First-person RC car to revolutionize sibling rivalries

Gadgets, Portable Video This certainly isn't the first time anyone has mounted a video camera to an RC car and taken it for a spin, but the new system from Fat Shark to do so is certainly the most comprehensive yet. A set of wireless VR goggles provide the display, and there's a built-in accelerometer in the goggles to control the tilt and pan of the camera installed on the car. You can buy the system with the car, or purchase the components separately to hook onto a plane or for some other nefarious purpose. No word on price, but we would've traded our NES and two good tubs of Legos for a shot at this growing up. Somebody has to keep that up-to-no-good sister of ours and her dastardly playmates. Origami Experience 2.0 finally coming to a UMPC near you

Microsoft pushed out its Origami Experience 2.0 to OEMs in January, but the purtied up interface for Vista-based UMPCs is finally available to all in the form of a free download. PSP L2 and R2 button mod ain't pretty, gets the job done

It seems a bit of a crime against the PSP's aesthetics, but apparently some folks out there really, really want to do PS1 emulation right. Acid Modder "Electro" managed to finagle L2 and R2 buttons onto his PSP. He rates his hack a 4 out of 5 difficulty level, which basically means we aren't going near this one, but if you know you way around a soldiering iron, his tutorial is fairly detailed. You'll end up with some pretty tiny buttons up top, but it sure beats mapping those L2 and R2 to the analog stick or something even more convoluted.

Videoübertragung: HDMI soll schnurlos werden
Der HDMI-Anschluss hat sich mittlerweile für die Übertragung von hochwertigem Bildmaterial etabliert. Viele neue LCD- oder Plasma-Fernseher verfügen sogar über mehrere dieser Anschlüsse. Sumitomo debuts superconductor powered electric car

Okay, the science nerds in the audience didn't exactly let us know that we've entered the age of commercial superconductors, but apparently Sumitomo Electric has built a Toyota Crown Comfort that's powered by a superconducting engine. Cooled by liquid nitrogen to -200° C, apparently all this madness nets you an extra 10% gain in distance over regular battery-powered motors. T-Mobile: iPhone 3G ist kaum billiger als Vorgängermodell
Laut einem Bericht von Welt Online bleiben die T-Mobile-Tarife für das iPhone 3G auf hohem Niveau. Von der angekündigten Preisoffenive (Halber Preis, doppelte Geschwindigkeit), die Apple-Chef Steve Jobs auf der Entwickler-Konferenz am vergangeneen Montag in San Francisco angekündigt hatte, werden deutsche Kunden kaum profitieren.

iPhone-Oberfläche für Mobiltelefon-Projektor kopiert
Dass den Chinesen beim Kopieren von bestehenden Produkten fast keine Grenzen gesetzt zu sein scheinen, zeigten einige "Firmen" bereits anhand von iPhone-Klonen. Verblüffend ähnlich sahen diese Geräte dem Original, die Qualität war natürlich minderwertig. Weiter geht‘s, dachte man sich wohl in Fernost und entwarf "das weltweit erste Mobiltelefon mit Projektion-Funktion".

Apple TV gets the SSD treatment

Telekom-Skandal: Staatsanwaltschaft findet Abhöranlage
Bei Ermittlungen in der Bespitzelungsaffäre bei der Deutschen Telekom hat die Bonner Staatsanwaltschaft eine Abhöranlage sichergestellt. Dabei handelt es sich um eine Mitschneideeinrichtung für Telefongespräche, berichtet der Spiegel. Die Telekom-Führung betonte, dass das Gerät nur für Notfälle im Unternehmen zum Einsatz kam. iPhone als Navigationsgerät fürs Auto doch möglich
Spätestens seitdem klar ist, dass das neue iPhone integriertes GPS besitzt, wollen es wohl viele auch als Navigationsgerät im Auto nutzen. Zwar hieß es anfangs, solch eine Möglichkeit ist für Apples Mobiltelefon nicht vorgesehen, gibt es jetzt doch positive Anzeichen zu vermelden. Denn die fränzösische Seite MacGeneration konnte mit TomTom-Pressesprecher Yann Lafargue ein Gespräch führen.

