Morgan Stanley korrigiert Apple-Kursziel nach oben
Die Investmentableitung von Morgan Stanley hat das Kursziel für die Apple-Aktie im unerwartet hohem Maße nach oben korrigiert. Die Börsenspezialisten benennen das Ziel jetzt mit 310 US-Dollar pro Aktie, statt bisher 275 US-Dollar. Außerdem wurde die Einstufung der Aktie auf anders als von vielen Börsenexperten vermutet auf “Overweight” belassen.

Phoenix Wright reaches iPhone, iPod touch
Capcom has launched an iPhone version of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, originally released for Nintendo handhelds like the Game Boy Advance. Players assume the role of Wright, who must defend clients in the courtroom by presenting evidence and cross-examining witnesses. Before this is an investigation phase, where gamers scan crime scenes and talk to bystanders.

NVIDIA: Intel's Moorestown is like an elephant on a diet, iPad set bar too low
Leave it to NVIDIA to kick off the week with some good old Intel trash talking. Let's start with the company's CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, who when asked if the Atom Z6 processor could be competitive, quickly responded with a "not possible." Why? Well, if you ask him, "you could give an elephant a diet but it's still an elephant." He called out the Z6's x86 roots and being behind Tegra in wattage -- he claims it will be years before they can reach the power levels of the ARM based chip.

More pictures of the rumored white iPhone
Filed under: iPhoneMuch like Captain Ahab, Taiwanese Apple fan site tw.apple.pro is in pursuit of something elusive and white. They've posted pictures of what they claim to be the 4G iPhone with white casing on the back and front. Last week, the same site posted side-by-side photos of black and white faceplates supposedly meant for the new iPhone.
I know it's a matter of aesthetics, but I prefer the iPhone with the black faceplace (speaking as a guy with a white 3GS). The photo looks legit, so we're not doubting it, though the home button looks seriously recessed. Perhaps there's a case or layer of plastic on top of it, or mayb

Republican candidate accuses Apple of App Store bias
Apple is blocking a conservative Republican campaign app while allowing other, more "liberal" apps to pass through the App Store, a Republican Congressional candidate claims. Ari David is running against Santa Monica Democrat Henry Waxman, and says that Apple unfairly called his app "defamatory" of Waxman when rejecting it. Contentious points are said to include attacks on Waxman's cap and trade, Medicare and missile spending stances. The Democrat is also accused by David of trying to "strangle family farms with insane Soviet-Style regulation."

AT&T settlement requires device unlocks for all but iPhone
AT&T today reached a settlement in a lawsuit over phone lock-in. As part of a deal to avoid a court verdict, the carrier is required to give unlock codes for the phones of any subscription customer who has had service and been fully paid for at least 90 days. Prepaid users who can prove they bought the phone are also entitled, as are those whose phones are in an AT&T exclusive that lasts 10 months or less.

Pioneer rolls out nav system with iPhone app, Pandora radio
Pioneer today brought out the AVIC-Z120BT, a new flagship navigation head-end unit with a unique Apple tie-in. Those with both the in-car GPS and a new PioneerLink for Pandora iPhone app can both stream Pandora Internet radio over the smartphone's 3G connection and move the service's controls over to the AVIC's 7-inch touchscreen. iPhone rumor du jour: Sprint-powered this summer
Filed under: iPhoneLikely rumor or an AT&T customer's wishful thinking? The rumor that won't die is the end of AT&T's iPhone exclusivity in the US. We've heard the name "Verizon" bandied about, but this time it's Sprint's turn.
According to The Tech Update, a Best Buy employee sent their editors an email that CONFIRMS (in all caps no less, so it must be true) that Sprint will carry the iPhone this summer. He also expects in-store displays to confirm the change within "a week or two." From the email:

BlackBerry Bold 9800 caught sliding through OS 6 on video
When it rains Bold 9800 news, it pours. Just yesterday we were given a glimpse of its virtual keyboard and AT&T branding, and now BlackBerry's upcoming slider can be seen more fleshed out thanks to the power of moving pictures. No narration for this video -- that's either good or bad, depending on your own personal preference -- and the horizontal menu swipe looks like it's missing some animation, but otherwise the phone's looking pretty snappy for a pre-release. WWDC: Steve Jobs hält Keynote am 7. Juni

Apple market cap in striking distance of Microsoft's
A combination of factors has led Apple's market cap to where it may pass Microsoft's in a matter of days or weeks. Thanks to a rush on the stock on Monday, the Mac maker now has a roughly $228 billion market cap where sell-offs have dropped Microsoft's own value has fallen to just over $232 billion. The $4 billion gap is just fraction of the $51 billion that existed between the two in March.

