HP and Yahoo team up to deliver targeted ads... to printers
Seriously. To be specific, the two companies are working on delivering targeted ads to HP's web-connected printers, and the ads would apparently only show up when you use HP's "scheduled delivery" service to have portions of a newspaper or magazine printed every morning. To make those ads as targeted as possible, HP says the printers would also employ IP sniffing to help pin down your location, and the company says that the ads could also be targeted based on "user's behavior as well as the content" -- although it's quick to point out that everything must be done with privacy in

Analysts call for up to 9.5 million iPhones in June quarter
Apple could sell as many as 9.5 million iPhones in the June quarter, claims Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. The new estimate is a major increase over an earlier one, raised by a million units. Part of the reasoning for the change stems from iPhone 4 upgrades; Munster argues that of the 8.4 million iPhones activated at AT&T between September 2008 and June 2009, all of them should now be eligible for the carrier's early upgrade program.

iPhone 4: Apple kann Nachfrage kaum bedienen
Erstlieferung bereits ausverkauft: Seit Dienstag 10 Uhr lässt sich das neue iPhone bei der Deutschen Telekom vorbestellen. Allerdings war der Ansturm am ersten Tag so gross, dass die speziell eingerichtete Internetseite zeitweise nicht mehr erreichbar war. Dennoch gelang es offensichtlich unerwartet vielen Kunden, ihre Order zu platzieren - so viele, dass die Telekom den Termin der Erstauslieferung verschieben muste: „Aufgrund der hohen Nachfrage verzögert sich die Auslieferung bis Juli" gab das Unternehmen heute bekannt.

iTunes 9.2 is out, ready to hook up with your iPhone 4

iTunes 9.2 steht ab sofort zum Download bereit. Das rund 122 MB große Update kann man über die Softwareaktualisierung oder direkt bei Apple herunterladen.

YouTube quietly adds basic video editing
Without any fanfare, YouTube has quietly added a video editor to its site. The rudimentary tool lets users stitch together videos using clips already posted on the site to create a new video. Transitions and other features are missing, but movie makers can add a soundtrack with music from AudioSwap's library of both famous and independent songs.

Apple posts iTunes 9.2 with iPhone 4, iBooks 1.1 support
Apple finished the afternoon by posting iTunes 9.2 (102MB). The update gives expected support for iPhone 4 and also enables syncing books and PDFs to iPhones and iPod touch players with the yet-to-come iBooks 1.1 app. Backups should also be faster with any iPhone or iPod touch using iOS 4.

Original iPhone owners can also keep their unlimited data with iPhone 4

Original iPhone users have been paying $20/month for unlimited 2G data and 200 text messages per month. Since AT&T is no longer offering new unlimited plans, I assumed that I would not be able to keep the unlimited data option when we upgraded my wife's original iPhone. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I upgraded her phone today and was presented with the option of keeping an unlimited data plan for $30/month.

Altek's Leo in the wild: point and shoot, Android phone, or both?
As cameraphone picture quality goes, the story is that it's not really about the sensor resolution, it's about the optics -- and if you want to go by that rule, Altek's beastly Leo should probably have your attention. Das für Entwickler kurz nach der WWDC-Keynote veröffentlichte iTunes 9.2, das für die Synchronisation mit iOS4 Geräten nötig ist, ist ab jetzt auch für alle anderen Anwender verfügbar. Über die Softwareaktualisierung kann die neue Version heruntergeladen werden. Mit dem neuen iTunes 9.2 lassen sich zusätzlich pdfs als eBooks an die iBooks App 1.1 senden. Außerdem wurde die Musikbibliothek um Fehler reduziert und beschleunigt. iTunes 9.2 für Mac OS X ist 121,9 MB groß.

HP partners with video conferencing firm Vidyo, drops hints at mobile applications
The ink's barely dry on HP's acquisition of some assets from Phoenix, but that's not the company's only recent deal -- it also announced a partnership with video conferencing firm Vidyo last week. That wouldn't necessarily be all that notable in and of itself, but HP seems to be going out of its way to talk up the potential mobile implications of the deal, with HP's Halo marketing manager Darren Podrabsky offering the following tidbit to PreCentral:

iOS 4-ready apps begin to populate App Store
Some of the first iOS 4-compatible apps are beginning to reach the App Store, investigation shows. While these are still relatively few, one of the first is Dropbox 1.2.2, a client for the popular file sync service. Virgin Atlantic to get in-flight phone calls, web access
Virgin Atlantic and Panasonic Avionics have partnered to bring Internet access to passengers in flight. The deal is worth more than $70 million and will bring Panasonic's eX2 in-flight entertainment and eXPhone products into Virgin Atlantic's A330 planes. Other aircraft will be added in the future. The deal will let passengers place calls, and send and receive text messages as well as e-mails from their own smartphones.

