Nintendo's DSi may have just launched, but if you figured your wallet would be safe from buying any other related hardware in the near future, you clearly aren't in tune with the rabid peripheral market. Our best buds over at Joystiq sat down with David Young, the assistant PR manager for Nintendo of America, in order to talk shop and get a glimpse into the DSi's future. 2TB Time Capsule coming soon?
An Engadget reader spotted a Clubmac advertisement (clever publicity stunt?) with a 2TB Time Capsule on it. Apple, of course, just updated the radios on their Time Capsules so that they could broadcast at two different speeds/frequencies at the same time. Would another update at this time make any sense?

News: Illusion Labs demos iPhone games on Multi-touch table
iPhone developer Illusion Labs has posted a video to YouTube showing two of its iPhone games, TouchGrind and Sway, being played on a large multi-touch table. The technology for table was developed by Touchtech in cooperation with Crowd; according to Mac Rumors, the games, which had been slightly modified to accommodate the larger screen, were running on a MacBook Pro with input from the table being sent via a network cable. iTunes 8.1.1 hits the streets with 70mb update.
Like the old Ragu ad, we have to ask, "What's in there?!!?" Usually iTunes point point updates are 10-15 mb each, this one is many times that. Apple lists some of the updates (snappieness™!) but we're sure we'll find out some others. Thankfully, this update doesn't require a restart. Can we get confirmation of speed improvements out there?
iTunes 8.1 is now faster and more responsive. You will enjoy noticeable improvements when working with large libraries, browsing the iTunes Store, preparing to sync with iPod or iPhone, and optimizing photos for syncing.

Would you buy an iPod 3G?
With the release of Skype for iPhone and iPod, the traditional voice connection on the mobile phone is becoming less and less important. What if Apple made an iPod Touch that had a 3G radio (+3 megapixel camera). It would connect to the Internet over 3G using a month to month data-only plan from either Tmobile or AT&T at $40-$60/month. Would you buy a 32GB version for $499?

2TB Time Capsule coming soon?
An Engadget reader spotted a Clubmac advertisement (clever publicity stunt?) with a 2TB Time Capsule on it. Apple, of course, just updated the radios on their Time Capsules so that they could broadcast at two different speeds/frequencies at the same time. Would another update at this time make any sense?
At first, we'd think no, but 2TB drives are just hitting the market. Also, Apple could just add a new superuberextreme version at 2TB and make everyone happy by lowering the prices of the other ones.

Optimal's Joule electric vehicle seats six, on track for launch next year
Optimal Energy's handsomely-named Joule electric vehicle hasn't grabbed all that many headlines since it's debut at the Paris Motor Show last year, but it looks like the company now has a bit more to brag about, with it announcing an influx of funding and an actual launch date (or launch year, at least). Apparently, the first few Joules will roll out in South Africa sometime next year, after which they will head into mass production (or about 50,000 units a year) in 2012, with the majority of those vehicles intended for export outside of South Africa. The car itself will apparently be available in both front-wheel and four-wheel drive models, with each able to sit six with some degree of comfort, and provide a range of somewhere around 250 miles on a single charge. BlackBerry Storm 2 to get Wi-Fi, early launch?
A new leak today hints that RIM is planning a second BlackBerry Storm that would not only address one of the original's key flaws. Reportedly, a "very close" source tells SlashGear that a direct sequel is planned which would add Wi-Fi to the existing 3G. Other improvements are hinted at but haven't been mentioned by the tipster.

