XtremeMac Tango TRX iPod dock hopes you'll prefer Bluetooth to AirPlay
When you consider that there are probably loads of AirPlay-equipped speaker docks waiting in the wings, it's hard to get all giddy about XtremeMac's Tango TRX. Although the dock has well, a dock and a line-in jack, it also packs Bluetooth 2.1. On the sound quality end, it boasts a 2.1 digital audio system along with midrange drivers, two dome tweeters and a subwoofer. We got a look at it yesterday, and its orange LED status lights and patterned sides make it fairly handsome, but we couldn't really get a handle on the acoustics as it was being demoed in a space with lots of loud and rowdy technology journalists. RIM ships 12.1 million BlackBerry phones, slows in new users
RIM today broke another record in BlackBerry shipments but also gave some signs of trouble for adoption. The company moved 12.1 million smartphones during its summer but also saw the number of new BlackBerry users drop compared to the spring. Of the mix, 4.5 million were new to BlackBerry accounts versus 4.9 million last season.

Android is taking the smartphone market, but don't panic just yet
To read all the latest internet posts, the iPhone is all but dead, succumbing to the onslaught of Android phones being bought by customers in massive numbers. ComScore, who watches mobile use very carefully, pretty much says Android is rapidly eating away at the iPhone market share.

AIDACASE brings Keycase Folio Deluxe iPad case to the US
We hope you didn't go to the trouble of importing the Keycase Folio from the UK -- AIDACASE has just announced that it's making the iPad case available in the US in a slightly improved "deluxe" version. That naturally includes the same Bluetooth keyboard as before, but AIDACASE has opted to use a micro USB cable instead of an Apple dock connector for charging the keyboard, and it's added a new magnetic flap to keep the case securely closed. Scosche, Speck introduce new iPad cases, bags
Speck has launched three new iPad bags, while Scosche has unveiled the foldIO iPad case. Speck's A-Line 10 is a handbag-style product with a zippered, padded and microfleece-lined main compartment. Verizon won't sell Windows Phone 7 until 2011

News: iOS 4.2 features improved YouTube, CoreMIDI support
A number of new features and improvements have been discovered in the first beta version of iOS 4.2. PSP2 apparently in Mortal Kombat developers' hands, said to be a 'pretty powerful machine'
We just heard last month that Sony might already be showing off some prototype PSP2 hardware (said to be roughly similar in size to the PSP-3000), and it now looks like the next-gen handheld may have found its way into some developers' hands as well. Official Facebook iPad app is 'coming soon,' says developer
An official Facebook app for the iPad is "coming soon," claims Oecoway co-founder Cyril Moutran. The developer is responsible for Friendly, an unofficial Facebook iPad app that costs 99 cents. People at Facebook are claimed to have told Moutran that official iPad software is in production, and nearing release. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has promised an iPad app since June.

AT&T to move most 3G sites to HSPA+, vows real 7Mbps speeds
AT&T's planned HSPA+ 3G upgrade will hit more areas and deliver much faster real-world speeds than expected, the company's operations president John Stankey said in a presentation at a Bank of America/Merrill Lynch telecoms event today. Initially characterized as hitting only strategic locations, the faster service should now reach most areas and hit a practical 7Mbps speed when its network is unhindered. The benchmark is roughly in the middle of Verizon's estimated 4G speeds, although its LTE-based hardware will give lower latency and higher peak speeds of 12Mbps.

