Apple looks to have shrunk their wired keyboards. Surely you won't miss the Number Pad and such? Right, get one of the old ones while they last. Either one is currently available. (and chill out, Apple will probably offer both for a long time - there are two options!)

Vallywag says Apple is going to do layoffs
We don't put much stock in Valleywag. When is the last time they were right on an Apple story? Well, anyway, they say that Apple is going to announce layoffs (mostly to Sales staff) today:
One tipster tells us there are "major layoffs" at Apple. Another writes that "all sales teams have mandatory meetings today" and that "HR booked conference rooms in Cupertino." Is Apple cutting salespeople loose? If so, then Apple's latest product announcements seem like a conveniently timed distraction. ASUS announces stylish U/UX series ultra-thin laptops
Looking to add some allure to its portable lineup -- as if a model named Lamborghini wasn't enough -- ASUS has announced the U and UX series of ultra-thin laptops, expected to launch sometime in Q2. Both feature an illuminated chiclet keyboard and auto-adjusting LED backlit display. The U series also features a 15.6-inch glossy LCD and a touchpad that uses progressively fading lights to follow your fingertips. Under the hood, there's an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, NVIDIA GeForce G105M, up to 500GB HDD, and Altec Lansing speakers with SRS true surround sound. Apple morning roundup, few Mac products left unscathed
Apple let loose a flurry of minor product revisions this AM, bumping internals on the Mac mini, iMac, Mac Pro and MacBook Pro -- even the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule networking products got spruced up, while the Apple Keyboard got its numpad lopped off. Smartphones 23% of US market; driven by iPhone
Nearly one quarter of US phones are smartphones and are driven by trends the iPhone put in place, findings from the NPD Group show. NI launches Maschine beat production studio
Native Instruments has released Maschine, a new hardware and software package meant for beat production. The suite enables automatic recording and editing of internal or external audio, and includes functions for repeating, slicing or auto-mapping beats. JVC's new Everio X GZ-X900 does 1080p video, 9 megapixel stills, 600 fps slow motion
JVC's new "Everio X" GZ-X900 camcorder is just what we like in a flagship device: incredible style, crazy specs, and awesome slow motion video of us slapping people. The GZ-X900 reworks the Everio line into a new brick-like form factor that's bordering on the shape of camcorders of yore, but JVC puts a nice twist to it, and the camera is obviously very compact. JVC used some "premium materials" in the construction and it really shows, but what's more exciting is the high-end 1080p resolution, with 1000 "TV lines" to sample from (it's not upscaling from a completely bum source like many compact camcorders). MobileMe, Time Capsule gain interconnectivity
In tandem with the release of the new dual-band Time Capsule, Apple has expanded the functionality of MobileMe, which can now be used to remotely access files held on a Capsule. Drives must be registered through a user's MobileMe account, but then appear in a remote Mac's Finder sidebar, allowing file transfer. Core i7-packin' Clevo D900F gaming laptop hands-off
We're not sure if Clevo has had to deal with trade show thievery in the past, but its Core i7-equipped D900F was locked down tight at CeBIT. Nevertheless, we stopped by -- camera in hand -- to have a look, and what we saw was something we'd never, ever want on our laps for more than 120 seconds. We also saw a ridiculously potent LAN party rig, so we suppose there's some truth to that "eye of the beholder" thing our parents keep mentioning. Apple updates AirPort Client, Utility
Following the launch of new AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule devices, Apple has released updates to the AirPort Client and AirPort Utility. The AirPort Client Update 2009-001 addresses issues with roaming and network selection in dual-band environments. Toshiba's TG01 brings glück to Germany with O2 exclusivity
Toshiba's TG01 and its surprisingly awesome color bar-centric UI will soon be saying "guten tag" to its German friends. O2's announced that it'll be the exclusive carrier for the phone in Deutschland and will launch it sometime this summer, with mum being the word currently on price. Kaufman positive on new Macs, Safari 4