Amazon job hints at secret, "completely new" gaming project
A new job posting for Amazon has hinted that the company is working on a secret gaming strategy. The position for a Senior Product Manager in Video Games asks for someone to work on a "stealth project" for a "completely new type of technology." Sprint's WiMAX service teases EVO 4G-toting New Yorkers
We'd figured that Sprint and partner Clearwire were going to have a devil of a time rolling out WiMAX this year in New York City; urban canyons are always tricky, of course, but their oddball 2500MHz spectrum allocation isn't the best at penetrating buildings and other structures, either. HTC Hero: Android 2.1 erscheint im Juni

Apple already delaying new iPhone 4 orders to July 14
Apple this afternoon set back new iPhone 4 shipments a second time with a simple date change at its online store. New orders for the iPhone 4 in either capacity now aren't due to ship until July 14, or almost three weeks from launch day. It had already pushed back orders to July 2 in an overnight update.

OWC ships RAM upgrade kits for 2010 Mac mini
Vendor Other World Computing has announced two new RAM upgrades, intended explicitly for the 2010 Mac mini. The first of these is a $150, 4GB DDR3 module, which replaces one of Apple's default modules for a maximum 6GB of memory. This option is not available through Apple's customization path, OWC notes.

Orange UK announces iPhone 4 pricing
UK carrier Orange has already confirmed that it'll be joining in on the iPhone 4 party on June 24th, and it's just now revealed exactly how much the phone will cost you depending on the service you choose. As with the 3GS, the iPhone 4 is available on both monthly or pay-as-you-go plans, and actually starts as low as free for a 16GB iPhone 4 on the highest monthly plan (£75 per month) and goes all the way up to £570 (or $845) for an off-contract 32GB iPhone 4 on a pay-as-you-go plan. Windows Phone 7 will lack gyroscope support
Windows Phone 7 won't support gyroscope functions in earlier devices, Microsoft's Brandon Watson said in a Channel9 interview. The OS may have it eventually, but not at launch, and Watson agrees it's a good idea. The issue was brought up by the inclusion of a gyroscope in iPhone 4, which will support it immediately.

Earlier this year at Macword Expo in San Francisco, we were quite impressed with the Parrot AR.Drone. I mean, it's a big, quad-prop helicopter that you control with an iPhone. Impress your friends. Terrorize younger siblings. Deliver packages. What's not to love?

The list of conspicuously missing features on Microsoft's Kin devices is a lengthy one, but considering the target demographic, there's at least one particularly egregious omission: instant messaging. Telus cuts iPhone prices in advance of iPhone 4
Canadian carrier Telus has cut some of its contract prices for the iPhone ahead of launching the iPhone 4. A brand new 32GB 3GS can now be had for $149, while a refurbished version of the same unit costs $99. Similarly, a new 16GB 3GS is $99, and a refurbished model is $49. An iPhone 3G can be had for free alongside a subscription.

The monthly plans offer two options: 24 months and 18 months. The 24 month plan offers 5 price points, ranging from £30 to £75. The low-end offers 150 minutes, 250 texts and no tethering. On the high end you get unlimited minutes and texts, tethering (3GB worth), 100 European roaming minutes, 25MB of European Internet roaming and a pony.*

RIM in an early release detailed a major overhaul to BlackBerry App World. The version 2.0 store now catches up to other mobile app portals and adds a sign-on system known as BlackBerry ID. In einer Pressemitteilung entschuldigt sich Apple bei allen, die gestern im Zuge der Vorbestellung des kommenden iPhones kleinere und größere Probleme mit dem Bestellvorgang hatten. HTC Desire in the US pipeline for 'select regional operators' this August
Since neither T-Mobile nor AT&T have ponied up a branded, high-end Android device yet (though the former is almost certainly about to announce the Galaxy S), we were particularly chuffed to get the news from HTC today that it'll be bringing the lovely Desire to US shores through carriers in August. Thing is, it won't be coming through any of the big guys -- instead, it's destined for "select regional operators," and HTC is quick to note that the Hero has been "well received in regional markets," so we imagine some of those same little guys will be scooping the Desire.

A hacker belonging to Goatse Security -- the group that exposed AT&T privacy vulnerabilities involving the iPad 3G -- has been arrested following an FBI search on his Arkansas home, reports say. Andrew Auernheimer, 24, is facing four felony charges of possession of a controlled substance, and one misdemeanor possession charge. I tried over 40 times throughout the day to order from the Apple Store. Then in the evening here in California, I succeeded. The screen said shipping by June 24th. In the confirmation email the next morning, the delivery is now July 6-8!

