PC Magazine empfiehlt aktuellen iMac
Bereits seit einiger Zeit testet das PC Magazine auch Apple-Computer - natürlich auch unter dem Gesichtspunkt, wie gut Windows darauf läuft. Der neue 24-Zoll-iMac wurde mit vier von fünf Punkten bewertet. Die Überarbeitung des Designs, welche optisch den weißen Balken darunter verkleinern würde, die Abwesenheit von Demoversionen auf der Festplatte, gute Leistungen unter Photoshop, umweltfreundlichere Konstruktion, 2 GB RAM als Standard und die Windows/Mac-Kompatibilität werden positiv bewertet. Weniger gefielt dem Tester das Fehlen von Speicherkarteneinschüben, die Mighty Mouse und das Apple kein Blu-ray-Laufwerk verbaut hat.

Mobo gets rebadge happy with two new low-cost subnotes for Brazil

We rather liked Onda's VX767 PMP when it hit the wires back in March, and it looks like the company is hard at work on a sequel with built-in WiFi. Er war der Hoffnungsschimmer nach der Krise Apples Mitte der Neunziger Jahre, der maßgeblich zu dem sich dann langsam wieder einstellenden Erfolg beitragen sollte. United Internet will die Übernahme des Mobilfunkanbieters Debitel durch Freenet verhindern. Sprint erwägt angeblich Verkauf von Nextel
Der US-Mobilfunkprovider Sprint Nextel denkt angeblich darüber nach, sich rund drei Jahre nach seiner Fusion wieder in zwei Einzelkonzerne aufzuspalten. Researchers tout 20 million processor-strong supercomputer to study climate change

America Movil snags iPhone for Latin America
America Movil will sell iPhone across Latin America starting this year.
The largest cell phone operator made the announcement today, the latest in what appears a fashionable string of mobile telcos to let investors know they’ve bagged distribution rights for the Apple mobile phone. Zahl überwachter Telefonanschlüsse 2007 weiter gestiegen
Die Bundesnetzagentur hat heute die Jahresstatistik 2007 der strafprozessualen TK-Überwachungsmaßnahmen gemäß Paragraph 110 Absatz 8 des Telekommunikationsgesetz (TKG) veröffentlicht. Demnach wurden von den Gerichten im letzten Jahr 38.386 Anordnungen zur Überwachung der Telekommunikation sowie 7603 Verlängerungsanordnungen erlassen.

Asiatische Töchter verhageln Balda erstes Quartal
Der Handyzulieferer Balda hat für das erste Geschäftsquartal ein verzögertes Umsatzwachstum wegen Problemen in Asien gemeldet. Wie der Konzern heute bekannt gab, stieg der Umsatz gegenüber der Vorjahresperiode zwar leicht von 42,9 Millionen auf 45,2 Millionen Euro, was Balda auf das Touchscreen-Geschäft beim Tochterunternehmen TPK zurückführt. In der schwierigen Region Asien schloss das Unternehmen das erste Quartal 2008 jedoch mit Umsatzerlösen in Höhe von 34,7 Millionen Euro ab. We thought it worth a repeat of then Apple iCEO Steve Job’s introduction of the new $1299 system, which offered a 233MHz G3 processor, 32MB of memory, a 4GB drive, USB and a CD-ROM drive (and built-in modem). Critics at the time slammed the system’s lack of a floppy drive, but ten years on and the iMac is still here. The floppy drive is not.

iPhone magic: Derren Brown
Looks like there’s a spate of iPod using magicians, hot on our Marco Tempest report yesterday, UK gadget mag T3 this week revealed internationally-renowned illusionist, Derren Brown, is an iPhone convert too - and he switched to Mac because Stephen Fry told him to.
“I bought my iPhone the day it came out,” says Derren Brown. “It took a bit of getting used to, as I used a Blackberry before. It’s slow for emails, so I’ll definitely get the 3G version. But the design is phenomenal. It’s so satisfying to have it done right.”