Hands-on with latest FujiFilm FinePix digital cameras
Apparently FujiFilm's truckload of new cameras got redirected from Las Vegas to Hannover, but whatever the case, we'll take whatever hands-on we can get. Over in a small corner at CeBIT, FujiFilm was on hand with its recently-shipping F200EXR and the bulk of its pre-PMA crew. Complementing Apple's new desktops is a new wired keyboard option. Simply called the Apple Keyboard, the device is a cheaper alternative to the existing wired model; gone is the numeric keypad, which does however provide the benefit of a smaller size. CeBIT: Toshiba präsentiert stromsparende Full-HD-TVs
Toshiba stellt in Hannover auf einem CeBIT-Partnerstand (Halle 8, Stand B02) mit dem Bitkom, dem Umweltbundesamt und dem Bundesumweltministerium seine neuen Full-HD-TV-Serien RV635 und XV635 vor, die bis zu 65 Prozent weniger Strom verbrauchen sollen als herkömmliche LCD-Fernseher. Panasonic Lumix GH1 shoots 1080p video
Panasonic has announced a second entry into its Lumix G series of Micro Four Thirds cameras, the GH1. The camera continues to use a 12.1-megapixel sensor, but introduces the ability to record in 1080p, 24fps video, echoing one of the primary features of Canon's more expensive EOS-5D Mk. II. Panasonic's HD wonder Lumix DMC-GH1 gets previewed
We're still picking up our jaws (and eyeballs) off the floor at Panasonic's announcement of the many wonders the new Lumix DMC-GH1 has in store for us, but some lucky folks out there on the internet have actually handled the new camera and have a few impressions up for us poor GH1-less souls. The camera has an easy-access video button, to let people record right away without the voodoo associated with recording like on the D90. Panasonic samples the stereo mic at 46Khz for audio recording and along with the Wind Cut function the GH1 gathers what Lets Go Digital calls "impressive" results. Apple stellt Mac Pro mit Nehalem-Architektur vor
Apple hat heute neue Mac-Pro-Modelle vorgestellt. Sie basieren auf der Nehalem-Architektur, die Intel Ende vergangenen Jahres für Desktop-Rechner eingeführt hatte. Panasonic's new Lumix DMC-GH1 does 1080p video in a Micro Four Thirds form factor
Not even a year after its Lumix DMC-G1 got all the glory as the first Micro Four Thirds camera on the market, Panasonic is back with a slightly tweaked version in the DMC-GH1. ASUS debuts the Eee PC 1008HA "Shell" 10-inch ultraportable
ASUS has taken the wraps off its latest Eee PC, the 1008HA we heard was on the way to follow up on the S101. As far as anyone can tell -- ASUS is a little coy on specs so far -- the laptop harbors fairly traditional netbook specs and a netbook pricepoint, but the exterior is all new and rather attractive. The computer is 1-inch thick and weighs 2.4 pounds, with a curved, shiny plastic "shell" (ASUS calls it "pearlescent") to give a bit more luster than the average Eee PC. ASUS is including 802.11n, Bluetooth, 3G and WiMAX options, and packing in it Eee Sharing and Eee Arena software. Following the distribution of early release candidate versions, Adobe has posted final editions of its Lightroom 2.3 and Camera Raw 2.3 updates. iMac-Update: mehr als ordentliche Produktpflege?
Wie erwartet, hat Apple heute unter anderem neue iMac-Modelle vorgestellt. Apple bietet als Einsteigervariante nur noch ein 20-Zoll-Modell an, die drei weiteren Modelle kommen jetzt mit 24-Zoll-Display. Nach wie vor werden die Core-2-Duo-Prozessoren der Penryn-Generation verbaut, allerdings hat Apple die gesamte Modellreihe ein wenig aufgestockt, so dass die CPU-Geschwindigkeiten jetzt zwischen 2,66 und 3,06 GHz liegen. Hands-on with MSI's X-Slim X320, X340 and GT725 laptops
We knew MSI's newest X-Slim laptops were ultrathin, but it wasn't until we saw 'em in person here at CeBIT that we truly appreciated the design. These are definitely amongst the sexiest laptops we've seen in some time, though it only took a moment for fingerprints to begin marring the previously flawless glossy top. Both were appropriately sturdy and remarkably lightweight, and if these are any sign of where MSI is going with its styling, we can't wait for the future. Apple almost snuck this one past us, but friendly tipster Graham spotted the change-up: Apple has swapped out the standard wired Apple Keyboard for a new model lacking a numeric keypad. It's the same design as the wireless model, which also lacks a numeric keypad, except that this one has USB plugs on each end, and a cord of its own snaking towards your otherwise immaculate desktop. The good news is that the regular keyboard hasn't gone anywhere, you just have to make sure to configure your new purchase with it when you order -- it's a free "upgrade." Apple hat in einem Rundumschlag das komplette Desktop-Programm aktualisiert und dem iMac, dem Mac mini und dem Mac Pro schnellere Prozessoren und bessere Ausstattung spendiert.

Eye-Fi does video with new 4GB Explore Video and Share Video cards, launching an iPhone app
Just like Eye-Fi promised in January, the WiFi SD card maker is adding video sharing to its repertoire. The new Explore Video and Share Video cards bring video sharing and 4GB capacities to the existing photo sharing lineup. The new cards go for $99 and $79, respectively, while the old 2GB Eye-Fi Home and Eye-Fi Share cards have been marked down to $49 and $59 each. The cards can handle uploads to YouTube and Flickr, and are built for HD uploads, and naturally the Explore card adds the hotspot service and geotagging on top of regular service. Roku was nice enough to upgrade our player for Amazon Video on Demand a little early, and we're basically impressed -- although we're not in love with SD video and stereo audio, it's hard to complain about a free service update. Wunschliste für den iTunes Store erstellen
Das kostenlose Programm BookmarkiTunes (Mac/Windows) tut nichts anderes, als Kaufideen aus dem iTunes Store in einer Art Wunschliste zu sammeln. Man kann so etwas aber auch ohne zusätzliche Software realisieren:
Nicht gekaufte Artikel aus dem iTunes Store lassen sich ganz einfach in einer Wiedergabeliste sammeln. Man legt eine neue Wiedergabeliste an (Datei->Neue Wiedergabeliste), nennt diese z.B. "Wunschliste" und zieht Titel oder Videos aus dem iTunes Store darauf (bzw. auf den entsprechenden Eintrag im Quellenbereich).
Die so gesammelten Titel stehen nun jederzeit für einen späteren Kauf bereit, bei Bedarf genügt ein Klick auf die in der Wiedergabeliste angezeigte "Kaufen"-Taste.