AT&T suspends iPhone 4 pre-orders altogether, says they were ten times 3GS' numbers
AT&T just kicked things up another notch, going from a launch day pre-order sellout for the iPhone 4 to well, a total pre-order sellout. The carrier has announced this morning that it's "suspending pre-ordering today in order to fulfill the orders we've already received," saying only that it will resume the pre-order process when it can wrap its brain around the "additional inventory" it'll have on hand. It's hard to gauge where this lies on the truth / hype meter, but for what it's worth, they're saying that pre-orders outstripped the 3GS

Filed under: iPhoneHere's a bit of a surprise. Checking on Apple's iPhone Bumpers, the iPhone 4 cases, we see that shipping is delayed for several colors. While black is listed as being available on June 24th, pink, white, orange and blue list July 2nd as their shipping dates. The green model won't ship until July 16th.
Apple's iPad case also sold extremely well at launch, mostly because there weren't a lot of options and it was so convenient to add it to your purchase. We assume the same thing is happening here. The Bumpers reminded me of iPod Socks, which were kind of silly. But hey, what do I know? Apparently they're selling very well.

Wer gestern oder heute das neue iPhone 4 vorbestellt hat, der hat noch gute Chancen dieses am 24. Juni, dem offiziellen Verkaufsstart, zu bekommen. Wie es den Anschein hat, ist das Kontingent der ersten Produktionsreihe schon nach fast 2 Tagen ausverkauft.
Diese Meldungen gehen derzeit im Netz rum. Auch auf der Webseite der deutschen Telekom ist zu lesen, dass durch die hohe Nachfrage die Auslieferung sich bis zum Juli verzögert. Jetzt bin ich aber gespannt, ob ich mein gestern um 18 Uhr vorbestelltes iPhone 4, am 24. Juni da sein wird.

Tentative smartphone contender Emblaze may be on the verge of falling apart before it has a shipping product, an investigation found today. Engadget-US hat die beiden Instrumente genauer unter die Lupe genommen und versorgt uns sowohl mit Videos als auch mit vielen bunten Fotos. Die Möglichkeit, die Stratocaster gleichzeitig als richtige Gitarre zu benutzen, kam trotz anfänglicher Zweifel sehr gut an. San Francisco passes law requiring phone radiation warnings
San Francisco late Tuesday passed its proposed cellphone radiation law in a move that could impact how the devices are sold in the city. Under the new rules, stores will be required to show the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of radiation next to phones they sell with a clearly readable 11-point or larger font. Hacker group responds to AT&T, leader held by FBI

Yesterday's troublesome pre-order process for iPhone 4s was also beset by some serious privacy violations, according to a number of complaints. Some AT&T customers report that when they tried to log into their accounts on the carrier's website, they instead saw other people's information, including addresses, phone calls and bills. Nokia lowers outlook due to Android, iPhone
Nokia today lived up to predictions by warning that its spring quarter's results would be disappointing. The company expects its net sales to fall near or below the bottom of its $8.3 billion minimum target as the "competitive environment" in high-end phones has forced it to ship fewer phones. Ab 1. Juli können Handybesitzer im EU-Ausland günstiger mobil telefonieren. Mit der zweiten Preissenkungsrunde der Roaming-Verordnung der EU-Kommission verringern sich die Kosten für abgehende Anrufe von 51 auf 46 Cent pro Minute. DisplaySearch erwartet, dass Tablet-PCs wie das iPad klassischen Netbooks im Lauf des Jahres Marktanteile abnehmen werden. T-Mobile expands HSPA+ to cover 25 new cities
T-Mobile today said that the ongoing expansion of its HSPA+ network will cover 25 major urban areas by the end of June, providing the 21Mbps access to significantly more people. The latest cities to get the expansion include Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and North Carolina's research triangle area (Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem). This more than doubles the number of people covered by T-Mobile's HSPA+ network, from 30 million to 75 million.

Nur wenige Stunden nach Auftauchen des neuen Mac mini im Apple Store haben sich die ersten Tester dem neuen Gerät gewidmet und ihre Erfahrungen festgehalten. Jailbreak für iOS 4
Für das am 21. Juni startende iPhone-Betriebssystem iOS 4 gibt es bereits jetzt die Möglichkeit, das aktuelle iPhone (3GS) zu entsperren. Das Blog Redmond Pie hat die Anleitung dafür gepostet. Allerdings funktioniert die Entsperrung lediglich für die Modem-Firmware-Versionen (Baseband) 04.26.08 und 05.11.07. Wer Baseband 05.12.01 verwende, müsse sich noch bis Ende Juni gedulden.

