Gesten-Geblätter: Google optimiert Bilder-Suche (Video)
Nach wie vor optimiert man bei Google die iPhone-freundlichen Web-Applikationen regelmäßig. So steht euch auf google.com nun eine komplett überarbeitete Bildersuche zur Verfügung. Neben der deutlich vergrößerten Thumbnail-Matrix, ist auch die Einzelansicht der gefundenen Bilder wesentlich Augen-freundlicher geworden.
So können die Suchergebnisse nun Bildschirmfüllend betrachtet werden und lassen sich - ähnlich wie in der Foto-Applikation des Weiterlesen

HP: opportunities for webOS 'smartphones, slates, and potentially netbooks'
Color us excited. HP's Todd Bradley just made an interesting proposition on the conference call about its Palm acquisition. Specifically, Bradley said, "Between smartphones, slates, and potentially netbooks, there are a lot of opportunities here." You read that right: slates and potentially netbooks. HP buying Palm for webOS tablets, patents
HP in a conference call discussing its buyout of Palm revealed that the deal was meant to get webOS and spread it beyond phones. Executives called webOS a "world-class" mobile platform and said it would put the software on "multiple connected devices" that it said could include tablets and netbooks. Palm's OS has true app multitasking and a heavy focus on the cloud that can be used to HP's advantage, the companies said in the call.

HP: 'We're doubling down on webOS,' Palm: 'That was the whole point'
We just spoke with both Brian Humphries, HP's Senior VP of Strategy and Corporate Development, and Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein, and came away with a pretty positive picture for the future of Palm. The money quote is that HP plans to be "doubling down on webOS," and that was confirmed in speaking with Palm's honcho, who says that "that was the whole point." Not only that, but we've confirmed on both ends that Jon will be staying on with the company, along with much of the existing Palm hierarchy. There are plenty of transition details to work out, but Jon says there will be lots of time for all that during regulatory and shareholder approval. Hulu backs out of UK, slips its own Android app
Hulu's plans shifted today with a pair of leaks, one of which is its own. A news tip from network executives alleges that the TV streaming service has been scrapped for the UK in the near future as they and Hulu have failed to reach deals. The Telegraph sources allege that ITV refuses to allow its content beyond its own web service and that both Channel 4 and Five object to Hulu having control over which ads are sold.

Next iPhone to go on sale during WWDC, not after?
In a change of pace, the next iPhone could be released during WWDC this year, rather than sometime after, say sources identified as "familiar with the situation." Since the introduction of the original iPhone, Apple has made it a habit to announce new models at WWDC, then launch them online and/or at retail a few weeks later. If the sources are correct, a next-generation iPhone could go on sale as soon as June 7th, when Apple will probably host the WWDC 2010 keynote.

Pentax launches Optio M90 in Europe
Pentax has signaled the near release of its latest compact digital camera, the 12.1-megapixel Optio M90. It comes coated in an uncommon rubber exterior for a better grip and has a relatively strong 5X wide angle digital zoom lens. Photos can be previewed on a 2.7-inch LCD screen and the camera has improved facial recognition features, smile capture and blink detection compared to older models.

iTunes takes over a quarter of 2009 US music sales
The iTunes Store was the source of more than a quarter of US music sales during 2009, even when squared off against combined digital and retail competition, figures from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry show. Apple contributed to a modest 1.1 percent growth in domestic digital sales, and a 9.2 percent increase for digital internationally, pushing the sector to $4.3 billion. The music industry as whole has continued to decline however, falling 7.2 percent to be worth $17 billion.

Intel said to be prepping 1.46GHz Core i7 ULV processor for this Fall
There's already been some rumors circulating that Intel would be rolling out a 1.33GHz Core i7 ULV processor this summer, and it now looks like that will be followed by an even faster low-voltage processor later in the Fall. That's when, according to Fudzilla, Intel will be launching a 1.46GHz Core i7 680UM processor, which reportedly has the same 18W TDP rating and 4MB of cache as its slower counterpart, and can clock all the way up to 2.53GHz in Turbo Boost mode. Unfortunately, there's not so much as a hint of pricing or any actual laptops that will use the processor, and Intel itself is of course keeping quiet on the matter for the time being.

