Sony confirms ten free game offer for UK PSP Go buyers, North America gets less awesome deal
Well, we've got some good news and some less good news for potential PSP Go owners. The good news is that Sony has now officially announced the ten free game offer for PSP Go buyers in the UK, which is just as we had heard and is available in quite a few countries besides the UK as well (hit up the link below for the complete list). Not among those, however, is the United States or Canada, which is where the less good news comes in. AT&T stores may need new display for next iPhone
AT&T is reworking its displays to accommodate the new iPhone, a source said Tuesday. Engineers are reportedly visiting AT&T-owned stores to build a previously unseen "large" display. The BGR contact presumed it would be for an iPhone as no other phone would need the materials devoted to the presentation.

Google: Android fragmentation 'is a boogeyman, a red herring'
Google's Dan Morrill, open source and compatibility program manager in the Android team, just penned a lengthy diatribe against the very concept of fragmentation on the official Android Developers Blog, basically saying it doesn't exist. Actually, the language is a little more colorful:
"Because it means everything, it actually means nothing, so the term is useless. Stories on 'fragmentation' are dramatic and they drive traffic to pundits' blogs, but they have little to do with reality. 'Fragmentation' is a bogeyman [sic], a red herring, a story you tell to frighten junior developers. Yawn."

iPhone grew more than Android in May
Filed under: iPhoneAt least that's the word from Net Applications, the company that measures visits to clients websites. The latest report says the iPhone not only keeps a large lead over Android, but it actually enlarged its global share last month, going from 30.4% to 32.8 %. At the same time, Android increased from 5.3% to 6.2%.

iPhone OS 4 Beta 4 beinhaltet Taschenlampenfunktion
Im Blog Macstories.net wurde ein Video eines iPhone 3GS mit der aktuellen Beta des kommenden iPhone OS 4 veröffentlicht. Das Video zeigt die Möglichkeit aus dem Lockscreen heraus den Bildschirm in hellem weiß erstrahlen zu lassen und das iPhone so als Taschenlampe zu nutzen. Ob dies ein Bug oder ein bisher unerwähntes Feature ist, ist derzeit unbekannt. Eine schöne Möglichkeit im Dunkeln schnell Licht zu bekommen ist es auf jeden Fall. iPad sales to slow going into Sept. quarter, analyst claims
Even though Apple has already surpassed 2 million iPads, sales should slow somewhat in the next quarter, says Needham & Co. analyst Charlie Wolf. For the present June quarter, Wolf is raising his shipping estimate from 1.5 to 2.5 million units. For the September quarter, however, Wolf is only upgrading his forecast from a million to 1.5 million tablets.

Is Sony developing PlayTV2? And will we get to play in the states?
Sure, it's only one word in a long and involved interview, but according to Sony Cambridge Studio's Mark Green (who's been talking shop with Spong) it seems that a little something called PlayTV2 is in the works. "We're still working on PlayTV, PlayTV 2," he says, while the shop has "other guys working on other concepts." And while that's all well and good, but is there any chance that the digital tuner / DVR for PS3 might make it to the states some time soon? To be honest, we're beginning to lose interest.

iPhone Dev Team: SIM-Unlock für OS 4.0 kommt
Das weltweit recht bekannte iPhone Dev Team gab in einer heute Vormittag geposteten Twittermeldung bekannt, dass es in Kürze eine Software für den SIM-Unlock auf iPhone OS 4.0 geben wird. Die Wahl des Tarifes wäre damit auf iPhone und iPad also frei.

MSI robot vacuums invade Computex, set sights on Roomba
We don't have a ton of details on these just yet, but MSI has rolled into Computex with something of a surprise: a new line of robot vacuums. As you can see, they look remarkably similar to iRobot's Roomba vacuums, and they apparently come in three different versions: the standard M800 Smart Vacuum Robot, the R500 Slim Vacuum Robot, and the R1300 Security Vacuum Robot, the latter of which adds a camera and internet connectivity for some low-level surveillance. No word on pricing or availability just yet either, but MSI has at least kindly put together a wonderfully soothing promotional video. Check it out after the break.

Next-gen iPhone frames show again in Portugal
The 2010 iPhone release may have been cemented further courtesy of a hands-on (currently down) with the bare frame of the Apple device. Two examples of the aluminum frame and some inner components have shown at iPhone Portugal that exactly match the numerous leaked examples online. The pair are identical and reportedly "perfect" in construction, which the Portugese believe supports notions that the shell is authentic and not a clone.

Rumor: Apple paying Foxconn workers directly

After all of the trouble last week at Foxconn, the Chinese factory suffering from worker suicides, rumor has it that Apple is stepping up to increase wages at the plant by paying workers directly. NVIDIA CEO says Android is an OS to 'unite behind,' will be better tailored to tablets this Fall
Microsoft's Steve Guggenheimer may think that Android on tablets is still just an experiment, but it looks like NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang would beg to differ. Microsoft exec: Android will lose tablet war
Android won't overtake Windows in the tablet arena, Microsoft corporate VP Steve Guggenheimer claimed at Computex today. He was convinced Windows would have more traction as, despite the sheer number of Android tablets at the trade show, the market was still too young for any positions to be settled down. Apple patent proposes displays with solar cells
Apple has been considering hiding solar collectors within some of its handhelds, a recent patent application suggests. Described in the document is a way of weaving solar cells into a display, thereby keeping them off of a device's outside surfaces and still allowing easy reach by light. A fresh teardown of the HTC Evo 4G by iFixit has revealed some of its inner workings and also given it an unfavorable comparison to the iPhone. Thanks to its 4.3-inch screen and 4G, Sprint's Android flagship needs a 23 percent larger battery than the iPhone 3GS just to get similar battery life to its smaller rival. Analysts boost forecasts following 2M iPad sales milestone
Several analysts have made changes to their Apple estimates in the wake of an Apple announcement on Monday, declaring that the company had sold over 2 million iPads. UBS is raising its price target for Apple stock from $315 to $320, with the expectation that the company will now sell between 2.8 and 3 million iPads by the end of the June quarter. Also helping during this period are said to be updated MacBook Pros. Q3 revenue and EPS estimates have been changed from $13.6 billion and $2.86, to $14.5 billion and $2.97.

Intel intros dual-core Atom, tablet-ready Oak Trail
Intel used its opportunity at the Computex show to provide a major upgrade to the Atom platform, starting with its first dual-core mobile Atom processors. The 1.6GHz N455 and 1.83GHz N475 have similar clock speeds to their ancestors but are much faster for netbooks or other portables with an OS that supports multiple cores. They don't use significantly more power than single-core Atoms, however, and could give an immediate speed boost without necessarily hurting battery life.

iPhone claws web share back from Android
New updates from Net Applications today show that the iPhone may be overtaking Android in actual use online. Despite talk of the gap closing in April, Apple's phone grew faster in May as it jumped from 30.3 percent the month before to 32.8 percent of the mobile web. Android expanded at the same time, but it moved from 5.3 percent to just 6.2 percent.

So, despite all that hubbub about Flash, Adobe managed to still deliver iPad magazine publishing tools to Wired after all and it's not stopping there. Adobe's "digital viewer software" is the crux, which Adobe says it built in Apple's Objective C and will continue to maintain for the iPad while considering other platforms like the iPhone. We've been hearing about / poking fun of ITG's xpPhone since June of last year, but amazingly enough, we'd yet to actually see one in the flesh until today. Slyly stuck in the back corner of Microsoft's Computex booth were a trio of xpPhones, at least one of which was shockingly functional. As the story goes, the company has decided to axe Windows XP in favor of a much more lightweight version of WinXP Embedded, and responsiveness seemed suitable enough given the circumstances. iTunes aus der "Cloud" und andere WWDC-Gerüchte
Die Präsentation der neuen iPhone-Generation im Rahmen der Apple-Entwicklerkonferenz WWDC nächsten Montag gilt ja bereits als sicher. Fragt sich also nur, ob und wenn ja welche sonstigen Neuerungen Apple-Boss Steve Jobs bei seiner Eröffnungsrede noch aus dem Ärmel schüttelt.

Panasonic added a new relatively high-end compact Lumix camera on Tuesday. The FX75 is sharp at 14 megapixels but revolves around its stabilized lens, which with an maximum f2.2 aperture and a 24-120mm equivalent zoom is both bright enough for lower-light scenes and wide enough for landscapes and similar shots. IE6 drops below 5% share in US as Chrome rises
Internet Explorer 6 has finally dropped to less than 5 percent share in the US, new data from StatCounter shows. The browser from 2001 has sunk to just over 4.7 percent in May. It accompanies an even faster decline from IE7, which dropped most of a point to 16.6 percent; only IE8 gained share among Microsoft's browsers, crossing the 30 percent mark for the first time to reach 30.5 percent of use.

Protect your browser from "tabnabbing"

Aza Raskin, lead designer for Firefox, created a page that illustrates this. If you click on that link and then ignore it for awhile (create and switch to another tab), Aza's page will turn into a lookalike for Gmail.

Bei einer BookExpo America Konferenz haben sich die amerikanischen Ebook-Verlage darüber beklagt, dass Amazon und Apple mit dem Kindle und dem iPad geschlossene Formate haben, sie aber gern ein universales, für alle verfügbares Format möchten. Eigentlich gibt es das ja schon: EPUB ist da, und DRM-Optionen hat es eigentlich auch, wäre eigentlich kein so großes Problem, sich zumindest unter den Verlagen darauf zu einigen. Vielleicht sind die den Verlagen aber nicht restriktiv genug? Wäre doch eigentlich eine sinnvolle Lösung

We're obviously well aware of what's coming up from Intel, but today at Computex Chipzilla demoed its upcoming Sandy Bridge platform for the first time. The demo was quite brief, but showed off the power of the future Intel integrated graphics with a side by side comparison with a discrete graphics system. Notebook mit GeForce GTX 400M abgelichtet

Qualcomm raised the ante in smartphone processors this morning in shipping samples of the first dual-core Snapdragon chips. The 1.2GHz MSM8260 (for HSPA+ 3G) and MSM8660 (for EVDO Rev B) are already faster for normal tasks but thrive with a multithreaded OS and apps. They should be some of the first to let smartphones dedicate a processor to a background task and could make multitasking near seamless with Android and other platforms.

Computex: Intel demonstriert Moorestown-Tablet mit MeeGo

Intel hat auf der Computex in Taipeh vorgeführt, wie sich sein Moorestown-Prozessor in einem Tablet macht, das unter MeeGo läuft und unsere neugierigen US-Kollegen hatten sogar Gelegenheit, das Redvale-Tablet von Quanta selbst in die Hände zu nehmen. Fazit: MeeGo kann auch als fast-fertige Version richtig beeindrucken, die Tablet-Version scheint demnach im Vergleich zur Netbook-Version sinnvoll den Multitouch-Gegebenheiten angepasst und der Moorestown-Prozessor mit 1,5 GHz macht das Hantieren und Navigieren geschmeidig und verblüffend flott. Womit als einziger Negativpunkt zu bemerken bleibt, dass Tablets mit vergleichbarer Ausstattung erst Anfang 2011 zu erwarten sind. Das

Zugriffsschutz des iPhone 3GS lässt sich auch unter Windows umgehen
Bereits vor einigen Tagen hatten wir berichtet, dass man über eine USB-Verbindung selbst dann auf die iPhone-Daten zugreifen kann, wenn das Gerät mit einer PIN geschützt ist und noch nie an den Computer angeschlossen wurde. Hitachi claimed a lead in mobile hard drives today by rolling out some of the most advanced 7mm (0.28in) drives to date. The Travelstar Z7K320 leads the way and is the first 7,200RPM disk in the ultra-thin size: it can provide near desktop-level performance but opens the door to thinner notebooks. It's kinda hard trying to keep up with the litany of models in Panasonic's Lumix family, though placing this one near the top of the point-and-shoot pile shouldn't be so difficult. It's equipped with a 14.1 megapixel sensor, a wide-angle F2.2 lens with 5x optical zoom, and the now obligatory HD video (we presume 720p) recording and intelligent picture processing options. A 3-inch touchscreen hogs the majority of controls on the back, including a neat touch-to-focus function that we think all these little shooters should have, which is augmented by the camera's AF tracking a subject once selected. Intel baut ExaCluster-Labor in Jülich

Places, die Geotagging-Funktion aus iPhoto, wird auch im iPhone OS 4 enthalten sein. Bis zur aktuellsten Entwicklerversion funktionierte Places allerdings nicht – nun kann man es verwenden, sofern man die Beta 4 besitzt.