The Panasonic GH1 can do some great video for its size, thanks to that fancy micro four-thirds optical setup, but it's been held back the low bitrates it uses when recording. Now some enterprising hacker named "Tester 13" has reversed engineered the GH1's firmware and unlocked the true power of the camera (much like Magic Lantern has done for the 5D Mark II). In fact, the main trouble now is that Tester 13's firmware uncovers too many options: users are trying out different configurations to maximize quality without bumping into the camera's buffer limitations. Google Maps bindet verstärkt Nutzerfotos ein
Google hat die Anzeige von Nutzerfotos aus seinen Diensten Panoramio und Picase in Google Maps erweitert. Georeferenzierte Bilder zeigt der Dienst nach Bewegen der orangenen Street-View-Figur über die Kartenausschnitte zunächst als blaue Punkte an. Ein Klick auf "Erkunden Sie dieses Gebiet" in der linken Funktionsleiste liefert Vorschaubilder. Google Earth 3.0 nun für iPhone, iPad und iPod touch
Mit Version 3.0 hat Google seine Karten-App Earth an das iPad angepasst. Damit lassen sich nun sowohl auf iPhone und iPod touch als auf dem iPad jeweils vollauflösende Satelliten- und Luftaufnahmen der Erde abrufen. Mit der Unterstützung des iPad ist die Download-Größe der App allerdings auf 12,8 MB gestiegen. Vuvuzela Filter: braucht Computer, funktioniert super
Vor allem vorm Fernseher haben die meisten nach wenigen Tagen WM schon genug. Die Plastiktröten, die in Südafrika wahrlich ihre ganz eigene Note auf das Turnier hinterlassen werden, übertönen das Tagesgeschäft aller fleissigen Vorrundengucker. Die Surfpoeten sind das Problem ganz sachlich angegangen und haben herausgestellt, dass es sich bei dem Grundton der meisten Vuvuzelas um ein Ais handelt. Den kann man nun über bspw. einen Computer filtern. Eine ausführliche Anleitung gibt es auf deren Seite hinter der Quelle. Ohne Soundkarte und ein bisschen Audioprogramm geht das alles aber leider nicht, dennoch haben wir es gestern ausprobiert und das Deutschlandspiel mit weitaus weniger "Hummelbrummen" im Schädel überstanden. Microsoft: Project Natal heißt jetzt offiziell Kinect

Der Name "Project Natal" gehört ab nun der Vergangheit an. Microsoft hat ihre hauseigene Zukunft des Controllers Kinect getauft. Im Rahmen der E3 wurden neben einigen Anwendungen auch eine Video-Chat-Funktion angekündigt, wo man zeitgleich mit bis zu vier Leuten "telefonieren" kann und auch Fotos getauscht werden können. Auch soll es ein Minority-Report-ähnliches Dashboard geben. Preisgerüchte sprechen von 150 Dollar für das Kinect. Beim morgigen Microsoft-Event wird es mehr Fakten geben, vielleicht auch die Präsentation einer Slim Xbox360.

Nokia X5 ist in Singapur nun offiziell

In Singapur wurde soeben das Nokia X5l veröffentlicht. Der Nachfolger des Twist und somit noch ein weiterer Vertreter der quadratischen Handys wie das Motorola Flipout oder das Kin One. Ob das jetzt das neue Ding ist, wollen wir andere beantworten lassen. Fest steht, dass das Telefon mit dem Ritter-Sport-Formfaktor mit Symbian S60 laufen soll, eine 5MP-Kamera hat und Facebook, MySpace und YouTube zu integrieren vertsteht. Toshiba Dynabook Qosmio V65: Highend-Laptop mit blu-ray und TV-Tuner

Heute hat in Japan Toshiba ein neues Qosmio Notebook vorgestellt. Das Dynabook Qosmio V65. Wie die anderen Qosmio-Modelle auch, will das V65 mit seinen Multimediafähigkeiten punkten. So hat es einen digitalen TV-Tuner und einen blu-ray-Player, der auf dem 15,6-Zoll "Clear SuperView LED" HD TFT-Screen mit 1,366×768 Auflösung brillante Bilder dank SpursEngine Coprozessor zeigen will. Bis zu 8GB RAM können verbaut werden, der Prozessor ein Intel Core i5-450M (2.40GHz), eine 500GB-Platte ist mit dabei, Sound kommt aus harman/kardon-Lautsprechern. Die Windows7-Maschine kommt in Japan am 17. Juni für umgerechnet 1600 Euro.

AT&T verschickt Entschuldigungsmail

114.000 iPad 3G-Besitzer in den USA wurden vor kurzem Angriff eines Hackers, der sich in der AT&T ICC Datenbank umschaute und nebenbei die E-Mail-Adresse der genannten 114.000 hackte. AT&T hat sich nun offizell bei all denen mit einer ausführlichen E-Mail entschuldigt. Dass das Sicherheitsloch gestopft sei und dass mit allen rechtlichen Mitteln versucht werde, den Bösewicht ausfindig zu machen. Lest den kompletten Roman nach dem Break.

iPad bekommt dank USB-Schreibmaschine endlich den nötigen Naked Lunch Touch

Noch ein weiteres Gadget der Kategorie Schindluder in Devicehausen. Jack Zylkin ist ein findiger Bastler und modifiziert alte Schreibmaschinen, damit sie USB-tauglich werden und so bspw. als iPad-Tastatur benutzt werden können. Das kostet je nach Modell zwischen 400 und 500 Dollar. Wer selber noch eine olle Tippmaschine im Keller hat, kann sich die auch für 200 Dollar umbauen lassen. Sieht altmodisch aus, schreibt sich noch langsamer als mit der Touchpad-Tastatur, aber kommt im Hipster-Café natürlich super funky an. Ein kurzes Demovideo nach dem Break.