Cisco steigert Umsatz um 10,4 Prozent
Cisco hat seinen Umsatz im dritten Geschäftsquartal 2008 (bis 26. April) gegenüber dem Vergleichszeitraum des Vorjahres um 10,4 Prozent auf 9,8 Milliarden Dollar gesteigert. Erneute Probleme mit SP3-Distribution für Windows XP?
Nachdem Microsoft am 30. April kurzfristig die Auslieferung des Service Pack 3 für Windows XP gestoppt hatte, da Kompatibilitätsprobleme entdeckt worden waren, wurde die Distribution nun wieder aufgenommen. Hier stellt Microsoft den kostenlosen Download als ISO-Datei zur Verfügung. Die Größe beträgt rund 376 MB. Ursprünglich waren Kompatibilitätsprobleme mit Microsofts Unternehmensanwendung Dynamics Retail Management System aufgetreten, wobei laut heise auch jetzt noch unklar ist, ob die Probleme behoben werden konnten.

NBC: on Zune Store in US, on iTS in UK
While NBC left the iTunes Store US to enter a partnership with Microsoft and its Zune, US TV channel shows are still available on the iTS UK.
The reason might well be that NBC own online site, Hulu.com is not available outside USA, the company has to find other distribution channels outside America.

Deutliche Kundenzuwächse haben United Internet, unter anderem Gesellschafter von 1&1, GMX und Web.de, das nach eigenen Angaben erfolgreichste erste Quartal der Unternehmensgeschichte beschert. AT&T hat zwischen dem 15. Juni und dem 12. Juli eine Urlaubssperre für sein Verkaufspersonal verhängt. MoobiCent: Gedrosselte Daten-Flatrate sinkt auf 35 Euro

Cisco gibt leicht gedämpfte Prognose ab
Der Netzwerkausrüster Cisco hat bei der Bekanntgabe seiner Quartalszahlen eine gedämpfte Prognose abgegeben. Als im letzten Jahr internes Memo von AT&T an seine Mitarbeiter an die Öffentlichkeit geriet, kochte die Gerüchteküche über. Von Mitte Juni bis Mitte Juli verhängte man darin eine Urlaubssperre, um den bevorstehenden Kundenansturm meistern zu können. Dieser startete am 29. Juni in Form des iPhone. Das Service Pack 3 (SP3) für Windows XP steht nun mit einer Woche Verspätung als Download zur Verfügung. Eigentlich sollte es am 29. April 2008 erscheinen, in letzter Sekunde wurde aber die Veröffentlichung des Service Pack 3 auf unbestimmte Zeit verschoben. Neue Beta des iPhone SDK und der Firmware erschienen
Entwickler können eine neue Version des iPhone-SDK, sowie, wenn sie in das spezielle Entwicklerprogramm aufgenommen wurden, die passende Beta-Version 2.0 des iPhone OS herunterladen. Im Bereich Adressbuch und EAGL hat Apple einige Änderungen vorgenommen, auf den Entwicklerseiten werden die Unterschiede gegenüber der Beta 4 beschrieben. Der kleinere Download erklärt sich vor allem durch die abgespeckte Dokumentation: Es liegt nur noch eine Rumpfdatei bei, der Rest kann über das SDK heruntergeladen werden, wenn eine lokale Kopie erwünscht ist.

Apple has posted the fifth beta version of its iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK). According to Apple’s notes, the new release “fixes bugs and adds support for the latest iPhone OS.” The updated SDK, which is available as a free download for registered iPhone developers from the iPhone Dev Center, is a 1.08GB download, and is listed as build 9M2173a, beta 5. Voranmeldungen zur Apple Expo 2008 gestartet
Auch dieses Jahr wird es wieder eine Apple-Messe auf französischem Boden geben und zwar in Paris im Porte de Versailles vom 17. bis 20. September. In den letzten Jahren hat die Messe stark an Attraktivität verloren, da Apple sie nicht mehr für Neuvorstellungen nutzte. Es ist daher zu erwarten, dass die Expo auch dieses Jahr in erster Linie den Charakter einer Verkaufsveranstaltung haben wird - allerdings haben Europäer, die nicht Zeit und Geld für einen Flug in die USA haben auch nicht gerade viel Auswahl im Bereich öffentlicher Apple-Veranstaltungen. Im Anmeldeformular fragt der Veranstalter in einem Pflichtfeld auch gleich nach, wieviel Geld man denn auszugeben bereit ist.
