TSA's Millimeter scanners see through clothes, installed at 10 airports

Leave it to the TSA to come up with new ways to check out what you're packing. In this case, those body-scanning machines we've known about for some time are being installed in 10 airports. They are already being used in Los Angeles, Baltimore, Denver, Alburquerque, and New York's JFK. Ambrosia bringing Aki Mahjong to iPhone
Ambrosia is currently adapting its first iPhone game, Aki Mobile Mahjong, and is running a closed beta test as it works to release the game. Little is revealed on Ambrosia's development page, but it has already said that it is making use of Core Animation to select between levels, as well as EDGE and WiFi to download new levels. Hop-On readying six new 1800 series phones, including $125 smartphone
Filed under: CellphonesIt looks like Hop-On isn't resting on its laurels after letting is $10 "anti-iPhone" loose last month, with the budget-minded company now also set to release no less than six new handsets in its 1800 series, all of which will come in under $125. Mask of Emotion displays your feelings via LED emoticons, we cry/laugh/yawn

Since most people spend their days behind computers expressing emotions via colons and parentheses anyway, the Digital Media Design Dept at Hongik University figured they'd just be done with it all when they created the "Mask of Emotion." It displays LED emoticons that supposedly react to external stimuli, such as a smile when the wearer shakes hands with someone. HTC Touch Diamond boot video, for your eyes only

For those of you who absolutely, positively can't wait to see more of the Touch Diamond in action, the folks over at pocketnow are giving you a taste of what it's like to hold one in your hands. Apparently, when you boot up the phone you're greeted with a helpful video showing you how to navigate the heavily-skinned version of Windows Mobile (AKA Touch Flo 3D) that it sports. CrushFTP 4.8 refines CrushUploader, CrushSQL, more

IBM will start micro-watercooling
Source : CDR Info Water is a much better coolant than air. For this reason water cooling systems are used by those which want to push their processors to their limits.
In the past (a thing that is regretted today), Apple used such a system to cool certain Powermac G5. More recently, IBM launched servers with water cooling, and considers it as a solution for the future. Indeed, as the density of the components increases with the miniaturization of the transistors, the surface of exchange between the CPU and its cooling system decreases and this complicates things. Further in the future, one should manage to pile up the layers of silicon to further increase the number transistors for the same surface area.
Thus the engineers of IBM decided to create mico-channels of 50 microns thick between components. They will then circulate the water in the interior of the silicon so that the generated heat can be removed.

Philips debuts 22-inch auto-stereoscopic 3D monitor

Philips only just took the wraps off its 52-inch 3D display, but it looks like it's not stopping there, as it's now also showing off a new 22-inch model for those that prefer something a little more desk-friendly. This one boasts the same WOWvx "2D-plus-Depth" technology that its larger counterpart uses, but takes the resolution down to 1680 x 1050, and the contrast and brightness down to 1,000:1 and 300cd/m2, with a 5ms response time rounding out the basic specs. Telecom Italia plant 3G-iPhone-Start in Italien
Einige große europäische Staaten müssen offiziell noch immer auf das iPhone warten. Zu so einem Land gehört auch Italien. Markt für Ethernet-Switches wächst weiter
Das Marktforschungsunternehmen Infonetics bescheinigt dem weltweiten Markt für Ethernet-Switches im ersten Quartal 2008 im Vergleich zum selben Zeitraum im Vorjahr einen Zuwachs um neun Prozent. MacMinute schließt endgültig
Die populäre englischsprachige Mac-Newsseite MacMinute stellt nun endgültig ihren Dienst ein. Nachdem Stan Flack, der Mitgründer der Publikation MacCentral und auch der Seite MacMinute, im April verstorben ist (wir berichteten), sah sich deren Familie nicht mehr in der Lage, die Seite weiterzuführen. Da auch ein Verkauf keine Option war, verweist die Mac-Minute-Hompage nun auf zwei Alternativen: MacTech Magazine und Macsimum News. Dort soll der MacMinute-Community ein Platz zum Weiterbestehen geboten werden. Das zugehörige Forum mit dem Namen MacMinute Cafe wurde vorerst unverändert und unter dem selben Domainnamen auf die Server vom MacTech Magazine umgezogen.