World's largest curved plasma display flows into Japan's Kansi airport
Sure, we've seen 125-inch and a 145-inch curved plasma displays, but there's a new size champ in town: the international departure area at Japan's Kansai Airport was just graced with this 200-inch waterfall of a curved plasma. That's right around 13 feet by 10 feet, which is relatively insane -- no word on whether Jerry Jones is going to show up and play Gears of War on it anytime soon.

AT&T posts fast facts on iPad 3G data plans
There's nothing groundbreaking in here, but AT&T has just thrown up a good one-page summary of how this whole WWAN thing is going to go down for new iPad 3G owners come this Friday. Google late yesterday revamped its Place Pages in its search specifically for mobile devices. The pages show a quick summary of a restaurant, club or other hotspot in a small format and taps into relevant info when it's made public, such as store hours or reviews. Lexus shows off hybrid bicycle, won't sell you one
This Lexus bicycle has apparently been quietly making the rounds since the last year's Tokyo Motor Show, but the automaker has rolled it out again to coincide with the Great British Bike Ride, and it's taken the opportunity to dish some details on it. While it's still just a concept, it does exist in prototype form, and packs a 240-Watt electric motor that's powered by a 25.9-volt lithium battery pack, which promises to give you a little extra push when you're tired of pedaling. Windows Live Messenger for iPhone previewed

Sprint halves its quarterly customer loss, increases revenue for the first time in ages
If you can find the silver linings, the news is finally getting a little better over at the number three largest carrier in the States after countless quarters of brutal numbers. Sprint still isn't turning a profit or earning net customer adds, but it's continuing to stem losses by posting its first sequential rise in revenue in almost three years, clocking just under $8.1 billion for the quarter; that's still less than the revenue it posted a year ago, but hey, at least it's an improvement over Q4 2009's roughly $7.8 billion. Apple buys Siri, gets basic search to challenge Google
An FTC filing today revealed that Apple has quietly bought out Siri. The deal gives Apple the creator of an iPhone personal assistant app that can automatically handle common tasks through searches, such as hailing a cab or buying tickets for a movie at a nearby theater. Apple has purchased mobile assistant app Siri
Filed under: Apple CorporateSiri, the so-called mobile assistant for iPhone, has been purchased by Apple, according to Business Insider (we first looked at Siri in February). If we know you at all (and we think we know you pretty well) you'll probably be amused and titillated to learn that Vodafone has announced that its first Android phone will be available this May. The Vodafone 845 -- which we first saw in an FCC filing a couple weeks ago -- certainly is, in the UK idiom, a "budget blower." Featuring Android 2.1, a 2.8-inch (240 x 320) touchscreen, 3.2-megapixel camera, 128MB RAM, and 512MB storage, there is nothing too terribly wild here, but you know what? Criminal, First Amendment lawyers join defense versus Apple
The people responsible for exposing the next-generation iPhone have hired a pair of lawyers to defend represent them amidst ongoing investigations, according to reports in the legal media. Gizmodo editor Jason Chen is noted to have hired Thomas Nolan Jr., an experienced criminal defense attorney from the firm of Nolan, Armstrong & Barton, based in Palo Alto. "I don't know whether he's the target of the criminal probe or whether they're trying to get information about sources from him," says the attorney.

This isn't the first time that would-be competitors in the Rocket Racing League have taken to the skies, but the recent Tusla Air & Rocket Racing Show did mark the first time that two of the aircraft have flown together, giving spectators a taste of what an actual rocket race might be like. ITC überprüft Elans Patentrechtsklage gegen Apple
Die International Trade Commission (ITC) hat ein formales Verfahren gegen Apple eingeleitet. Apple wird von Elan Microelectronics beschuldigt, mit iPad, iPhone und iPod touch Multitouchpatente verletzt zu haben.