Drehbare Plattformen erinnern immer an Chinarestaurants oder so 70er Küchenutensilien wie dem drehbaren Käseigel. Ein drehbarer Dock nun also für die PS3 und siehe da, es sieht aus als hätte es nie anders ausgesehen. Die Controller werden auf der Rückseite angedockt und dort mit Akkustrom versorgt. 100.000 Legosteine = 32 motorisierte Schachfiguren = Monsterschach

Es gibt so schöne Schachbretter im Taschenformat. Aber manchmal muss es eben ein bisschen aufwendiger sein. Dann nimmt man 100.000 Legosteine und baut 32 Schachfiguren mit Elektromotor und Fernsteuerung, um auf einer karierten Fläche von 4 mal 4 Metern eine Partie Schach auszutragen. Banal oder genial? USB-Stick mit 4 GB und Uhr

In Sachen Uhrzeit sind ja die meisten inzwischen von der Armbanduhr aufs Handy umgestiegen, warum also nicht gleich den nächsten Umzug ins Auge fassen? Zum Beispiel auf den USB-Stick mit minimalistischer Digitaluhr? OK, Sekunden fänden wir noch ganz fein. 4 GB mit Uhrzeit am Schlüsselanhänger sind aber auch so schon ganz gut, nur dass der Spaß 7.000 Yen, also 63 Euro kosten soll, ist verdrießlich.

iPad aufgesägt, 3G-Hotspot eingepflanzt, Patient lebt und erfreut sich bester Funktion

Bitte fragt einfach nicht, warum ein US-Bastler das getan hat, die Ursache liegt nämlich irgendwo tief im Tarif-Dschungel der US-Mobilfunkbranche. Egal. Denn er hat es getan: iPad aufgedengelt, AT&T-Modem raus, Verizon MiFi rein (3G versorgt WiFi-Hotspot), iPad wieder zugedengelt, schneller Surfen, fertig. Wir warten dann noch aufs erste Tethering vom iPad, das theoretisch drin sollte. Die Mobilfunker könnte es allerdings zu weiteren Tarif-Unsinnigkeiten verleiten.

Tanzspiel Dance Central mit Kinect-Steuerung für die Xbox 360

Unsere US-Kollegen hatten bereits Gelegenheit, sich zum Löffel zu machen und das haben sie weidlich ausgekostet: Sonst macht ein Gehüpfe wie Dance Central auch keinen Spaß, schon gar nicht, wenn das Spiel in einem Preview-Modus mit der neuen Gestensteuerung für die Xbox 360 Kinect läuft. Fazit: Viel Spaß und erstaunlich wenig Stress beim Menu-Navigieren durch energisches Fuchteln.

Im neuen Aluminiumdesign hat er jetzt auch einen HDMI-Ausgang, kommt mit 2,4 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM und einer 320 GB Festplatte. Der Designer José Ignacio Martínez hat ein Konzept namens "iPod Shuffle2020" ausgetüftelt, das Apples MP3-Player im Jahr 2020 darstellen soll. Tunebug Vibe: Resonanzkäfer für Raumklangforschung im Alltag

Musik kommt dieser Tage ja notorisch von mobilen Geräten, aber jenseits von Kopfhörern tut sich leider ein gähnendes Lautsprecherloch auf. Eine adäquate, also mobile Lösung für echten Raumklang ist also schwer gefragt und der Ansatz des Tunebug Vibe ist dabei durchaus vielversprechend. Das 150 Gramm schwere Gadget nutzt nämlich alle denkbaren Dinge in Reichweite als Resonanzkörper und das mit teils erstaunlich voluminösen Resultaten. Alles eine Frage des Zeitgeistes: Die von Facebook gewohnten Gesten und Zeichen schwappen ins echte Sozialleben zurück: Nach den Gefällt-mir-Aufklebern kommt das Konzept des I-Like-Button-Stempels. Ausgedacht hat sich´s die britische Design-Bude Nation und nachdem die Resonanz recht beeindruckend war, sollen die Teile jetzt sogar in Produktion gehen. In grauer Vorzeit, als Radios noch ein "Auge" hatten und Fernseher ehrenwerte Maschinen waren, die ein Minütchen brauchten, um auf Betriebstemperatur zu kommen, war es üblich, die Glotze in Truhen, Schränken oder Schreibtischen zu verstecken, die natürlich durchgehend dunkle, massive Holzmonstrositäten waren. Nintendo 3DS - live von der E3
Unsere US-Kollegen sind live auf der E3 wo gerade Nintendo Hof hält und die Nintendo 3DS vorstellt. Sie sind ganz Stolz auf ihre 3D-Technik, die ohne Brille auskommt: "eine Lösung, die 3D-Gaming überall unterwegs möglich macht". Der obere Bildschirm ist erstaunlicherweise nur 3,5 Zoll groß und nicht wie erwartet im Breitbildformat, auf der Seite gibt es einen Slider, der es erlaubt, den 3D-Effekt in Abhängigkeit von der Entfernung vom Bildschirm einzustellen, oder auch komplett abzustellen. Lego-Roboterhand bewegt sich synchron zur Menschenhand im Lego-Exoskelett
David Hyman hat das Prinzip des Roboters, der durch einen Menschen im Exoskelett gesteuert wird, mit Lego durchgezogen, jedenfalls mit einer Hand: Das Lego-Gerüst um die Hand aus Fleisch und Blut ist mit 3 Bewegungs- und 2 Drucksensoren ausgestattet, deren Daten an die Lego-Roboterhand gekabelt werden, auf dass diese die Bewegungen synchron nachvollzieht. Nintendo 3DS - erster Eindruck
Großer Andrang bei Nintendo als die Nintendo 3DS auf der E3 rumgezeigt wird. Unsere Kollegen konnten sich durchdrängeln und schonmal in aller Hektik die ersten Eindrücke sammeln: der Effekt ist nicht überwältigend, funktioniert aber durchaus und erzeugt ein dreidimensionales Bild, ohne daß man eine Brille tragen oder schielen müsste. Sobald man allerdings den Blick ein wenig abwendet, fällt die Illusion in sich zusammen, wenn man einigermassen ruhig auf den Schirm guckt, klappts aber. Ansonsten fühlt sich die 3DS nicht anders an, als die bisherigen DS/DSis, das Slider Pad ist dem Analogstick von der PSP ähnlich.

