SK Telecom hurt by cuts to keep up with iPhone
South Korean carrier SK Telecom has reported lackluster financial performance for the first quarter of the year, with net profits rising only 1.6 percent from a year earlier, according to a Wall Street Journal report. Despite the modest gain in net profit, operating profit showed a 15 percent decline in the same period.

Adobe CEO rejects Jobs complaints as 'smokescreen'
Steve Jobs' latest complaints about Adobe and Flash are groundless, suggests Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen. Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, Narayen argues for instance that Adobe content is indeed open, as it is available on multiple platforms and can be formatted for multiple devices. This may be what Apple is really concerned about, the CEO says.

Canon AE-1 Program SLR gets a digital retrofit
A classic SLR film camera gutted and given a digital upgrade -- blasphemy? Maybe, but there's no denying that this mod by Diego Monge is plenty impressive. He started out with a Canon AE-1 Program SLR, and apparently simply stuffed the guts of a compact digital camera of some sort inside, resulting in what he calls the AE-1 Program Digital -- a 9-megapixel camera complete with image stabilization, a functional flash, and 4GB of memory (non-removable, it seems). Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any details on the build process, let alone a how-to, but you can at least get a glimpse of it in action in the video after the break.

First Looks: Marware Eco-Envi for iPad
Surprisingly neat considering that it's essentially just an oversized leather envelope with a soft, suede-like interior, Marware's Eco-Envi for iPad ($50) comes in either all-black or white with a blue interior, with room inside to safely hold an iPad. Velcro keeps the case closed, and Marware touts the leather as being environmentally friendlier than traditional leather, using an RoHS-compliant tanning process.

Mit dem knapp 50 Euro teuren BookStand macht Macally dem hier von uns vorgestellten Apple iPad Case Konkurrenz. Nach dem selben Prinzip lässt sich die Hülle sowohl als senkrechter Ständer wie auch als leicht schräg gestellte Unterlage für die iPad-Nutzung auf Knien, Tisch oder Bett nutzen.

Microsoft confirms, kills Courier in one fell swoop
Well this is depressing. Word has just gone fluttering out of Redmond that work on the Courier project -- a heretofore rumored dual-screen tablet which rightfully set the tech world ablaze -- has been spun down by the company. Here's the official line from Frank Shaw, Microsoft's VP of corporate communications:
At any given time, across any of our business groups, there are new ideas being investigated, tested, and incubated. It's in Microsoft's DNA to continually develop and incubate new technologies to foster productivity and creativity. The "Courier" project is an example of this type of effort and its technologies will be evaluated for use in future Microsoft offerings, but we have no plans to build such a device at this time.

Microsoft has already killed the Courier tablet
Microsoft has killed its Courier dual-screen tablet before it even became a real product, reports from within the company said. CEO Steve Ballmer told the Courier team on Wednesday that the project would "no longer be supported" even though it had never been made public. The reasons why hasn't been divulged to Gizmodo or any other source so far.

Adobe CEO reponds to Steve's Flash rant

The conclusion to the sudden flurry of rumors around Sony HDTVs featuring Android, Intel Atom processors and Logitech-designed QWERTY remotes may be near, as Bloomberg Businessweek reports the project will be revealed during Google I/O next month. Steve Jobs: Gedanken über Flash
Als Reaktion auf die Diskussion über die fehlende Flash-Unterstützung des iPhones und auch des iPads hat Apple-CEO Steve Jobs einen offenen Brief veröffentlicht, in dem er Apples Standpunkt in der Flash-Frage erläutert. Steve Jobs betont, dass hinter Apples Entscheidung gegen Flash ausschliesslich technologische Überlegungen stecken. Insgesamt nennt Jobs sechs Gründe, warum Apple auf Flash verzichtet:
1.) Flash ist ein proprietäres Format und wird vollständig von Adobe kontrolliert. Steve meint hingegen, Web-Technologien müssten offen sein und nennt HTML5, CSS und JavaScript als entsprechende Beispiele.
2.) Fast alle Flash-Videos liegen ohnehin auch im h.264-Format vor. Für Video bietet Flash gemäss Steve Jobs keinerlei Vorteile und auf Flash-Games seien iPhone- und iPad-Nutzer angesichts des grossen App-Angebotes auch nicht angewiesen.
3.) Flash ist unzuverlässig, unsicher und langsam. Adobe habe sich kaum bemüht, die Sicherheitslücken im Flash-Plugin zu beheben und sei noch immer den Beweis schuldig, d

