Yes, you could certainly accuse us of being easily pleased, but there's just something inherently awesome about hiding a giant touchpad remote in the otherwise boring box that controls your TV. At IDF 2010, we spotted a pair of new Intel CE4100 set-top boxes from ASUS and Acer respectively, running the brand-spanking-new Windows Media Center Embedded. Both were so early in development that they relied on external USB tuners to do their thing, but the Acer Revo 2 caught our eye when we saw the remote control and fancy ThinkPad styling. CBS News launches dedicated iPad app
iPad owners looking for CBS News content now have a free app for that. CBS is following the lead of ABC News with an app that caters to the dimensions of the iPad. The CBS News app features an easy to use interface that includes stories, images, videos and even various CBS News Twitter feeds.
Like much of TV news, there is a lot of stuff, but not much depth. Stories usually run just a few paragraphs, but sometimes there is some more welcome detail.
Many of the videos are from CBS owned CNET, but they are tech specific and appear to be there as filler. There is no local news, other than your local temperature, and every time you quit the app and come back in you have to tell the app to use you

New HP e-All-in-One printers make it easy to print from anywhere
HP recently announced two new wireless, web-connected All-in-One printers that provide features that are sure to make Apple owners happy. iTunes - the item you tried to buy is no longer available
I tried to update my iOS apps today using iTunes and was greeted with this error. Given that I had told iTunes to update all of the 60+ apps it told me were out of date, this was hardly helpful.
There are a lot of things wrong with this error message. First of all, it gives me absolutely no idea which app is not available. Second, I had asked iTunes which apps needed to be updated, and it told me that this Mystery App was out of date. How can it be out of date if it isn't available at all? Third, after telling me that this one application wasn't available, iTunes failed to update the other 60+ applications.
The prospect of manually updating them all was fairly annoying. As I looked through all of

Razer building motion-sensing exercise peripheral using Sixense tech, handheld sticks slated for 2011 (video)

Velocity Micro Cruz Reader hits stores, Cruz Tablet hitting in October along with more in January
Like everyone else, Velocity Micro's about to cannonball into the tablet pool with the hope of making a big splash. Its first product, the $199 Cruz Reader is already boxed up and arriving on store shelves this week. The seven-inch tablet / e-reader runs Android 2.0 and comes preloaded with Borders' e-book application. Sure, Intel's big push for its IDF 2010 keynote this morning was the new Sandy Bridge architecture, but within the confines of one awkwardly-presented tech demonstration, we got a glimpse at "Project X." Wi-Fi iPads will hit China on Sept. 17
Earlier today, Apple announced that the Wi-Fi enabled iPad will be available to customers in China via Apple Stores and authorized resellers on September 17th at 10:00 AM. Let the line ups begin!
As we saw in the US and elsewhere, Apple Store employees will offer a free setup service to anyone who buys an iPad in an Apple Store on launch day. This includes email setup, finding apps and so on. You know, the kind of stuff your relatives are always asking you to do.

Zune HD future may be revealed in October
Microsoft may share some of its plans for the future of the Zune HD at the same time as its mid-October launch for Windows Phone 7, an insider claimed today. With the addition of the Safari Extensions Gallery to Apple's website, TUAW is highlighting extensions that we think are special, useful, or just plain fun.
Today's extension highlight is Add to Reader by Richard Käll. Like most of the extensions we've highlighted so far, it makes one aspect of online life easier. Intel details Sandy Bridge, eight-core Xeons
Intel as expected used its Developer Forum keynote to detail Sandy Bridge, the architecture behind what Intel now calls its second generation of Core chips. The 32 nanometer chips use a new ring architecture that moves the graphics on to the chip itself and gives them to share cache with the core on virtually equal terms. Devine agrees to guard Apple secrets in kickback case
Apple supply manager Paul Shin Devine has agreed to a pretrial court order safeguarding the company's trade secrets, according to Bloomberg. Boxee Box switches from Tegra 2 to Atom, up for pre-sale
Boxee on Monday revealed that it's switching the Boxee Box away from the NVIDIA Tegra 2 platform to Intel's Atom CE4100 processor. The switch was described to Electronista as a form of future proofing; the company wants to guarantee 1080p HD streaming for the future as well as today, Boxee said. Apple confirms Chinese iPad launch for September 17th
Apple has announced that the iPad will finally reach China later this week, going on sale at 10AM local time on September 17th. Buyers will have to visit one of the country's two Apple Stores, or else an authorized retailer. The launch is also being restricted to Wi-Fi models, priced at 3,988 yuan ($588) for 16GB, 4,788 yuan ($706) for 32GB and 5,588 yuan ($824) for 64GB.

Panasonic today provided the first solid launch details for the first Micro Four Thirds camcorder. Called the AF105 in Japan, the previously revealed AF100 is due to reach its home country in December for the equivalent of $9,974 for a body-only version. Analyst: iPad to sell 28m in 2011, impacting PC market
Both All Things D and AppleInsider report that, according to the analyst Maynard Um at UBS Investment research, the iPad is having a negative impact on the PC market. In a note to his clients, the analyst Um says, "Sales of traditional notebooks appear to be feeling pressure from the iPad, causing a scramble by vendors to launch iPad-like tablets. Aus Epoxit, einem Brillenglas und einer Miniklinke baute der Bastler sich den Objektivaufsatz, wobei die Zweckentfremdung des Klinkensteckers besonders gut gelungen ist, da so das dran- und abmahen besonders leicht ist. YouTube testing live video streaming
YouTube this morning made its live streaming plans official with word that it would start trials. The approach works through a user's existing YouTube channel and follows the same approach as a service like Justin.tv, Qik or Ustream: users need only a FireWire or USB video camera and have access to live comments for any ongoing show. It's not stated but is implied that finished shows will be archived as regular YouTube clips.

Adobe add-on enables HTML5 in Illustrator
Adobe has released a new plugin for Illustrator CS5, the HTML5 Pack. In combination with Dreamweaver CS5 11.0.3, the pack aids in producing interactive layouts for the web and portable devices based on HTML5 and CSS3. The add-on also extends Illustrator's SVG support; HTML5 and CSS3 compatibility is in fact described as "initial," not to be finalized for "some time."

Rumor: iPad to hit Target in October
This is hardly definitive proof, but it's still interesting. A tipster has sent Engadget some snapshots suggesting that a new electronic device will hit Target shelves (Target is a department store in the US) on October.
The mystery item (its name is hidden) comes is six variations, with item numbers that match the iPad price points exactly. Additionally, screenshots from a Target PDA have the item placed in the store's Digitial Audio section, which is where the Kindle and iPods are sold.
Could it be the iPad? It's possible, but these weak images won't let us say definitively. We'll find out on October 3rd, the day it's supposed to go down.

The HDR race continues as TrueHDR gets updated
We've been keeping a close eye on the race for the best HDR (high dynamic range) photo app for the iPhone. In my latest survey, I advised that progress would be fast as paid apps move to compete with the free Apple HDR software, and that's what's happened.

FaceTime bald auf Macs und iPads?
FaceTime, Apples mit dem iPhone 4 eingeführte Videotelefonie-Technologie, könnte bald auch mit iPads und Macs funktionieren. Dies berichten Fortune und AppleInsider. Geplant ist offenbar eine Integration des FaceTime-Protokolls in iChat. Damit wäre es möglich, Videotelefonie-Gespräche zwischen einem iPhone oder iPod touch und einem Mac zu führen. Auch das iPad dürfte in Apples Überlegungen rund um FaceTime eine Rolle spielen. Gemäss AppleInsider arbeitet Apple intensiv an der zweiten iPad-Generation, welche eine FaceTime-Kamera besitzen soll. Gamevil's new action RPG HYBRID 2 is an excellent game, but it's not one that I would recommend for just anyone to pick up. We've spotlighted plenty of great casual games and apps here on the Daily App, but HYBRID 2 doesn't fit in that category. Microsoft bringing Windows Phone 7 to some languages without Xbox Live or Zune?
Microsoft has already gone on record saying that Windows Phone 7 will be initially launching in just five languages, all with essentially the same easy character set -- English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish -- but they're undoubtedly champing at the bit to ramp that list up to a few more. In fact, the latest word on the street is that they're going to be cutting a bunch of corners on those additional tongues, presumably in an effort to get them on shelves sooner rather than later. Nur wenige Tage nach der Ernennung von Microsoft-Manager Stephen Elop zum neuen Nokia-CEO hat Vorstandsmitglied Anssi Vanjoki seinen Rücktritt eingereicht. Nachdem Nokia-Boss Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo vom Aufsichtsrat auf die Straße gestellt wurde, packt auch Smartphone-Chef Anssi Vanjoki seine Koffer und verlässt den finnischen Handygiganten, aber freiwillig. Erst im Mai 2010 wurde er zum Manager der Mobile Solutions-Sparte ernannt. Nun suche er bereits nach "neuen Herausforderungen" wie es ja mal gerne in indifferenten Pressemitteilungen heißt. Es ist über zwei Jahre her, dass wir einen Field Recorder von Kenwood mitgeschnitten haben und gehen fest davon aus, dass sich in der Zwischenzeit einiges getan hat. Aber bitte. Der neue "Media Keg" MGR-E8 kommt in schwarz und rot, ist mit drei Mikrofonen ausgestattet, zeichnet mit 96kHz/24Bit hoffentlich ausgezeichnet auf und ist mit gerade mal 87 Gramm anständig leicht. Die 2GB Speicher dürften allerdings ratzfatz voll sein, drum empfehlen wir definitiv eine SDHC-Karte in den entsprechenden Slot zu stecken. Zeitnah in japan zu haben.

