Apple acts to boost high-end App sales in iTunes 9
Apple made a host of improvements to iTunes within iTunes 9, but at least one of those is going to be of huge benefit to a key category of the company’s stakeholders - Apps developers.
The company has introduced a new App Store chart for the most profitable applications, which it has dubbed, the ‘Top Grossing’ chart.
This is going to benefit some of its developers, as it joins the ‘Top Paid’ and ‘Top Free’ apps lists it already offers through the App Store.
What sets this list apart is that it ranks applications by the amount of revenue they generate, which should help ensure more expensive applications

First look: iTunes 9
Apple regularly promises that each whole-digit iTunes revision is a major overhaul, but in most cases these are add-ons to the existing framework rather than genuine redesigns. Some have complained that this has gradually led iTunes into feature creep, especially at the iTunes Store: the sheer number of features has meant wading through the interface to get at what used to be simple tasks. iTunes 9 theoretically promises the best of both worlds; we're taking a first look to see if the claims live up to expectations.

App Store gets ESPN Fantasy Football, Madden NFL 10
Several new football-themed apps have been added to the app store, ESPN Fantasy Football and Madden NFL 10. The Fantasy Football title allows players to control and manage their ESPN teams and leagues directly from the mobile device. Users can access live scores and stats, configure personalized alerts, or post on a league message board.

"It's only Rock and Roll" show wrapup
Shows over, some will be happy, others will have had higher expectations*.
The biggest expectations were for the iPod touch. Those who hoped for a camera were probably unhappy at the results today. The iPod touch got a faster, double memory for the price sized 64GB and 32GB version and the 8GB version got dropped to $199 from $229. No camera or anything else it appears. This lends credence to the HardMac reports of delays. We're not telling you what to do, but you might want to wait a few months on any iPod Touch purchases.
The iPod Shuffle got colors and some headphones compatibility.
The Classic got a bump in size to 160GB.

iTunes LP demo from Apple keynote appears
Having rushed back from the European briefing, got to say the general consensus is that while the new improvements in iTunes look good, and while the iPod nano has been given some great new features, most felt a little underwhelmed.
One thing that did strike many in the place - if Apple can add a video camera and microphone to the iPod nano at such a low cost that it has been able to pretty much maintain existing price points, why on earth did it neglect to introduce this in the iPod touch? Particularly as that product's WiFi connectivity could make this one amazing video cam

Sure, sure, the kids are all excited about iTunes LP and their fancy "lyrics" and "album art." You know what we're psyched about? Finally being able to manage our iPhone apps directly from iTunes 9. It works pretty much exactly as you'd expect, although we were able to make it do some minorly wonky things -- and we're psyched about the AutoFill-esque music sync feature that fills any remaining space on your phone with music.We're also pumped about the new Home Sharing fearture in iTunes 9, which lets you transfer content between five different machines directly without screwing around with network shares or USB drives. We've seriously been waiting for a feature like this since iTunes sharing was first launched -- it also works

Adobe updates Adobe TV, posts ADAA finalists
Adobe has posted a revised version of its Adobe TV website for developers. The site provides video training for various Adobe titles, such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash Catalyst. More significant changes include a resizable pop-up window, which allows for videos and programs to be viewed simultaneously. A reorganized homepage is claimed to provide faster access to episodes, with options for sorting by popularity, rating or date.

Sony's new BDP-N460 Blu-ray player adds access to internet content
What you're looking at here is the latest addition to the Sony Blu-ray family. The BDP-N460 seemingly fits right in between the BDP-S360 and the BDP-S560 with an MSRP of $249. What sets it apart from its little brother is the fact that it can use its included network jack for more than just BD-Live and it features a USB port on the front, in addition to the one on the back for optional BD-Live storage. There's no built in WiFi or MKV support like other brands though, but it is shipping with access to YouTube and to Bravia Internet Video, and in addition Sony promises