Adobe's CEO: Jobs' Flash letter is a 'smokescreen' for 'cumbersome' restrictions
There's no official transcript yet, but the Wall Street Journal just live-blogged an interview with Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen, in which he responded to the Steve Jobs "Thoughts on Flash" letter posted this morning. Substantively, Narayen didn't offer much we haven't heard Adobe say before, but his frustration with Apple is palpable even in summary form: he called Jobs' points a "smokescreen," said Flash is an "open specification," and further said Apple's restrictions are "cumbersome" to developers and have "nothing to do with technology." iPhone apps rise to 21 percent of Gameloft sales
French company Gameloft, one of the largest mobile game publishers in the world, reports that in the first quarter of 2010, iPhone apps accounted for 21 percent of its sales. The number compares against a figure for the whole of 2009, during which iPhone games represented only 14 percent of the company's sales. Some 63 Gameloft titles are at the App Store, including N.O.V.A., Brothers in Arms 2: Global Front and Earthworm Jim.

Sony taken to court over PS3 'Other OS' removal
Sony forced PS3 owners into a tough decision with the mandatory 3.21 firmware update: either lose online play, or forgo Linux support. HTC's phone shipments leap 40% year-over-year
HTC has seen a rush of phone sales and now expects its smartphone shipments to jump 40 percent, to 7.8 million phones, for the first half of 2010. The revelation came after HTC said it should move 4.5 million phones in the spring alone. In the winter, its shipments had already jumped by 37 percent to 3.3 million based on still-strong sales in the US and revived demand in Asia and Europe.

Poseidon floating power plant features wind turbines, location for Waterworld II
We've seen plenty of attempts to harnass the movement of the sea for power, including underwater turbines and Searaser pumps, but those technologies are sadly unreliable. Denmark's Floating Power Plant has thought of that, however -- ingeniously outfitting its 350-ton Poseidon platform with wind turbines as well as the underwater variety, so it can harvest energy even when the sea is calm. iPad 3G pre-orders arrive ahead of schedule
Some iPad 3Gs are already being delivered, reports say. Even though shipments only recently began, and Apple's official release date is the 30th, photos have surfaced showing the device in the hands of people today. 3G models can be identified by a side slot for micro SIM cards, and a plastic strip on the back meant to improve 3G reception.

iPhone covered front to back with camera-related rumors
Well, here's a nice bit of symmetry to emerge from the Apple rumor mill in recent days -- some new purported details on both the rear and front-facing camera on the next-generation iPhone. The first, and more straightforward of the two, comes courtesy of The Chosum Ilbo, which is reporting that the next iPhone will pack a 5-megapixel camera supplied by LG Innotek. Details on it are otherwise pretty light, but the site says that LG has already started producing the "sophisticated cameras" at its plant in Gumi this month, with mass production supposedly set to begin in the second half of this year. TomTom to make app store to fend off Apple, Google
TomTom chief Harold Goddijn in a presentation said his company would create an app store for its GPS units. The company lead explained on Thursday that the new WebKit-based interface on the Go Live 1000 and future navigators would let developers roll out apps well-suited to driving. Augmented reality was floated as a possibility, although Goddijn expected it would only be a minor feature; it would require a camera to work properly.

Die nutzen jetzt die Hardwarebeschleunigung für H.264 Videos (ja, auch Flashvideos können H.264 sein) die Apple vor kurzem erst freigegeben hatte. WSJ: Apple to Charge a Premium to Put Ads in Mobile Apps

HP and Palm: what happens next
HP announcing that it's going to buy Palm in a $1.2b all-cash transaction certainly took everyone by surprise, but in many ways the deal makes perfect sense. HP is a gigantic player in the tech industry but has no appreciable presence in rapidly-growing mobile space, and Palm -- well, you should know how we feel about Palm by now. Even still, we can't say we were expecting this one, and it looks like most of you weren't either -- HP only got two percent of the vote in our "who should buy Palm" poll, while Engadget (that's us!) got fourteen percent. On their Worldwide Developers Conference 2010 page, Apple has posted a series of icons, one of which looks like it could be the new icon for the rumored iChat video conferencing app that will be used to take advantage of the 4G iPhone's front facing camera.

