ASUS to introduce O!Play media player at Computex
Wait, what's this? ASUS diving head first into the HD media streamer game? Based on images and details acquired by Hardware, we'd say chances are looking pretty good. Reportedly, the aforementioned outfit will showcase its very own media player at Computex next week in Taiwan, and our expectations are already fairly lofty. The O!Play (codename HDP-R1) is said to be a fair bit quicker than competing models, and the file compatibility list is also worthy of laud. Microsoft confirms: no three app limit in Windows 7 Starter
We'd heard it through the grapevine that Microsoft was gearing up to right the wrong and nix that ludicrous three application limit for Windows 7 Starter Edition, and sure enough, it did just that via The Windows Blog. The company admitted that it was removing the three application at-a-time limit previously slated for inclusion in Win7 Starter "based on the feedback it has received from partners and customers." Alienware M17x gaming laptop hands-on: it isn't quite "all powerful," but it'll do in a pinch

Im App Store findet sich mit Monster Pinball (2,99 Euro) eine ausgesprochen gut gemachte Flippersimulation für das iPhone und den iPod touch. Auf insgesamt sechs verschiedenen Spielflächen kann man die Kugel rollen lassen, wenn man zu sehr schüttelt ist Schluss und der Flipper tilt.

Neue Flippersimulation: Monster Pinball
Mit Monster Pinball (2,99 Euro) ist eine neue Flippersimulation im App Store erhältlich. With just days to go before the gaming world goes wild at E3, the hotly anticipated DJ Hero is now spinning on its very own website. Granted, a few of the sections are still labeled as "coming soon," but we're given a few more sneak peeks at the hardware, the gameplay and even a duo of handy links to pre-order it. Ericsson's fashion-forward W30 series 3G routers get detailed
It's not every day that we use "Ericsson," "sexy," and "3G router" all in the same sentence, so you can understand our excitement upon learning everything there is to know about the company's new W30 and W35 models. G4 Cube given wheels, automation, the will to race Woz's Segway
Not wanting the Allspark to beat them to the punch, the gang at thinkingbricks has given life to an Apple G4 Cube, complete with LEGO Mindstorms NXT-borne retractable wheels, a Bluetooth controller, automation via sensors, and a creepy red LED. That transparent base really makes the wheel deployment much more dramatic, a nice touch if we do say so ourselves. Microsofts Suchmaschine "Bing" startet am Mittwoch
Erst "Kumo", nun "Bing" – so heißt die neue Suchmaschine von Microsoft, die bereits am kommenden Mittwoch in den Wettbewerb um die zuverlässigste Internetsuche eintreten wird. "Bing ist ein erster wichtiger Schritt in unserem langfristigen Bemühen, Innovationen für die Internetsuche zu liefern", kündigte Microsoft-CEO Steve Ballmer an. Fast sicher: Millionen-Steuervorteil für Apples Serverfarm
Mit 42 zu 6 Stimmen wurde dem Steuererlass für Apples geplante Serverfarm im US-Bundesstaat North Carolina am vergangenen Donnerstag vorläufig zugestimmt. Mindestens 3 Millionen und bis zu 12,5 Millionen US-Dollar könnte Apple jährlich gegenüber dem Fiskus einsparen, wenn sie die geplante Anlage in der anvisierten Gegend errichten. North Carolina hofft im Austausch auf zusätzliche Arbeitsplätze und neuen Schwung für bereits ansässige Unternehmen.

