Motorola's Jha says MOTOBLUR brand will fade from view

We'd already had a pretty good indication that Motorola was shifting its strategy when it came to MOTOBLUR, and it looks like co-CEO Sanjay Jha has now finally made that move official. Speaking on the company's Q2 earnings call, Jha said that while MOTOBLUR will continue to be incorporated into some of it's phones, Motorola has decided that it will "focus on the value proposition of products and not MOTOBLUR as a brand name in its own right." Tip: 'Hide' sensitive data in Address Book

Here's an interesting tip from The Apple Blog about hiding sensitive data in plain sight. In this instance, Dave Greenbaum explains how he uses an app like Apple's Address Book to plainly display a credit card number. The catch is that, upon first glance, the record looks like any other collection of contact info. Only Dave knows how to read the data "hidden" inside. It's not uncrackable, of course, but still a clever idea. Perhaps you could use it to obscure less sensitive data if you'd rather not do it with a credit card. White iPhone 4s are in production, a report from China suggests. A worker at a mainland Chinese factory is claimed to have carried a white phone into Hong Kong, using the box for a black model as a disguise. iPhone, BlackBerry killing mid-range phone market

Apple's iPhone and RIM's BlackBerry line are effectively strangling the market for mid-range phones, analysts at Deutsche Bank found in a new report. The companies now represent two thirds of all phone revenue but combined only make up about 10 percent of the market, leaving very little room for anything but very low-end, high-volume devices. Korean companies are suffering the most as their focus on feature-laden but "dumb" phones that are no longer selling as well.

Verizon rumors: LTE, Android 3.0 tablets, a Droid Pro, and more

BGR's lined up a handful of very believable rumors for Big Red today -- and if you're an Android fan, you're going to want to pay very close attention (heck, even if you're not, you should probably take a look). App Store terms change to allow educational discounts

Apple has made another revision to developer terms at the App Store, reports say. Studios can now enable a 50 percent educational discount for their titles, so long as buying institutions agree to pay for multiple downloads. Amazon Kindle DX Graphite review

Just over a year ago, we reviewed Amazon's jumbo-sized Kindle -- the Kindle DX. Just a few weeks ago, Amazon outed a new, $379 Graphite gray version of the DX, and this time, it's got the new Pearl display from E Ink. AT&T's U-verse Mobile lets iPhones download, schedule shows

AT&T today provided a rare link between TV and mobile by launching U-verse Mobile (free, App Store) for the iPhone. The app provides remote scheduling of the IPTV service's DVR but also opens the door to Internet viewing. As part of a new marketing effort, Microsoft has launched a webpage promoting the advantages of PCs over Macs. The page touts Windows 7-based PCs as "designed for work and play," having several features Macs go without. Google and Verizon propose neutrality rules, exempt wireless

Google and Verizon this afternoon outlined their widely rumored proposal for net neutrality guidelines. As expected, the terms would focus on wired controls but would sacrifice fairness in wireless to reach the goal. The FCC would be the only official body and would have authority to ban both blocking or throttling legal traffic as well as limit prioritization of certain content, but only on wired networks.

Doesn't look like we've ever covered a pencil on Engadget before, but this is just too nifty to pass up: the Sharpie Liquid Pencil uses liquid graphite to write like a pen, erase like a pencil, and eventually dry like a permanent marker. Sharpie's blog says the Liquid Pencil go on sale in September, but Office Depot has a $5 two-pack with six erasers in stock online now -- and we were charming enough to snag an early review sample. It basically works as described, although the marks don't erase completely clear -- because you're writing with a metal pen tip, there's no way to avoid impressing the paper a little, and the indentations are pretty visible. AT&T may take advantage of its last days of iPhone exclusivity to reclaim the top spot in US carriers by next year, IE Market Research said today in a new study. We just recently got a glimpse of one possible future of DJing, but our world has now already been turned upside down once again with this multitouch-enabled rig built by Gregory Kaufman. Apple has bought a "perpetual, worldwide, fully-paid, [and] exclusive" license to the patents of a company called Liquidmetal Technologies, a new SEC filing reveals. Apple has expanded its iAds advertising platform a bit to allow for in-app downloads. According to iPodNN, the ads resemble a page in the App Store. Needham ups AAPL target to $375 on Mac, iPad sales

Research firm Needham & Co. has made a major hike to its price target for Apple stock, adjusting the number from $280 to $375. Analyst Charlie Wolf notes that the increase is based on the many changes since a February evaluation. In particular the vector of Mac and iPad sales is thought to be "materially higher" than originally forecast; iPad sales, for example, were at one point expected to hit 20 million by 2019, but are already approaching 12 million a year. Microsoft's largely mysterious Menlo project has been caught running through a newly discovered research paper (PDF). A 4.1-inch, capacitive touch prototype said to be Menlo, although also identified as using Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2, has been used to show an example of an app codenamed Greenfield that would use an accelerometer, a barometer and more to provide in-building navigation.
