Namely, the Cool9500 brings the all-important gold trim, something we always felt was a major shortcoming of RIM's first stab at this form factor. There's also an all-important TV tuner -- another wild misstep in the original. Datel gets first stab at third party memory card for Xbox 360, supports microSD expansion
After ages of monopolizing most of its add-on market for the 360, it looks like Microsoft is letting up a bit. Datel just came out with two new MAX Memory cards that are compatible with the console, in 2GB and 4GB capacities. That's all well and boring, but the potential excitement here is that cards can also be augmented by a microSD slot, with support for up to 16GB cards, for some trippy card-within-a-card hijinks, and what might be one of the best portals for hackers yet. Mac OS X 10.5.7 bereits mit Veränderungen beim Multithreading?
Seit ein paar Tagen steht Mac OS X 10.5.7 zum Download bereit. Wie immer bei einer Aktualisierung, tauchen nach der ersten Installation positive und negative Dinge auf. Im aktuellen Update scheint Apple etwas an Lastenverteilung geändert haben, die den CPU-Kerne die zu erledigende Arbeit aufbrummt.

Keepin' it real fake, part CCVIII: Nokia E75 isn't a Nokia E75
Usually we see these Nokia knockoffs as Noklas or Mokias, but don't be fooled: there's nothing genuine about this E75. One tug on the side should prove that for you seeing how it doesn't appear to have the real deal's hallmark feature, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Then again, it does have flashing red and blue lights along the bezel, so it's pretty much an even trade.

Intel: Weiterer 10-Watt-Prozessor für Notebooks
Nachdem Ende März mit dem Core 2 Solo SU3500 ein sehr stromsparender aber auch teurer Prozessor in 45-nm-Fertigung vorgestellt wurde, der als Zielgruppe die Thin & Light-Notebooks hat, fehlte noch immer ein Zwischenmodell zum bereits länger verfügbaren Celeron M 723. Dieser Missstand soll bereits im Juni behoben werden.

Nur Apples eigenen iPhone-Applikationen ist es bislang erlaubt, im Hintergrund zu laufen. Drittentwickler können stattdessen künftig auf Apples Push-Benachrichtigungsdienst zurückgreifen, der mit iPhone OS 3.0 bereitstehen wird und den Nutzer über Neuigkeiten per Ton, Icon-Badge oder den SMS-artigen Hinweisdialog ereilt. Stupid netbook tricks: DIY microwave shield testing
So, we're guessing that at some point in your life you've wondered whether or not your microwave oven has sufficient shielding. Well, we certainly haven't -- but maybe we're the fools for trusting the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission. Then again, in Russia they don't even have a "United States Consumer Product Safety Commission" (for obvious reasons). Clearly, someone over there was nagged by the thought that this appliance was scattering radiation where it didn't belong, so he got this bright idea: as microwave ovens operate at 2.45 MHz, and 802.11d WiFi operates on a 2.4 GHz frequency, any netbook placed in a closed microwave should be woefully un-pingable.

Catalyst 9.5 behebt (teilweise?) PowerPlay-Bug
Grafikkartentreiber kommen des Öfteren mit dem einen oder anderen Bug daher, der meistens im nächsten Release behoben wird. Etwas widerspenstiger zeigt sich dagegen der PowerPlay-Bug in ATis Catalyst-Treiber, der bereits einmal verschwunden, doch dann wieder zurückgekehrt ist.

E8700 erneut aufgetaucht und übertaktet (Update)
Bereits Ende Januar war durch ein Versehen auf Intels Webseite der Core 2 Duo E8700 mit 3,5 GHz geführt worden. Es folgte damals umgehend ein Dementi zu diesem Modell, doch dies wäre nicht das erste Mal, dass man nur nach Außen hin den Schein wahren wollte.

T-Mobile: Datennetz bundesweit gestört
Seit den frühen Morgenstunden zeigt das Datennetz von T-Mobile zwar noch pflichtgemäß sein Vorhandensein an und eine EDGE- oder UMTS-Verbindung lässt sich zwar aufbauen, ins Internet gelangt man seit etlichen Stunden allerdings dennoch nicht. ASUS K Series K40IN-A1 laptop hits the US
We got a chance to check out ASUS' K Series laptops way back at CeBIT in March, but it looks like the understated line has just now finally made its way over here, and seen a few changes in the process. The biggest of those is that this particular model, the K40IN-A1, now packs some NVIDIA GeForce G102M graphics (with 512MB of RAM) in place of the previous ATI option, although we assume that'll still be available on some models if and when they join this one. How would you change Dell's Adamo?
Given the hideous MSRP affixed to the Adamo, we have all ideas that only a select few have chomped on what Dell's offering here. That said, we also reckon those with enough cash to buy in are quite the critical bunch, and we're interested to hear what y'all have to say. During our own testing, we were decidedly underwhelmed with the value proposition; in pretty much every meaningful way, it underperformed for the price. But hey, we can't knock the styling. Are you cool with the ho hum performance? Would you throw a different CPU in there? Lower the price? Add a little thickness in exchange for a few more frames per second? MobileMe not syncing iCal calendars properly
Occasionally people may find that their MobileMe calendar syncing will work on one of their devices but not another, even with all settings being the same. When a new user is created on the Mac that is exhibiting the issue, the iCal syncing works, but most users need a fix for their current user.

OS X 10.5.7 Server update problems similar to client
Administrators running Mac OS X 10.5 Server have found that since the recent update they have had boot loops and blue screen that requires a hard reset of the hardware, similar to those experienced since the update to the client version of the OS. Because of this, if you are running the server version and are interested in updating, we recommend you only do this when you have physical access to the computer. The hard reset seems to clear the restart hangs, and the OS will update properly afterward.

MobileMe e-mail Aliases not showing up in Mail on Mac
People have found that after creating a MobileMe e-mail alias online they are not able to use it on their local machine, despite having the option available online. The issue seems to be common among former .Mac members that switched to MobileMe, though the solution to this issue could may to other MobileMe members as well.

Issue: Spotlight not finding files?
These days, the "Finder" sometimes does not live up to its namesake, with the option to "find" things being taken over by Spotlight. When spotlight doesn't work properly, the Finder turns into "Locate if you can-er" and you're left traversing directory trees trying to find lost files.

Dashboard may prevent Web plug-in and other installations
Dashboard widgets are small, independent JavaScript code modules that are run separately from the standard JavaScript environment, which is the Web browser. In fact, you can open widgets in most browsers and have them function quite similarly to how they behave in Dashboard. As such, when you launch Dashboard, you're basically launching a Web browser environment that can use the same plug-ins that your browser uses. This also means that when you try to update some software that requires Web-based environments to be shut down (Adobe updates--Reader, Flash, and so on), the dashboard can prevent them from being installed.

New materials change color when stressed, making fans of mechanochemical transduction positively giddy
A U.S. Army-funded research project at the University of Illinois has developed a material that changes color when it is met with force or becomes overstressed. Among the examples trotted out in this month's issue of Nature are an elastomer that starts out the color of amber and turns progressively more orange as it's pulled, eventually turning red as it reaches its point of failure and snaps (see the photo on the right). Once relieved of stress, the material reverts to its original color -- and it can be used multiple times. Suggested uses for this technology include parachute cords, climbing ropes, coatings for bridges -- anything, really, that you'd want a heads-up on before imminent failure. Pretty wild, huh? [