Sony goes in a cheaper direction with wireless XBR10 BRAVIA LCDs
Proudly rocking the XBR10 nameplate, this is the latest Sony BRAVIA (peep the video from its Japanese launch), though the potential to be greatest is up for debate. These 52- and 42-inch models skip over the company's well received (but expensive) Triluminos LED technology for cheaper edge lit LEDs like Samsung. Sony brings projectors for everyone with VPL-VW85 & VPL-HW15
Along with the rest of its CEDIA 2009 announcements, Sony will be showing off new projectors. Up first is the VPL-VW85 which one ups the exiting VPL-VW70 and VPL-VW80 (pictured) models by combining the company's 120Hz Motionflow frame insertion tech, 120,000:1 contrast ratio, 800 ANSI lumens, RS-232C and an anamorphic zoom lens in an $8,000 package. If that's too rich for your blood, the VPL-HW15 offers a spec bump over the VPL-HW10 with 60,000:1 contrast ratio and a lower initial MSRP at just $2,800 when both of these launch in October.

Apple announced today the availability of iTunes in its version 9. It brings support for all new products and features announced during the Special Event by Steve, Phil and others. You can dowload it, it weights 82 MB.
among the news eatures, iTunes LP will be bring the bonus feaures usually found on a physical CD (jackets, bonus, lyrics, etc.). iTunes Store will now also include bonus usually found with the physical version of a movie on DVD. The function Home Sharing makes sharing on a local neetwork (finally) as easy as clicking on a button (limited to 5 computers). It will then help you to maintain an iTunes mibrary always up to date on your local computers.
Browsing the iTunes Store has also been revised as well as parameters for synchronization of music, movies, applications and more on your iPhone/iPod. Last but not least, Genius Mix will help you to generate better playlists.

Im Vorfeld wurde es für eher unwahrscheinlich gehalten, dass Steve Jobs die Präsentation leiten wird. PDFGarden 3.0 adds real-time previews, QuickTime support
SQLabs has updated its Mac PDF management software, PDFGarden, to v3.0. The utility combines, transforms, arranges and reorders multiple PDF documents via drag-and-drop adjustments. Thousands of PDF files can be managed at a time, and documents themselves can contain thousands of pages. It utilizes Apple's Preview app and Quartz rendering technology.

Nokia putting foot down on Maemo, won't allow carrier customizations
Google and Apple have both managed to wrest a great deal of control over the mobile user experience from carriers over the past couple of years -- cheers to that, by the way -- and now Nokia's decided it wants a piece of that action with the introduction of Maemo 5 and the N900, which it says will be free of the branding that Symbian products frequently get subjected to. QuickTime 7.6.4 fixes video, FlashPix exploits
In tandem with iTunes 9, Apple has released QuickTime 7.6.4, a minor update to its signature AV playback software. The patch primarily fixes problems with H.264 and/or MPEG-4 playback, which exposed systems to crashes or arbitrary code execution. H.264 vulnerabilities were connected to memory corruption and heap buffer overflows, while an MPEG-4 flaw involved conventional buffer overflows.

iPhone 3.1 firmware addresses security vulnerabilities
The latest iPhone firmware, announced during Apple's music-themed media event, addresses a variety of security vulnerabilities. Previous releases had allowed unauthorized use of a device after a timeout period configured by an Exchange administrator. The system now disables any "Require Passcode" values greater than the maximum inactivity time lock setting, eliminating the time gap.

Eigentlich sehr treffend wurde der neue iPod nano der fünften Generation vorhergesagt. Der nano hat wie erwartet eine Kamera bekommen und sieht auf dem ersten Blick seinem Vorgänger ziemlich ähnlich. LG details LED-backlit SL90 TVs for the US