South Korea lifts ban on iPad, personal imports permitted

South Korea's ban of the iPad is being lifted.
The Korea Communications Commission issued the ban earlier this month because it had not certified the iPad's wireless networking features. Under the restriction, customers would not be allowed to import the iPad for personal use. An additional concern, the Wall Street Journal notes, was that people would buy iPads in large quantity to re-sell.

Intel readying 1.46GHz ultra-low voltage Core i7
Intel is planning a second significant update to its ultra-low voltage mobile chips besides what's on schedule for the summer, according to leaks. Besides the 1.33GHz Core i7 slated for the summer, a 1.46GHz Core i7, the 680UM, is also now believed due for the fall. Nokia today staked out its ground in the smartphone wars by launching the N8, its new flagship. The flagship Android and iPhone devices are the models that dominate mobile Internet traffic, according to new data from AdMob. Among Apple devices, the iPhone 3GS had by far the most use at 39 percent of all its hardware; the Motorola Droid had almost as much control of Android phones at 32 percent of all Google's traffic. ITC agrees to probe Elan complaints about Apple multi-touch
The US International Trade Commission has officially agreed to investigate a patent infringement allegation against Apple, submitted by Taiwan's Elan Microelectronics. The two companies have been involved in a long-running legal dispute, as Elan accuses Apple of violating patents related to multi-touch technology. On the basis of one patent, Elan in late March filed a motion with the ITC to block US sales of infringing products, potentially including the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, MacBook and Magic Mouse.

AMD ships six-core Phenom II X6
AMD this morning at last took the wraps from its first mainstream six-core processor, the Phenom II X6. It adds two new cores but without changing the power draw compared to AMD's faster quad-cores or even the price, letting regular users get added speed in newer games and other very parallel tasks. They also add a Turbo Core feature which, like Intel's Turbo Boost, shuts down unneeded cores while ramping up the clock speed; as many as three cores can be active at the higher speeds.

Panic has officially launched Transmit 4, a long-awaited upgrade to the company's FTP software, which last saw a major update in 2005. The program in fact handles file transfer and sync via several protocols, including FTP, WebDAV and Amazon S3. Its interface can been completely revised, streamlined while gaining new features such as a path bar and a Places pop-up window. Similarly, a component called Transmit Disk allows servers to be opened as Finder volumes.

Spotify adds social networking, user's own music
Online music service Spotify has issued its biggest update to date, using Facebook Connect to integrate friends that are also Spotify users. These friends will become visible in the Spotify browser, and activities can be published to Facebook profiles and within Spotify at the same time. This can include playlists users create, profiles, weekly top six tracks and artists, and subscription activity.

Opera 10.52 makes speed, navigation enhancements
Opera has posted a new Mac version, v10.52, of its self-named desktop web browser. The release is the first non-beta update for the Mac since v10.10, and is claimed to be over 10 times faster than its predecessor. This can be attributed in part to an updated JavaScript engine, Carakan, and an updated graphics library, Vega.

Eye-Fi adds Geo X2 card, support for web hotspots
Eye-Fi today added both a new card and a major expansion of its support for hotspot cards. The 4GB Geo X2 combines the geolocation support of the original Geo with the Class 6 (6MBps) transfer speeds, 802.11n Wi-Fi and "endless" memory of other X2 cards. It's targeted primarily at Mac users using Aperture 3 or iPhoto '09 and will be available only through Apple stores in May for $70.

IDC: netbook demand cooling off
Interest in netbooks has slowed dramatically in the first few months of 2010, according to new data from IDC. The number of the mini netbooks shipping grew less than 20 percent in the first quarter of the year and was accompanied by a steep drop in interest for the Atom processors that power them. Intel's shipments of Atoms dropped from just over 24 percent of all notebook processors to 20 percent; the revenue from the chips dropped 19 percent at the same time.

