More iPhone 3G details: future Apple-made chips, varying visual voicemail, and new video features

MobileMe backend using Sun's Java Messaging platform?
It looks like Apple might be employing Sun's Java Messaging Server (Grid?) for behind the scenes heavy lifting that enables the new MobileMe functionality. Performing a telnet to "smtp-mx1.mac.com" on port 25 MacTalk User MacTicks got the following response:

iPhone-Altkunden bekommen neues Gerät gegen Aufpreis
Deutsche iPhone-Nutzer der ersten Generation werden von T-Mobile die Möglichkeit erhalten, gegen Aufpreis auf das iPhone 3G umzusteigen. Fast schon Tradition: iPhone 3G Camping
Jede Angewohnheit, jedes Phänomen wird - wiederholt man es oft genug - zu einer Tradition, die viele dann nicht mehr missen wollen. Genau das könnte bald auch für die Warteschlangen vor Apple-Stores, AT&T-Filialen oder auch T-Mobile-Geschäftsstellen an Erstverkaufstagen neuer iPhones zutreffen. Das "iPhone-Campen", meint der Forbes-Autor Daniel Lyons jedenfalls, entwickelte sich bereits zu einem solchen Ritus. Er muss es wissen: Lyons schreibt nun schon über eineinhalb Jahre lang als "Fake Steve Jobs" ein fiktives Tagebuch des Apple-Geschäftsführers.

iCalamus mit QuickLook und iPhoto-Buch-Unterstützung
Calamus - da war doch etwas. In der Frühzeit des Desktop Publishings galt Calamus als das Layoutprogramm überhaupt auf dem Atari. Otokinoko Binaural Mic creeps us out in stereo

Look, we get what they're trying to do here. The two "ears" are meant to capture sound in stereo in the same way a human does, therefore producing a better sound picture in playback. The only problem is that your subject, be they human, inanimate or a strange hybrid, is going to be so busy being freaked out by this set of blue ears that they'll forget to make any sort of "natural sounding" noise. Oh, and there's the little problem of the price: the Binaural Recording Mic from Otokinoko retails for $3,900 -- quite a bit to spend on a blue gimmick. We want.

Quake Wars: Update auf Version 1.5
Aspyr veröffentlicht ein Update des Spiels Enemy Territory: Quake Wars . Neben den Änderungen der PC-Version behebt die Version 1.5 auch drei Fehler der Mac-Variante. Der Server Browser soll nicht mehr abstürzen, zudem löste Aspyr ein Problem mit der Valley-Karte. Ein Workaround beschreibt, wie man wieder an den Vollbildmodus heran kommt.

Manchmal wünscht man sich zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt Funktionen herbei, von denen man bisher nicht wusste, dass es sie bereits gibt. Mac OS X 10.5.4: Weiterer Build an Entwickler
Auf rund 150 Megabyte ist der neue Build 9e12 angewachsen, der ein Dutzend weiterer Probleme beheben soll. Designer-Träume: Tastatur aus Glas
Die meisten sind wohl vom Design fast aller Produkte, die Apple auf den Markt bringt, sehr angetan. Oft überzeugen sie durch perfekte Proportionen und ihre Linienführung. Apple Store ist nicht erreichbar
Apple hat weltweit den Online-Store geschlossen - große Neuigkeiten sind an einem Sonntag allerdings nicht zu erwarten. Der iTunes Store ist im Moment erreichbar, meldet sich aber mit einer ungewöhnlichen Fehlermeldung beim Versuch, Titel dem Einkaufswagen hinzuzufügen: "Die angeforderte Ressource wurde nicht gefunden".

Apple Store USA nicht mehr erreichbar
Der Apple Store in den USA ist seit einiger Zeit nicht mehr zu erreichen. Normalerweise deutet dies auf neue Produkte hin, aber normalerweise nicht an einem Sonntag. Es ist sehr wahrscheinlich, dass es sich um normale Wartungsarbeiten handelt und keine neuen Produkte vorgestellt werden.

Update: iTunes-Alternative Songbird
Mit dem Media-Player Songbird ist ein ausgesprochen interessantes Open Source-Projekt für Windows, Mac und Linux erhältlich.
Der Grundaufbau erinnert noch deutlich an iTunes, die Kreativität der Programmierergemeinde zeigt sich jedoch in der Vielzahl der Modifikations- und Erweiterungsmöglichkeiten. Als so genannte Add-ons können diverse Skins, grafische Effekte und praktische Werkzeuge installiert werden. Songbird verfügt zudem über einen integrierten Webbrowser für den Aufruf von beispielsweise Musikblogs oder Konzertterminen sowie ein umfangreiches SHOUTcast-Verzeichnis.
Songbird ist kostenlos und aktuell kompatibel zum iPod classic, der 3. iPod nano-Generation, dem iPod shuffle der 2. Generation sowie dem iPod 5G.

Intel wastes our time and yours with SL and WoW clients for MIDs

Don't get ahead of us here, Intel isn't building full-featured Second Life and World of Warcraft apps for handheld Mobile Internet Devices. Instead they're using a new "Interactive 3D Streaming" tech to control and view the game remotely -- similar to some to that Telekinesis app we saw playing WoW on the iPhone last year, but Intel seems to be much further along. Their Xeon 5400 server can handle 14 clients simultaneously, but we're guessing this won't be cost effective for Blizzard anytime soon -- though

Front facing camera in WWDC presentation iphone?
Gizmodo points us to an interesting little video shot of Phil Schiller's iPhone during the WWDC keynote. It looks like there is a camera in the upper left hand corner, right? Obviously lots of journalists have got their hands on real 3G iPhones so it may just be a finger smudge. However, it is hard to argue with the video - it does look like there is something there. Maybe Steve's "one more thing" will come in a few weeks?