Up until this point, when Pioneer and iPhone were uttered in the same sentence (or the same Engadget post) it's been in the guise of some sort of integration with an existing product (such as a car stereo or home theater hardware). This time around, however, the consumer electronics company is debuting a line of a/v docks that, truth be told, don't look nearly as boring as most do to these jaded blogsters. All of the kit included herein feature 2.1 speakers, HDMI, component video, and composite video out, and Bluetooth audio streaming. Skyfire 2.0 beta for Android video preview!
We just spent a few minutes playing with the beta version of Skyfire 2.0 for Android that was released today, and we'll cut to the chase: this is easily the best browser we've used on the platform. Clearly we'll need to spend more time with it to make sure it can handle all the typical sites you'd want to visit while you're on the road -- but loading the desktop version of Engadget is always a great barometer for this sort of thing, and this browser rocked it. Rendering is about as reasonably fast as you can expect it to be (on our Snapdragon-powered Nexus One, anyhow), and everything we saw displayed spot-on perfect (save for embedded Flash

Some recent Apple patent applications, made public this week, show continuing interest in evolving how the company's products are controlled. Particularly notable is a concept involving "invisible" buttons, so called because they are flush and built with the same material as their surrounding surface. At least one lucky fellow's 3G iPad arrives a day early
That's right -- you're probably already aware that tomorrow, April 30th at 5PM marks the beginning of retail availability of the 3G version of Apple's iPad, and a lot of those who pre-ordered can expect to receive theirs in the mail tomorrow too. It shouldn't come as a huge surprise, but at least one guy's happy today -- his iPad 3G arrived already! Motorola posts another tiny quarterly profit, phone division not yet pulling its weight
Moto's earnings for the first quarter came out today, and they pretty much echo what the company managed to do in the fourth quarter of 2009 -- pull a small profit thanks to performance from the Home, Enterprise Mobility, and Network groups in the face of an operating loss from the Mobile Devices (read: phones) division. Unfortunately, all of the numbers are just a little bit worse across the board; Motorola didn't have any Droid-style blockbuster launches or major gift-giving holidays to help it along this quarter, and ended up dropping $192 million in the hole compared to $132 million in the quarter prior. Jobs: lack of Flash is about technology, not control
Apple chief Steve Jobs today posted an open letter explaining his company's reasons for not supporting Adobe Flash on the iPad, iPhone and iPod. It looks like ASUS won't be the only Taiwanese manufacturer whipping out new tablets at Computex in early June, and MSI will be joining the party with its Android and Windows 7 touchscreen devices. Datiert auf den 27. April, steht mit Version 1.5.2 nun eine aktualisierte Version des Windows 7-, Windows Vista- und Windows XP-kompatiblen MobileMe Control Panels bei Apple zum Download bereit. Die 2,4MB große Anwendung kümmert sich um die Rechner-Synchronisation mit Apples Online-Dienst und setzt selbstredend die jährlich 79 teure MobileMe Mitgliedschaft (Apple Store-Link) voraus. Ovum hat Entwickler von mobilen Applikationen befragt und kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass diese die Programmierschnittstellen (APIs) von Google lieber benutzen als die von Netzbetreibern. 60 Prozent verwenden Googles serverseitige APIs oder haben das zumindest vor, aber nur 25 Prozent setzen auf die APIs von Mobilfunk-Providern.

Apple kauft Chiphersteller Intrinsity
Im Hause Apple wurde mal wieder ein gekauft! Heute wurde bekannt dass Apple den Chiphersteller Intrinsity für die stolze Summe von 121 Millionen US-Dollar übernommen hat. iAd placements to cost up to $10 million?
Apple is hoping to charge extremely high premiums for participating in its iAd mobile advertising service, according to sources for the Wall Street Journal, which include ad executives. iAd differs from normal advertising on Apple handhelds in that promotions can launch within an app, while still pushing interactive and multimedia content on viewers. Apple is said to be asking nearly $1 million, however, for placing a spot under iAd in 2010.