Neuer Mac-Klon: Quo Computers will Apple nicht schaden, sondern helfen
Nicht gerade ermutigend ist die Niederlage, die der Mac-Klon-Hersteller Psystar derzeit sowohl juristisch als auch wirtschaftlich einstecken muss - könnte man meinen. "Quo Computer" sieht das offenbar anders und plant eine neue Marktoffensive mit Mac-Klonen, günstigen Preisen, verbessertem Kundenservice und sogar eigenen Ladengeschäften. Bereits am 1. Direktdownload von Filmen auf Touch/iPhone kommt
Schon im April hatten wir drüben auf dem iPhone-Ticker über erste Anzeichen für die Verfügbarkeit von Filmen und TV-Serien direkt vom iPod touch oder iPhone aus berichtet (hier und hier).
Offensichtlich steht die Umsetzung dieses Angebots mit Software 3.0 nun tatsächlich ins Haus. Laut AppleInsider existiert bereits Schulungsmaterial für Apple-Mitarbeiter, in dem die Möglichkeit, Filme und TV-Serien ohne den Umweg über iTunes und den PC direkt auf das Gerät zu laden ausdrücklich aufgeführt ist.
Allerdings ist zu erwarten, dass iPhone-Besitzer diese Option aufgrund der sehr großen Datenmengen vorerst nicht über das Mobilfunknetz nutzen könne

Apple has released an update for their iWork productivity software suite. According to the updater this update "improves reliability when saving some iWork documents and when playing some presentations more than once per Keynote session."

The only Steve Jobs patent that hasn't become a reality...yet
Harry McCracken breaks down the wide range of patents that Steve Jobs has been a part of. Interestingly, most of them were published as new products came to market. All except one:
Jobs mentioned to the NYTimes that at one time Apple had been working on a "Safari pad" but it just didn't make sense to bring it to the market (at that time). The work they did on that product eventually ended up being the basis for the iPhone. Jobs was obviously very emotionally tied to that project and the idea of a Safari Pad.
We still like the idea of this little guy being released later this year.

About to get shut before they open: Quo, the latest Apple Clone
Here's a good idea: Open up a shop that sells Apple clones. Not a shady internet operation. An actual storefront with people working inside.

BGR Pre Review: All good, except keyboard
It is nice to see that the iPhone will have some solid competition in the smartphone space. Boy Genius loved just about everything about the Pre except the keyboard. Strange, because that is one of the main differentiators between the Pre and the iPhone. You'd think Palm would go out of its way to knock that one out of the park.
Overall, they were impressed: "The OS is great. There’s no ifs ands or buts; it’s really refreshing to see something that’s brand new with a UI unlike anything else out there." Jon Rubinstein & Co should be congratulated for building a platform from scratch.
Honestly, we might not go out and buy one,

Teensy Weensy eggshell speakers, perfect for all the king's men
This is one waste not, want not, DIY project that caught our eye. Tiny little speaker housings made of carefully cut (and, we assumed, cleaned) eggshells, with small stands of clay. The final product apparently has "narrow" sound, but they sure look cuter than any homemade speakers we've ever seen before.[Via Wired]

World's largest laser opens for business in California
Another day, another laser well, not so fast. This particular laser just so happens to officially carry the "world's largest title." Built at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California, and housed in the National Ignition Facility -- or NIF -- it was completed at the end of March, and has just now been officially dedicated and opened for business. The laser inside the three-football field-sized building will aim to create a "star" on earth by focusing 162 beams at a pea-sized target, generating temperatures over 100 million degrees and pressure over 100 billion times the earth's atmosphere. Dell's Mini 9 vanishes from retail site as red Studio XPS 16 returns
We don't want to point fingers, but at the same time Dell's Studio XPS 16 red option suddenly returns -- now a "Merlot" instead of once-axed "Crimson" -- the Mini 9 conspicuously goes missing from the company's website. Coincidence? We think not. It's a regular murder mystery, and it looks like we have our prime suspect here, caught erm, red-lidded. Catching the killer, though, won't bring it back, but at least its younger brother, the Vostro A90, still seems to alive and kicking.

N97 disassembled on video... sort of
Are you dying to see Nokia's latest, the N97 ripped to shreds in glorious moving pictures? Well, that's too bad: we don't have that. What we do have, however, is a series of photographs of said shred-ripping, turned into a video. A creepy, silent film, if you will, complete with subtitles. Lack of movement and sound aside, it gives us a pretty great look at the innards of the handset, if that's what you're into.