Here we go again: round umpteen of the fight to break and re-enable Pre syncing with iTunes is now underway thanks to the release of iTunes 9, and we're sure there's plenty more where this came from. Postbox has launched a new self-named, Mozilla-based e-mail application. The software features fast searches using operators, and a text preview mode. Content tabs allow quicker access to attachments, images, links and contacts. Dell teases 0.4in Adamo XPS ultraportable
Dell today quietly put up a teaser site for the Adamo XPS. While it gives few clues, the site touts a 9.99mm (under 0.4in) thickness that would make it far thinner than the Adamo 13 and significantly thinner than the MacBook Air the Adamo series has often fought against. Dell teases new ultrathin Adamo XPS
We've seen some thin laptops in our day, but 9.99mm is pretty dang thin (thinner than an iPhone, in fact). There's no other info on this new Adamo, and Dell is calling it the "9.99mm Design Concept," which doesn't really help us know how far along it is. Bewertung der heutigen Neuvorstellungen
Die Gerüchteküche lag in diesem Jahr in den meisten Punkten richtig, daher gab es keine großen Überraschungen. Revolutionen blieben bei den neuen iPods aus, stattdessen nahm Apple wieder zahlreiche Detailverbesserungen vor. Preislich stellt Apple die iPod-Modellpalette noch attraktiver als zuvor auf. No new iPod Touch
Show wrapup. The biggest expectations were for the iPod touch. Those who hoped for a camera were probably unhappy at the results today. The iPod touch got a faster, double memory for the price sized 64GB and 32GB version and the 8GB version got dropped to $199 from $229. No camera or anything else it appears.
The iPod Shuffle got colors and some headphones compatibility.
The Classic got a bump in size to 160GB
The Nano got the most improvements with that camera that was expected. Video, stills, a mic, and some new apps like voicenotes and Pedometer. Very nice additions for Nano customers.
iTunes got an overhaul which was nice and expected. iTunes LP we're looking forward to playing with, though not with the Beatles. We're downloading it now.

Apple today announced the fifth-generation iPod nano, a radical revision of its compact media player. The device now has a built-in video camera, validating earlier rumors. Owners can record clips and sync them with iTunes, and then optionally upload them to YouTube. Apple intros iPod touch without built-in camera
Apple today at its "Rock & Roll" music event launched the third-generation iPod touch (not yet shown). The media player now has the same processing power as the iPhone 3GS and is up to about 50 percent faster than the older model and supports the same OpenGL ES 2.0 visual effects. UK iTunes Store confirms iTunes LP early
The "Cocktail" format was rumored to be one of the announcements Apple was to make at Wednesday's iPod event, but it appears to have been launched early in the form of iTunes LP. An image was posted in the MacRumors forums which offered a brief description of the new format. On top of the usual songs, the albums also include animated lyrics and liner notes, photos, videos, and additional visual media content. Microsoft announced on Wednesday that it has teamed with UK-based retailer Tesco to bring out a new service that will provide customers with DVD-quality movies delivered to them over the web using Microsoft's Silverlight technology. Microsoft caught influencing Best Buy sales people
AI got a bunch of screengrabs of Microsoft's new ExpertZone "training courses" that were given to Best Buy employees. The role of the "course" is clear - to convince customers that may be looking for a Mac or a Linux computer to drop that notion and instead get a PC. They even "reward" employees with a $10 copy of Windows 7 for taking the re-education camp training.
We know this is how Microsoft plays the game, but it is surprising to see Best Buy in on the act. Imagine if you are looking for a stereo or a refrigerator? Are the salespeople going to steer you toward the best product or one that they are getting paid to send you towards? Now we know the answer. In our mind, Best Buy lost any credibility they may have once had.

iPod price changes imply delay in new iPod shipping
Something strange happened this morning. Before (not during) an Apple event, the store went down briefly and iPod prices dropped significantly. As far as we can remember, this hasn't ever happened before.
We think that it lends some credibility to earlier reports that iPods may have seen some manufacturing issues and have been pushed back (toward October) or be available in limited numbers initially. It may also mean that the current iPods may stick around for awhile even as the new iPods are introduced - in much the same way that iPhones 3g and 3GS are now both being sold.

Rock 'n' roll surprise: Apple TV to get a browser?
We’ve been told not to expect an Apple TV at today’s Apple event, and speculation has pretty much moved away from the device, now an analyst has re-ignited the discussion, voicing his opinion the Apple TV will gain Web browsing in a software update.

