Okoro debuts new rack-mountable RK Series media servers
Rack-mounted media servers aren't exactly for everybody, but those looking to really go all out with their home theater may want to consider one of Okoro's new RK Series models, which boast some base specs that are sure to make almost anyone a little envious. That includes an Intel Core i7 processor, an 80GB SSD OS drive, a minimum 2TB of additional storage, at least 6GB of RAM, a built-in Blu-ray drive, multiple CableCARD TV tuners, and full support for multi-zone audio controllable from a UMPC or MID, among other equally high-end specs. Panasonic developing 1080p twin-lens P2 camcorder for native 3D captures

Microsoft to deepen job cuts past 5,000?
Microsoft may extend its ongoing job cuts beyond the 5,000 positions already marked out, multiple sources said today. Video: Theremin-esque digital synth sure to get Brian Wilson up in arms
The theremin is just one of those instruments that nerds can't stop digging and modding. This newest iteration, the Squaremin, resembles the much-loved instrument in that you don't touch it to play it -- rather you move your hands about to control the octave and output of notes. The Squaremin was made using an ATmega168 chip, and boasts two infrared sensors to measure proximity -- one to control the note played, the other to control the octave which is played out of the front speaker of the instrument. Apple Q2 results forecast to top guidance, consensus
Scheduled to announce the details late Wednesday, Apple should do fairly well in its second fiscal quarter for 2009, argues Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu. 'Apple AV Cable' to launch with iPhone HD?
Phonenews has posted some welcome (if true - we're not so sure how legit this one is) information on upcoming iPod and iPhone AV cables. Until now, Apple has made its users buy expensive, specially-chipped cables if they wanted iPods and iPhones to connect to TVs. Because of this complication and cost, the cables haven't sold very well. We also hear that the new Zune will have HD out.

Flash enters the home
It really is interesting to see this web of companies all entering into each others territory. Google is building an OS to compete with Microsoft and Apple. Microsoft is making an iPod touch-like Zzzune.
Adobe today is announcing their foray into the home television market space (AppleTV and many others) with Flash for TV. Adobe said it expects the first available products with the new Flash runtime will likely be televisions shipped later this year.

Tweetie desktop client for Twitterers hits the mark
For those of you Twitterers who use Tweetie on iPhone, you know that atebits makes a solid product. We've been beta testing their Tweetie Mac desktop client for a week and we can confirm that it is a simple, solid product. It does what it is supposed to do then gets out of the way. We've been using Twitteriffic until now which has some other great features but are inclined to make the switch to Tweetie.
Tweetie for Mac Desktop is available now for $15 but they offer a free, ad supported version that is almost as nice. Download here.

Apple jumps 32 spots to Number 71 in Fortune 500
Apple hasn't been in the Fortune 100 since its revenue generating freefall in 1990's. It has been gaining steadily in the 2000's until the recession hit and knocked out a significant swath of competitiors. Today, it finds itself at #71, its second all time highest (it was #67 in 1994). Will we see Apple in the top 50 in 2010?

The idea is pretty simple but can you make it work? A lot of devices require always on-functionality. DIY geodesic media pod: forged from cardboard, filled with shame
While those with tens of thousands of dollars to burn can buy themselves a pre-built, space age media pod like the Ovei, the rest of us have to have to either make do with a comfy couch and a darkened room, or improvise, as one enterprising Instructables member did with this so-called Geodesic Media-Pod. AT&T on track for 7.2Mbps 3G, to skip 14.4

Sure, it's not the first 3D camera we've seen 'round these parts -- and it sure ain't the wackiest -- but it looks like CompoBank of South Korea is diving headlong into three dimensional imaging with the release of both a camera and a 7-inch digiframe, sometime in late 2009 or thereafter. Plantronics Voyager PRO gets purchased, unboxed early
Plantronics isn't planning to share intimate details about its Voyager PRO Bluetooth headset until April 23rd, but evidently its supply chain executives didn't exactly touch base with marketing before sending out stock to Best Buy. AT&T likely skipping 14.4Mbps, moving straight to HSPA+
While it puts the finishing touches on its nascent 7.2Mbps upgrades and starts certifying devices to use it, AT&T has revealed a juicy tidbit: that's probably the end of the line for old-guard HSPA on the country's largest GSM network. A Mac first - botnet is active
After the release of iWork '09 earlier this year, a Trojan was discovered circulating in pirated copies of Apple's productivity suite of applications (as well as pirated copies of Adobe's Photoshop CS4). Security professionals now believe that the botnet (from iServices) has become active. Although the potential damage range is projected to be minimal, an estimated 20,000 copies of the Trojan have been downloaded.