Office for Mac 2011 erscheint am 26. Oktober
Nach zweieinhalbjähriger Entwicklung hat Office for Mac 2011 den «Release to Manufacturing»-Status erreicht. Die neuste Version von Microsofts Bürosuite wird am 26. Oktober für Mac OS X erscheinen. Mit Office 2011 verabschiedet sich Microsoft von der 2008 eingeführten Benutzeroberfläche mit der Projektgalerie und setzt stattdessen auf das «Ribbon»-Konzept. In seinen Grundzügen wird Office 2011 wieder stärker der Windows-Version gleichen. Nach zehn Jahren beinhaltet Office erstmals wieder Microsoft Outlook, welches das wenig erfolgreiche Entourage ersetzt. Des weiteren arbeitet Office 2011 nahtlos mit Microsofts Web-Apps zusammen und bietet umfangreiche Kollaborationstools, um gemeinsam an ein und demselben Dokument zu arbeiten. Ausserdem kehrt Visual Basic zurück auf die Mac-Plattform, nachdem Microsoft die VBA-Unterstützung in Office 2008 gestrichen hatte.

Bereits 50’000 iPads in der Schweiz verkauft
Mit dem iPad hat Apple offenbar auch in der Schweiz einen Hit gelandet. Wie der Tagesanzeiger unter Berufung auf den Branchenkenner Robert Weiss berichtet, wurden in der Schweiz bis anhin schätzungsweise 50’000 iPads verkauft, auf ein ganzes Jahr hochgerechnet entspräche dies rund 170’000 Geräten. Zum Vergleich: Nachdem 2008 die ersten Netbooks auf den Markt kamen, wurden im ersten Jahr rund 60’000 Geräte abgesetzt.
Besonders beliebt sind offenbar die Modelle mit 3G-Unterstützung und viel Speicher. Das teuerste iPad-3G-Modell mit 64 Gigabyte Speicher verkauft sich Händlerberichten zufolge ähnlich häufig wie alle anderen Modelle zusammen.

Sanyo: Zwei Camcorder mit 10-Megapixel-Fotofunktion
Sanyo hat zwei neue Camcorder vorgestellt, die mit ihrem CMOS-Sensor im Format 1/2,33 Zoll neben Videos in Full-HD (1080i) auch Fotos mit 10 Megapixeln aufnehmen können. Während der Videoaufnahme reduziert sich die Fotoauflösung allerdings auf 8,3 Megapixel. Der Unterschied zwischen der Xacti GH3 und der Xacti CG21 liegt beim Design. (Bildstabilisierung, Sanyo)

Panasonic announces AF105 Four Thirds camcorder, interchangeable lenses not included
The splicing of video and stills cameras continues unabated today, as Panasonic has just outed a serious-looking piece of photographic hardware. The AF105 is the world's first camcorder to offer a Four Thirds-sized sensor and provides 1080/60i or 1080/30p AVCHD video recording skills, while matching up to the growing selection of glassware for cameras like the G2 and GH1. SDHC and SDXC storage cards are accepted and there's a note that Micro Four Thirds and "cinema" lenses can also be fitted on via extra adapters. The price is set at ¥837,900 (about $9,960) and launch is expected this December.

Mushihimesama BUG PANIC für iPhone angekündigt
CAVE ist bekannt für seine Vertical-Shooter-Spiele. 2 Portierungen davon werden bereits im App Store angeboten. Nun soll offenbar im Herbst 2010 ein weiterer Titel namens Mushihimesama BUG PANIC folgen, der auf iOS-Devices sein Debüt feiert.

Microsoft antipiracy efforts caught up in Russian political scandal
Microsoft's long taken aggressive steps to curb the rampant piracy of its software in Europe, but it seems like things have gotten a little out of hand: a new report in the New York Times today says Russian authorities are using piracy "investigations" as a pretext for seizing computers and other materials from political opponents of the government and news organizations. iPad may reach Target Oct. 3 to take on Kindle
Apple may make an aggressive inroad into the Amazon Kindle's territory with an expansion into Target stores if a leak is true. Six versions of a mystery device have appeared in Target's inventory system, all of which line up with Apple's iPad pricing and which would show up October 3.