Endlich Klarheit in Sachen Move. Auf der E3-Konferenz wurden Nägel mit Köpfen gemacht. Ab dem 15. September, noch vor den USA, kommt Europa in den Genuss des neuen Pakets. Das "Sports Champions"-Bundle mit PlayStation Eye, PlayStation Move und einem Spiel kostet ca. 100 Euro, der Move-Controller rund die Hälfte, wenn man ihn einzeln kauft. Unboxing: Mac mini 2010

Kaum ist er da, da ist er schon bei Engadget aufgeschlagen und wird ausgepackt, bevor es die Review gibt. Der neue Mac mini macht im Unibody-Design in seiner Aluminiumhülle einen deutlich seriöseren Eindruck als sein Vorgänger und das zuvor klobige externe Netzteil hat sich jetzt ins Innere verzogen. Update: Mac OS X 10.6.4 ist draussen

Das hier war schon eine ganze Weile im Betastadium, wurde aber erst jetzt veröffentlicht: Mac OS X 10.6.4 bietet eigentlich "nur" Bugfixes und Verbesserungen, mal abgesehen von Safari 5, wenn ihr euch das nicht sowieso schon runtergeladen habt. Bisher läuft es hier rund, lasst uns wissen, ob bei euch totgeglaubte Tastaturen und Trackpads wieder auferstehen und ob eure Firewiresoundkarten plötzlich nicht mehr knacken (all das soll nämlich unter anderem behoben sein). Nintendo 3DS - zweiter Eindruck: funktioniert!

Gestern konnten die Kollegen in der Drängelei auf der E3 nur einen kurzen Blick auf die Nintendo 3DS erhaschen. Mittlerweile haben sie sie auch ausprobiert - und sind beeindruckt. Am Nintendo-Stand gab's Games ohne Ende: Gezeigt wurden zu gleichen Teilen spielbare Tech-Demos, nicht spielbare Trailer und normale 3D-Filme. Noch mehr als die Quantität des Angebots überzeugte aber die Qualität. Die meisten Games waren von der Grafik her mindestens auf iPhone 3GS-Level, und der 3D-Effekt funktionierte bei fast allen.

Video: Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 sieht aus wie ein Riesenhandy

Samsungs 7-Zoll-Tab legt einen Videoauftritt hin und sieht dabei nicht ganz so aus wie bei den vorgestern hier gezeigten Tinhte-Bildern: kein TouchWiz UI und andere Buttons am unteren Rand. Der Super AMOLED-Screen bleibt aber derselbe. Wird aus dem BlackBerry-Slider der Torch 9800?

Die Auskenner von Crackberry.com haben diverse Hinweise bekommen, das der BlackBerry-Slider, den wir bislang Bold 9800 nennen, unter Umständen ganz anders heißen wird. RIM besitzt seit dem April die Web-Adresse blackberrytorch.com und vielleicht wird der Slider die erste Fackel. Neue Produktkategorie, neuer Name Sinn würde das schon machen. Dürfte sich alles bald klären.

