International Space Station's commode gets fixed
Filed under: HouseholdIt's amazing how quickly humans can remedy problems when really placed in a bind, and rather than waiting for supplies to come up with Discovery next week, crew members aboard the International Space Station were able to solve their little dilemma already. Reportedly, cosmonauts were able to cure whatever was ailing the temporarily non-functioning john, enabling those stuck in space to urinate freely. Thankfully, the seven-year old toilet is due to be replaced with a fresh new one this Fall, and we'd say the replacement couldn't arrive soon enough.

Neue Betaversion des iPhone SDK veröffentlicht
Apple hat mit dem "iPhone SDK - Beta Release 6" eine weitere Betaversion des iPhone SDKs veröffentlicht. Zu den Verbesserungen macht Apple wie üblich nur sehr vage Angaben. Beta Release 6 benötigt Mac OS X 10.5.3 und ist nicht mit älteren Leopard-Versionen kompatibel. Zudem sollen zahlreiche Fehler behoben worden sein.

3K Computers gets extra official with RazorBook 400: now $299

Our feelings are largely unchanged about the lackluster RazorBook 400, but hacking a full Benjamin from the asking price is sure to get people looking. Yep, the subnote we previously heard would run around $400 has just been officially announced by 3K Computers at $299. Specs wise, everything is remaining the same -- less than 2-pounds, 7-inch display, 4GB of internal flash and a promised boot-up time of under 8-seconds -- but it just got a lot harder to brush this one off and look elsewhere.

New iPhone SDK beta, requires 10.5.3

Analyst: Apple boosting iPod orders, cutting Macs
Apple is shifting the amount of stock it is ordering from manufacturers, according to FBR Capital Markets analyst Craig Berger. Apple just released the "iPhone SDK - Beta release 6". As usual there is not many details:
What's new in this version:
Beta release 6 requires the Leopard 10.5.3 software update and is incompatible with other OS releases and pre-release software. This release fixes many bugs and add support for the latest iPhone OS.
It seems to be a required update for iPhone SDK following the release of Leopard 10.5.3.

Apple has released the sixth beta version of its iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK). The new beta, labeled build 9M2192 beta 6, requires Mac OS X 10.5.3, the latest update to the Mac operating system which was released earlier today. T-Mobile loses magenta suit against Telia, we try not to laugh

The Danish Eastern Regional High Court today ruled that Telia and DT don't compete directly in the Danish market and that Telia isn't using the same magenta shade, leading the court to overturn an injunction DT sought against Telia's use of the color. Google demos the HTC Dream at I/O conference

Word on the street is that Google just busted out a live demo of the oft-rumored HTC Dream doing its Android-flavored thing at the company's I/O conference in San Francisco. Reports tell us that the device is a roughly 3-inch by 5-inch touchscreen phone with a slider keyboard. Not a lot is known right now, though apparently the device packs an accelerometer which allows you to tilt the unit to scroll across Google Maps or Street View. AMD's Turion Ultra to launch June 3, additional Puma details revealed

We already knew that AMD had its Puma and Griffin-based Turion line coming, but a June 3 launch at Computex is all but confirmed now. Erklärtes Ziel für die Absatzzahlen des iPhones sind zehn Millionen Geräte bis Ende 2008 - ein damals ambitioniert erscheinendes, heute dennoch gar nicht so unrealistisches Ziel. IDC: Servermarkt in Europa wächst stärker als in USA
Nach Angaben von IDC ist der weltweite Servermarkt im ersten Quartal 2008 im Vergleich zum Vorjahreszeitraum um 3,5 Prozent auf insgesamt 13 Milliarden Dollar gewachsen. Verwantwortlich waren dafür gestiegene Umsätze in Europa und Asien, die das schwache USA-Geschäft mehr als ausgegelichen haben, so IDC. Apple lässt mehr iPods produzieren
Wie sich den aktuellen Zahlen aus Apples Lieferkette entnehmen lässt, rechnet das Unternehmen offensichtlich mit einer höheren Nachfrage nach iPods im aktuellen und kommenden Quartal. Safari Mobile auf Samsung Mobiltelefonen?

Latest Samsung phone hosts Safari browser
Samsung has switched to Apple’s Safari browser in its latest Symbian-powered smartphone, the Samsung L870.
The new device was introduced today at Barcelona’s S60 trade show. It runs Symbian v9.3 and S60 third Edition Feature Pack 2, but it’s the alleged use of the Safari browser that’s most likely to raise a stir, as it’s the same browser as used on the iPod touch and iPhone.
That consumer electronic powerhouse Samsung has chosen to adopt Apple’s world class browser for its new device underlines the success of the iPhone. It also reflects the strong relationship between the two firms - Samsung provides much of Apple’s flash memory, for example, and Apple made a $100 million tactical investment in the company for display production in 1999.

