Study finds that we're all arrogant jerks, can probably fix its own damn iPod next time

That's the conclusion of a recent study conducted by Mindset Media and Nielsen Research, which evaluated the "mindsets" of 25,000 American adults and found that technology fans scored high on such traits as leadership, "dynamism" and assertiveness, but had low marks in modesty and could be perceived as arrogant and conceited by others. That's fine by us -- we're not going to turn down leadership for being well-liked, after all -- but we've got a feeling those survey results are going to change as soon as someone at Nielsen needs his or her printer drivers updated. The iPhone costs Apple only $100.-
Source : EETimesIt is a product at the center of all the attention, the iPhone 3G, which makes it the object of all criticisms and all attention.
The latest analysis is the estimate of the manufacturing costs of the device. It is estimated to be less than $100 compared to the $170 for the first offering.
The details of this estimate are not given, but one can suppose that since its initial release the price of the touchscreens, the most expensive part has significantly dropped, while the plastic back must allow the savings of a few cents compared to the aluminium back, and also that the price of the Flash memory has fallen.
By extrapolating this to the iPod Touch of which we speak in another news during the day, it could see its price quickly reducing, at least in the price of the entry level, since the cost of the chips memory falls the capacity is ever increasing cap

Probe finds one-third of people shot by Tasers need medical attention

Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid priced at $40,000

iTunes sells five billionth song
Apple today announced it has sold over five billion songs through iTunes, and repeated its claim to have become the biggest US music retailer, citing data from NPD Group.
The company added that its now seeing 50,000 movies purchased and/or rented each day, "making iTunes the world's most popular online movie store," the company added.
iTunes features movies from all of the major movie studios including 20th Century Fox, The Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), Lionsgate and New Line Cinema.
The iTunes Store now offers over eight million songs, over 20,000 TV episodes and over 2,000 films.

News: iTunes hits five billion songs sold
Apple has announced that the iTunes Store has now sold over five billion songs. In addition, it revealed that the store is now renting and selling more than 50,000 movies every day, making iTunes the world’s most popular online movie store. According to Apple, the store now offers a catalog of over eight million songs, over 20,000 TV episodes and over 2,000 films including over 350 in HD.

Nanosolar solar film rolls off the presses at 100 feet-per-minute

It looks like those curious to see just how Nanosolar turns out their solar panels for less than a dollar per watt need wonder no more, as the company has just posted a video that shows the thin film solar cells rolling off the presses at speedy 100 feet-per-minute. That's apparently possible thanks to what the company claims is the industry's first 1GW production tool, and its use of its own long-in-development nanoparticle ink, which eliminates the need for expensive high-vacuum chambers (though the printer still costs a hefty $1,65 million). Ask.com bietet ab sofort auf der Startseite seiner US-Website einen Link zu seiner Datenschutzrichtlinie. Die Nummer vier der Suchmaschinenbetreiber in den USA ist damit nach eigenen Angaben der erste Anbieter, der einer entsprechenden Forderung von Datenschützern nachgekommen ist. Stockholm erlaubt Totalüberwachung durch Geheimdienst

Im Rahmen des Rekordversuchs zum Release des aktuellen Firefox 3 hat Mozilla innerhalb von 24 Stunden weltweit über 8 Millionen Downloads verzeichnet. Erster Apple Store in Australien eröffnet
In der australischen Metropole Sydney hat Apple heute den insgesamt 215. Retail Store eröffnet. Remember the hoop-la concerning Microsoft's super customer-focused decision to end support for music purchased through the now-defunct MSN Music service?
Well, with the egg still spilling down its face following its seeming failed attempt to acquire Yahoo, Ballmer's boys have made yet another U-turn in their decision-making; they've decided to continue supporting MSN Music after all.
In April, Microsoft said MSN Music purchases could not be transferred to additional computers and devices as of August 31, 2008, as the company had elected to switch of the authorisation servers, to save cash, or something.

Telstra, Optus, Vodafone for Oz iPhone
When it comes to choosing a network, it looks like Australian iPhone users will be given the world's best choice - the device will be offered by three carriers in the country.
We knew Optus and Vodafone planned to offer the gadget, but news from down under now reports Telstra too is getting in on the iAction.
Telstra chief Sol Trujillo may make an announcement to this effect next week, according to local reports. That's significant, because Telstra is Australia's largest mobile network. In Deutschland kann die Gmail-URL nicht mehr aufgerufen werden. Denn Google darf aufgrund der Markenrechte von Daniel Giersch seinen E-Mail-Dienst in Deutschland nicht unter der Bezeichnung Gmail anbieten und vermarkten. AMD streicht 200 Stellen in Dresden
Wie die Sächsische Zeitung berichtet, hat AMD am Standort Dresden mehr als 200 Mitarbeiter entlassen. Einfach scheint sie ja zu sein, die Methode. Mithilfe des Jailbreak-Programms ZiPhone das iPhone mit Drittanbieteranwendungen auszustatten, ist offenbar selbst einem Höhlenmenschen möglich. Nur etwa fünf Stunden nach der Veröffentlichung hat die Zero Day Initiative von Tipping Point eine kritische Schwachstelle in Firefox 3 entdeckt und an Mozilla gemeldet. Sprint turning on WiMAX in Baltimore in September, Chicago and DC by end of year