ScanSafe, Anbieter von SaaS-Web-Security (Software-as-a-Service), hat innerhalb des letzten Jahres einen dramatischen Anstieg von Malware auf vertraunswürdigen Websites beobachtet. Im Mai dieses Jahres stammten über zwei Drittel der für ScanSafe-Kunden blockierten webbasierten Malware von legitimen Seiten, was einer Steigerung von über 407 Prozent gegenüber Mai 2007 entspricht. Viele staunten nicht schlecht, als einige Quellen kurz nach dem Start von Mac OS X 10.5.3 gleich von dem nächsten Update berichteten. eBay condemned for counterfeit
Last Wednesday the High Court of Troyes judged in favour of the luxury group of Hermes who had brough an action concerning the sale of counterfeit bags on the eBay.
eBay and the net surfer user of its service were both recognised as guilty and are ordered to pay 20.000 euros damages. Ebay must also display this judgement on its portal for 3 months.
The position of eBay in preceding business had been presented as: " only as someone offering storage; intervening neither in the contents of the advertisements, nor in the payment and the delivery of the articles sold on its site". The justice which had granted a decision on this line of defence has now changed his position.
This judgement could make jurisprudence in other lawsuits in which eBay is engaged, in particular those concerning the groups LVMH and Dior Couture and in which the requested compensations are respectively 20 million and 17 million euros. The decision should be delivered at the end of this month.

Kunde gewinnt Prozess gegen Apple
Das Problem einiger iMacs mit vertikalen Linien auf dem Bildschirm ist bereits seit über einem halben Jahr bekannt. Kürzlich wurde nun das erste Urteil in der Sache gesprochen. Ein verärgerter französischer Kunde und Hardmac-Leser hatte sich die Mühe gemacht, juristischen Beistand zu suchen und Ersatz für seine zwei iMacs zu verlangen. Telecom Italia has confirmed it will announce the launch date for the iPhone in Italy following the Apple keynote at WWDC, by Tuesday morning "at the latest," Reuters Italia reports.

New execs join Apple core team
Apple CEO Steve Jobs is keeping a close eye on iPhone development as the importance of its strategy for mobile computing continues to unfurl. Jobs is taking Apple's future so seriously he's effectively handed over more control to fellow exec, Tim Cook, who now oversees the work of the Mac engineering teams.
Well, not exactly - Apple has added two new faces to its executive team, Scott Forstall (pictured, now senior vice president, iPhone software) and Bob Mansfield (now senior vice president, Mac hardware engineering).
Forstall reports directly to Jobs, and is responsible for the development of iPhone software, "including the user interface, applications, frameworks and the operating system," according to Apple, at least.

iPhone will lead in mobile TV
Apple's next-gen iPhone is going to light a fire under the mobile TV market, with the potential to become the de facto standard for mobile TV among consumers.
"The iPhone could become the mobile video delivery device of choice for many consumers, by providing a compelling mobile TV and video proposition before mobile broadcasting networks, such as DVB-H become
widely available", said Analysys Mason analyst, Mark Heath, in a report titled, "iPhone Shows the Way for Mobile TV".
The analyst notes that while many operators already offer mobile TV using their 3G networks, such services suffer poor quality and coverage problems. That's partially because 3G only supports "relatively low penetrations of mobile TV users," the analyst said.

Grand Theft Auto beschert Take-Two deutlichen Gewinnzuwachs
Take-Two Interactive Software hat für das am 30. April geendete zweite Quartal einen Nettogewinn von 98,2 Millionen Dollar oder 1,29 Dollar je Aktie gemeldet. Wenn schon in den USA vom Auto überfahren werden, dann aber vom richtigen: Die US-amerikaner haben bekanntlich die Möglichkeit, gegen eine Gebühr ihr Nummernschild frei zu bestimmen. Das nutzen sie auch fleißig und da die Vergabe nicht für das ganze Land vereinheitlicht ist, fahren viele Autos mit einem Apple-Kennzeichnen durch die Gegend. Da gibt es den "Mac Guy", den "Mac Geek" oder "THXAAPL". Ironie des Schicksals wäre es wohl, von "Mac Help", "Fix Mac" oder "Dr Apple" gerammt zu werden.