CeBIT: Garmin präsentiert Nüvi-Modelle mit Fußgängernavigation
Garmin hat auf der CeBIT eine neue Serie von Navigationsgeräten vorgestellt. Die Nüvi-12xx- und 13xx-Modelle sind rund 25 Prozent schlanker und etwas leichter geworden als bisherige Nüvi-Geräte. Damit sollen sie sich besser für die Orientierung zu Fuß eignen. Um öffentliche Verkehrsmittel in die Navigation zu integrieren, muss der Anwender jedoch optional erhältliche CityXplorer-Karten erwerben. Je nach Stadt kosten die Karten zwischen 9,99 und 14,99 Euro. Ab April 2009 wird Microsoft Produkte wie Exchange, Sharepoint und Office Live Meeting als Online-Versionen für Firmen verfügbar machen. Leichter Rückgang der Mac-Nutzerzahlen im Internet
Im Februar waren weniger Mac-Nutzer im Internet unterwegs. Der Rückgang betrug allerdings nur 0,32 Prozent. Damit war der Anteil seit Jahren zum ersten Mal leicht fallend. In den vergangenen 12 Monaten stieg er von etwa 7,4 Prozent auf 9,6 Prozent.

We saw the first motherboard we'd actually consider buying a clear case for earlier this week when ASUS announced its new Marine Cool concept mobo, so we couldn't resist the urge to swing by and grab a few snaps of it here at CeBIT. Das Bundesverfassungsgericht hat sein Urteil zu Wahlcomputern gefällt. Danach sind die Wahlautomaten in Deutschland verboten. Hands-on with ASUS' Eee Keyboard
Remember that Eee Keyboard that was announced during CES? ASUS did itself proud by bringing a few to CeBIT this year, and we were able to swing by and take a look. The 5-inch, 800 x 480 touchpad was looking mighty fine, and the Atom N270 within seemed plenty powerful. It's a touch hard to believe that ASUS was able to shove a 16GB SSD, 1GB of RAM, WiFi and Bluetooth modules, VGA / HDMI ouputs and a few USB 2.0 ports within a slim, elegant keyboard, but somehow or another it did. ASUS broke out a stable of Eee PCs here in Germany, and we were on hand to have a look at all of the freshest ones. The pivoting, swiveling T91 (or T91GO, as it were) courted us most heavily, though we will admit, even our pansy man hands felt like they were going to twist the swivel screen right off. While it was admittedly difficult to turn our attention away from ASUS' Dual Panel touchscreen PC, we couldn't help but notice its latest Lamborghini-inspired machine. The show models were still very much conceptual, with the hinges showing signs of imperfections and the interface not quite ready to be touched by onlookers. We did spot that the units on hand were humming along on Windows 7, though. Engadget's anonymous tipster threw out these specs on the soon to be new Mac Pro
The Mac Pro will come in eight-core configurations from 3.0GHz to 3.6GHz and 16-core configurations in 3.6GHz and 4.0GHz flavors, and it sounds like it's going to be even funkier on the video tip -- our tipster says it has two regular DVI ports and a mini DisplayPort. Sure, okay. It's also apparently a bit lighter than the current model, at 35 pounds instead of 42.

Joining Sony's berth of updates are two new photo printers aimed at travelers. Sony's CyberShot DSC-HX1 camera gets official, coming March for $500
Sony has finally shown its cards for PMA this year, and that Ten of Clubs up its sleeve looks to be the CyberShot DSC-HX1 we heard about last week. According to the presser, it's the company's first digital camera with sweep panorama technology for up to 224-degree horizontal and 154-degree vertical panorama shots with the push of a button. It's also sporting a 20x optical zoom, 1/2.4-inch Exmor CMOS sensor for 10 frames per second at 9.1 megapixel resolution, a Sony G lens and 1080p HD movie recording. Hope you didn't just pull the trigger on a BDP-S350, 'cause we get the feeling Sony's two newest standalone BD decks are going to make you yearn for the next best thing. Apple updates RAW compatibility, MacBook battery
Apple has released software updates for Aperture 2, iPhoto '08 and iPhoto '09, along with a firmware update that is designed to extend the battery life of MacBooks. Mac mini heute? Angeblich Packungsfoto zum neuen Mac mini aufgetaucht
Demnächst tauchen dann wohl noch "Spyshots" der Anleitung, der Betriebssystem-DVD und des Stromkabels auf, allerdings könnte die Veröffentlichung eines neuen Mac mini bereits heute geschehen. Zuerst tauchte ein angebliches Foto der Verpackung des neuen mini auf, welches die selbe Rückseite zeigt wie in dem vorherigen Foto und Video. Auf beiden hatte der mini fünf USB-Schnittstellen, FireWire 800, Mini DisplayPort und Mini-DVI.