Ab sofort steht über die Apple-eigene Software Aktualisierung das 68 MByte große Software Update auf iTunes 8.1.1 zur Verfügung. Laut Apple bietet iTunes 8.1.1 nun auch HD-Filme zum Ausleihen an. Sunseeker II solar-powered plane begins its European tour
It's been years since Solar Flight's Sunseeker aircraft made its way around the States, and now the company's back with a new design (the aptly named Sunseeker II) and a trans-European jaunt. The solar powered aircraft weighs a mere 506 pounds fully loaded, sports a seventeen feet wingspan and measures up to twenty-three feet long. Four lithium polymer batteries provide power to an 8 horsepower motor for takeoff and climbing, and once the plane hits a cruising altitude of around 3,000 feet the solar power kicks in -- with a maximum of 40 mph (or twice that with the batteries). 2TB Time Capsule in the works?
Apple just updated the Airport Extreme and Time Capsule last month, so we don't know if the timing is right for a storage bump, but tipster Brandon just noticed that the ClubMac's promo pic of the TC box features an unmistakable 2TB badge. Makes sense to us -- 500GB is laughably small for a device designed to back up multiple machines, and standard-height 2TB drives are becoming commonplace. Am Donnerstag der vergangenen Woche war es so weit und ATi präsentierte die Radeon HD 4890 der Öffentlichkeit (ComputerBase-Test). iTunes ist in einer aktualisierten Version erschienen: ab sofort kann iTunes 8.1.1 für Mac und Windows geladen werden. 70 MB Download versprechen schnellere Arbeit insbesondere mit großen Bibliotheken, eine Reihe von Bugfixes ist ebenso im Update enthalten.

iTunes 8.1.1 enables HD movie rentals
Apple has posted iTunes 8.1.1, a minor update to its music and video jukebox software. The patch does however enable desktop HD movie rentals, which were previously restricted to owners of the Apple TV. The change may make computers such as the Mac mini more viable as media center systems.

Netgear rolls out 4-bay ReadyNAS NVX

Michael Bay strikes again, pulls out Samsung cellphone at LG promo event
We're not sure what LG expected when it invited Micheal Bay to speak about the company's promotional support of Transfomers 2: Revenge of the Fallen at CTIA, but let's be honest -- they probably should have known dude was going to blow something up. Unfortunately for the gathered LG employees, this time Mike-Mike delivered a figurative explosion, telling the crowd "I don't know anything about mobile phones. Yahoo Music to aggregate iTunes, rivals
Yahoo today unveiled a reworked, public beta version of Yahoo Music that significantly changes the company's philosophy on content. The new version serves as a central hub for third-party music services and will let users buy songs from a number of sources, including Amazon and iTunes. Microsoft's Vexcel Imaging announces 92-megapixel UltraCamLp
Microsoft's Vexcel Imaging division hasn't exactly caused a whole lot of fanfare during its short time in existence, but it has managed to carved out a nice little niche for itself in the field of aerial cameras, and it's just kicked out its latest model in the form of the 92-megapixel UltraCamLp. Apart from that boost in megapixels, this one looks to be mostly identical to the medium-format UltraCamL that it's based on (pictured above), although it does make use of a smaller 6 μm CCD array that makes that increase in image format possible. Proposed bill would create National Cybersecurity Advisor
It hasn't gotten a lot of traction yet, but Senators Jay Rockefeller and Olympia Snow have jointly introduced a bill that would create an Office of the National Cybersecurity Advisor, a new White House position designed to beef up the nation's information security policies. The new office goes hand-in-hand with the Cybersecurity Act of 2009, another proposed bill that would create an entire panel of security experts brought in from the government, private sector, and universities. All together, the two pieces of legislation would require that government networks and software meet a set of security standards and vulnerability tests -- and, more controversially, that private networks deemed "critical infrastructure" by the President meet these standards as well.