Wii Ping Pong paddle reviewed, loved, unavailable for purchase
We've seen our share of downright silly controllers for the Wii (we're looking at you, CTA), and we were expecting more of the same, but we'll be darned if no less an authority than self-avowed Wii Sports Table Tennis addict Paul Govan (from Gamepeople.co.uk) hasn't given the Wii Sports Table Tennis Bat high marks all around: it's weighted like proper paddle, the build quality is decent, comes with a battery and a charger and, most importantly, it "replicates all the features of [the] Wiimote and MotionPlus perfectly." Alarms helps out with 'productive procrastination'
I started playing with a new app called Alarms yesterday, and it's already become indispensable to me. It's rare that something fits so perfectly into my workflow that I don't think twice about the space it takes up in my (already frighteningly crowded) menubar. What is it, you ask? It's an unobtrusive means of scheduling tasks on a timeline, seeing your upcoming tasks and taking care of things one at a time.
Alarms isn't a replacement for a full-fledged task management system, but it's perfect for remembering to reply to emails that you aren't ready to tackle at the moment, honey-do items, turning the fish filter back on 10 minutes after feeding anything that just needs a gentle reminder at a specific time.

Peek 9 confirmed to be real, announcement coming tomorrow
Hold onto your Peeks, people. A listing for a brand new Peek 9 has turned up on a few retailers' websites, and we've just confirmed with Peek CEO Amol Sarva that the device is indeed the real deal -- there had been a bit of confusion given it was listed under the two-way radio category on one site. Unfortunately, any details beyond the price you see above will have to wait until tomorrow, which means we can only speculate for the time being. Perhaps a FaceBook-only device to complement the TwitterPeek? A FacePeek, if you will.

'Unknown' Apple product actually revised Apple TV
Earlier references to an unknown product were actually pointing to the overhauled Apple TV, an iPhone developer notes. Examining the initial iOS 4.2 beta, the developer points out that code previously mentioning only an "iProd 2,1" now contains "AppleTV 2,1." It was previously assumed that the device would be a new iPad, owing to the first iPad being codenamed iPad 1,0 and then 1,1.

Yahoo prepping tablet-friendly home page, iPad clock app
Yahoo's Project Runway event today brought out a major push towards tablets with two new creations. On top of its HTML5 mail, the early search firm will have an HTML5-based home portal optimized for tablets. The page is geared towards the iPad but will give any suitably equipped tablet large, touchscreen-friendly views of highlighted articles as well as usual information like stocks and weather.

Verizon confirms 4G coming to 30 "NFL cities" in late 2010
At a Wednesday meeting with enterprise IT managers, Verizon Wireless revealed it will launch its 4G network in 30 NFL cities before year's end. The high-speed network will be launched in remaining major US cities systematically until all are covered by 2013, said Verizon senior federal sales executive Bernie McMonagle. The major metropolitan areas are expected to be the 30 cities that are home to the 32 football teams in the NFL.

AT&T expanding HSPA+ rollout this year, launching LTE in mid-2011
It's a good day for next-gen network news, apparently -- first Verizon promised to bring its 4G network to 30 NFL cities by the end of the year, and now AT&T's John Stankey says its LTE network will arrive by mid-2011. Trials are already underway in Baltimore and Dallas, and Ma Bell's pulled some $700 million out of the kitty to fund the buildout, with investment scheduled to go "far beyond that" next year. On top of that, AT&T is also working to upgrade its backhaul connections to current HSPA 7.2 3G sites and is planning to upgrade the vast majority of its 3G sites HSPA+ for real-world 7Mbps 3G download speeds sometime

Microsoft may finally be working on iPad apps, a Twitter post by Windows SuperSite's Paul Thurrott suggests. "Shhh. It's true: Microsoft is working on iPad apps," he says. Microsoft employee profile hints at possible Acer Windows Phone 7 device

What you're looking at above is a snippet from the LinkedIn profile for a Microsoft Hardware Program Manager who seems to have not only worked on Windows Phone 7 devices from ASUS, LG and Samsung, but one from Acer as well -- the same Acer that's so far been out of the Windows Phone 7 mix. Where are the iPad refurbs?
So it's almost six months after the iPad's US release -- and there are still no iPad refurbs in the Apple Store. At a time when AT&T is already selling refurb iPhone 4's, which just debuted this Summer, iPad refurbs are noticeably absent from normal retail channels.
The iPad, in fact, remains in a launch phase. It will only start hitting major US retailers like Target in October and is continuing to roll out overseas. The iPad launches tomorrow in China, with prices starting at CNY 3988.
Although Apple is certain to be already working on the next generation of iPad, it's clear that its high demand continues to produce limited availability.