Dann will uns der Hersteller mit zahlreichen neuen Modellen von der Strategie überzeugen. Neu von Harman Kardon: Go + Play Micro
Harman Kardon hat eine geschrumpfte Version der vor drei Jahren eingeführten und ausgesprochen leistungsfähigen Boombox "Go + Play" vorgestellt. Das neue Modell nennt sich Go + Play Micro und dürfte angesichts der Kombination aus zwei Hochtönern mit jeweils 15 Watt und einem Tieftöner mit 30 Watt ebenfalls ordentlich Druck machen. Harman gibt den Frequenzbereich des Geräts mit 70Hz 20kHz an.
Das Soundsystem kann unterwegs auch netzunabhängig mit Batterien betrieben werden, verlangt hier allerdings nach acht Batterien vom Typ C (Babyzellen). Zertifiziert für iPod und iPhone lassen sich beide Gerätetypen an der Vorderseite andocken und werden im Netzbetrieb auch mit Ladestrom versorgt. AT&T micro SIM designed to help switch to new iPhone
AT&T's micro SIM cards rolling out in advance of tomorrow's 3G-capable iPads may be designed to help users switch to the next iPhone or other future smartphones, those who received the cards early have said today. The cutout actually puts the SIM in a full-size format and leaves the micro SIM size as a subset of that card. As such, a user could use the regular SIM layout and then punch out the micro SIM if they either need an iPad or another device that needs the smaller standard.

Motorola hints at making own tablet
Motorola is interested in getting into tablets, the company said when discussing its most recent results. Co-CEO Sanjay Jha explained that Motorola was "very engaged" with the tablet arena and was "intimately" involved with the category. Die Privatorganisation SOHLA (Space Oriented Higashiosaka Leading Association) verfolgt diesen Plan mit Hochdruck. 10,5 Millionen Dollar soll "Maido-kun", das ist der Roboter, kosten. Entwickelt wird dieser Zweibeiner gemeinsam mit der japanischen Raumfahrtbehöre JAXA. Wir wünschen Glück! HP plant Kauf von Palm für 1,2 Milliarden US-Dollar
Laut einer Pressemitteilung von Branchenriese Hewlett-Packard kommt es in naher Zukunft höchstwahrscheinlich zu einer Übernahme des Smartphone-Herstellers Palm. Sofern die stimmberechtigten Aktionäre und die Wettbewerbshüter zustimmen, wird der Kauf laut HP bis Ende Juni über die Bühne gegangen sein. Für den Kaufpreis von insgesamt 1,2 Milliarden US-Dollar erhält HP das gesamte Know-How, sowie alle Patente und die neue Geräte-Generation mit webOS. Zwar ist sicher, dass Palm CEO Jon Rubenstein weiterhin seine Stelle halten wird, aber ob der Name Palm durch HP ersetzt wird, ist bislang unklar.

LG seen supplying next iPhone's 5-megapixel camera
LG Innotek is responsible for making the next iPhone's camera, a Korean newspaper claimed today. The electronics maker's plant in Gumi has reportedly started making the 5-megapixel cameras this month and will ramp up production to full speed by the second half of the year. Prozessormarkt wächst um 39 Prozent

Apple kauft Siri, will bessere und intuitivere Suche
Filed under: CompaniesApple hat wieder das Scheckbuch rausgeholt. Dieses Mal an der Angel: Siri, eine kleine Firma, die eine gleichnamige Software herstellt. Bei Siri handelt es sich um eine Art digitalen Butler, mit dem gezielt und nach den ganz eigenen Wünschen Suchanfragen starten kann, auch mit Stimme, ohne tippen. Gibt es übrigens im App Store. Siri folgt dabei einem alten DARPA-Projekt namens CALO (Cognitive Assistant that Learns and Organizes). Davon abgesehen, dass eine solche Technologie für jeden Elektronik-Hersteller von Interesse sein dürfte, stellt sich bei Apple natürlich die Frage, ob der Zukauf von Siri ein weiterer Schritt gegen Google ist und eine Ablösung in Sachen Suche jetzt noch schneller vorang