Accounted 2.0 expands reports, account support
Oranged has released a major update to Accounted, its financial software aimed at businesses; the app is claimed to calculate a company's books without requiring any accounting knowledge. Roony the prototype moon bot builds houses badly, is brothers with Jason Schwartzman
If this is all it takes to build a moon settlement then sign us up, we're completely qualified. To symbolize "humanity's first steps to inhabit space," some students from Malardalens University in Sweden have teamed up with artist Mikael Genberg to build a robot that can drop a small red cottage on the moon. The early prototype, dubbed Roony, is terrifying in its house-building flippancy (there's video of it after the break). Quadro- und Geforce-Treiber mit Beta-Funktionen

When we first caught wind of the Pogoplug -- a small box that essentially lets you turn any USB hard drive (and drives only) into a network device -- we were pretty darn excited. Having a house full of disparate storage boxes and no easy way to connect to them made the prospect of the 'plug seem very enticing. Safari 4 beta still not playing nice with Hotmail
Since Apple released Safari 4 beta to bleeding-edge users, many have reported not being able to properly access functions of Hotmail, Microsoft's flagship online e-mail service. Reported issues include not being able to log in to accounts, not being able to access messages, and not being able to manipulate messages (deleting, moving, and so on). Most signs point to a programming conflict between Apple's strict adherence to the most current WebKit standards and Hotmail's lack of including Safari 4 beta as a "legitimate" browser.

More iPhone 3.0 fun..Tethering, A2DP, Skype with Bluetooth headsets
We're getting in some new reports of the functionality of the new iPhone 3.0 operating system. The latest update has improved the performance and reliability of Apple's new features. Internet tethering (screenshot of iPhone when tethering shown below) has become more reliable over USB and some people have even had some luck over Bluetooth.
The fun doesn't stop there. Our tipsters got the A2DP Bluetooth working which, unlike the older, crappier Bluetooth, works across all applications. iPod in Stereo? Yep. Pandora Radio? Affirmative. How about Skype? Yes! And it sounds great.
In fact, just to push this thing to the limit, they were able to do Skype on a stereo Bluetooth headset while on 3G, while tethered to a laptop!

Could/Would Apple swoop in and pick up Sun?
Just a thought here – we realize this is pretty much not going to happen – but would there be any interest at all in Sun from Apple? Bill Joy said the two companies almost merged three times in the 90s (when Jobs wasn't running the show). IBM just walked away from the table on a $7 billion dollar buyout opportunity. They wouldn't take the $9.40 a share offer.
Apple has a few bucks laying around.
We know Apple never buys big companies and prefers to develop from the inside rather than purchasing its technology knowledge. But its hard not to speculate that there might be some interest in a $7 billion Sun Microsyst

