieser Webseite die nächstgelegene Verkaufsstelle ausfindig machen.

iBookstore erlaubt unabhängigen US-Autoren Verkauf ohne Verlag
Apple hat es unabhängigen Buchautoren erleichtert, ihre Werke in den iBookstore zu bringen. Bislang brauchten Autore eine Einladung eines bereits im iBookstore aktiven Verlages, ab sofort ist das zumindest in den USA nicht mehr notwendig.
Autoren können ihre Werke somit verkaufen, ohne einen Verlag oder Makler einzuschalten. Voraussetzung ist, dass das Buch über einen ISBN-Code verfügt

Though we're not even a wee bit shocked to see a "usable" version of Froyo already available to owners of the G1 / Dream and Magic, we're definitely heartened to see that phones running 2008 specs can handily run a mid-2010 version of the platform. There's plenty of stuff that doesn't work yet -- WiFi and GPS, just to name a couple of biggies -- but we suspect that this is one dev community that won't give up until everything is working to their satisfaction. Pro Apple Premium Reseller nur 25 iPads?
Wie uns ein Leser, der bei einem Apple Premium Reseller arbeitet, mitteilte, wurden pro Apple Premium Reseller nur gerade 25 iPads geliefert. Wer also heute im Sinn hatte, vor einem Apple Händler anzustehen um sich heute ein neues Apple Tablet zu ergattern, der wird wohl bei den meisten APRs enttäuscht werden. Wi-Fi Sync now compatible with Windows and iPad
Wi-Fi Sync is quite the gem (at least we think so) but it had some limitations -- namely, it only worked on OS X for desktop, and only with iPhone / iPod touch. Developer Greg Hughes pinged us earlier today to let us know he's thrown the gates off such restrictions. The jailbroken app now works for both iPads and Windows -- XP, Vista, and 7. The desktop client is free to download but it still cost just a hair under $10 for the appropriate mobile device. Worth the price of breaking free from wires? Your call.

Motorola queuing up two major Droid phones for July
Motorola could be Apple's most conspicuous rival this summer thanks to a pair of key deals with Verizon, leaks from inside the deal gave away this evening [sub. required]. The iPad had a strong start in some of its first international sales today with initial reports of very long lines in Japan. Over 1,200 queued at Apple's Ginza flagship store for its 8AM opening. Last we thought, that mandatory $10 "premium data add-on" for Sprint's EVO 4G would additionally include YouTube and Qik video chat, and well, we may have been only half right. Motorola to launch two smartphones on Verizon in July, says WSJ

Japan building a robot moon base in 2020, and you're not invited
Not content with the sheer badassery of sending a humanoid robot to the moon in 2015, Japan has just unveiled a mission for 2020 that will involve setting up a whole robotic moon base. It will be unmanned in the flesh-and-blood sense, but will be populated with a 660 pound rolling bot. The station will be self-powered, and will let its citizen roam over 60+ miles of terrain, gathering scientific samples that can be sent back to earth. Iota Flex wants to be a MiFi for voice and text
Would you believe us if we told you that that rubber bracelet-looking thing is actually going to have a built-in SIM card and bring voice / text capabilities to Android tablets, e-readers and netbooks via Bluetooth? Yeah, it sounds super crazy, but that's exactly what it'll eventually do. Convinced that 2G capabilities like talking and texting should be easier to add to MIDs, tablets and netbooks, Seattle-based startup Iota has come up with the Flex. It's definitely in the early stages of development, but in essence they see people clipping the bendable device to a bag, pairing it to an Android tablet, e-reader or MID, and then making calls from said devices.

Microsoft considers a Zune Pass price drop
Zune Pass already felt like a pretty sweet deal for music buffs -- $15 per month for unlimited streaming and 10 DRM-free MP3s -- and now Microsoft might be lowering the subscription price even further. Or so says Senior Product Manager Terry Farrell, who added, "it's a very definitely a challenging business." No indication what that new price might be, but just this past April, RealNetwork dropped Rhapsody's monthly fee from $15 to $10. If it does come to fruition, the new price would surely be a welcome boon to an already-promising Windows Phone 7 launch -- and maybe even Kin. Maybe.

OpenFeint hits 25 million users, announces 2.5 beta release

Microsoft may slash Zune Pass price to fuel Zune sales
Microsoft on Thursday said it might cut the price of its Zune Pass subscription service. Senior product lead Terry Farrell wouldn't say how certain this was or how much it might drop, but recognized that the Zune's $15 monthly, unlimited downloads weren't necessarily competing well. Euro publishers holding off iBookstore due to legal issues
European publishers are deliberately holding off on joining Apple's iBookstore due to potentially serious legal issues, publishers said on Thursday. Where the US iPad launched with nearly all major publishers onboard, Apple's insistence on an agency pricing model -- where it takes a fixed cut but lets publishers set the price -- could violate British laws. An FT contact likened it to "price fixing by the back door" in the UK interpretation.

Air Display app allows iPad to display expanded Mac desktop
Avatron has released an iPad app that allows it to act as an extra monitor for a computer, launching Air Display. The app allows the iPad to extend the screen of a Mac notebook or desktop machine, much like an external display, but 'connects' over Wi-Fi instead of a physical cable like a DVI cable. It supports displaying the screen extension in either portrait or landscape orientation and can be placed to the right or left of the Mac screen.

iTunes App Store TOS limits GPL, comes under fire from FSF
The FSF -- Free Software Foundation -- has raised an issue with the iTunes terms of service relating to the game GNU Go, which uses GPL code. The foundation suggested that the terms of service 'fundamentally conflict with the terms of the GNU Public License' according to arstechnica, and resulted in Apple's removal of the game from the store. The foundation had warned Apple that it was liable to comply with GPL terms that allow free sharing of code, stating that Apple's usage rules were in violation of the terms in regard to GNU Go.

Briefly: iBooks launched internationally, Fitted Artsprojekt
In preparation of the May 28th international iPad launch, Apple has added both iBooks and the mobile iWork applications to App Stores around the globe. While the iPad App Store was launched internationally at the end of last week, Apple's official apps were absent, limiting foreign owners of American iPads to third-party ePub files. After downloading the iBooks app, international users will be able to access all of the free titles offered in the book store, but will have to wait until the book store goes live to purchase other titles. It looks like those private beta rumors earlier this month were legit, seeing how Sling Media is now officially showing off its latest SlingPlayer Mobile incarnation on HTC's lovely EVO 4G for Sprint. Roku Player's new Netflix channel rolls out tomorrow, we go hands-on
Roku originally told us its new Netflix channel would roll out in June, but it looks like things are actually happening a little early -- the updated interface will go live starting tomorrow, and it'll be rolling out to everyone over the next week. As promised, the new interface lets you search the entire Netflix Watch Instantly library directly from your TV, and you'll be able to browse through Netflix categories like New Releases, Action, and Comedy as well, which definitely makes the casual turn-on-and-watch experience far easier and nicer. Viele hielten die Geschichte vom angeblich im Biergarten verlorenen Prototypen des nächsten iPhone von Anfang an für eine Marketing-Kampagne von Apple, mit der zugleich die Akzeptanz des Designs getestet werden sollte.