Microsoft warnt vor Angriffen auf ungepatchte Windows-XP-Lücke
Hacker haben damit begonnen, eine ungepatchte Lücke im Hilfesystem von Windows XP auszunutzen, zu der ein Google-Ingenieur in der vergangenen Woche Informationen veröffentlicht hatte, bevor Microsoft einen Patch bereitstellen konnte. Persönliche Erfahrungen: iPhone 4 für Bestandskunden vorbestellen
Gestern war der Tag auf den viele gewartet haben. Man konnte endlich das iPhone 4 vorbestellen. Leider ist es für die sogenannten Bestandskunden nicht möglich dieses per Telefon oder online zu bewerkstelligen. Da ich nun selber den ganzen Tag (auch manche Nacht) mit sevenmac beschäftigt bin, war diese Nachricht nicht so toll. Warum geht das eigentlich nicht online oder per Telefon? Ich habe bei Telekom nachgefragt, aber auch da konnte keiner mir eine wirklich plausible Erklärung geben. Ich persönlich gehe einfach davon aus, dass man eben sich mehr um Neukunden, als sich um die bestehenden Vertragskunden kümmert. Sorry, das ist kein Aushängeschild für ein so großes Unternehmen.
Also musste ich in den „sauren Apfel beissen“ und mich auf den Weg machen zu einem Telekom-Shop in der Nähe. Klar ausgedrückt, da ich etwas „ländlich“

iPad-Datenpanne bei AT&T: FBI verhaftet Hacker wegen Drogenbesitzes
Das Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) hat den Hacker Andrew Auernheimer wegen Drogenbesitzes verhaftet. Der 24-Jährige, der sich selbst "Escher" beziehungsweise "Weev" nennt, ist Mitglied der Hackergruppe Goatse Security, die sich in der vergangenen Woche über einen Fehler in der AT&T-Website Zugang zu 114.000 E-Mail-Adressen von iPad-Besitzern verschafft hatte.

iPhone 4 pre-order mess takes a sinister turn with privacy breach
In amongst the otherwise fun stampede that befell Apple and AT&T's servers yesterday, some less humorous problems were also taking place. Numerous tipsters reported to Gizmodo during the day that they were being logged into other people's AT&T accounts while going in to try and sign up for an iPhone 4 upgrade. An insider source suggests that this was caused by a major fraud prevention overhaul of AT&T's software last weekend, which was followed by "absolutely no testing" prior to the iPhone 4's launch. T-Mobile expands HSPA+ footprint, now covers over 25 metro areas
The nation's number four carrier is once again pressing ahead with its big HSPA+ expansion, announcing today that speeds of up to 21Mbps (theoretically, of course) will be available in over 25 metropolitan areas covering more than 75 million folks by the end of the month. In conjunction with the expansion, that means that T-Mobile's webConnect Rocket USB modem will be available in the newly-upgraded markets, which include LA, Dallas, Atlanta, Houston, Seattle, Tampa, Orlando, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and New Orleans, among others. Parrot AR Drone: High-Tech-Spielzeug für 300 Dollar
Anfang Januar hat Parrot mit einer ersten Demo des AR Drone viel Wind gemacht. Der rund einen halben Meter große Quadrokopter lässt sich vom iPhone oder iPod touch aus fernsteuern und überträgt während seiner maximal 12 Minuten langen Ausflüge auf Wunsch auch Live-Videobilder in VGA-Größe an die zugehörige iPhone-App.
Doch damit nicht genug, Parrot will nach und nach verschiedene weitere Anwendungen veröffentlichen, die das außergewöhnliche Fluggerät zu einem "Augmented-Reality-Spielzeug" machen. Angedacht sind Geschicklichkeits- oder Kampfspiele für einen oder mehrere Quadrokopter.
Der Hersteller hat im Rahmen der derzeit stattfindenden Electronic Entertainment Expo nun die Verfügbarkeit der AR Drone für September angekündigt. Das Gerät soll dann zum Preis von 300 zuerst in den USA vertrieben werden, Details zum internationalen Verkauffstart sollten in Kürze folgen.

AT&T-Hacker wegen Drogenbesitz festgenommen
Die Polizei des US-Bundesstaates Arkansas hat Andrew Auernheimer, ein Mitglied der Hacker-Gruppe Goatse Security, festgenommen. Der Grund ist allerdings nicht der Angriff auf AT&T, durch den sich die Gruppe den Zugriff auf 100.000 E-Mail-Adressen von iPad-3G-Benutzern verschaffen konnte, sondern illegaler Drogenbesitz.
Die Drogen haben die Beamten im Rahmen der Ausführung einer Durchsuchungsverfügung gefunden. AT&T hatte auch