Reports have surfaced that iCal calendar events that contain all-day events are having issues when publishing to MobileMe. The issues appear to be related to Snow Leopard's version of iCal. Nokia to echo Apple's anti-carrier software stance
Nokia will mirror Apple's approach to carrier software with all of its Maemo Linux-based smartphones, the company said on Wednesday. Finder crashes when folder containing certain JPEG images is opened
There is a problem some people are noticing with how Snow Leopard handles some JPEG images. When these images are viewed using built-in image rendering technologies, the application presenting them will crash. Harman Kardon today brought out a trio of new AV receivers that, in one case, may hint at future iPod features. The AVR 3600 comes with a new Bridge III universal dock that the company claims can play HD videos directly from an iPhone or iPod. Last minute Apple rumor roundup: iPhone HD video out, no new iPod touch?
Okay, we're in the final countdown to Apple's Only Rock and Roll event, and some interesting bits of info have hit the wires while we're waiting. First, AppleInsider claims a "historically reliable source" has leaked the entire new lineup of iPods, complete with model numbers, and it's somewhat surprising if true: not only do capacities remain the same apart from a 160GB iPod classic, the iPod touch is absent from the list -- leading some to believe its upgrade has been delayed due to rumored technical issues with the camera module. Leica unveils X1, M9 semi-pro cameras
Leica today added two long-anticipated upgrades to its more compact cameras. The X1 shares the rangefinder-like design of most Leicas but is deliberately designed as a cross between these and compact cameras: it has a fixed f2.8, 36mm equivalent lens but an APS-C sized, 12-megapixel CMOS sensor that the company bills as the largest ever in a compact. The combination of a zoomless prime lens and the large photo receptors give the camera a DSLR-like sensitivity to light (ISO 100 to 3,200) and reduced noise.

Microsoft intros ultra-thin Bluetooth keyboard
Microsoft on Wednesday announced the upcoming release of its thinnest Bluetooth keyboard to date, the Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000. At its thickest, the keyboard is only a few millimeters thicker than an AAA battery, but it also tapers down at the front. ZVOX intros three speaker bar sound systems
ZVOX late Tueday added new home theater speaker systems to its lineup, including the high-performance 430 and 440 sound bars along with the IncrediBase 575. All are one-bar speakers without any separate satellites or a remote subwoofer, with all drivers built into one cabinet. AT&T details first 7.2Mbps cities, will skip HSPA+
AT&T this morning provided more definite plans for its promised rollout of 7.2Mbps 3G on its network. Only six cities will receive the upgraded HSPA-based network this year and will focus mostly on the southern US: Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Miami will all see the doubled download speeds at first. Expansion in 2010 will have 25 of the 30 largest markets receive the update, while about 90 percent of AT&T's entire service will have been upgraded in 2011.

iPod price changes imply delay in new iPod shipping
Something strange happened this morning. Before (not during) an Apple event, the store went down briefly and iPod prices dropped significantly. As far as we can remember, this hasn't ever happened before.
We think that it lends some credibility to earlier reports that iPods may have seen some manufacturing issues and have been pushed back (toward October) or be available in limited numbers initially. It may also mean that the current iPods may stick around for awhile even as the new iPods are introduced - in much the same way that iPhones 3g and 3GS are now both being sold.

We wouldn't want to jump to conclusions, but Archos might just be onto something with its upcoming 9pctablet, which is due to launch alongside Windows 7. The Windows 7 bit isn't an accident, since it's really the first OS from Microsoft that makes it conceivable to use much of the OS with a finger, rather than the stylus. It's not all there, of course: Archos had to build its own touchscreen keyboard to replace Microsoft's woefully inadequate implementation, and there's an optical mouse sensor on the side of the display and a stylus buried within to pick up the slack. Apple Cuts Prices of iPod Models... in USA Only
While many analysts and customers were expecting the new iPods to be announced and released this evening during the Special Event, the US Apple Store has been updated during the night, and prices of all iPod models dramatically decreased. The 32 GB iPod nano is 129 USD cheaper, while the price of the default entry level model is 40 USD lower: 8 GB for 129 USD and 16 GB for 149 USD. The iPod Classic now cost 229 USD.
This price cut might change the way the iPod offer will evolve, and one can expect the new model featuring an integrated camera to become high-end products. It could also indicate that the main subject of today's event might well be the availability of the Beatles' album collection on iTunes.

