Dell Adamo battery not user-replaceable, says bearer of harsh truths
Possibly not surprising, but certainly to be filed under "subtely disappointing" is the news that has just recently been confirmed: Adamo's battery is not able to be replaced by the user. No fun, you say? Well, it is, of course, replaceable, should the need arise, it just has to be sent into Dell for the procedure, though we don't yet know how much the company is going to charge for all that. Guess if you have to get a new juice pack for your laptop your "lifestyle" will have to be temporarily put on hold, huh?

Vuze now converts and transfers to iTunes, PS3, Xbox
Vuze has released an update to its BitTorrent client and media player. Version 4.2 can now be used to automatically convert videos to formats required for the iPhone, iPods, Apple TV, PS3 and Xbox 360. iTunes, PS3 and Xbox 360 are each auto-detected, showing up under a list of devices in a new sidebar. VUZE adds trascoding support for iPod, iPhone and AppleTV
We've been using Vuze and it's former brand Azureus since we fist started bit torrenting Linux ISO's and other totally legal stuff. While a bit bloated, it has always been the most feature packed, cross platform Bittorrent client available. When they changed their brand to VUZE, they added a HD video distribution network. Now, in version 4.2, they've added client side video transcoding to all of your favorite devices. Along with iPods, iPhones and AppleTV's Vuze now supports Playstation and XBox.
It is a reatively easy process to set up but slow unless you have a some serious MP4 horsepower. It is all automated so you won't have to be there when your totally legal stuff is moved to AppleTV/iPod/iPhone compatible formats

Espresso 1.0 attempts to unify hard-coding
MacRabbit has introduced the first version of Espresso, an editing tool for web developers. The app is specifically intended for manual coding, and organizes the editing of HTML, XML, CSS, PHP and JavaScript into a single interface. 6GB iPhone plans disappearing from Rogers accounts?

R2D2 casemod is affordable, convincing evidence of our continued love for old sci-fi epic
We'll let you in on a little secret: we find the constant stream of Star Wars-inspired you-name-it to be a little, shall we say played? That said, this R2D2 casemod is totally, impressively rad. First prognosis from those in the know : you probably do not have to be. That's great news for most of us who depend on the error reporting in Disk Utility to determine if our systems are running the way they should be. Retrospect 8 ships for Mac...asks for another chance
Retrospect 8 is now shipping for Mac. It has been forever and a day (5 years!) since version 6 first shipped. Version 7 was PC only. Since then, the product has been getting older, less reliable and, to many, unusable. I did a roundup of backup solutions almost two years ago for the Macintosh platform. Unfortunately, not much has changed since then. Mac shops don't have a great answer to their backup needs.
Today, I am using Time Machine for day to day backups which works acceptably for most things (I turn off everything but my Docs folder). For cloning, I use Carbon Copy Cloner which was just updated recently to vers. 2.2 and works great.

Luxology preps COLLADA plug-in for modo 401
Developer Luxology has announced a upcoming COLLADA plug-in for its imminent 3D rendering suite, modo 401. COLLADA is an XML scheme, used to ensure that art output created with one program can be edited by another, where normally filetypes would be incompatible. New high-end ARM processors could be powering cellphones by year end
ARM has been talking up its Mali-200 and Mali-400 processors for a little while now, but according to the company's graphics product manager, Remi Pedersen, they're now finally on track to land in some actual products, and the first cellphones using 'em could show up as soon as winter 2009. While Pedersen unfortunately didn't have anything to say about those phones themselves, he did make some pretty bold claims about the processors, which are able to run OpenGL ES 2.0 and can supposedly pump out 16 million triangles per second and 275 million pixels per second. Those numbers apparently apply to both the Mali-200 and Mali-400, although the later is multicore scalable (up to quad-core at 300MHz), and even able to produce 1080p resolutions. Auch wenn die Berichte angeblich "100 % bestätigt" sind, wie bei jedem Gerüchte sollten die Angaben mit der notwendigen Portion Misstrauen betrachtet werden. Angeblich sei von AT&T zu erfahren gewesen sein, dass Apple tatsächlich Mitte Juni ein neues iPhone auf den Markt bringen will. Apple discontinues Bluetooth headset, Stereo A2DP headset to follow?
OK, file this into the "would be nice to have" or "making lemonade out of lemons" but Apple, this weekend, discontinued its mildly popular Bluetooth headset. Bad news? Maybe not.

Ericsson reaffirms commitment to Sony Ericsson joint venture
Given the current state of Sony Ericsson, we completely understand the re-heating of rumors regarding a nasty breakup. AT&T claiming new, faster iPhone in mid-June?
AT&T has reportedly made statements supporting a new, faster iPhone in the June timeframe. Struktable multitouch table is as fun to use as it is to say
Sure, you can make a multi-touch table out of just about anything these days, but it still always pretty impressive when a project comes together as nicely as this so-called Struktable multi-touch surface built by the folks at Struk Design Studio. Like some other rigs, this one relies on the FTIR (or frustrated total internal reflection) effect, which makes use of some infrared LEDs placed around the edge of the display, and a mirror and a short-throw projector to actually display the image on the surface.

OLG Hamburg hebt Urteil zur Forenhaftung auf
Forenbetreiber sind nun doch nicht verpflichtet, auf Diskussionsplattformen veröffentlichte Inhalte vorab zu prüfen. Allerdings müssen sie gemeldete Rechtsverletzungen untersuchen und entsprechende Beiträge unverzüglich entfernen. Mit seiner jetzt veröffentlichten Entscheidung vom 4. Februar 2009 (Az. 5 U 180/08) hob das Hanseatische Oberlandesgericht ein Urteil des Landgerichts Hamburg auf, laut dem Anbieter für jeden auf ihrer Plattform erschienenen Beitrag haften.