Rock Band 3 Squier Stratocaster plays both real and virtual guitar... at the same time (video)
As unfair as it is, what initially gave us hesitation about Mad Catz and Squier's Stratocaster Pro guitar controller was that, well, it's Fender's second-tier brand. Despite these prejudices from our youth, Harmonix pretty much sold us on it with one pretty badass trick: the ability to simultaneously play Rock Band 3 on Pro Expert and rock the same tune through an amplifier. Erfolgreicher Start: Erste Engpässe beim Vertrieb des iPhone 4 absehbar
Der gestern angelaufene Vorverkauf für das iPhone 4 war ganz offensichtlich eine Bewährungsprobe für die IT-Systeme bei Apple und den beteiligten Mobilfunkunternehmen. Nicht nur in Deutschland, sondern auch in den USA, Frankreich und Großbritannien gab es teils massive Probleme mit der Erreichbarkeit der Server. WaterField Designs has announced it's new iPhone 4 Smart Case with three functional carrying options. WaterField's case is a slip-in design that features a multi-layered padding system and a high-impact, rigid insert for protecting the iPhone 4 screen. Sony turns to ads to fight iPhone, prop up PSP sales
Sony stepped up its rhetoric against Apple at its E3 keynote today with the start of a new ad campaign. The new spots, centering around a teen named Marcus, argue that the PSP hasn't been getting enough attention and that it deserves more credit as a game system. In one ad, he complains to Sony exec Kevin Butler that he's tired of people "talking about those apps on the phone" in an obvious poke at the iPhone, suggesting the attention should go back to games such as Peace Walker.

Nintendo 3DS in-depth preview: it works!
So, we got shuffled past a 3DS at a rapid pace this morning on our way out of the Nintendo keynote, but we've just had an opportunity to play some titles and really get a feel for the thing and we're pretty impressed. Before we were only shown a technical demo, but at Nintendo's booth there are games, games, games. The booth was about evenly split between playable tech demos, non-playable live-rendered trailers, and regular 3D movies. Nintendo clearly is hard at work on titles for its system, and there's plenty of third party clout getting into the mix. Still, what impressed us more than the quantity was the quality. HTC EVO 4G safely overclocked past 1.2GHz, battery begs for mercy
With root obtained for the EVO 4G, it was just a matter of time before the overclocking hilarity ensued -- and as it turns out, that Snapdragon core was ready and waiting to fulfill your wildest desires. T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy S outed by way of FCC?
We've already heard enough talk -- both from our own tipsters and other publications -- to say with some level of confidence that T-Mobile plans on unleashing the mighty Galaxy S at some point in the next month or two, but is this the smoking gun? There's now a phone called the SGH-T959 in the FCC's certification database that features AWS 3G support, and while external photos are rudely left out, the device's outline clearly mimics that of the generic, unbranded Galaxy S that we've been seeing since its unveiling back in March. HTC Aria for AT&T hands-on
We just took delivery of AT&T's brand new Aria from HTC, and we have to say, we're kind of tickled -- with the hardware, anyway. It's hard not to smile at the HD Mini-esque design elements, including the faux screws on back, the wild yellow interior, and well, just the overall mini-ness of it. Seriously, this is a tiny phone; that means that eschewing WVGA in favor of HVGA isn't an issue, but it also means that effectively using the on-screen keyboard could be. News: AT&T sold out of launch day iPhone 4 pre-orders online
AT&T has confirmed that its website has sold out of its launch day stock of iPhone 4 units. iPhone 4 may natively support Facebook video uploads

The folks over at 9to5Mac.com dug into the iOS 4 SDK, and found some XML code that seems to indicate that video uploads to Facebook will be integrated with the new OS on the iPhone 4. Most likely they'll show up as an option for submitting your recorded videos direct from the native iOS video app.

HTC Hero gets Android 2.1 update across Europe

Olympus outs waterproof, entry-level digital cameras
Olympus has unveiled two new digital cameras on Tuesday, the the waterproof, 10-megapixel X-560WP and the entry-level, 12-megapixel T100. The former can capture photos at depths of up to 10 feet, and carries automatic scene detection, face detection up to 16 faces and an auto-correction mode to improve shadows or red eye.

Americans: gaze upon your neighbors around you if you want to see what a healthy GSM ecosystem looks like. AT&T today said it has already sold out of its launch day iPhone 4 pre-orders. Any orders made directly through AT&T after 4:30PM Eastern have been bumped to June 25 or later. The sellout is the result of "incredible interest," which AT&T said represented its best online sales day in company history.

Apple posts Mac OS X 10.6.4, Leopard security updates
Apple has released Mac OS X 10.6.4, an update long in development for Snow Leopard. The patch fixes several important problems; these include keyboards and trackpads becoming unresponsive, Creative Suite 3 programs failing to launch, and difficulty in copying, renaming or deleting files on SMB servers. Minor bugfixes target fullscreen editing in Aperture and iPhoto, and using Good Quality deinterlacing in DVD Player.

iPhone eyeing top spot in Australia

AT&T sold out of iPhone 4 pre-orders for launch day
BGR's reporting that AT&T's launch day allocation of iPhone 4s is now sold out, and anyone who got in the door after 1:30PM Pacific Time will get their unit some time between June 25 and July 5. Frankly, we have no idea how anyone managed to get a pre-order in, let alone enough to sell out -- but everyone who did deserves a pat on the back and a high-five.
Update: We've gotten the official statement from AT&T, and it's true, though you still might be able to waltz in on launch day without a pre-order and pick up one of the unallocated units:
