Analyst foresees PS3 gaining momentum, Xbox 360 price cut at E3

Things have been relatively quiet on the Xbox 360 price-cut front as of late, but EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich has now thankfully come through and stirred the pot a bit, saying that he thinks Microsoft is set to make an announcement about a price cut at E3 this July. That, he says, would be in response to the PlayStation 3's steady growth, which he expects to continue to out pace the 360, aided in no small part by exclusive titles like Metal Gear Solid 4. We heard that Pal Technology's REEM-B would be "fully revealed in Q1 2008," and while things seem to be running ever-so-slightly behind, we can't gripe too much. Genepax shows off water-powered fuel cell vehicle

The main optimization Apple describes as a target for Snow Leopard is Grand Central, a technology it says will make all of OS X multi-core aware and optimize it for allocating tasks across multiple cores and processors. Apple also says Grand Central will make it easier for OS X software developers to create programs that make the most of multi-core platforms.

ASUS LS221H: "world's slimmest" 22-inch LCD monitor

Symbian erwartet Aufspaltung der Android-Plattform
In seiner Rede auf der Konferenz Handsets World in Berlin hat David Wood, Forschungsleiter von Symbian, Googles auf Linux basierende Handy-Plattform Android kritisiert. The new Copyright Act in Canada will allow Canadians to copy legally acquired music to their iPods and computers but ban them from circumventing DRM on other media.
The act also exempts ISPs from liability for copyright violations by their subscribers, but does demand they send letters from rights-holders to file-sharers warning them against their actions.
Canadians will also be permitted to record TV and radio shows for later viewing - but forbids them keeping a personal library of such shows.
The bill also reduces Canadians' individual liability to C$500 from a maximum of C$20,000 for making illegal copies of music or movies for private use.
However, a huge C$20,000 fine can be made against users who hack their ay past DRM or other digital locks, and against those making music or other media available through file-sharing servic

Es ging heute sogar schon durch die TV-Nachrichten des öffentlich-rechtlichen Fernsehens: Die geplante Übernahme des bekannten Suchmaschinenanbieters Yahoo! durch Microsoft ist endgültig gescheitert. Die ITK-Branche fordert Beschränkungen für Internetangebote der öffentlich-rechtlichen Sender, die über das hinausgehen, was die Ministerpräsidenten am 12. Juni 2008 verabredet haben. T-Mobile bringt iPhone nach Osteuropa
Mit dem iPhone 3G wird Apple sein Mobiltelefon in weiteren Ländern auf den Markt bringen. Noch in diesem Jahr soll die Anzahl, in denen das iPhone zu haben ist, auf ganze 70 steigen. In vielen Ländern, darunter auch Deutschland, Frankreich, die USA und Großbritannien, ist das neue Gerät am 11. Juli zu erwerben. T-Mobile konnte seine Beziehungen spielen lassen und wird mit dem Verkauf des iPhones auch in vielen osteuropäischen Ländern beginnen.

USB 3.0: Intel's Answer Comes from its Blog
It is via its official blog that Intel decided to answer criticisms about its delay in releasing USB 3.0 host controller specifications.
As we mentioned it previously, the USB 3.0 specification is defined by the USB 3.0 Promoter Group (including HP, Intel, MSFT, NEC, NXP, and TI). since November 2007, 180 USB 3.0 contributors, among them AMD and NVidia, have joined the USB 3.0 Promoter Group to help finalizing the USB 3.0 specification.

PCI SIG Unveiled Details about Express 3.0

As usual, this new evolution will double transfer speed to 500 Mo/s per lane, so a 16x channel PCI Express 3.0 could deliver up to 8 GB/s. In order to think of the growing requirement of energy of our graphic cards, the new specification will allow 300-watt power supply while providing three-slot of dedicated space for giving enough room to install huge cooling system on those hot GPU.
PCI Express 3.0 will be backwards-compatible with PCI Express 2.0 as the connector will remain the same, only the electrical specifications should be different. The first motherboard to feature such PCIe 3.0 slot should hit the market in H2 2010.

Polaroid Is Back

Physics Engines: AMD Prefers Intel to NVidia
One of the future developments for 3D game rendering should be the use of physics engines in order to provide an even more realistic experience. At the beginning, small start-up have developed new technology and dedicated rendering engines, but they have been rapidly acquired by larger companies, such as PhysX now belonging to NVidia, while Havok is now own by Intel which aims to include it in its Larrabee project. AMD recently decided to adopt Intel's Havok too. Of course such collaboration between both CPU founders will lead to mutual benefits. AMD gets something to work on, it marginalizes NVidias solutions, while providing a new tool for Intel for negotiating about SLI licensing and other on-going disputes.

Analysten: 2008 ist das Wachstumsjahr für Notebooks
Nach Ansicht von IDC wird 2008 zu einem Wachstumsjahr für tragbare Computer. Die Verkaufszahlen für Laptops werden demnach um 34,5 Prozent gegenüber dem Vorjahr steigen. We got a nice helping of slides dropped on our virtual doorstep this evening, fleshing out Dell's upcoming netbook -- which they seem to be calling the "Dell E." Um, Eeenteresting name choice, but that doesn't seem set in stone, and there's plenty else going on here to ponder over. Dell's breaking the Dell E into two device types, a 8.9-inch model clearly meant to take on the Eee 900, and the 12.1-inch "E Slim" which actually looks positioned to take on the MacBook Air and X300, at a mere 0.8-inches thick, though perhaps in a lower-end capacity. The P5260i features 802.11b/g WiFi and can theoretically support HD streaming of MPEG1/2/4, WMV, AVI, DivX, XviD, ASF and VOD files. G-Tec's thought control hat has been out there making people look silly for some time now, but a group of researchers at Goldsmiths, University of London have now put it to a somewhat more unique (but equally silly-looking) use.