Apps will drive iPhone sales - Goldman Sachs
On strength of the multiplicity of soon-available applications, Apple will sell 20 million iPhones by the end of 2009, selling another 10 million in 2010, says Goldman Sachs.
"Third-party applications will differentiate the iPhone from a growing number of its smartphone competitors,” analyst David Bailey told The Financial Post. The analyst pointed out that deployment of Mac OS X on the device offers a “more robust” application development environment for developers, with the App Store promising a much better user experience, likely to sell more applications than existing smartphone application purchasing systems.

Als neben dem iPhone-SDK der "iFund" der Risiko-Kapitalfirma Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) vorgestellt wurde, war der Ansturm auf den insgesamt 100 Millionen US-Dollar großen Topf groß. Intel bestätigt Verzögerungen bei Centrino 2 "Montevina"
Intels nächste Centrino-Plattform mit dem Codenamen "Montevina" kommt deutlich später auf den Markt als bisher geplant. Das bestätigte das Unternehmen gegenüber Golem.de und nannte auch den neuen Termin: Am 14. Dell guilty of fraud, deceptive business and false advertising
New York State Supreme Court Judge Joseph Teresi ruled against Dell yesterday, declaring the company had engaged in fraud, false advertising, deceptive business and abusive debt collection practices.
The judge slammed the company for luring customers with ads that offered "no interest" or "no payment" financing options, but its financing arm would charge customers higher rates than those promised.
The company was also slammed for a sustained pattern in which Dell deprived customers of technical support that they bought or were eligible for under warranty. Cited cases included extremely long waits for tech support to answer calls, repeated transfers of calls and frequent disconnections of support calls.

Streit um Verbot von Schnurlostelefonen
Das Verbot von älteren, strahlungsarmen CT1+- und CT2-Schnurlostelefonen, das die Bundesnetzagentur gestern verkündet hat, hätte abgewendet werden können. The Intel Centrino 2 platform supposed to be launched in a near future is experiencing some delay due to unexpected problems. Among them, one can mention :
- Intel discovered a bug in the graphic core while the production was already launched. If the bug has been corrected, the first samples have been trashed. As a consequence, the G45 and G43 IGP chipset are expected to see shortages in Q3 2008. For improving production level, Intel has been slowing down manufacturing lines of other chipset, but it will take times and the new platform might not be as widely available as originally expected.

Intel Centrino 2 delay, Apple impacted?
Apple’s MacBook upgrade plans may have hit an obstacle, with news that Intel will delay the release of its new Centrino 2 platform for laptops by nearly two months.
Intel’s delaying the release in order to address problems related to the chipset and the antenna used with the wireless chipset. Centrino 2 is the latest version of Intel’s laptop platform and was originally scheduled to ship in June. The impact of the delay means computer makers - potentially including Apple, should it make good on long-standing rumours claiming it has chosen Centrino 2 for its next scheduled MacBook release - will now have to delay the launch of any new machines.

Motorola schließt Sicherheitslücke in Razr-Handys
Motorola hat ein Software-Update für die Mobiltelefone der Modellreihe Razr veröffentlicht, dass eine Sicherheitslücke im Umgang mit JPEG-Dateien schließt. Source : Digitimes The joint venture under the name of CoreSolid Storage creates by PQI and TDK announced the availability of its first product, a SSD1.8" disk using SLC memories and a SATA interface (exit again the Macbook air).
Capable of a data flow of 100 MB/s for reading, this disk should be able to function 24/24 during 5 years thanks to a technology called Kotobuki which supervises permanently the usage of the memory cells to take care of optimizing the distribution of writing in a homogeneous way.

iControlpad bringt echtes Joypad für das iPhone
Das iPhone (und der iPod touch) ist leistungsfähig genug, um eine ganze Reihe älterer Systeme zu emulieren. Veröffentlicht oder angekündigt sind unter anderem Emulatoren für NES, C64, PlayStation 1, Mega Drive und PC Engine. Da all diese Geräte auf Joypads beziehungsweise Joysticks als Spielsteuerung setzen, muss diese Steuerung auf dem Touchscreen des iPhone simuliert werden. Die nicht fühlbaren "Tasten" machen allerdings jedes Spiel deutlich schwieriger - da kann selbst der erste Level von Bubble Bobble zur Herausforderung werden.

Microsoft hofft auf 50 Prozent Wachstum für Windows Mobile
In den nächsten zwei Geschäftsjahren rechnet Microsoft insgesamt mit mindestens fünfzig Prozent Wachstum bei den verkauften Smartphones mit Windows Mobile. Allein im Geschäftsjahr 2008 sollen Microsofts Partner insgesamt 20 Millionenen Geräte absetzen, 2009 dann 30 Millionen.