Brother-Druckertreiber für Mac OS X 10.5.3 aktualisiert
Aus der Sicht manches Leopard-Besitzers, der auf OS X 10.5.3 aktualisiert hat, muss jedes Update unter 100 MB fast als bemitleidenswert winzig erscheinen. Doch bei dem Brother Print Driver 1.1 wird nicht auf die Tränen- sondern die Tintendrüse gedrückt. Damit das Update in der Softwareaktualisierung erscheint, muss der Drucker mit dem Mac verbunden und die Treiber in der Version 1.0 installiert sein. Intel Nehalem Really Impressive
Anandtech managed to get their hands on a Nehalem sample, the future evolution of Intel CPU to replace the current Penryn in couple of month. They run comparison test between a 4-core Nehalem clocked at 2.67GHz and a 4-core Penryn Core 2 at the same frequency. The Nehalem is respectively 28% and 44% faster for DivX and x264 encoding, and obtain a 24% higher score with Cinebench R10.
Such performance gain can be assigned to the new architecture but also to other improvement:
- For the first time in Intel CPU, the memory controller is integrated in the processor. As a consequence, the memory bandwidth is doubled when compared to the Core 2 Penryn, and the memory latency decreased by 40%
- The Nehalem support the Hyperthreading technology which allows creating 2 logic cores per physical core. One can then maximize the CPU load on each core.

Rapidweaver 4.0 Is Available
The beta test period is now over, and Realmac Software has now released the new version of Rapidweaver 4.0. Announced as a major update, this new version of the successful webdesign wysiwig application on Mac receives a mixed review from our team members. While Ars Technica wrote an extremely positive article based on the preview, I and other in the team were not so enthusiastic.
The interface has been revised to fit with Leopard, but long time Rapidweaver users will not be lost, as most of the changes are invisible. Intel and NVidia Talk about the Nehalem
Source : RegHardwareIn addition to its GPU, NVidia is also developing AMD and Intel compatible chipset. To obtain a perfect compatibility, NVidia needs to negotiate and sign agreement with Intel in order to get access to specifications as well as having the right to make business with it and compete with Intel-branded chipset.
As indicated in the previous news, the future generation of Intel CPU, aka Nehalem, should provide a real boost in performance, the memory controller so NVidia needs to sign a new agreement with Santa Clara founder to be ready to offer new Nehalem chipset right on time for the launch of this new CPU. Apple losses the legal process concerning the vertical lines
En Last February, we had spoken about a legal procedure launched by one of our readers against Apple. He had two iMacs, both affected by the famous problem of vertical lines that affected many readers.
The judgement was given yesterday. Apple was condemned to refund this reader for two computers. We will reconsider in detail the judgement, but it is very interesting on several points:
- Dominique, our reader, did not need to get a detailed technical evaluation (this would have been very expensive) to put forward the latent defect.
- For that, the judge agreed to regard the testimonies made on discussion forums as evidence of the extent of the problem.
- The judge qualified that this problem that affected the iMac but also the Powerbook of Vice was intrinsic to the manufacture of the machines, in short, a latent defect opening up the right to this refund.

Movistar, der Mobilfunkableger des spanischen Telekommunikationskonzerns Telefonica, hat laut der spanischen Presse angekündigt, dass nächste iPhone unter 100 Euro anzubieten. Intel's Nehalem bechmarked: 2.66GHz faster than 3.2GHz Penryn

Intel's got some Nehalem chips floating around Computex, and the crew from Anandtech manged to snag a couple and run some benchmarks. As you'd expect, Intel's latest and greatest put up pretty solid numbers, performing most operations faster than a 3.2GHz Penryn chip -- while only clocked at 2.66GHz. When the Penryn chip was clocked at 2.66GHz, Nehalem ran 20 to 44 percent faster, mostly due to insanely fast memory access speeds and Hyper Threading. We're just four days away from WWDC, so the rumor mill is churning at a fever pitch -- and the latest context-less bits of info to emerge from the churn are these purported photos of the 3G iPhone's touchscreens over at iLounge.
