NOVA 3D LED light display runs at 25fps

You know we love the crazy light fixtures, and it doesn't get much crazier than the NOVA, a 3D LED display developed by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology for its 150th birthday. Each of the 25,000 suspended lights contains 12 LEDs, and it's capable of pumping out 16M colors at 25fps. Telekom: 300.000 unbearbeitete Aufträge

Samsung und Sony erweitern LCD-Produktion

Durch mehrere NetCologne-Kunden wurden wir darauf aufmerksam gemacht, dass von unserem Server versendete E-Mails seit circa einer Woche nicht mehr ankommen. Grund hierfür ist, dass NetCologne einen großen Block von IP-Adressen, in dem sich unter anderem auch unsere 16 IP-Adressen befinden, auf die eigene Blacklist gesetzt hat.

Fujitsu lets loose U810, T2010 tablet PCs

Fujitsu wasn't all that specific about pricing or release details when it announced its new U810 and T2010 tablet PCs earlier this year, but it looks like both have now finally made their way out the door. In case you missed it, the big addition this time around is the inclusion of a built-in HSPA modem (and rather obvious antenna), which will run you an extra $200 on top of the $999 and $1,499 base prices for the U810 and T2010, respectively. T-Mobile 3G official next week with data
T-Mobile USA will officially debut its 3G (third-generation) cellular network next week and will include both voice and data, the company says. O2 prepares for 3G iPhone
More information confirms O2 has ramped up operations for the release of the next-generation iPhone - the company has extended its 3G network to 80 per cent of the UK.
This news was confirmed by UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, this morning. The move follows Ofcom's notice to O2 in February that it would shorten its license by four months if it did not comply with its rollout obligation by June 30 2008.
The rollout obligation required each of the five holders of a 3G license to roll out their networks to enable the provision of 3G services to at least 80 per cent of the population from 31 December 2007

Polaroid hat den Preis und den Marktstart für seinen bereits im Februar 2008 vorgestellten mobilen Sofortbild-Minidrucker PoGo genannt, der damals noch ZINK-Printer hieß. Apple and Hollywood Majors Reach an Agreement
Yesterday, Apple published a press release to announce that new movies released from major film studios and premier independent studios are available for purchase on the iTunes Store on the same day as their DVD releases. To strengthen the potential of the iTS, Apple signed this agreement with most of the largest Hollywood studios : 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Universal Studios, Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros.
Unfortunately, iTunes Movies remains exclusively available in the US, prices will vary from 14.99 USD for new releases and 9.99 USD for library title purchases.
Majors probably found a way to slowly stop their DVD business and transfer it to an online store, and then have more resources to concentrate on the growing new format, Blu ray.

Großbritannien: Auch das 16GB-iPhone ausverkauft
Aufgrund der Preisnachlässe, die die Mobilfunkbetreiber in einigen Ländern auf das iPhone geben, greifen viele Kunden gerade jetzt zu Apple Mobiltelefon. Nicht zuletzt deswegen waren in Großbritannien bei einigen Händlern kurzerhand die Lagerbestände des 8GB-Modells aufgebraucht. Adobe legt Flash-Spezifikationen offen
Adobe hat die Spezifikationen für seine Flash-Technologie komplett offengelegt und die Einschränkungen der Lizenzen aufgehoben. Künftig dürfen die Formate SWF und FLV/F4V ohne Einschränkung genutzt werden. Auch sollen die Lizenzgebühren entfallen, die das Unternehmen bislang für den Flash-Player auf Embedded-Geräten verlangt hatte.