Aliph Jawbone Icon adds A2DP audio streaming
Aliph today released an update to its Jawbone Icon Bluetooth headset for cellphones that gives it ability to stream music and other audio files. It now has A2DP and lets users get any audio regardless of the type, such as from navigation apps or Internet radio stations. Nokia decries N8 leak, takes jabs at Apple culture
Nokia followed up the launch of the N8 today with a shot at both leak culture and at Apple. It attacked the existence of a very early review using a prototype and said that the test using "dated" software "wasn't much fun" for Nokia. The firm likened its situation to Apple's attempt to recover its iPhone and half-jokingly called for Russian site Mobile-Review to give back the missing N8.

Steve Jobs may speak at D8 conference
Apple chief Steve Jobs may present at this year's D8 conference, a rumor this afternoon suggests. The executive has "tentatively" agreed to answer questions at the Rancho Palos Verdes-based event and, if so, would be at the same event as Microsoft's Steve Ballmer as well as Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and other tech luminaries. GSM hack could find subscriber names, phone locations
Two security researchers have unearthed a way to take advantage of GSM networks to locate and find the number of any individual anywhere in the world. Don Bailey from iSec Partners and independent security researcher Nick DePetrillo made the finding, which brings up privacy and security concerns. The vulnerabilities are neither software nor hardware related, but tie into the architecture of the network itself.

Samsung, Sony seen readying Android-based TVs
Samsung may have inadvertently tipped Google's hand and confirmed the existence of Google TV in remarks made late yesterday. Google exec sees Android overtaking BlackBerry, iPhone
Android will inevitably get larger than the BlackBerry or iPhone, Google's engineering VP Andy Rubin argued today in a bold statement. He saw it as "just a matter of time" since the open nature of Android meant it could be used by multiple phone makers and multiple devices where the in-house Apple and RIM platforms are limited by their nature. Facebook videos make switch to HTML5
Social networking website Facebook has begun switching some of its videos over to HTML5, accounts say. Formerly, any videos native to the site were displayed in a Flash player. With the conversion to HTML5, videos should now be compatible with Apple handhelds such as the iPad and the iPhone. Next iPhone expected to trigger flash memory shortage
The next iPhone will trigger another memory shortage, DRAMeXchange estimated today. It expects Apple to ship 40 million iPhones this year, a major leap from 25 million a year ago, and that this will risk a shortage by using as much as 9 percent of all NAND flash memory. Sprint sees rare revenue boost, loses 'just' 75,000 users
Sprint today reported one of its better quarters in recent memory but still faced significant losses. It saw its first quarter-to-quarter revenue increase in almost three years, up to $8.07 billion, and saw far fewer losses than it did a year ago, losing a relatively modest 75,000 customers. A total of 48.1 million subscribers use Sprint as of March.

Apple beginnt in den USA mit Versand des iPad WiFi+3G
Wie 9to5Mac berichtet, hat Apple nun in den USA damit begonnen, die ersten iPad WiFi+3G zu versenden. Apple disses the desktop?

As we noted, the WWDC 2010 dates have been set, and the new pages have been posted. Several folks are noting with dismay, though, that the Apple Design Awards appear to have completely forsaken desktop apps this year, instead only allowing submissions which are available on the App Store. This obviously would make the ADAs specific to iPod touch, iPhone and iPad apps, disallowing any of the magnificent software for the desktop that we've seen highlighted in years past.

Zukunft von Militärhubschraubern macht aus Piloten eine "Option"
Vor fünf Jahren war es der Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk, der über ein digitales Cokpit und über Fly-by-Wire verfügte. Ab 2011 sollen Projekte mit Helikoptern ganz ohne Piloten noch weiter forciert werden. Die US Army veröffentlichte eine 140 Seiten starke Roadmap mit dem Titel "Unmanned Aircraft Systems Roadmap". Die Modelle UH-60, AH-64, CH-47 und OH-58D werden Bestandteil einer neuen Gattung namens OPV werden (Optionally Piloted Vehicles). So werden Piloten für Kriegshubschrauber reines Beiwerk im übertriebenen Sinne. Vor 2025 soll man aber nicht von Serienreife sprechen können, bis dahin sollen dann aber auch komplexere Abläufe wie Schwarm-fliegen funkionieren. Das Paper gibt es hinter dem Link.

PadRacer: iPad wird Rennbahn und iPod touch bzw. iPhone zum Lenkrad
Eine sehr nette Spielidee präsentiert sich uns mit dem App Store-Neuzugang PadRacer (3,99 Euro). Vorab eine Warnung: Damit man das Rennspiel spielen kann, benötigt man mindestens ein iPad und einen iPod touch bzw. ein iPhone.
Das iPad wird flach auf den Boden gelegt und bildet die Rennstrecke ab, maximal vier Spieler können dann ihre iPods oder iPhones per Bluetooth mit dem iPad verbinden und jeweils ihren eigenen kleinen Oldtimer-Rennwagen steuern. The floppy disk is dead (and Apple helped kill it)
It was 1997 and Apple had just released the iMac G3. It was a beautiful interesting computer: a sleek, all-in-one case, with something new called USB. One thing it didn't have was a floppy disk. At the time, many believed Apple was insane for leaving a floppy disk drive off the iMac, but did Steve Jobs care? Nope. The floppy was archaic technology to him. A CD-ROM drive was where it's at.
Well, thirteen years later -- almost a decade after most people stopped using floppy disks, Sony, the inventor of the floppy disk, has officially announced that they are killing the 1.44MB storage device. As of next year, Sony will no longer manufacture the floppy disk.

WePad startet bei Amazon auf Platz 2 der Bestsellerliste

Zwar wird das WePad erst im August ausgeliefert, aber die Vorbestellungen gehen bei Amazon bereits jetzt durch die Decke. Seit Dienstag sind beide Modelle gelistet. Die 16GB-Version mit WLAN und die 32GB-Variante mit WLAN und UMTS. Platz 2 nimmt das 32GB-Gerät bereits jetzt in der Bestsellerliste ein, was das in Zahlen bedeutet, können wir leider nicht sagen. OLED macht Nachtsichttechnik für die Zukunft superdünn

An der University of Florida hat man vielleicht die Nachtsichttechnik revolutioniert. Erstaunlich einfach kann man anscheinend mit dünnen Filmen Infarotlicht filtern und auf OLEDs spielen, was zum Beispiel auf "normalen" Brillen angebracht werden kann.
Im Vergleich zu klassischen Nachtsichtgeräten die sehr viel Strom benötigen, lässt sich mit dieser Technologie der Verbrauch auf bis zu 5 Volt reduzieren. Bald könnten so Handykameras damit ausgestattet werden oder gar Windschutzscheiben in Autos, um nachts eine bessere Sicht für die Fahrer zu ermöglichen.

SAP meldet Umsatz- und Gewinnanstieg
SAP hat seine vorläufigen Ergebnisse für das erste Quartal des Geschäftsjahres 2010 veröffentlicht. Der GAAP-Gesamtumsatz stieg unter Berücksichtigung von Wechselkurseinflüssen gegenüber der Vorjahresperiode um 5 Prozent auf 2,509 Milliarden Euro (2009: 2,397 Milliarden Euro). Das EBIT-Betriebsergebnis lag mit 557 Millionen Euro 81 Prozent über Vorjahresniveau (2009: 307 Millionen Euro).

Ungefähr einen Monat nach der Veröffentlichung von Mac OS X 10.6.3 beginnt Apple mit der Verteilung der ersten Builds des Nachfolgers 10.6.4. Verlorenes iPhone 4G: Streit um Hausdurchsuchung
Die Staatsanwaltschaft von San Mateo County hat die gestrige Hausdurchsuchung bei einem Journalisten gerechtfertigt, der für Gizmodo über einen von einem Apple-Angestellten verlorenen Prototyp des iPhone 4G berichtet und das Gerät im Namen seiner Redaktion für 5000 Dollar angekauft hatte. Apple kauft Chiphersteller Intrinsity
Wie die New York Times berichtet, hat Apple kürzlich den Chiphersteller Intrinsity gekauft. Zwar fehlen konkrete Details zum Deal oder gar der Kaufpreis, jedoch könnten laut Analysten circa 121 Millionen Dollar geflossen sein. Intrinsity ist unter anderem für die Herstellung des ARM Cortex-A8 bekannt. Jener Chip, der vermutlich unter dem Namen "Apple A4" im iPad seinen Dienst verrichtet. Mit Intrinsity holte sich Apple nebst P.A. Semi nun schon den zweiten Chiphersteller unter das eigene Dach. Ein Deal, der den Schritt in eine Chipautonomität weiter voranbringen könnte.

Bestätigt: Apple kauft Chip-Optimierer Intrinsity
Jetzt ist es offiziell: Wie die New York Times berichtet, hat Apple bestätigt, die Chip-Schmiede Intrinsity übernommen zu haben. Die texanische Firma ist auf die Optimierung von ARM-Prozessoren spezialisiert und soll nach Informationen der Zeitung dazu beigetragen haben, den A4 Prozessor des iPad von zuvor 650 auf 1000 Megahertz Taktfrequenz zu beschleunigen.

Googles Android-Chef Andy Rubin verspricht volle Flash-Unterstützung in Android 2.2 aka Froyo

Andy Rubin, seines Zeichens Android-Chefbeauftragter bei Google, hat sich gegenüber der "New York Times" ausführlich zur weiteren Entwicklung des OS geäußert. Wirklich bemerkenswert dabei ist, dass Rubin volle Flash-Unterstützung in Android 2.2 aka Froyo ankündigt, was keine 180-Gradwendung aber einen ordentlichen Schwenk zur bisherigen Position darstellt. Zur Begründung sagte Rubin, dass "open" für ihn auch bedeutet, "nicht militant gegen Dinge zu sein, die Konsumenten offensichtlich mögen". Gerüchteküche: Nokia C2 soll rotierende Zweidrittel-QWERTY-Tastatur haben

Nachdem Nokia neulich die Modelle C3, C4, und C5 vorgestellt hat, drängt sich natürlich die Frage auf: Wo bleiben C1 und C2? Wenn es nach diesem miesen Screen-Foto geht, wird das C2 eine rotierende Tastatur haben, in der T-Stellung soll so jeweils eine QWERTY-Dritteltastatur links und rechts neben dem Display platziert sein. Sinn und Zweck dieser Übung erschließt sich uns leider nicht richtig, aber vielleicht ist ja alles nur Gerüchteküche. Oder Nokia hat sich wirklich mal wieder was oberschlaues ausgedacht. It's also the first submarine that can run a sizable percentage of forever without requiring a charge. Infineon hebt nach starkem Quartal Jahresprognose erneut an
Infineon hat auch das zweite Quartal seines Geschäftsjahrs 2010 (bis 31. März) mit einem deutlichen Gewinnplus abgeschlossen und daraufhin erneut seine Prognose für das Gesamtjahr angehoben. Verlorenes iPhone: Strafverfolger rechtfertigen Hausdurchsuchung
Die Staatsanwaltschaft von San Mateo County hat die gestrige Hausdurchsuchung bei einem Journalisten gerechtfertigt, der für Gizmodo über einen von einem Apple-Angestellten verlorenen Prototyp des iPhone 4G berichtet und das Gerät im Namen seiner Redaktion für 5000 Dollar angekauft hatte. Auf der Automobilmesse in Peking zeigt der chinesische Hersteller Geely derzeit ein Modell, dass wie eines der zahllosen Konzeptstudien daherkommt, die es nie auf den Markt schaffen werden, weil sie ohnehin nur das Markenimage aufpeppen sollen. Der Hybrid Geely IG soll allerdings in zwei Jahren zu haben sein, Flügeltüren und Solarzellen auf Dach und Motorhaube inklusive. Wenn Geely dieses Versprechen tatsächlich einlöst, dürfte auch niemand mehr über die VW-Käfer-Designanleihen meckern. Abwarten.

Firefox now available for Android 2.0 and above, still at pre-alpha stage
Fennec, Mozilla's codeword for mobile Firefox builds, has just made its pre-alpha debut on Android. The tastefully named Vladimir Vukićević informs us that it's pretty much a debug release, with unoptimized memory utilization and some quirks rebooting the app when it's started and when add-ons are installed, but it is at a stage where the devs felt they could get useful feedback from a broader user base. IDC sieht Ende des Netbook-Booms gekommen
IDC wird im Lauf dieser Woche eine Analyse veröffentlichen, wonach die Nachfrage nach Netbooks abnimmt und die Billig-Notebooks möglicherweise ihren Zenit überschritten haben. iPad: Vorbestellung in Deutschland ab 10. Mai möglich
Ab 10. Mai kann man das iPad WiFi in Deutschland vorbestellen. Ab Ende Mai wird das Apple-Tablet dann auch offiziell verfügbar sein, das iPad WiFi+3G wird zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt folgen.

Bereits vor einigen Wochen kamen Gerüchte auf, wonach Apple neben P.A. Semi noch weitere Chip-Entwickler übernommen hat. Auslöser war die lange Entwicklungszeit von mindestens 3 Jahren bei Prozessoren. Da die Übernahme von P.A. Semi erst rund 2 Jahre zurückliegt, ist es unwahrscheinlich, dass im iPad ein von P.A. 100 Millionen Lizenzen machen Windows 7 zu Microsofts OS-Verkaufsschlager
Microsoft-Chef Steve Ballmer hatte bereits im November 2009 stolz berichtet, dass Windows 7 wie geschnitten Brot wegginge - genauer als "im ersten Monat doppelt so gut wie alle Vorgänger" wollte Ballmer aber nicht werden. Jetzt wurde der Konzern konkreter und gab bekannt, dass Windows 7 bereits 100 Millionen mal lizenziert wurde und bereits auf 10 Prozent aller PCs läuft. Damit verkauft sich Windows 7 so gut wie noch kein Microsoft OS zuvor.

Neue iPod-/iPhone-Soundsysteme von Pioneer
Pioneer hat für den Sommer neue iPod- und iPhone-kompatible Audiosysteme angekündigt.
Die baugleichen beiden Dual-Docks XW-NAC1 und XW-NAC3 laden zwei iPods oder iPhones gleichzeitig und erlauben den Zugriff auf die Musikbibliotheken von beiden Geräten. Im sogenannten "Double Shuffle"-Modus spielen die Soundsysteme auf Wunsch auch selbstständig einen Musikmix aus beiden Quellen. Der empfohlene Verkaufspreis für das Basismodell liegt bei 349 US-Dollar, wer obendrauf gerne noch die Möglichkeit der Audioübertragung per Bluetooth, Internetradio sowie DLNA-Support hätte, wird von Pioneer mit 449 Dollar zur Kasse gebeten. Beide Modelle verfügen über einen Composite-Videoausgang für die Wiedergabe von auf dem iPod bzw. iPhone gespeicherten Filmen.

The Texas-based fabless semiconductor company was widely thought to be the engineering brains behind the iPad's A4 system-on-a-chip. Intrinsity's 1 GHz hummingbird processor was developed in partnership with Samsung last year, and the A4 is believed to be based on that technology.

Some retailers in Japan stopping online sale of Apple products
Filed under: Apple CorporateThe Nikkei Business Daily is reporting that several large discount chains have stopped selling Apple products online. Some of the retailers have been quoted as saying the request comes from Apple.
The dropped products include iPods and iMacs.
Yodobashi Camera Company posted a notice online saying it wasn't going to be selling any more Apple products out of respect for Apple's wishes. It said it would be glad to sell Apple products in any of its retail stores.
Several other Japanese discounters have said they won't be selling Apple products online, but are available to customers who come into the retail outlets.

Windows 7 hits 100 million licenses mark, becomes Microsoft's fastest-selling OS
It's hardly been a secret that Windows 7 was on track to become Microsoft's fastest-selling operating system, but the company has just now finally made that designation official, and also revealed that the OS has crossed the magical 100 million licenses sold mark in the process. In other words, that translates to Windows 7 being installed on one in ten of the world's PCs just six months after it launched, which is pretty darn impressive any way you slice it -- or punch it, as the case may be.