Apple rumored to be halting iPhone 3G shipments
Apple has stopped iPhone 3G shipments to AT&T stores, sources tell the Boy Genius Report. The carrier's outlets are moreover said to be avoiding new orders, suggesting that the iPhone 3G is reaching end-of-life as a first-run product. The device could continue to be available for a short time as a refurbished option, though likely only through AT&T.

Microsoft opens Outlook format to outside developers
Microsoft on Monday acted on its promise to be open by posting official specs for Outlook's Personal Folders (PST) format. The combination of a Data Structure View Tool and a File Format SDK give developers an explanation of how to write and read to the format without having to have Outlook itself installed. Developers previously needed to have the e-mail app installed and could only use existing Windows-focused APIs.

My weekend Windows experience, or why I love Apple so much

I'm really happy that Apple is once again talking about why people will love the Mac when they finally escape from Windows. I had an experience over the last few days that reinforced my love affair with the Mac. Since many of you are also Mac fanatics, I thought you'd love to hear the step-by-step, agonizing situation I endured.
All I wanted to do was install a Wi-Fi remote-controlled webcam. Nothing spectacular. I had looked at a number of webcams on Amazon.com before settling on a rather inexpensive Chinese-made device. According to the vendor, the camera was "Apple Mac and Windows compatible," so I ordered it. It arrived quickly

Movies could be available as a VOD rental before DVD, Blu-ray -- for $20 to $30 each

Wind farm announced for Lake Erie, could produce 1,000 megawatts by 2020
Wind farms have started popping up around the states -- including one off Rehoboth Beach -- and if the Lake Erie Energy Development Corp has its way, twenty megawatts of power will be generated off the coast of Ohio beginning in late 2012. The direct drive wind turbines, each generating four megawatts of power, will be supplied and maintained by General Electric, who designed them especially for off-shore use. Subsequent projects are also in the works by the dynamic duo, with the eventual goal of 1,000 megawatts by 2020 -- by which time the Insane Clown Posse will be eligible for the Rock'N'Roll Hall of Fame and the United States will have its first Juggalo President. Sound ID Bluetooth headset gets own iPhone app
Sound ID has developed an iPhone app that works as a management utility for the company's new 510 Bluetooth headset. The EarPrint interface allows users to adjust a variety of sound characteristics, along with the overall levels. A battery-life indicator shows the remaining charge on the headset, while users can turn off the status LED or press a button to help locate a lost headset.

Nebulous delays hit new international iPad shipments
It is unclear when new international iPad orders will ship, investigation reveals. While the first pre-ordered wave of tablets is set to reach homes and stores by May 28th, Apple's online storefronts in the UK, Italy and Germany now all display vague "June" shipping times. Previously, after launch-day supplies had been exhausted, the company began claiming a June 7th shipping date.

Many Verizon customers suffering from "extreme" interest in iPhone, BMX biking
A report over on Digital Daily this morning reveals something that may not come as much of a surprise -- people on other carriers (in this instance, Verizon) want the iPhone. Recent research out of Morgan Stanley shows there is "significant" demand for Apple's cellular delight -- with about 16.8 percent of Verizon's subscribers having "extreme interest" in the product compared to 7.5 percent in the overall population. What does this mean? It means that, if given the chance (i.e. if the iPhone came to Verizon), about 17 percent of current users would switch. That's a pretty high number, to be sure, and Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty estimates that such a deal could move around 7 or 8 million iPhones annually. So, like, what's the deal, Steve? Intel promises dedicated tablet processors in June
Intel as part of the same conference that unveiled ultra-low voltage 32nm processors also promised it would have processors optimized just for tablets. The company's Client VP Mooly Eden wouldn't detail the chips but said they would make a debut at the Computex show, which starts June 1. It's presumed this would be a variant of the Atom Z600 with energy and speed tuned for hardware larger than phones or MIDs (mobile Internet devices).

