Neue Infos und Fotos zum vermeintlichen iPhone-Prototyp
Die Spekulationen um die nächste iPhone-Generation laufen weiter auf Hochtouren. Die US-Webseite Engadget wähnt sich mit den gestern veröffentlichten Bildern auf der richtigen Fährte und veröffentlicht weitere Informationen diesbezüglich. (Danke Martin)

Round two: Engadget's mystery phone travels into the past

Despite earlier reports that the supposed next-gen iPhone prototype was actually a Japanese knockoff phone, the eagle-eyed team at Engadget hasn't given up the chase. The latest development highlights a second device in some of the blurry spy shots from back in January that turned out to be testing shots of the in-progress iPad, and if you look at it just right it looks quite a bit like the found phone.

Heute früh haben wir diese Bilder hier gepostet, in der Annahme, das sei ein Prototyp des nächsten iPhones, nennen wir es mal 4G. Der Wahnsinn ging natürlich sofort los, am Nachmittag war dann der Konsens, dass dieses Handy mitnichten das neue iPhone sei, sondern einfach ein Klon aus China. iPad-Netzwerkprobleme: DHCP-Implementierung im OS 3.2 fehlerhaft
Ein Gutes hat die verspätete Einführung des iPad außerhalb der USA: Kinderkrankheiten müssen die anderen entdecken. Die Uni Princeton berichtet von einem reproduzierbaren Fehler bei der dynamischen IP-Adressvergabe bei iPads mit dem aktuellen OS 3.2. Taking a stand on iPad stands
Filed under: iPadI love the iPad. I really do. Getting a good iPad stand, however, can be a daunting proposition. There are a lot of varieties, things you can buy, things you can convert. It's pretty clear to me that for a lot of iPad use, a stand is mandatory.
I don't think the iPad is a one-hander. It gets heavy, and eventually I want to put it down. If I lay it flat, it's hard to type on, because the curved back (what were they thinking?) makes it wobble if you touch it. So here's a report on what I have found:the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Jobs promises 'awesome' update to Final Cut Studio
Apple is still backing Final Cut, and the next release of Final Cut Studio will be "awesome," claims CEO Steve Jobs. Continuing a trend of replying to customer e-mails, Jobs is noted to have recently answered a complaint about the video production suite, which called the changes to Final Cut Studio 3 "not stellar." The e-mail also alleges that people laid off from the Final Cut team may have been engineers, who would normally be responsible for advancing the software.

Spiegel und Zeit: Nach Informationen des Hamburger Medienmagazins "new business" werden sowohl die ZEIT als auch der SPIEGEL ihre iPad-Applikationen pünktlich zum Deutschlandstart des iPads veröffentlichen. Beide Print-Publikationen werden auf ePaper-Angebote setzen und dürften, analog zur iKiosk-Applikation der WELT, einen iPad-optimierten PDF-Reader mit integrierter Abo-Funktion bereitstellen. GSM Palm Pre SIM unlock now available, unofficially
If you're itching to put a webOS device on your AT&T account and don't mind having half the now-standard RAM, the developers at jictechnology have released what they're claiming is an official, permanent SIM unlock for the original Palm Pre. Right now the beta only works on the iPhone 3G and does not support carrier unlocking. The devs are quick to point out that in no way is this jailbreak targeted at the average end-user.

Jobs: Kein Blu-Ray für Macs
Blu-Ray, der Nachfolger der DVD, ist inzwischen bei vielen Notebooks vieler Hersteller fest eingebaut, nur im Mac fehlt hier jede Integration. Das Team von Engadget sorgt in den frühen Morgenstunden für Aufsehen in der iPhone Szene.