Kartellamt verhindert Fusion der Kabelnetzbetreiber
Das Bundeskartellamt hat die Fusionspläne der drei großen Kabelnetzbetreiber Kabel Deutschland, Kabel BW und Unitymedia durchkreuzt. Barclays ups Apple figures on iPhone, mystery device
Ben Reitzes, an analyst with Barclays Capital, has raised the firm's price target for Apple stock from $113 to $143. Sicherheitslücke bei T-Online ermöglicht Auslesen von Kundendaten
Eine bislang unbekannte Sicherheitslücke im System von T-Online will die Resisto IT ausfindig gemacht haben. Resisto ist es nach eigenen Angaben durch das Ausnutzen einer Sicherheitslücke gelungen, die gesamte Liste der Haupt-E-Mail-Adressen der T-Online-Kunden auszulesen. We didn't think much of Motorola's MCU3E (MCUBE) wireless transcoder when it was launched as a prototype late last year, but obviously Moto's got dreams of seeing this in homes around the world. OpenMoko FreeRunner canceled, staff slashed
We've always had a soft spot for the OpenMoko FreeRunner open-source phone, but it looks like quirky and charming weren't enough -- the company's canceled the handset and laid off 50 percent of its staff in an effort to stay afloat. HTC profit drops 30% on mystery phone delay
HTC warned on Monday that its finances had been significantly hurt in the first quarter of 2009, which ended in March. The company said its profit dropped 30 percent year-over-year from the equivalent of $210 million in early 2008 to $148 million this year. LG puts out W53 LCD with auto brightness
LG today bolstered its LCD line with a new set of computer displays built both for eco-friendliness and movie-watching. The W53 SMART line replaces the W52 and now has an automatic brightness mode that will power down the backlight in a dark environment or turn it up in daylight. HP darf weiterhin neue Rechner mit alter Windows-Version anbieten
Offiziell brüstet sich Microsoft damit, alle neuen Windows-Rechner würden mit vorinstalliertem Vista verkauft. So weit ist das zwar richtig, aber es ist nur die halbe Wahrheit. Zwar werden sehr viele PCs mit einer Vista-Vorinstallation verkauft, aber es liegt auch eine Restore-DVD mit dabei, die eine XP-Version auf den Rechner bringt. Hardware-Hersteller HP hat es soeben geschafft, Microsoft das Zugeständnis abzuringen, von dieser Option bis zum 30. April 2010 Gebrauch machen zu dürfen, so AppleInsider. Unfreiwilliger Härtetest für iPod nano
Verbeult, zerkratzt und ein defektes Display - aber funktioniert noch. Justin Ochs hat seinen iPod nano beim Aussteigen aus dem Auto verloren. Das gut Stück lag danach nicht nur 12 Stunden im schmelzenden Schnee, sondern wurde zu guter Letzt noch von einem Pickup überrollt - abgesehen von einem Displaydefekt funktioniert der iPod dennoch weiterhin einwandfrei. Microsoft bewertet Entwicklung von Windows auf Netbooks positiv
Microsoft-Mitarbeiter Brandon LeBlanc hat im Windows-Blog eine positive Bilanz der Entwicklung von Windows XP auf Netbooks gezogen. Der Marktanteil von verkauften Netbooks mit Windows XP sei phänomenal. In den USA sei er von 10 Prozent in der ersten Jahreshälfte 2008 bis auf 96 Prozent im Februar 2009 gestiegen. Dies hätten Zahlen des Marktforschungsinstituts NPD Group ergeben. Dabei definiert Microsoft allerdings Netbooks exklusiv als Geräte mit einem 10,2-Zoll-Display, die weniger als 500 Dollar kosten.

Kein Skype auf kanadischen iPhones
Berichteten wir vor Kurzem noch über die Befürchtungen der Skype-Anbieter, T-Mobile werde in Deutschland die Nutzung der Internet-Telefonie auf dem iPhone vollständig unterbinden, so wurde nun bekannt, dass das App in Kanada zunächst gar nicht erst angeboten werden kann. Der Grund sei ein “vage Beschränkung in einer kanadischen Lizenz für Mobilfunkstandards“, so Chaim Haas, ein Skype-Sprecher. Die Problematik stehe aber weder mit Apple als Unternehmen in Verbindung, noch sei sie speziell an Skype gebunden.

Sun-Übernahme geplatzt: IBM zieht Kaufangebot zurück
Mehr als 7 Milliarden US-Dollar kann und will das IT-Unternehmen IBM für die seit Anfang des Jahres geplante Übernahme von Sun Microsystems wohl nicht hinblättern. Laut einem Bericht der New York Times hat IBM die Kaufofferte bereits zurückgezogen, offensichtlich konnte man sich nicht auf einen Kaufpreis einigen. Bauanleitung: MacBook mit internem zweitem LCD
Den leuchtenden Apfel als Zweitdisplay in der Hülle eines MacBook gibt es nun auch zum Nachbauen. Eddie Zarick hat diese etwas andere Modifikation an einem MacBook sowie einem MSI Wind durchgeführt. Der zweite Bildschirm ist dabei als vollwertiges Display ansprechbar, auch ein externes Display kann weiterhin angesteuert werden.

Nikon readies something for April 14th launch
Word on the prismatic, hinged mirror streets of camera-land suggest that NIkon is preparing to launch "new products" for Spring. Rightful speculation made after a press invite was purportedly sent to a variety of photog publications announcing an April 14th launch event. Expectations vary widely as to what will be announced including a new entry-level D60-followup with 720p video on up to a D400 with 16 megapixel Sony CMOS. We even have the dubious photo above showing a Nikon with articulating display taken by a jockey riding a humor forum who claims to have been traveling "somewhere in Eastern Europe and stumbled across a commercial shoot for Nikon." Sure, that's believable. Fortunately, we're just over a week away from knowing for sure.