Dass sich Apples Notebook immer größerer Beliebtheit erfreuen, ist kein Geheimnis. Gerade bei Studenten sind 13,3"-MacBooks gefragt, während Anwender im professionellen Bereich gerne zum schnelleren MacBook Pro greifen. Rund 50 Prozent der weltweit verkaufen Notebooks haben immerhin ein 15,4"-Display. Die guten Verkaufszahlen machen sich natürlich auch in den Statistiken bemerkbar.

Welt Online will bereits detaillierte Informationen zu den deutschen Telekom-Tarifen für das iPhone 3G vorliegen haben. Danach soll es das Gerät mit einem Zweijahresvertrag im teuersten Tarifmodell für nur einen Euro geben. Beim Einsteigertarif von 29 Euro monatlich werden 169 Euro für das Gerät fällig. Sollten diese Informationen zutreffen, ändert T-Mobile offenbar lediglich den Gerätepreis und behält die aktuelle Tarifstruktur bei.
Alle Telefonkunden, die künftig einen Zweijahresvertrag bei T-Mobile für das neue iPhone 3G mit einem monatlichen Tarif von 89 Euro wählen, müssen für das Multimedia-Handy selbst nur einen Euro bezahlen. Datenschutz für Internetnutzer soll ins Grundgesetz
Die Grünen wollen den Datenschutz ins Grundgesetz aufnehmen. Einen entsprechenden Gesetzentwurf will die Fraktion am Diensta, dem 17. Juni 2008, beschließen und noch vor der Sommerpause im Bundestag einbringen. AMD has a one year exclusivity on the external video cards
Source : TGdailyAMD talks up its new platform for laptops primarily thanks to the ability to connect on these machines an external video card via a NCV-Express train 8x connector. The card can then be used to connect an external screens or to accelerate integrated video.
Proof that they are pushing this platform is that they have signed a one year exclusive contract with JAE, the company which developed this connector.
Intel are a bit behind in the field of the video on portables compared to its competitors. All now propose solutions that use, in addition to the video integrated into the chipset, another more powerful chip that can be activated/deactivate when battery life is not crucial. Toward standard tests for SSD disks
Source : Digitimes Currently we are living through a wave of advertisements of SSD disks. Each manufacturer puts forward more or less enticing figures for data transfer speeds and also for the lifespan.
In order to keep everyone honest, Taiwanese manufacturers have decided to create the SSD Alliance; the goal is to define standard tests so that everyone speaks the same language and that the customers can really compare the products.
They have already brought out version 1.0 these tests, based on those practised by the JEDEC, the authority charged with defining the standards of random access memory; they invite the maximum number of manufacturers to join them.
One will be able to thus know if a MTBF of 4 million hours means that the disk will function at full capacity for tens of years or if, after this period, the capacity has deteriorated to a single byte.

Vor 9 Tagen verteilte Apple den ersten 10.5.4-Seed an die Entwickler - in der Nacht auf heute folgte nun der zweite: Mac OS X 10.5.4 9e12 behebt einige Fehler bringt aber vor allem die Funktionen für mobileme mit - damit darf das Update für Anfang Juli erwartet werden, zusammen mit iTunes 7.7.

Apple angelt sich 4.6% Marktanteil bei Notebooks

Motorola research cut in half, boat keeps on sinking

Not that Motorola's had an abundance of innovative consumer products in the last few years, but what forward movement the company's research labs were making is about to be halved. Moto announced that it'll be cutting its research group in about half, down to about 300 employees, as well as cutting some unnamed projects and moving 180 others away from research. We don't necessarily think this is a bad thing, though, because the state Moto's in right now, they're far more desperately in need of some development than they are research.