Best Buy advertising higher than regular prices as sales?
Could some Best Buy "sales" not really be sales at all? Shocking, we know, but stay with us for a minute. As Consumerist reports, the mega retailer seems to have recently begun advertising some laptops at prices that are actually higher than their regular price, and then taking things one step further by placing "as advertised" signs on the laptops in store -- thereby giving consumers the impression that they're getting a deal. KT pushing for iPad with WiMAX in Korea?
KT is allegedly pushing for iPads with not just 3G but also built-in WiMAX, one brief note claimed today. In addition to pushing for the existing 3G version, the South Korean carrier purportedly wants a version for its 4G network. How to get Hulu running on Android 2.2, for now
Android 2.2 and Flash 10.1. A perfect combination for combination for a little Hulu on the go, right? Not quite, as Hulu has decided to block videos (for legal reasons) when it detects a mobile device, but it turns out there is a surprisingly simple workaround. As Absolutely Android explains, all you have to do is make Hulu think you're using a desktop browser, which can be done simply by entering "about:debug" in the address bar and switching the UAString setting from Android to desktop. Test shows Flash 10.1 bogging down Android 2.2 [video]
Adobe's launch of Flash 10.1 for Android is almost single-handedly responsible for slowing down the experience of the browser and the Android phone themselves, early adopters have discovered in a test. While Flash is installed, the browser on a Nexus One is slower to load content than both an iPhone and an HTC HD2. Android 2.2 is significantly faster without the plugin, but the OS with Flash installed bogs down PocketNow's phone to where it produces a low memory error after visiting only a few websites.

First screenshots back upcoming AutoCAD for Mac
AutoCAD is indeed coming to the Mac, a report says. In April, code comments in ObjectARX 2011 SDK files were noted to be pointing to a Mac port. These have been backed up with new screenshots of an early beta, codenamed Sledgehammer Beta 1. The release is said to be 64-bit native, and already supporting multi-touch gestures via a Magic Mouse.

Intel ships Core i3, i5, i7 chips for ultraportables
Intel rounded out its mobile processors today with its first ULV Core i3, i5 and i7 processors. The chips share the same 32 nanometer process as their full size siblings but consume much less power, at 18W for both the CPU and chipset versus 25W or more for regular chips. They should be as much as a third faster than the ULV Core 2 Duos they replace but can be as much as 15 percent more power-efficient.

Steel shipments mirror decline in US Apple Store builds
Long-term steel shipments match up with a marked slowdown in the construction of US Apple Stores, a report observes. Apple has for some time relied on a Japanese company, Kikukawa Kogyo Co., to supply the steel siding essential to the look of its retail outlets. Documents reveal that Kikukawa shipments peaked in early- to mid-2008, when Apple was preparing to build 21 American stores by the end of the year.

HP Slate isn't rumored to be switching from Windows 7 to webOS
At this point, we don't even know if HP's Slate is still hitting the market -- but one thing we do know is that there's no evidence to suggest that the company will be releasing it with webOS instead of Windows 7. In fact, the two platforms are so wildly different and targeted for such disjoint devices -- never mind the fact that HP and Palm aren't yet united in the legal sense of the word -- that there's virtually no chance that the existing Slate hardware could be effectively used in time for a near-term webOS table

Aussie newspaper selling out ads for 1st iPad edition
Filed under: iPadThe Australian is busy prepping its iPad app, which will deliver issues of the newspaper to subscribers. Thus far, signing up subscribers has gone well; 3 months worth of ads have also been sold, including to big names like IBM and Toyota.
The paper has created an ad package that includes 3 months' worth of category exclusivity on the iPad version, plus spots in the physical paper and online. Developers hope to have video as part of the app at launch, if not very shortly thereafter. One challenge identified by managing editor Grant Holloway has been converting ads from Flash to HTML5.

BeBionic officially unveils its incredible myo-electric bionic hand
Back in February when we first caught wind of BeBionic's myo-electric, very realistic bionic hand, we were quite impressed. The finished product was just unveiled at ISPO World Congress in Leipzig Germany, and it's looking even better than our first glimpse gave away. Apple ranks sixth in global reputation survey
Apple has placed sixth in a global survey of the "most reputable" companies around the world, says a consulting firm, the Reputation Institute. The results are based on a two-part poll. People in 32 countries were initially asked to rate the 600 largest corporations in their homelands; the top businesses for each country progressed to a second poll, where they were joined in competition by the "most visible and valuable" corporations with an above-average local reputation.

Der Termin für die inzwischen legendäre Keynote zum Start der WWWDC 2010 steht fest. Via Pressemitteilung verkündete Apple vor wenigen Stunden, dass Steve Jobs am 7. 17% of Verizon subs would jump ship to CDMA iPhone
As much as 16.8 percent of all Verizon subscribers are "very likely" to switch to an iPhone if it becomes available on the network, Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty found in a study today. She discovered there was "pent up" demand for the phone at the network and that there was more of a call for Apple at Verizon than either AT&T or anywhere else. Just 14.6 percent of AT&T subscribers share the same interest, while 7.5 percent of US cellular customers echo the feeling.

So that Vu Plus we'd tipped for a June 6 release has just gone official, and needless to say, it's not your daddy's Vu. Nokia and Yahoo announce 'worldwide strategic alliance' on email, IM, maps, and more
Carol Bartz and Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CEOs of Yahoo! and Nokia, respectively, are on stage right now announcing a "strategic relationship" between the two companies on some of their core services. Nokia will be using Yahoo to power its Ovi email and IM services, while Yahoo will be using Nokia / NAVTEQ's competencies for its mapping and navigation services. Both companies see it as a way to grow their respective userbases, with Yahoo hoping to grab onto the 9 million Ovi users out there, while Nokia hopes that Yahoo could provide it a bit of a USA mojo. News: iPhone sales pass 700,000 in South Korea
Over 700,000 iPhones have been sold in South Korea since the device went on sale last November, according to a Korea Herald report. An average of 4,000 per day have been sold since the launch, notes KT, the iPhone’s exclusive carrier in South Korea. Video: Flash auf Android 2.2 im Browservergleich
Die Kollegen von Pocket Now haben diesen Browservergleich zwischen iPhone, Nexus One und HTC HD2 in den Äther gebracht. Das Wichtigste wird hierbei sein, dass auf dem Nexus One Froyo läuft und die Flash-Beta 10.1 installiert wurde. Im Test kann man sehen, dass Minigames recht gut funktionieren, auch lassen sich YouTube-Videos relativ gut darstellen, ganz perfekt sieht die Implementierung auf "normalen" Websites hingegen nicht aus. FCC leaves out the "effective competition" description for the wireless industry
Make of this what you will, but when the FCC recently released its report on the state of competition in the wireless industry, it left a few choice words out. Namely, it failed to describe the industry as having "effective competition" for the first time since 2002. The report -- which covers the period of 2008 and part of 2009 -- could signal the government is getting ready to regulate and impost policies to encourage and increase competition in the wireless industry. AT&T's senior vice president of federal regulatory policy, Robert Quinn, said that the move toward more regulation is "unwarranted," while Verizon's Kathleen Grillo said that the "facts" have already shown that there is, in fact, enough competition in the industry. Sort your crashlogs with Hazel

I've been on a bit of a Hazel kick lately. I wrote a short shell script that will sort my Crash Logs.

Add this rule to the folder ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports. The rules above tell Hazel to only run on crash logs older than today, in case you need to do anything with it such as send it to the developer.

Seagate unwraps Momentus XT hybrid HD/SSD
Seagate today validated its teasers by revealing the Momentus XT. The drive is conceived as the best of both worlds for notebooks and includes both a traditional 2.5-inch, 7,200RPM hard drive with a 4GB, SLC-based solid-state drive and 32MB of DDR3 memory as a cache. Special firmware on the drive uses the SSD to optimize performance; it should boot almost as fast as a pure SSD and load about 80 percent faster than a regular 7,200RPM drive.