Holocube Touch, der Hologramm-Player mit Anfassscheibe

Der Hologramm-Player Holocube war uns schon an sich nicht wirklich geheuer: Medial übel unterversorgt und viel zu teuer. Aber wahrscheinlich ist das Teil sowieso nur als Präsentationsgag für Messen und ähnliches gedacht, wozu dann auch das Upgrade zum Holocube Touch passt: Eine Touchscreen-Scheibe vor den Kasten geschraubt und fertig. München: Kabel Deutschland will Internetzugänge auf 100 MBit/s beschleunigen
Nach Angaben eines Mitarbeiters von Kabel Deutschland auf einer Wonhnungseigentümerversammlung in München will der Kabelnetzanbieter in der bayerischen Landeshauptstadt noch im Mai mit dem Vertrieb von Internetzugängen mit Geschwindigkeiten von 60 und 100 MBit/s beginnen. Die maximale DL-Transferrate im Münchner Kabelnetz liegt aktuell bei 32 MBit/s. Die Uploadkapazitäten der neuen Zugänge verbessern sich von derzeit 2 auf 4 und 6 MBit/s.

iPad WLAN Problem ist identifiziert
Kurz nach Erscheinen des iPads in den Apple Stores mehrten sich die Stimmen, die sagten, dass es Probleme mit der Drahtlosverbindung des iPads gibt. Die Abteilung "Netzwerk Systeme" der Princeton University hat nun eine Ursache für die Abbrüche gefunden: Das iPad bzw. das Betriebssystem iPhone OS 3.2 behält DHCP-Leases, obwohl die IP Adresse im WLAN Router schon wieder freigegeben wurde. Bei DHCP, also der dynamischen Zuweisung von IP Adressen, muss das WLAN Gerät sich in gewissen Abständen melden um die zugewiesene IP Adresse zu behalten, das iPad vergisst jedoch im Lock-Screen-Modus diese Meldung. The Store is...DOWN!

Don't you love it when the yellow sticky appears? Never quite knowing whether it's going to be good news (usually on Tuesdays) or nothing much but maintenance (usually on Sundays). TUAW just tingles with anticipation.

Confused pig face mobile phone has paw print buttons, Winnie the Pooh sticker
Oh China, how we love the gadgets you produce. Particularly those of the homegrown variety. We can't say we spotted this pig face mobile during our recent jaunt through the gadget sectors of Hong Kong, but boy, do we wish we had. iPhone 4G: Das erste Photo?

Nein, wir sind uns auch nicht sicher, aber das hier sieht schon mal einiges überzeugender aus als die letzten Bilder die es gab, vor allem, weil auf Twitter schon mal ein ähnliches Bild aufgetaucht ist. Wenn es dem endgültigen Design des iPhone 4G oder HD oder wie immer es heissen mag, allerdings nahe kommt, und nicht nur ein Chinesischer Fake ist, dann hat es einiges an bisherigen iPhone Designkonzepten umgestoßen. Das iPhone wurde anscheinend in einem Café in San Jose in einer iPhone 3G Hülle gefunden. In der Gallerie auch noch das Bild das am 20. Februar via Twitpic gepostet wurde und aus China stammen soll. Thousands of images apparently captured by spying school district, more details revealed
Legal proceedings are getting underway in the case of Philadelphia's Lower Merion School District -- you know, the one accused of remotely turning on webcams on its student's laptops inappropriately? Real, complete next-gen iPhone spotted?
The iPhone HD may have been seen in complete form today through a discovery in San Jose. Lost by its owner and hidden in an iPhone 3G case, the device would be a radical redesign that should include the front video camera that justifies the taller build. It would also have 80GB of maximum storage rather than the more likely 64GB, according to Engadget, and was running a newer version of iPhone OS (likely 4.0) before it stopped booting.

iPhone 4G: is this it?
Is this the iPhone 4G (or iPhone HD)? There's no way to tell for sure, but these photos which made their way into our hands certainly do a convincing job of making us think that's very much the case. Apparently the phone was found on the floor of a San Jose bar inside of an iPhone 3G case. Right now we don't have a ton of info on the device in question, but we can tell you that it apparently has a front facing camera (!), 80GB of storage (weird, right?), and isn't booting at this point (though it was previously, and running an OS that was decidedly new). It's not clear if this is definitely a production model, or just a prototype that found its way into the world, but it's certain

We reported on Mike Daisey's monologue The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs earlier this year. The play was (and is still) scheduled for a run at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre from January 14 to February 27, 2011, but due to popular demand, the monologue will now preview for one night only on April 22 at the Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York. The play is a monologuist piece that "dives into the epic story of a real-life Willy Wonka whose personal obsessions profoundly affect our everyday lives."
