iPad patents show possible second dock port, smart corner
A pair of Apple patents for the iPad have surfaced in China that point to designs the company has at least considered for the iPad. One discovered by Patently Apple shows a second Dock Connector port on the left side in addition to the usual at the bottom. The design would presumably be to let the iPad dock in landscape mode and could also keep a peripheral such as the Camera Connector attached while the iPad is docked.

Minox PX3D concept camera eyes-on at Photokina 2010
It took us a solid nine minutes of gawking at Minox's gilded DCC 5.1 in order to push through and locate the PX3D that premiered here at Photokina, but sadly, little was available other than the opportunity to snag a few glamor shots. StarDunk going to a free demo model
StarDunk is one of my most favorite apps recently, ever since I covered it back for Daily App a little while ago. It's an amusing little 2D basketball game, made even more impressive by the fact that it juggles online multiplayer across the world -- as you throw baskets, you're also playing in real-time against other users, and competing with various powerups and stunts for as many points as possible. The game was also notable for being one of the first titles integrated into Game Center, back when that service first arrived on the iPhone.

Introducing the iPod ninja
We here at TUAW fortunately passed on reporting the obviously fake story of Steve Jobs being denied access to Japan because of ninja stars he was reportedly carrying in his luggage. But we did like this fake Apple page from the folks at Scoopertino, featuring the iPod ninja, a brand new throwing star-shaped iPod. Software Update: iTunes 10.0.1 brings Ping to your music library
An update to iTunes answers the question a lot of us have had since iTunes 10 hit the streets: why can't I use Ping to like or post about music that's already in my personal library? iTunes 10.0.1 weighs in at 86.4 MB and also fixes some bugs that have plagued 10.0.
One new feature is the Ping Sidebar, which appears when you're in your library. As seen below, Ping Sidebar shows the recent activity of your friends or artists you follow in a easily-accessed sidebar on the right side of the screen.

Rumor: New 11.6 inch MacBook Air on tap for this fall
Another new device rumor has popped up, this time about a replacement for the MacBook Air. Apparently, the "old" MacBook Air isn't selling too well, so Apple is looking at refreshing the line with a smaller device equipped with an 11.6" (measured diagonally) screen.
A device of this size is beginning to encroach on dangerous territory, considering how Steve Jobs and company have made negative comments about "netbooks" in the past. AppleInsider conjectures that the power and premium price of a more svelte MacBook Air would place it more in the ultraportable category than that of a netbook.

Apple-Patent beschreibt ein Handheld, das deine Hand erkennt
Hier mal wieder ein kleines Apple-Patent-Schmankerl, Zukunftsmusik, die wir so ähnlich auch schon von Intel gehört haben. Das beschriebene "Handheld Device" erkennt über kapazitive Sensoren den Nutzer an der Art, wie er es hält und richtet sich dann an dem jeweiligen Nutzerprofil aus. Das ist alles, worum es in dem Patent geht, theoretisch könnte ein solches Gerät aber auch "Buttons" direkt unter den Fingern hervorzaubern, so dass es egal wäre, ob jemand es mit der rechten oder der linken Hand nutzt. Apple hat iTunes 10.0.1 bereitgestellt. Mit dem Update führt Apple die Ping-Seitenleiste in iTunes ein, außerdem sind Fehlerbehebungen integriert.

The same source that leaked a video of the prototype of the HP Slate has posted a second video (below) of the enterprise edition in action. iPhone 4 launches in China to huge crowds
Apple has enjoyed a huge surge of interest in its iPhone 4 in China. At least one thousand customers lined up at the new Beijing store, with some up to two days before the official launch. Apple overnight released iTunes 10.0.1 (84MB). The patch adds the previously hinted at Ping sidebar and gives listeners a way of tracking artists and friends while still looking at the iTunes library. It's also now possible to Like or Post from the library instead of just the iTunes Store.

Review: Logitech Wireless Trackball M570
Trackballs were legion in the 1990s, but the input method has largely fallen out of favor in the past decade both as traditional mice gained precision and as the public swung its attention to notebooks. Keine Ahnung, was dieses Infochaos ausgelöst hat: Eben noch hat Microsofts Windows Phone 7-Direktor Brandon Watson erklärt, dass es den Mobilfunk-Anbietern überlassen bleibt, ob sie Tethering unter WP7 ermöglichen wollen. Nun kommt eine andere Ansage von Microsoft: Windows Phone 7 unterstützt Tethering offiziell nicht. Steve Jobs in an e-mail this evening suggested that Apple TV delays won't prevent the media hub from arriving before the end of September. A buyer worrying that the Apple TV would have to ship early next week to make the target was given a simple "yep" answer by the executive. Out of (almost) nowhere, the United States Department of Justice announced today that it was requiring six well-known technology outfits to stop entering into "anticompetitive employee solicitation agreements," and we're guessing you will have heard just a few of these names: Adobe, Apple, Google, Intel, Intuit and Pixar. As the story goes, these six companies were all mixed up (but not all together, mind you) in agreements that forbid each other from cold calling employees from a rival firm in order to offer them a different job.

FaceTime omission in Middle East not prompted by carriers?
Apple allegedly holds sole responsibility for restricting FaceTime access in countries throughout the Middle East. Sonos Wireless Dock hands-on
What you have pictured here is the latest Sonos music device. In person the Sonos Wireless Dock is exactly what you were thinking when you read the press release yesterday. The demo unit had a special Sonos branded half case that left the bottom unaltered, because like many other docks, the cases get in the way of proper docking. The dock does accept the standard iPod dock inserts, so maybe there's still hope that a case manufacturer will ship it with a special insert made with the intent to simplify the life of one who like to use both an iPod case, and a dock together.