Logitech meldet 29 Prozent Umsatzplus
Logitech hat im vierten Quartal des Geschäftsjahres 2010 (bis 31. März) einen Umsatz von 525 Millionen Dollar erwirtschaftet, was einer Erhöhung um 29 Prozent gegenüber dem Vergleichszeitraum des Vorjahrs (408 Millionen Dollar) entspricht. Der Nettogewinn belief sich auf 24,5 Millionen Dollar, nachdem im Vorjahr noch ein Verlust von 35 Millionen Dollar zu Buche gestanden hatte. Bundesgerichtshof: Googles Bildersuche verletzt das Urheberrecht nicht
Der Erste Zivilsenat des Bundesgerichtshofs entschieden, dass Google nicht wegen Urheberrechtsverletzung in Anspruch genommen werden kann, wenn geschützte Werke in Vorschaubildern der Suchmaschine wiedergegeben werden (Aktenzeichen I ZR 69/08). Geklagt hatte eine bildende Künstlerin, die auf ihrer Internetseite Abbildungen ihrer Kunstwerke eingestellt hatte. Im Februar 2005 wurden bei Eingabe ihres Namens als Suchwort in die Suchmaschine Abbildungen ihrer Kunstwerke als Vorschaubilder angezeigt. Bereits die Vorinstanzen haben die Klage der Klägerin abgewiesen. Nach Ansicht des Berufungsgerichts hat Google zwar das Urheberrecht der Klägerin verletzt, aber einen Unterlassungsanspruchs geltend zu machen sei rechtsmissbräuchlich.

Apple auf der Suche nach zahlungskräftigen iAd-Kunden
Wie das Wall Street Journal unter Berufung auf Werbekreise berichtet, ist Apple gerade intensiv auf der Suche nach Kunden für das neue Werbeprogramm auf dem iPhone, iAd. Gefragt sind Kampagnen mit einem Budget von rund einer Million US-Dollar; wer direkt mit Start des iPhone OS 4 im Sommer dabei sein möchte, muss etwa zehn Millionen US-Dollar einplanen. Damit liegt Apples mutmaßliche Idealvorstellung weit über den marktüblichen Budgets für Werbung auf mobilen Geräten.

HP übernimmt Palm
Gerettet: Der Computer-Gigant Hewlett-Packard übernimmt den traditionsreichen Handheld-Hersteller Palm für 1, 2 Milliarden Dollar. Das gaben die Unternehmen gestern auf einer gemeinsamen Pressekonferenz bekannt. Die derzeitige Palm-Produktpalette soll ebenso erhalten bleiben, wie die Firmenleitung. Palm-CEO Jon Rubinstein war zuvor bei Apple, gilt als „Vater des iPod“ und ist Architekt des Palm-Betriebssystems webOS. Letzteres dürfte der wichtigste Grund für die Übernahme gewesen zu sein.

HP kauft Palm für 1,2 Milliarden US-Dollar
Laut einer Pressemitteilung von Branchenriese Hewlett-Packard kommt es in naher Zukunft höchstwahrscheinlich zu einer Übernahme des Smartphone-Herstellers Palm. Für den Kaufpreis von insgesamt 1,2 Milliarden US-Dollar erhält HP das gesamte Know-How, sowie alle Patente und die neue Geräte-Generation mit webOS. Sofern die stimmberechtigten Aktionäre und die Wettbewerbshüter zustimmen, wird der Kauf laut HP bis Ende Juni über die Bühne gegangen sein. Zwar ist sicher, dass Palm CEO Jon Rubenstein weiterhin seine Stelle halten wird, aber ob der Name Palm durch HP ersetzt wird, ist bislang unklar.