Nokia N97 hits FCC with glorious photography
We're not sure if these are false color images, weird lighting, a Finnish sense of humor, or an actual production color scheme for the N97, but regardless, we like it. Nay, love it. Ship it, Nokia. Anyhow, the FCC has published full submitted details of one of the non-North American varieties of Nokia's halo device for the year, putting GSM / EDGE 850 / 1900 and WCDMA band II (1900MHz, if you're curious) through their paces along with the FM transmitter, Bluetooth, and WiFi. We've also got a manual to peruse -- unfortunately, details on the Ovi Store are missing, but at least we can brush up on our phone

Albatron beendet Nvidia-Exklusivität
Nachdem in der Vergangenheit Grafikkartenproduzenten wie Gainward oder XFX die exklusive Partnerschaft zu Nvidia aufgegeben haben, folgt mit Albatron nun ein weiterer Hersteller, der zukünftig auch Karten mit ATI-GPU im Portfolio führt.

Google soll Interesse an Twitter haben
Der Mikro-Blogging-Dienst Twitter hat im vergangenen Jahr, insbesondere durch den US-Präsidentschaftswahlkampf, enorm an Popularität gewonnen. Diese scheint nun Google auf den Plan gerufen zu haben, Spekulationen zufolge soll der Internetkonzern Interesse an einer Übernahme haben.

Intel Expects to Cut CPU Power Consumption 10-fold
Intel research Labs unveiled a new transistor with a high potential for future CPU, as it requires only 10% of the power currently used to make them working. To reach such limit, scientists have been using new materials while combining both N-channel (current is produced by the move of a electronic gap) and P-channel (the current is produced by an electron) transistors. This is of course just the beginning of those new technologies, and for sure it holds quite a lot of promises, however, one will have to wait for couple of years to see them applied in our computers, and when applied in mass production, figures have a tendency to dramatically decrease. Nevertheless, it for sure would help Intel to preserve Moore's law for the coming years.

Asus Unveils its Nehalem-based Server
Asus keeps surfing on its EEE-PC success, even though the poor performance of those models have pushed Asus and other manufacturers to offer boosted netbook models. To demonstrate that Asus can also release Pro oriented products, the company unveiled its 1U Nehalem-based server, the RS700-E6/R.
As shown on this photo, the design is clean, quite similar to Apple's knowledge in this field, not a single cables visible. Regarding specifications, as it is powered by a Nehalem, there are not a lot of surprises:
2 Xeon Nehalem sporting 8 cores each.
12 RAM memory slots, 6 for each CPU.
2 independent and redundant PSU.
8 bays for 2.5" HD, 4 of them only hot-swappable.
The lat point is the most interesting one. so

Did the Semi-Conductor Industry Hit the Bottom of the Curve?
The semi-conductor industry has been massively affected by the on-going economical slow-down, as consumes and corporate decided to post-pone their computer hardware purchase/exchange/upgrade plans. The last figures revealed by the Semiconductor Industry Association indicates that over the last 12 months, the market dropped by 30%, the most impressive decrease ever recorded. The SIA expects to have hit the bottom of the cyclic curve. It might be true as the first element of the production chain, in other words founders, such as TSMC and UMC, have already received new orders. It also makes sense as companies have first tried to empty their stocks. we should see new products in the coming months, however, it is unclear if their price will fit with the current economic environment, for sure the financial results of Apple for the past quarter to be released on April 22nd will be an interesting information.