Microsoft Metro mouse leaks with blue laser for $20
A new Microsoft mouse has surfaced on Russian website TheVista ahead of any sort of official announcement. Called the Metro Mouse, it will be part of Microsoft's blue laser-based BlueTrack mouse line. Also, at a projected retail price of $20, it would be the cheapest in the range, below even the $30 Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500. The mouse is ambidextrous, like others in the range.

ABC iPad app syncs with live TV via audio cues
The merger of iPad and television took another step forward with the release of ABC's My Generation Sync, which is the first iOS app to synchronize with live TV.
If you've ever been a "Nielsen Family," you've had a box installed in your house that sends data on your viewing habits back to the Nielsen corporation. It works by monitoring a program's unique "audio watermark" emitted by your TV; human ears can't detect the sounds. iPad cuts Best Buy's traditional notebook PC sales in half
The iPad has slashed Best Buy's sales of conventional notebook computers in half, Best Buy CEO Brian Dunn revealed in an interview this week [sub. required]. Estimates at the big-box retail chain have seen Apple's tablet drop notebook PC sales by "as much as 50 [percent]" since it started shipping to some Best Buy stores in April, the executive told the WSJ. In spite of shrinking the PC market, the iPad helped Best Buy grow its revenue for its just-ended quarter and even gave a lift to the portable computing category's results.

iTunes Store suffers from continuing credit card rejections
A number of visitors to the iTunes Store have had a hard time trying to download anything in recent weeks, talk on Apple's support forums indicates. Attempting to buy or update an app, for example, will potentially trigger an error message, telling people their credit card is declined and to enter valid information. Updating the appropriate account data may produce a verification error, leaving people in the same situation as before.

Release of Apple's 27" LED Cinema Display appears to be imminent
If you're holding out for Apple's new 27" LED Cinema Display, the wait might not be all that much longer. Back in July, the 27" model was announced with a September release date. Being that it's mid September, folks have been getting a little anxious with no sign of the new model, until now.

Verizon to light up LTE network in 30 "NFL cities" this year
We already knew Verizon was planning to hit one third of the country with LTE this year with plans to expand dramatically after that, but things are starting to come into sharper focus: the carrier today said that it'll light up 30 "NFL cities" with 4G by the end of the year. T-1 Day for Latin American, Chinese launch of iPad
Apple has announced that the iPad will be officially launched in five Latin American countries and China tomorrow, September 17, 2010.
The über-popular iPad will be available in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru starting tomorrow. In China, the Wi-Fi model is launching, while the Wi-Fi + 3G is listed on the online Chinese Apple Store as "Coming Soon."

ABC today put out the first mobile app known to sync directly with a live TV show. My Generation for the iPad (free, App Store) changes in real time with the TV show of the name through audio watermarking technology from Nielsen. Known for her salty language and according playing, Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz isn't your typical Internet executive. Along with other comments in a recent Reuters interview, Bartz stated that she felt Apple's iAd service was "going to fall apart for them," since "Apple wants total control over those ads."
Apple, of course, is known for having total control over a number of things: the design of its products, content in the App Store, development of apps, ad infinitum.

Intel sees computers carrying Light Peak only in 2012
Intel at the tail end of its Developer Forum said it didn't expect Light Peak to be shipping in computers or other devices until 2012. The chipsets to drive the fiber optic data link will be ready by late 2011, but system builders are unlikely to have complete systems that year. The remarks push back the technology back a year later than initially suggested, although Intel hasn't attributed any delays to the new schedule.

Boeing plans to add space tourism seats to its CST-100 flights by 2015
Boeing has announced plans to add space tourism to its CST-100 -- or Crew Space Transportation-100-- low orbit flights by 2015. Operated by a partnership with Space Adventures, the flights will be able to carry up to seven passengers about 62 miles above Earth's surface, and the craft are currently being developed with the help of NASA.The vehicles could also be used as a ferry to get people to and from the various space habitats companies are working away at. It ain't the first, but it's Kingston's first, regardless. The DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 is the company's first foray into the wild and blossoming world of high(er)-speed thumb drives, with this guy in particular pulling down read speeds of up to 80MB/sec and write speeds of 60MB/sec. It's available in a trio of sizes (16GB, 32GB and 64GB), with a five-year warranty affixed to each. Microsoft Metro mouse leaks out, promises BlueTrack for $20
Not a ton of details here, but Russian website TheVista.ru has turned up some seemingly legit materials for a hereto unheard of Metro Mouse from Microsoft, which is apparently a new addition to the company's BlueTrack line -- and Microsoft's latest use for the "Metro" name. At just $20, it'd also be the cheapest in the line and, like some of the other models, it's designed to be used either left or right-handed. Apple has deployed a series of software updates, including QuickTime 7.6.8, only available for Windows 7, Vista and XP SP2. Skyhook verklagt Google wegen Kartendienst-Abkommen mit Motorola

Ab morgen ist das iPad in weiteren Ländern der Erde verfügbar. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf Lateinamerika und China. Die schrittweise Erweiterung der globalen Verfügung des iPads geht somit weiter. Zeitungsabos auf iPad und iOS: Apple plant neues Abomodell
Apple soll laut Medienberichten bald ein neues Abo-Modell für Zeitungen vorstellen, das auf iPad, iPhone und iPod touch zum Einsatz kommen könnte. Bisher müssen Verlagshäuser auf In-App-Verkäufe zurückgreifen, um seinen Nutzern regelmäßig neue Ausgaben ihrer Veröffentlichungen zukommen zu lassen.

Zeitungsabos bald auf dem iPad?
Einem Bericht vom MercuryNews.com arbeitet Apple an einem Abonnement-Modell für das Lesen von Zeitungen und Zeitschriften auf dem iPad. Bisher war es nur vereinzelten Verlagshäusern wie der New York Times erlaubt, Zeitungsabos über den App Store zu verkaufen. Künftig soll diese Möglichkeit sämtlichen Verlagen offen stehen. Angeblich verlange Apple 30 Provision auf sämtliche Abo-Verkäufe (dies entspricht dem normalen Provisionssatz im App-Store) und eine 40-prozentige Umsatzbeteiligung an den durch die iPad-Version einer Zeitschrift generierten Werbeeinnahmen. Mit diesen Konditionen seien viele Verlagshäuser allerdings nicht glücklich, so der Bericht. Offenbar würde es dieses Provisionsmodell nahezu verunmöglichen, dass die Verlage die elektronischen Ausgaben ihrer Zeitungen lediglich als Zugabe zu herkömmlichen Zeitungsabos anbieten könnten. Zahlreiche Verlage würden lieber eine Fixgebühr an Apple entrichten. Trotzdem dürfte das Interesse seitens vieler Verlage an einem entsprechenden Abo-Modell für das iPad

Apple Pro Applications Update 2010-02 released
An Apple software update nearly sneaked by without notice yesterday. Pro Applications Update 2010-02 provides bug fixes and improvements and is recommended for users of Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Server, and Logic Studio. After the update, version numbers are listed as Final Cut Pro 7.0.3, Motion 4.0.3, Color 1.5.3, Compressor 3.5.3, and Apple QMaster 3.5.3. The Final Cut app updates include support for new cameras.
The update can be downloaded either through Software Update (where it will appear if you have one of the applications installed) or by going to the update Web page on the Apple site.