Das "Vodafone 845" ist das erste Android-Smartphone des Carriers, das nicht ganz offensichtlich einem Hersteller zuzuordnen ist, und soll auf der britischen Insel auf den Massenmarkt. HP kauft Palm für 1.2 Milliarden US-Dollar
Der seit längerem angeschlagene PDA-Pionier Palm wird nun von Hewlett-Packard übernommen. HP bezahlt für bei der Übernahme 5.70 US-Dollar pro Aktie, total also 1.2 Milliarden US-Dollar.
HP, die ihrerseits alles andere als erfolgreich im Smartphone-Business Fuss zu fassen versuchen (mit Windows-Mobile-Geräten), haben nun mit der Übernahme von Palm und dessen webOS und den Palm-Smartphones Pre und Pixi Möglichkeiten, in diesem Segment verstärkt aufzutreten. Palm erntete zwar viel Lob für deren webOS, konnte daraus aber keinen kommerziellen Erfolg erzielen. Die Verkäufe der webOS-Geräte sind äusserst schleppend.
Der jetzige HP-Personal-System-Group-Chef Todd Bradley bestätigt, dass man bei HP vor allem an Palms webOS interessiert ist: mit dem webOS soll HP im Smartphones-Segment eine bessere Strategie verfolgen können. Adobe veröffentlicht Flash Gala
Adobe veröffentlichte eine Beta seines neuen Flashplayers für den Mac. Dieser, auf den Namen Gala getaufte, Player unterstützt die von Apple vor einigen Tagen freigegebenen Schnittstellen zur H.264 Hardwarebeschleunigung. Von dieser Beschleunigung profitiert der Flashplayer bei der Wiedergabe von Flashvideos, die in H.264 codiert sind. Nach Angaben von Adobe werde 75% aller im Internet veröffentlichter Videos in Flashplayern abgespielt. Neues iPhone möglicherweise ab 7. Juni im Handel
Gestern hat Apple den Termin für die diesjährige Entwicklerkonferenz WWDC bekanntgegeben. Im Rahmen der vom 7. bis 11. Juni in San Francisco stattfindenen Konferenz wird traditionell die Präsentation der nächsten iPhone-Generation erwartet, bislang kamen die Geräte jedoch nie zeitgleich mit ihrer Vorstellung in den Handel.
In diesem Jahr könnte sich dies ändern: Gerüchteweise plant Apple den Verkaufsstart zeitgleich mit der für 7. Juni erwarteten Präsentation. Als konkreten Hinweis auf einen Verkaufsstart in der ersten Juni-Hälfte könnte man zudem die vom US-Mobilfunkanbieter AT&T verhängte Urlaubssperre für den gesamten Monat Juni deuten. The new app is designed to work with Adobe After Effects, Final Cut Pro, or Final Cut Express, providing users with a set of effects and transitions that can be used to enhance images. 8-bit arcade guitar sounds (and looks) like a little piece of nerd heaven
The hand built, 8-bit "arcade guitar" that you see above is the result of a DIY senior project, and it's a pretty cool accomplishment. There's not a ton of detail about how it was constructed, but we know that it's got an FPGA (field-programmable gate array) for logic and function, strings and a joystick for adjusting the pitch, and it also boasts selectable waves and save banks. Adobe releases Flash for Mac beta with GPU acceleration
Adobe tonight released Gala, its first-ever version of Flash for the Mac with GPU-based hardware acceleration. The release takes advantage of Mac OS X 10.6.3's hardware video decoding API to offload the work of decoding H.264 to the graphics chipset rather than the main processor. The change both eases the strain on the system and helps battery life on notebooks by moving tasks to the more power-efficient GPU.

T-Mobile drops some overage charges in favor of bandwidth throttling
Well, it looks like T-Mobile has some good news and some bad news for customers using its 5GB webConnect data plan. The good news is that the carrier will no longer be charging its $0.20 per megabyte overage fee for any data used beyond the 5GB limit, thereby effectively making the 5GB plan an unlimited plan. The bad news is that in place of an overage charge, it will be implementing bandwidth throttling on any data used on top of the standard 5GB, although it's not saying exactly how much it will slow things down. Customers using T-Mobile's basic 200MB monthly plan aren't left out of the changes either -- while they won't see any bandwidth throttling, they will see their overage charges cut in half from $0.20 to $0.10 per megabyte. Flash Player "Gala" brings hardware decoding support to Mac OS X
Even amidst all their fighting, it appears Apple and Adobe can manage to lay down arms and work together every once in a while: Apple just enabled low-level access to H.264 GPU hardware in Mac OS X 10.6.3, and Adobe's followed up six days later with a new preview version of Flash Player code-named "Gala" that takes advantage of it. Apple retail store sales climb 8%
Filed under: Apple FinancialApple just continues to ignore the bad economic conditions -- sales at Apple Stores have reportedly gone up 8% during the quarter that ended in March. That's a pretty wholesome figure considering no new Apple computers were offered -- before you protest and ask about the iPad and the new MacBooks, don't forget that that's all happened since April started. So there was more traffic in the stores even before there were new shinies to buy.

New Samsung flash chip could speed up smartphone storage
Samsung today unveiled what could be a breakthrough in its flash memory for handhelds. A new multi-chip package contains 512 megabits of PRAM (phase change RAM) and would potentially make writing to memory three times faster than it is with the existing NOR flash often used on mobile devices. The advancement could greatly speed up transferring music, photos and videos to smartphones and MP3 players.

iPhone tethering on AT&T still waiting on better network performance
AT&T's own Ralph de la Vega mentioned as early as November of 2008 that you'd be able to tether your iPhone to your computer and use it as a modem "soon," but here we are some ten months after the initial announcement of official tethering support in the platform and there's no sign of it.
