iPhone-Entwickler können jetzt Crash Reports anzeigen lassen
Bei der Entwicklung von iPhone-Programmen war es bislang immer recht schwierig, Fehlern auf den Grund zu gehen. Dem normalen Anwender war es zum Beispiel nicht möglich, einen Crash Report an den Entwickler zu schicken, damit dieser sofort die Absturzursache feststellen kann. Apple's iMac Firmware Update 1.4 fixes ATI issues
Apple today released an iMac Firmware Update 1.4 to resolve some outstanding issues with certain models freezing and another issue with Bootcamp, Apple's technology for allowing users to run Windows on Mac. Apple hat soeben über die Software-Aktualisierung ein Update herausgegeben, welches die Stabilität von iMacs (Early 2009) mit ATI Radeon HD 4850-Grafikkarte verbessern soll. Nutzer dieser Geräte wurden in unregelmäßigen Abständen von Abstürzen des gesamten Systems geplagt. Das 1,7 MB große Update setzt Mac OS X 10.5.6 voraus. iPod touch has a big month according to NetApplications
The iPod touch had a strong month outpacing its iPhone cousin in "marketshare gains according to NetApplications after being relatively flat since the holidays. It isn't certain what caused the spike but the iPod touch’s share in April jumped to 0.15%, a 36% increase.
The iPhone "only" gained 12% for the month coming in at .55%. That means the current total for touch devices from Apple are .7%, close to where Linux was a few months ago.
Linux and Google's Android were also big gainers, with Linux breaking the 1% barrier for the first time in history. Google's Android, which is technically a flavor of Linux, also showed solid growth, especially since it is only on one phone,

NASA's new e-nose can detect scent of cancerous brain cells
NASA's recently developed electronic nose, intended for air quality monitoring on Space Shuttle Endeavour and later the International Space Station, has a rather fortunate and unintended secondary role. In addition to being able to detect contaminants within about one to 10,000 parts per million, scientists have discovered it can also sniff out the difference in odor between normal and cancerous brain cells -- not a new use for e-noses, but certainly one that helps to advance the field. Internetnutzung auf iPhone und iPod touch nimmt zu
Erst kürzlich hat Apple die 1-Milliarde-Marke bei den App-Downloads geknackt, doch auch beim einfachen Surfen im Internet wird das iPhone und vor allem der iPod touch immer beliebter. Der internetfähige iPod legte im vergangenen halben Jahr bei den Web-Aufrufen um 300 Prozent zu, das iPhone immerhin um knapp 50 Prozent.

Apple vs. Psystar: Hält der Klon-Hersteller Informationen zurück?
Dass der Rechtsstreit zwischen Apple und dem Mac-Klon-Hersteller Psystar nicht einfach würde, stand seit Beginn der Auseinandersetzungen fest. Allerdings scheinen sich die Verhandlungen noch deutlich länger hinzuziehen als vermutet. Denn, so beklagt sich Apple nun vor Gericht, Psystar verweigert offenbar relevante Informationen und verhindert so die Aufklärung des vollständigen Sachverhalts, der eine Verhandlung vor Gericht erst ermöglichen kann.

Interesse an Netbooks soll 2010 wieder abnehmen
Netbooks liegen in der PC-Branche momentan im Trend. Sie sind kleiner als ein Notebook und größer als ein Mobiltelefon. Microsoft-Werbung Teil IV: Mac ist nichts für Künstler
Im Rundumschlag gegen Apple ist in Redmond offenbar noch lange nicht alles gesagt: So geht die aktuelle "Laptop-Jäger"-Werbkampagne bereits in die vierte Runde und zeigt diesmal die "Filmemacherin Sheila", die sich auf die Suche nach einem schnellen, kompakten Laptop für unter 2000 US-Dollar begibt. Podio speakered PMP for cyclists sure to cause accidents, impromptu dance parties
We've seen plenty of speaker / PMP combos around these part, but the Podio -- which looks kind of like a hairdryer to us -- is designed for the cyclist on-the-go who just can't bike without jamming to Green Day at a semi-loud volume. The Podio comes with a harness to attach it to the bike's handlebars, and boasts a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that gets somewhere between nine and twenty hours of use per charge. The whole thing weighs 139 grams, boasts 2GB of onboard storage, and has a 1.5 watt speaker to get the party started. Pages '09 exhibiting layout interface issues
Users of Apple's Pages '09 software are experiencing what may be a document layout bug. In the "Document" section of Pages' Inspector window, users have the option of viewing their document with "Facing Pages." When this option is checked, the standard, single-page view, changes to a side-by-side view. When this option is subsequently unchecked, the view fails to change back to the default, single-page view.

MobileMe mail temporarily experiencing issues
MobileMe Support has posted a bulletin warning customers that the MobileMe mail function is temporarily experiencing issues today, April 30th. The bulletin reads: "MobileMe members may experience delays sending and receiving messages using their MobileMe Mail address. Service will be restored ASAP. We apologize for any inconvenience." All other MobileMe services are reported to be functioning normally.

Apple Talk: Mac Price Drops?
When compared against similarly configured PCs, Apple's computers are competitively priced. However, in taking a step back and looking at PCs vs Macs as a whole, Macs are generally more expensive because Apple does not cut many of the corners PC manufacturers do (ie: selling fancy chips with cheap connectivity and casings). Screen flashing issues: Universal Access bug

Security from Malware and Intruders
If you turn on your computer's firewall, many times upon launching applications you will be prompted to either allow or deny that application access to the Internet. You may also wonder exactly why an application such as Microsoft Excel or Apple's Numbers would need Web access. In most cases these are for support features, such as help documentation, Microsoft's .NET, and the new iWork.com collaboration features from Apple, but there is no way of knowing that by the prompts the users gets.

Various Software Update problems
In one of our "MacFixIt Answers" articles and other recent postings, we addressed a few Software Update issues users were having when trying to update their software. We found that the problems might have been because of faulty receipt files that are generated for each installed update.
Faulty receipt files can cause an additional problem when software update appears to ignore the status of software installed on your system and either repeatedly installs updates or refuses to do so, claiming software is up to date when it isn't.

So here we were, thinking that the Nokia N86 8MP was just a featurebumped N85, and what happens? Businessweek's Peter Burrows is a bit late to the video iPhone news
Peter Burrows from Businessweek says (via MR) that video on the iPhone 3 is going to do for video what the original iPod did for mp3s. We say he's late to the party. We're not talking April 7th late either (that is when screengrabs showing the video interface were published). We're talking over a year late.
Cycorder and Qik have been on jailbroken iPhones for over a year and have offered up the video recording and broadcasting ability to the broad swath of iPhone users who've jaibroken their iPhones.. Even Ashton Kutcher has been taking videos on his iPhone.
Obviously, video recording will be much more popular on iPhone 3 b

ARM CEO hints at possible Windows 7 support for ARM processors
This could just be a case of a CEO letting his wishful thinking out into the open, but ARM's Warren East was apparently all too happy to talk about the possibility of Windows 7 supporting ARM processors during a recent analysts conference call, even if he wasn't quite ready to offer much of anything in the way of specifics. He did lay out the scenario pretty well, however, leading off by saying that "Microsoft will continue to play an important part in this [netbook] space," and that "if there was Windows support for the ARM processor today clearly it would be a very different marketplace." Mass Effect coming to iPhone and iPod touch
BioWare has announced that it is working on bringing its Mass Effect game to the iPhone and iPod touch. The game is based on the same Mass Effect universe featured in the Xbox 360 and Windows editions, although the story does not bridge Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2.