It's sort of funny that Toshiba's packing the Cell-based SpursEngine HD video co-processor into most of the Qosmio line when it still refuses to offer Blu-ray drives, but we guess some wounds just don't heal. For those of you Twitterers who use Tweetie on iPhone, you know that atebits makes a solid product. We've been beta testing their Tweetie Mac desktop client for a week and we can confirm that it is a simple, solid product. It does what it is supposed to do then gets out of the way. Belkin bringt angeblich weltweit kleinstes USB-Ladegerät
Belkin hat heute das nach eigenen Angaben kleinste USB-Ladegerät der Welt für den Einsatz im Auto vorgestellt. Der Adapter kann dazu genutzt werden, alle Geräte, die sich an ein USB-Kabel anschließen lassen, im Auto zu laden. Der neue USB-Charger ist ab sofort in zwei Varianten verfügbar. Apples US-Markanteile sinken doch nicht
Nachdem kürzlich noch gemeldet wurde, dass Apples Marktanteil in den USA leicht gesunken ist, scheint das Unternehmen aus Cupertino nun von sinkenden PC-Verkaufszahlen zu profitieren. So berichtet PCworld unter Berufung auf Zahlen des Marktforschungsinstituts IDC, dass trotz leicht gesunkener Verkaufszahlen bei den Macs Apples Marktanteil sogar leicht von 7.4 auf 7.6 Prozent gestiegen ist.

Forrester Research hat in Studien die allgemeine Zufriedenheit von Kunden in Bezug auf Computersteller erforscht. Demnach liegt Apple mit 80% noch weit vor Gateway (66%), HP (64%) und Compaq (63%). United Internet steigert Umsatz und Vorsteuergewinn
United Internet hat seine Geschäftszahlen nach IFRS für das erste Quartal 2009 vorgelegt. Flash enters the home
It really is interesting to see this web of companies all entering into each others territory. Google is building an OS to counter Adobe and Apple. Microsoft is making an iPod touch. Adobe today is announcing their foray into the home television market space (AppleTV and many others) with Flash for TV. Adobe said it expects the first available products with the new Flash runtime will likely be televisions shipped later this year.
Hardware and chip partners for the project include Broadcom, Intel, NXP Semiconductors, Sigma Designs and STMicroelectronics. Distribution partners include Comcast, Disney Interactive, Netflix, New York Times Co. and Atlantic Records.

Six SSD in a Mac Pro
Barefeats performed a rather unusual test comparing the Mac Pro 2008 and 2009 with a RAID 0 volume composed on SSD units (2, 3, 4 and 6 drives). They used the SLC chips-based X-25E SSD, offering high performance level with a associated high price tag. All drive are however only offering 32 GB of storage space.
From those data, one can conclude:

According to Ben Lorica from O'Reilly, "Books as Apps" is the fastest growing segment of application developement in the App store. Here's what's happening: Instead of just selling an eBook through Amazon and the other online distributors, Publishers (with help from developers like Scrollmotion) are creating their own app out of a book. Microsoft Windows 7 Starter for Netbooks to only allow 3 concurrent applications?
The Wall St. Journal had this one today:
Microsoft Corp. is taking an unusual approach with its new Windows 7 operating system: Customers buying many of the least-expensive laptops[netbooks] with the software are likely to be limited to running three applications at a time and miss out on other key features, or pay for an upgrade.
Holy Fail-Whale Batman! Netbooks are the hottest item today in the Windows world, accounting for any and all growth in the PC sector. By and large, they run Windows XP (which is actually not bad after using Vista for a few minutes). According to the WSJ, Microsoft is only making $15 off of each copy of XP being put on those Netbooks.

New 'Get a Mac' ads don't acknowledge 'PC Hunter' talking points
Goog for Apple, we were worried that Apple would somehow try to respond to the PC Hunter advertising by switching message. They didn't. Apple's App Store filling up with Books?
According to Ben Lorica from O'Reilly, "Books as Apps" is the fastest growing segment of application developement in the App store. Here's whats happening: Instead of just selling an eBook through Amazon and the other online distributors, Publishers (with help from developers like Scrollmotion) are creating their own app out of a book. They can then sell the app with all of the freedom that Apple has allowed its other developers. Enicycle, the electric unicycle, gets ridden on video
While the Enicycle may look eerily similar to Focus Design's SBU unicycle, it's decidedly different when looking at the nuts and bolts of things. As of now, just two of these devices exist in the entire world, and one Ortis Deley was able to scoot over to Italy in order to give one of them a ride.