Apple hat die Produktion des Bluetooth-Headsets (Affiliate) offenbar eingestellt. Noch kann man es im Store kaufen, in den Inventarlisten der Stores steht das Headset allerdings unter “eingestellt”. Möglicherweise ein weiterer Hinweis darauf, dass mit der iPhone 3.0-Firmware volle Bluetooth-Funktionalität Einzug hält.

We've seen in-wheel motors in the past, but implementing the technology is not without its share of challenges. On one hand, it's difficult to coordinate motors that have no mechanical connection to each other, while on the other hand electric motors are designed to spin much faster than the wheels, in order to generate the desired power -- adding complexity while decreasing efficiency. Monster "HDMI Difference" scam still kickin' in Fry's Electronics
Man, this is just sad. Over a year after the internet was set ablaze with rage after seeing Monster's HDMI cable scam, we've just been notified that the tactic is still being used in at least one Fry's Electronics store. For those unaware, the rig works as such: two TVs are set beside each other along with a sign that says "See the Monster HDMI Difference." Trouble is, the "Monster set" (on the right) is connected to its source via an HDMI cable, while the "non-Monster set" (on the left) is connected via composite cable. Apple has stopped selling its official Bluetooth headset for the iPhone, Apple Store listings reveal. Though the product's page exists, and it can still be added to online shopping carts, Apple has newly marked the device as "discontinued." OK, file this into the "would be nice to have" or "making lemonade out of lemons" but Apple today discontinued its mildly popular Bluetooth headset. Bad news? Maybe not.
We also know that the new iPhone version 3.0 software includes support for A2DP stereo Bluetooth. So do current models of iPod touch and iPhone. What better way for Apple to tout its new functionality than to introduce a "world's XXXXXest" stereo Bluetooth headset? June-Julyish?

3D scanner made entirely from Legos
We've seen some pretty kick-ass Lego creations over the years, and this one is no exception -- if anything, it gets bonus points for not only being a pretty sweet hack, but for enabling sweeter, more complex, hacks in the future. Call it coincidence or call it fate, but nary a month after Microsoft filed a patent lawsuit against TomTom over Linux-based GPS systems, TomTom has just been taken into the warm, loving arms of the Open Invention Network. iTunes Store problems affect developers
The troubles surrounding Apple's iTunes Store are affecting iPhone application developers. Two main issues are dominating discussions on developer boards: the app-update notification system for iTunes and iPhone/iPod Touch is falsely notifying users to update apps that are current, and the sort function for "Release Date" is not adding the newest apps. Developers are also finding that their new, accepted apps are not appearing in the App Store at all.

Commercial Times: Palm "smartphones" delayed to end of year
Here's a murky report flushed from the bowels of rumor-dom that's sure to get investors into a tizzy as information and misinformation spreads. Backup: CopyTrans kopiert iPods und iPhone zurück
Bereits seit fünf Jahren vereinfacht CopyTrans das Zurückspielen von Musik und anderen iPod-Inhalten in die iTunes-Mediathek. Bericht: Betrüger verdienen an falscher Antivirensoftware
Wie das Sicherheitsunternehmen Finjan berichtet, hat sich falsche Antivirensoftware zu einem lukrativen Geschäftsmodell für Online-Betrüger entwickelt. Die Untersuchung des Datenverkehres eines ukrainischen Servers ergab, dass dieser innerhalb von 16 Tagen rund 1,8 Millionen eindeutige Besucher an eine Website für falsche Sicherheitssoftware weiterleitete. Die Betreiber des Servers verdienten nach Schätzungen der Sicherheitsexperten 9,6 US-Cent pro erfolgreicher Weiterleitung und damit täglich etwa 10.800 Dollar.

Apple hat an diesem Wochenende einen weiteren Entwicklungs-Build des kommenden Leopard-Updates 10.5.7 an die Entwickler verteilt. Der Build mit der Nummer 9J34 bringt Verbesserungen in Mail und der Vorlese-Funktion sowie verschiedene andere Bugfixes und Verbesserungen zur bereits über 80 Punkte langen Liste der Verbesserungen durch dieses Update. Dell's Studio XPS laptop might be going red
The so far black-only Studio XPS laptop might soon be getting an injection of color. A "Bordeaux" (red) version of the portable was spotted at Dell's design labs, and the company told CNET an official release is currently under consideration. Microsoft plant Konkurrenz zu Google Street View
Für all diejenigen, die vergeblich jeden Tag nackt auf die Straße gerannt sind, um zufällig vom Google-Wagen für Street View abgelichtet zu werden, gibt es eine gute Nachricht: Auch Microsoft will Städte von unten fotografieren. Chanel: iPod in der Klarsicht-Handtasche
Die Dame auf dem Bild rechts schleppt keine Blisterverpackung mit sich herum, sondern schmückt sich mit dem auf der Paris Fashion Week vorgestellten Chanel Perspex Briefcase (auch wenn sich rein optisch kaum ein Unterschied zwischen beidem feststellen lässt).
Gut jedenfalls für Straßenräuber: bislang war die Enttäuschung immer groß, wenn sich in der geklauten Handtasche ein alter iPod mit Monochromdisplay fand, jetzt kann man erst mal nachsehen, ob der Inhalt der Handtasche den Erwartungen entspricht.

Okay, there's some amount of originality here, but enough to justify a Red Dot design award?