Following a proposal by Time Warner at the Cable Show that movies reach VOD within 30 days for a premium price of $20 to $30, a leak at the WSJ has Disney, Fox, Paramount, Sony, Universal and Warner willing to sign onboard. But until that comes out, Call of Atlantis is a polished gem-matcher that combines match-3 gameplay with a little bit of story and adventure. GPS 800G watch phone gets the job done (and little else)
Watch phones clearly haven't hit the mainstream yet, though a resurgence of Dick Tracy may very well turn that around. Given that we're probably years, if not centuries, away from that happening, it's up to niche import shops like Alibaba to bring us goods like these. The GPS 800G -- delivered by none other than Shanghai Zhiyuan Vacuum Electric Company, of course -- manages to handle time telling, texting, GPS routing and even emergency calling. Oh, and normal calling as well. Looks as if you'll need to ping the supplier in order to get a lock on pricing, but we can't say with a straight face that it'll be worth your while.

Apple verhilft Google zur AdMob-Übernahme
Nach umfangreichen Untersuchungen hat die Federal Trade Commission (FTC) beschlossen, dass Google den Werbevermarkter AdMob übernehmen darf. Intel Core i5-580M speeding toward a fall release at 2.66GHz?
The Core i5-540M is still quite rare on the ground, but we're hearing word that Intel is already prepping the assembly line for its successor. A new Core i5-580M has been dug up by the sleuths at Notebook Italia, who say it'll run at a default 2.66GHz and ramp up to 3.33GHz via Turbo Boost when needed. Those numbers compare favorably to the 2.53GHz and 3.06GHz of the 540M, and if Intel and company get their timing right,the 580M should be stealing some of that Core i7 thunder just in time for the back to school shopping rush. Kinos hadern mit 3D-Übertragung der Fußball-WM
Obwohl die Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft bis auf wenige Wochen heran gerückt ist, entfernen sich zahlreiche Betreiber von Kinoketten eher von einer Vorführung ausgesuchter Spiele in 3D als dass sie diesem Plan näher kämen. Schuld sei eine schlechte Bildqualität, die von der FIFA zu verantworten sei.

HTC Evo 4G rooted in record time (video)
We're still a good dozen days away from its public release, but the Evo 4G has already been given a rooting makeover. Google dished out Evo handsets to all the lucky (so lucky!) attendees of its blowout I/O 2010 event, and a trio of those visitors rolled up their sleeves and decided to get down and intimate with the phone over the weekend. The product of their labor is at this stage just a few screenshots and a blurry video after the break, but fear not, we're sure details of the hack will be forthcoming promptly.

AutoCAD nach 18 Jahren wieder auf dem Mac
Architekten, Konstrukteure und andere technische Zeichner mit Mac dürfen sich über einen Schritt des Herstellers Autodesk freuen: Nach 18 Jahren konsequenter Abwesenheit arbeitet AutoCAD wieder auf dem Mac. Die Beta-Version trägt den Codenamen "Sledgehammer" und weist noch einige Probleme auf, läuft jedoch bereits nativ auf 64-Bit-Prozessoren und unterstützt Gesten, welche mit Magic Mouse oder Trackpad vollführt werden können. Heck, why not team up and pre-install the app on the ASUS netbooks and laptops that are sold through the online e-trailer? MIT researchers develop the most fabulous gesture control technique yet
When looking for a cheap, reliable way to track gestures, Robert Wang and Jovan Popovic of MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory came upon this notion: why not paint the operator's hands (or better yet, his Lycra gloves) in a manner that will allow the computer to differentiate between different parts of the hand, and differentiate between the hand and the background? Low-key but persistent rumors have surfaced in recent days that suggest the CDMA iPhone may also reach Sprint. Imagine our luck: we just happened to stroll into Nokia's New York flagship store today on 57th between 5th and Madison Avenue, only to discover that it was practically torn down and set to close permanently today, a move that Nokia announced late last year.