Rein von den technischen Eckdaten her geht man oft davon aus, dass ein Mobiltelefon mit einer 5-Megapixel-Kamera bessere Bilder liefert als Modelle der 2- oder 3-Megapixel-Fraktion. Sun Microsystems mit Verlust von 34 Millionen US-Dollar
Der Computer- und Software-Hersteller Sun Microsystems erlitt wegen Konjunkturschwäche in den USA in seinem dritten Finanzquartal 2007/2008 einen Verlust in Höhe von 34 Millionen US-Dollar. MailSteward ist eine Datenbanklösung, um E-Mails und alle enthaltenen Informationen sicher zu archivieren und einfach durchsuchbar zu machen. Um sich als Anwender einen Überblick der Funktionen zu verschaffen, stellt der Hersteller eine Demoversion zur Verfügung, die voll funktionsfähig ist, aber nur 3.000 E-Mails archivieren kann. US-Gericht: Online-Dienste müssen unabhängige Künstler bezahlen
Ein Bundesgericht hat jetzt zugunsten der American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) entschieden, dass für Musik, die als Stream angeboten wird, "angemessene Lizenzzahlungen" auch an unabhängige Künstler fällig werden. Bisher haben Online-Dienste wie AOL, RealNetworks und Yahoo nur an die großen Musiklabels Abgaben bezahlt. Before one wonders what some people may be using their computers for - you should realise what is behind this rather sensational headline. For sure we all know that keyboards are not the cleanest of items since they are touched by everyone everyday - however, also, due to their construction it is easy to trap dirt between and under the keys
It seems that some office workers eat their lunch sitting in front of their computers (this is a report from the UK - not France!) thus food particles, together with dust, collects and forms a reservoir of nutrients. Additionally if they also skip the washing of the hands after using the toilet - one can understand how the keyboard can harbour all sorts of undesirable bacteria.
I think this is enough on this unsavoury subject of personal hygiene - but maybe one should look with suspicion at public terminals

Für einen effizienteren und zuverlässigeren Download von Missionsdaten des Mars-Orbiters "Mars Express" hat die ESA ab sofort ein KI-System (Künstliche Intelligenz) namens Mars Express AI Tool (MEXAR2) im Einsatz. iTunesShut: Mac aus wenn Musik fertig
Wir haben iTunesShut vor geraumer Zeit bereits vorgestellt: Das kostenlose Programm fährt den Mac runter, lässt ihn einschlafen, neu starten oder schaltet einfach iTunes aus, sobald die eingestellte Zeit abgelaufen ist. Alternativ kann man auch eine bestimmte Anzahl Songs oder eine Playlist als Countdown einstellen und sich von seinem Lieblingskünstler in den Schlaf wiegen lassen.
In der aktuellen Version 4.7.1 unterstützt das Programm auch die Apple Remote. Über die Mac-Fernbedienung können die iTunesShut-Vorgaben verändert oder gar der komplette Rechner heruntergefahren werden.

iPhone als Tricorder
Bald geht in einem neuen Film die alte Enterprise mit der alten Besatzung, aber neuen Schauspielern auf die Reise ins All. Besonders legendär ist der Tricorder, jenes Stück Technik, das von kleinen Kieselsteinen bis zum Reaktorunfall so ziemlich alles in bunten Lichtern und Piepstönen ausdrücken konnte. Etwa genauso funktional wie die Plastik-Tricorder ist die Softwareversion für das iPhone: Die Webseite bietet ein paar animierte Grafiken, ein paar Schaltflächen und das alles im Design der (neuen) Enterprise. Sound gibt es leider nicht dazu. Ab und zu öffnet sich ein Fenster mit einem mehr oder weniger witzigem Text.

Update: iPod shuffle Reset Utility für Windows
Bei Apple ist die neue Version 1.0.4 des iPod Reset Utility für Windows erhältlich. Die Aktualisierung dürfte lediglich kleine Fehlerbehebungen implementieren.
Das Reset Utility findet Anwendung bei folgenden Problemen:
Der iPod kann keine Musik wiedergeben und kann mit iTunes nicht wiederhergestellt werden.
Der iPod wird von iTunes nicht erkannt, wird aber im Arbeitsplatz oder im Geräte-Manager eines Windows PCs bzw. im Apple System Profiler eines Macintosh Computers angezeigt.
Der iPod shuffle (erste Generation) wird als Gerät im "Wartungszustand" erkannt. Der iPod shuffle (zweite Generation) wird als "USB-DFU-Gerät" erkannt.
Das Programm setzt dazu den iPod shuffle auf Werkseinstellungen zurück und löscht sämtliche Musiktitel und Daten auf dem Gerät.