Ziemliche Sensation sollte man meinen: Apple lässt im App Store eine App durchrutschen, die iPad, iPhone und iPod Touch in die Lage versetzt, Flashinhalte und Java darzustellen und mit den typischen Wisch- und Pinchgesten zu navigieren. Dabei werden die angesurften Inhalte allerdings auf einem externen Grossrechner mit Firefox geladen, der sie dann auf dem iPad darstellt. Pakistanisches Gericht hebt Facebook-Sperre auf
Der Oberste Gerichtshof in Lahore hat die pakistanische Regierung angewiesen, die am 19. Mai gegen Facebook verhängte Sperre wieder aufzuheben. Globalfoundries erweitert Fertigungskapazitäten
Globalfoundries hat heute die Erweiterung der Fertigungskapazitäten am Standort Dresden und in Malta im US-Bundesstaat New York angekündigt. Interessante Zahlen über die Anteile Download-Verkäufe an den Single- und Album-Charts liefert Media Control: 99% der Single-Charts sollen demnach auf Downloads zurückzuführen sein. Somit stellen sich fast die ganzen Schweizer Single-Charts nurmehr aus Downloads zusammen. Platzhirsche im Schweizer Online Musik Geschäft sind der iTunes Store von Apple und der Download-Shop der Migros-Tochter exlibris. Daraus lässt sich schliessen, dass kaum mehr Singles auf CDs oder anderen, physischen Medien verkauft werden. Bei den Album-Charts sieht es etwas anders aus, hier haben die Download-Verkäufe in der Schweiz nur einen Anteil von 14 Prozent. Wie heise.de meldet, bezieht sich das Unternehmen für diese Forschung nach eigenen Angaben auf Stichproben auf repräsentativer Basis aus dem laufenden Jahr. In Deutschland liegt der Single-Download-Anteil bei 85 Prozent, die Alben bei 21 Prozent. In Frankreich haben sowohl Singles als auch Alben einen Anteil von 89 Prozent. Rund 10.000 neue Nutzer könnte Mac OS X bald bekommen. Nach Angaben der Financial Times möchte der Internetriese Google seine Belegschaft von Windows zu Mac switchen lassen. Wie die Financial Times berichtet, switcht Google von Windows zu Mac OS X und Linux, der Grund für diesen Schrift: die Sicherheit. Mehrere Google-Angestellte haben dies beteuert: «Wir machen nichts mehr mit Windows.» Es sei nur noch ein grosser Aufwand für die Sicherheit. Seitdem Google Opfer von chinesischen Hackern wurde, seien bereits viele Angestellte auf Mac OS X und Linux-Systeme gewechselt, wie 9 to 5 Mac berichtet sollen im Google-Office in New York bereits seit längerem fast nur noch Macs stehen — etwas anders sieht es derzeit noch im europäischen Google-Hauptquartier in Zürich aus, dort sind PCs den Macs in der Anzahl noch weit überlegen.
Personen die neu eingestellt werden, sollen mittlerweile wählen können zwischen einem Mac oder einem PC mit einem Linux-System. Inwiefern diese Policy auch international angewendet wird, ist nicht bekannt. Intel's just released its Computex press release, which beyond detailing its new Oak Trail and Canoe Lake platforms, reveals that Acer is about to take a bite out of MeeGo. Intel 'Oak Trail' is headed for tablets in early 2011
Intel's been quite forthcoming over the past few weeks about its intentions to play in the booming tablet market, and apparently Oak Trail's going to be its ticket. Motorola XT502 another Android phone for North America?
There's no shortage of Motorola buzz going around lately -- thing is, nearly all of that buzz is focused on the Verizon side of the camp. What about the other six-odd national carriers in the States and Canada, five of which are using GSM? Google staff dropping Windows for Macs, Linux PCs
Google is abandoning the use of Windows by its staff as it's too much of a security threat, multiple staffers said Monday night. Recent concerns about Chinese hacks have the search firm requiring either a Mac or Linux for all new recruits to provide better security. Those who want Windows now often require explicit approval from executives and may not have any choice on desktops where it's only an option for notebooks.

Google to employees: "Mac or Linux, but no more Windows"
Filed under: SecurityWe first heard rumors of this policy change a couple of months ago, but now it's made the papers: the Financial Times is reporting that Google is phasing out the use of Windows internally, as employees are migrated to either Linux or Mac OS X on machine turnovers or new hires. The policy change was precipitated in large part by the security breach attributed to Chinese hackers; Google's IT leaders apparently feel that Microsoft's OS represents too great a risk across the enterprise to leave it in place.

Good news / bad news, folks. First with the smiles: PlayStation 3's first 3D-enabling updates are due out on June 10th for downloadable titles Super Stardust HD, WipEout HD, and Pain.
