XO Generation 1.5 promises some beefed up internals while we wait for XO-2 to change everything

We're pretty stoked to see that upcoming dual-screen sequel to the XO, OLPC's promised XO-2. Until then, OLPC is sprucing up the insides of its current design with a new VIA C7-M processor that can be clocked between 400MHz and 1GHz depending on the task at hand. Alongside the new processor the "Generation 1.5" model will sport a hot new VX855 chipset that can handle 3D graphics, HD video, and general management duties, and should be able to do it with a smaller footprint and less power consumption. Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption, out now for MSDN / TechNet subscribers

It's not as good as gold, but according to Microsoft's Partner Program website, Windows 7's release candidate is due out to the masses on May 5, a bit earlier than the BBC report had previously noted. MSDN and TechNet subscribers can apparently download the new build now, although Ars Technica is reporting it may not be up just yet. Water Sensor in iPhone/iPod not Reliable?

As you probably know it now, Apple has integrated several water/humidity sensors in its iPod, iPhone and even MacBook models. It gives Apple certified technical supports a way to check if the damaged or defective devices have been dropped into water and consequently not working anymore, as this is not cover by the warranty. It would be great in a perfect world if several reports were not questioning the reliability of those sensors, hereafter is one of them: I sent my iPhone for being repairs as I could not receive not emit any call while SMS, data, GPS a,d gravity sensors were all working fine. According to some searches on the web, it seems that it is a rather common problem. All reset procedures have bee tried unsuccessfully before. Selten werden die Kämpfe um Internet-Piraterie medienwirksam im Gerichtssaal ausgetragen. Die Betreiber der Webseite Pirate Bay jedoch mussten sich seit Februar dieses Jahres vor einem schwedischen Gericht verantworten. "Wie zum Teufel kommen die Kläger darauf, dass sie nicht haushoch verlieren werden?" hatte einer der Webseiten-Gründer noch zu Anfang des Prozesses gefragt. Verloren haben sie nun selber: Haft und Schadensersatz ordnete der Richter im Urteil an.

Die neu vorgestellte Generation der "Alpine Media Receiver" (gemeint sind Autoradios) trägt jetzt neben dem Made for iPod-Logo auch die Apple-Zertifizierung "Works with iPhone". Die Geräte iDA-X305 und iDA-X303 sind für einfache DIN-Einbauschächte ausgelegt und erlauben den Anschluss von iPhone und iPod über USB. Bedient werden die Geräte wie bereits das iDA-X101 über einen Drehknopf an der Front. Leyio's UWB-touting personal sharing device unboxed, handled on video

We first caught a glimpse of Leyio's Ultra-wideband-pushing personal sharing device back in January, and while UWB is still teetering near mostly dead and slightly alive, Le Journal du Geek has acquired a pair for some fun unboxing action and video hands-on accompanied by lovely French narrative. The reviewer predicts most people will be discouraged by the 179 euro (US $233) price tag, and with wireless filesharing here limited pretty much to just other Leyios at the moment, we can't say we disagree. How would you change HP's Mini 1000 Mi?

Judging by recent PC shipment reports, HP's had a pretty good run in Q1, and we fully suspect that a good chunk of those sales are in the netbook category. The outfit's Mini 1000 Mi was highly anticipated and chock full of promise, though we're not totally convinced the whole Mi interface lived up to the mile-high hype. Pirate Bay founders get book thrown at them...

In a bad week for pirates of all sorts, the Pirate Bay’s four founders were found guilty of helping consumers illegally download online music and films, handing the entertainment industry a victory in the battle to protect copyrighted material in Sweden.  The penalty?  One year in (Swedish) jail and $3.5 million in fines.  While they probably make the money in a month of ad revenue, the year in jail is a big signal to torrent sites out there, that there are consequences to their actions. We're not exactly sure why they got in trouble from a legal perspective because they didn't host the files that were illegal, they just pointed to them.  Sites like Google, Microsoft Live Search and Yahoo do this as well.  Chalk one up for t