Apple kündigt AirPrint offiziell an
Wie Apple in einer Pressemitteilung bekannt gab, können registrierte Entwickler ab sofort eine Vorabversion von AirPrint testen. AirPrint ermöglicht drahtloses Drucken von iOS-Geräten aus und wird Bestandteil von iOS 4.2 sein. Um AirPrint zu verwenden, benötigt man entweder einen Mac/PC mit angeschlossenem Drucker oder einen HP-ePrint-Drucker. Letztere werden die ersten Drucker sein, die sich ohne dazwischen geschalteten Computer von einem iPhone oder iPad ansteuern lassen. iOS 4.2 bietet rudimentäre Einstellungsmöglichkeiten für die Druckfunktion. Man kann zwischen verschiedenen Druckern auswählen und bestimmen, welche Seiten eines Dokumentes ausgegeben werden sollen. Auch doppelseitiger Druck ist möglich.

Apple hat eine erste Beta-Version von iOS 4.2 für Entwickler freigegeben. iOS 4.2 soll im November für alle iOS-Geräte erscheinen. Für iPod-touch- und iPhone-Besitzer wird die Integration von AirPlay und AirPrint die einzige grössere Neuerung sein. Das iPad hingegen wird mit iOS 4.2 erstmals in den Genuss von Features wie Multitasking, Game Center und Ordnern (mit bis zu 20 Apps) kommen. Final Fantasy Tactics for iPhone delayed, Square Enix offers no explanation

Adobe's "Square" brings 64-bit Flash to Mac, Windows
Adobe today posted "Square," a preview version of 64-bit Flash available for Mac and Windows. Expanding on the original Linux port, it gives users of Mac OS X Snow Leopard's 64-bit mode and 64-bit x86 editions of Windows a truly native plugin instead of having to use a compatibility layer or nothing at all. Frankly, we've our doubts that this planet is even home to 47 different useful types of flash cards, but if you're Boy Scout instincts simply won't let you leave the house unprepared, there's Elecom's MR-A005. Samsung Galaxy Tab up on Amazon UK for equivalent of $1,063
As predicted earlier, Samsung's Galaxy Tab will be priced at significantly higher than its main competitor, Apple's iPad. The Galaxy Tab has shown up in an Amazon UK posting, revealing its price to be £680 with VAT, or about $1,063. The device in question uses a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU, matching the iPad's in terms of clock speed, and gets a 3G data radio, Bluetooth 3.0 and Android 2.2. It has 16GB of storage space and a 7-inch LCD, slightly smaller than the iPad's 9.7-inch display.

Shure has released three new pairs of high-end, sound-isolating in-ear headphones, including the single-driver SE315, dual-driver SE425 and triple-driver SE535. Skyhook sues Google for monopolizing Android geolocation
Skyhook on Wednesday sued Google for allegedly abusing its control over Android to exclude competitors for geolocation services. A Boston-based lawsuit accused Google of preventing Android phone makers from using Skyhook's positioning, such as its Wi-Fi triangulation, and instead requiring them to use Google's own. Motorola was supposedly forced to pull Skyhook from its devices to pass Google's compliance tests and wasn't even given the option of tuning the Skyhook software to meet the guidelines.

Google music service might offer subscriptions as well as digital downloads
We know that Google's been thinking about launching a music service, and now the crazy kids at Billboard are reporting details of a proposal that the search giant's been circulating among the major labels. Found Footage: iPod touch 4G goes head to head with iPhone 4
A site called Letem Svetem Applem has put together some comparison videos of performance between the iPhone 4 and the new iPod touch, and the results may surprise you. Oakley announces plans for line of 3D eyewear
We've already seen a few attempts at some premium 3D glasses, and it looks like you can now also count Oakley as being aboard the bandwagon. Wie es sich bereits kürzlich bei der D3100 abgezeichnet hat, verweigert sich Nikon offenbar dem Megapixel-Rennen nicht weiter: Die neu vorgestellte DSLR namens D7000 bewegt sich mit 16,2 Millionen Bildpunkten wieder auf dem Niveau der Konkurrenz, nachdem im Bereich des DX-Sensorformates lange bei 12 Megapixeln Schluss war.
