AT&T nearly doubles iPhone early termination rates
Filed under: iPhoneAT&T announced yesterday a new "carrot and stick" pricing plan for early termination fees (ETF) of cellphone contracts, beginning with new contracts starting June 1st. The carrot is that for new two-year agreements or upgrades on what they refer to as "basic and quick messaging phones," the ETF will be reduced from $175 to $150 and be further reduced by $4 for each month of the contract. Well, that's very nice of them, but it probably doesn't affect anyone reading this post.
The stick is that for anyone using higher-end devices such as smartphones, including the iPhone, the ETF will nearly double from $175 to $325 and reduce by $

Weitere Hinweise auf Videotelefonie im 4. iPhone
Bilder von verlorenen iPhone Prototypen haben wir in den letzten Wochen einige gesehen. Auffällig war auf diesen Bildern eine Kamera, die zum Bildschirm gerichtet ist. Vor allem für Videotelefonie ist eine solche Kamera sinnvoll. Boy Genius Report veröffentlichte nun Screenshots einer Test Firmware, die auf einem der verlorenen iPhones laufen soll. Hier findet sich eine Einstellung um Videotelefonie zu untersuchen.

Apple iPad shipments now getting hopes up in UK and Australia
Heads up! We've gotten a ton of tips from our friends across the pond and down under that Apple's now sending shipment notifications for those who pre-ordered the iPad -- both the 3G and WiFi-only models, from what we've seen -- about one week before that famed May 28 international launch date. Mac-Version von Steam sehr erfolgreich
Der Spielehersteller Valve zeigt sich mit dem Start der Mac-Version von Steam hochzufrieden. Bereits 1,5 Millionen Mal sei das Programm herunter geladen worden, obwohl Steam erst seit Mitte letzter Woche verfügbar ist. Der Steam-Client ist auf allen Intel-Macs mit Mac OS X 10.5.8 oder Mac OS X 10.6.3 lauffähig.

Sync Wars: Address Book vs. Google Contacts

iPhone-Screenshot: “Video Calls Debugging” + neue iPad-Lieferungen aus dem Online Store erst wieder im (späten) ‘Juni’
Weitere Apple-Interna, die ‘The Boy Genius Report’ zugespielt wurden, deuten ziemlich unmissverständlich auf eine Videotelefonie in der nächsten iPhone-Generation hin. Die Bezeichnung “Video Calls Debugging” dürfte auf eine Diagnose-Software, für die auf den Benutzer gerichtete Mobilfunk-Kamera im neuen Gerät, verweisen.

Sony Alpha NEX-5 in the wild, plays David to A330's Goliath
Talk about envy. One of our lucky tipsters just wrote in to talk about the training he did this week for -- and here's the kicker -- Sony's brand new Alpha NEX-5. HP Taiwan reportedly reaffirms pre-October launch for webOS tablet
Don't mind us taking a few grains of salt on this one, but according Digitimes, HP Taiwan Vice President Monty Wong has confirmed a webOS-powered tablet is due out in the market before the fiscal year ending in October. This jibes with what we heard earlier this month, including the common sense caveat that more details will be forthcoming only after the Palm acquisition is completed near the end of July. Rumor: Chicago's North/Halsted Apple Store opening this July

Radio Shack stores getting WiMAX upgrades ahead of Evo launch?
While there's certainly plenty to love about HTC's EVO 4G, that 4G in the title is certainly one of the major draws. We're guessing it'll be a little easier to sell the things if customers can experience the wonders of WiMAX for themselves, so that's probably why RadioShack is (according to our tipster) installing these Clearwire WiMAX repeaters in at least some of its stores ahead of the May 30 launch of the phone there. This will effectively turn The Shack into 4G hotspots and, while we're not sure of the range of these bad boys, this is a good thing even if it extends the reach of WiMAX just a few feet further into our lives. Android 2.2's Froyo goodness hitting the Nexus One already?
Sometimes it's good to be the chosen child, the special one, and in the eyes of Google the Nexus One is that special phone -- at least for the moment. Fable III erscheint doch für den PC

iPad-Neubesteller müssen sich gedulden
Während die ersten iPad-Frühbesteller inzwischen auch in Deutschland Versandbestätigungen erhalten haben, bleibt die Liefersituation weiter angespannt. Das Versanddatum für Neubestellungen gibt Apple im deutschen Online-Store inzwischen nur noch ohne konkretes Datum mit "Juni" an.
In den USA müssen iPad-Besteller momentan zwischen sieben und zehn Tagen Wartezeit bis zum Versand einplanen.

Bekommt das iPhone HD andere Farben?
In wenigen Wochen wird das neue iPhone präsentiert. Nach den diversen Fotos und Videos von angeblichen Prototypen, stellt sich die Frage: Bleibt das neue iPhone in den Farben „black and white“?
Möglich wäre auch andere Farbkombinationen. Diese möglichen Optionen wurden zwischenzeitlich aufgegriffen und bildlich gut umgesetzt. Wobei ich persönlich keines dieser neuen farbigen Modelle mag. Aber über Geschmack lässt sich streiten. Ich glaube nicht daran, dass Apple von seinem Linie abweicht und uns vielleicht ein „Pink iPhone HD“ präsentiert.
Was meint ihr dazu, oder welche Farbe wäre euer Favorit?

Pacman feiert 30. Geburtstag
Das Kultspiel Pac Man wurde exakt heute vor 30 Jahren veröffentlicht. Google gratuliert auf ganz besondere Weise und hat als Doodle (so nennt man die zu besonderen Anlässen erscheinenden Logo-Varianten) ein kleines Pac Man-Spiel auf die deutsche Suchseite gestellt. Einfach unten auf "Münze einwerfen" klicken und los gehts.

LG Ally release pushed back a week for reasons unknown
You remember those Android 2.1-powered LG Allys that were supposed to go on sale with Big Red earlier this week? Yeah, well, they didn't, and Verizon's site is still showing them as pre-orders. We're not sure what's going on there, but pre-orders are being extended through the 26th with sales commencing on the 27th; folks that have already pre-ordered the phone are apparently getting emails explaining the situation and letting them know that they'll be "the first to receive the phone upon initial availability on or after May 27th." Amazon: WeTab kommt erst im September 2010

11 percent of Steam purchases made on Macs
Valve as part of its first weekly update to the Mac Steam library revealed that Macs make up a disproportionately large number of game buyers. About 11 percent of downloads on the service now go to Macs, two thirds of which are portables. The developer also took a jab at Windows and noted that Portal was a fifth as likely to crash on Mac as it was on Windows platforms.

MSI rolls out Wind U160DX netbook with 15-hour battery
It may just seem like yesterday that MSI was introducing its Wind U160 netbook at CES, but the company's now already back with an updated model in time for Computex: the Wind U160DX. While it's outward appearance remains mostly the same, the netbook's internals have been upgraded across the board, including a new Atom N455 processor, some DDR3 memory, MSI's own "Turbo Drive Engine" and, last but not least, a 15-hour battery (aided in part by MSI's ECO power management system). Still no word on pricing or availability for this one,

Acer, ASUS make huge strides in European market share
Acer and ASUS have together snapped up large portions of the western European computer market in the first part of the year, Gartner found in a breakdown of PC sales. Acer managed to hold the top spot in the continent in the first quarter of 2010 with 23.4 percent. Its frequent Taiwanese rival ASUS successfully pushed itself into fourth place through a major spike in market share from just 4.8 percent a year earlier to 7.9 percent today.