iPhone: Carriers Does Not Like Skype for iPhone
T-Mobile in Germany, as well as Roger in Canada, have already announced that they might prevent their local users to use Skype on iPhone or iPod Touch for calling over Wi-Fi. Despite the fact that Apple locked the application to prevent any usage over 3G network, VoIP applications are a real danger for most carriers. Indeed, any calling time over the subscription-included pre-paid period is a jackpot for carrier and can quickly become expensive for users. So, one can easily understand that users at home might save a lot of their subscription-included time by calling via VoIP (Skype or any forthcoming applications).while it seems clear that in Germany and in Canada, carriers distributing the iPhone are against this application, in other European countries, most carriers are surprisingly silent no reactions from Orange, SFR, O2, etc

Nächstes iPhone mit schnellerem, sparsameren WiFi
WiFi gehört neben den Ortungsdiensten zu den Stromfressern im iPhone. Es gibt nun Hinweise, dass beim nächsten iPhone der Stromverbrauch von drahtlosen Internetverbindungen etwas gedrosselt werden könnte. In Dateien in der Entwickler-Beta vom iPhone OS 3.0 finden sich Hinweise auf den Chip BCM4329, der für WiFi und Bluetooth zuständig ist und 802.11n unterstützt.

NYT: T-Mobile to release Android-powered home phone, tablet PC next year
According to documents obtained by the New York Times, T-Mobile's set to release a home phone early next year, and a tablet PC after that, both of which are said to be powered by Android. We're a bit light on details, but we do know the phone itself has a docking station and will come with another device for synchronization. That device's supposed resemble a small, keyboard-less laptop with a 7-inch touchscreen and could check the mail and manage data for devices across the house. Here's hoping T-Mo's been taking notes watching its AT&T HomeManager / Verizon Hub predecessors.

Keepin' it real fake, part CXCVI: NOKLA 5800 XpressMusic is actually quite convincing on video
NOKLA strikes again! The Hong Kong-based doppelganger has concocted its own version of the 5800 XpressMusic, and it looks like they've spared no expense in copying the Finnish phonemaker's handiwork, from the apparent use of Symbian S60 5th Edition to the wavy line-infused screen film. Sidekick 2009 coming May 13th to T-Mobile, Snap and Touch Pro2 in July?
The gang at TmoNews have it from a "trusted source" what's purported to be a list of tentative release dates for nearly a dozen T-Mobile phones. At the top on that list is the Sidekick 2009 (a.k.a. "Blade") for May 13th, followed by heavy hitters HTC Snap and HTC Rhodium (Touch Pro2) for July 1st / 22nd, respectively. Rounding out the list is a pre-paid Nokia 1661 for April 29th, a mysterious Sony Ericsson CS8 for June 24th, six Samsung T-series phones all debuting between May 6th and August 19th, and a big, fat "TBD" for the HTC Magic

More iPhone 3.0 fun..Tethering, A2DP, Skype with Bluetooth headsets
We're getting in some new reports of the functionlity of the new iPhone 3.0 operating system. The latest update has improved the performance and reliability of Apple's new features. Internet tethering (screenshot of iPhone when tethering shown below) has become more reliable over USB and some people have even had some luck over Bluetooth.
The fun doesn't stop there. Our tipsters got the A2DP Bluetooth working, which onlike the old, crappier Bluetooth, works across all application. iPod in Stereo? Yep. Pandora Radio? Affirmative. How about Skype? Yes! And it sounds great.
In fact, just to push this thing to the limit, they were able to do Skype on a stereo Bluetooth headset while on 3G, while tethered to a laptop! Screenies be

Microsoft Software-plus-Services marketing vid teases Windows Mobile 7?
Our initial reaction to the all-too-brief shots of mobile devices in this slick, high-gloss marketing video provided by Microsoft was that the company had thrown together some totally meaningless mockups to help get their point across about bridging the communication gap across diverse platforms and technologies. A closer look, though, revealed something interesting (low-key Rickroll notwithstanding): the captures show off a UI layout suspiciously similar to some of the supposedly leaked screenshots of WinMo 7 we saw a couple weeks back. Is this all indicative of Redmond's direction for its next-gen mobile platform, a fluke, or somewhere in between?