Logitech this morning countered the launch of Beatles: Rock Band with the launch of three music game controllers, including its first two for the Wii. Microsoft influencing Best Buy sales people
AI got a bunch of screengrabs of a Microsoft's new ExpertZone "training courses" that were given to Best Buy employees. The role of the "course" is clear - to convince customers that may be looking for a Mac or a Linux computer to drop that notion and instead get a PC. They even "reward" employees with a $10 copy of Windows 7 for taking the re-education camp training.
We know this is how Microsoft plays the game, but it is surprising to see Best Buy in on the act. Imagine if you are looking for a stereo or a refrigerator? Are the salespeople going to steer you toward the best product or one that they are getting paid to send you towards? Now we know the answer. In our mind, Best Buy lost any credibility they may of once had.

Photos of New iPods?
While the price of the iPod Touch has been substantially decreased, supporting our report of a delay for the release of the new model due to technical problems, the manufacturer of iPod enclosures Cygnett published photos illustrating the design of new iPod models:
One can clearly identify the camera in the back of the iPod Touch, as well as the much larger display of the iPod nano. However, we suspect those photos to be concept designed from the dimensions and shape provided by Apple. Indeed, Cupertino never provides photos of hte final product priori its launch to third parties.

Western Digital ships 640GB notebook drive
Western Digital this morning began shipping the 640GB Scorpio Blue, one of the first drives above 500GB to fit in most notebooks. It uses two 320GB platters to reach its capacity while still measuring 9.5mm thick and thus thin enough to fit in particularly slim portables like the MacBook Pro. As a Blue series drive, it's aimed at the mainstream and spins at 5,400RPM with an 8MB cache.

IFA: Samsung stellt 24- und 27-Zoll-HD-Displays mit TV-Tuner vor
Samsung hat auf der heute endenden Internationalen Funkausstellung in Berlin zwei Bildschirme vorgestellt. Apple cuts most iPod prices ahead of event
Apple in a rare move this morning dropped the prices of most iPods at the online Apple Store ahead of today's special music event. The iPod touch has received the largest drop and now costs just $279 for a 32GB model, $249 for a 16GB model and $189 for an 8GB version. The iPod nano has received more modest drops from $199 to $149 for a 16GB edition and from $149 to $129 for 8GB versions. The iPod classic has also received a mild price cut to $229 from $249.

Real Time Communications: Per iPhone auf den MS OCS
Als "iDialog" hat Modality Systems im August einen iPhone-Client für Microsofts Office Communications Server 2007 (OCS) im App Store verfügbar gemacht. Somit können Unternehmen jetzt die Groupware-Funktionen des OCS nicht nur Endgeräten unter Windows Mobile, sondern auch für iPhones bereitstellen. Dazu gehören Kontaktliste inkl. Verfügbarkeitsinfo und weitere Datenbankeinträge. Aus der Anwendung heraus können Teilnehmer angewählt oder angemailt werden, auch Chats sind möglich. Der App Store wird oft und viel kritisiert. Die Gründe für das Ablehnen von Apps sind oft nicht nachvollziehbar. So war es auch beim C64 Emulator für das iPhone. Trotz vorheriger Nachfrage, ob die App grundsätzlich zugelassen werden kann, wurde sie abgelehnt. Ein Raunen geht durch die iPhone/iPod Touch Community. Unverständnis macht sich breit.

Das iPhone überzeugt durch einen hohen praktischen Nutzen verbunden mit einer faszinierenden, innovativen Bedienung. C64 iPhone App pulled after Easter Egg BASIC Interpreter revealed
This is an interesting development. Manomio went though all of the App Store hurdles to get the C64 app approved over the past months. This included all of the complex licensing issues and slicing out one of the coolest features, the BASIC interpreter, that a lot of us had our first programming experience on.

How much storage do you need for Time Machine back-ups? Added to which, how much do you use for casual back-ups and your iTunes library? Perhaps a Terabyte or two?
Interesting then is a late night Cult of Mac report which suggests some MobileMe users are seeing their iDIsk storage capacity seemingly raised to 2TB. We’ve checked our own accounts and these still read 10GB, and the comments in Leander Kahney’s story suggest these 2TB storage explosions are isolated incidents, at best, that’s if they’re true at all.

iPhone UK: Orange and T-Mobile merge in Apple power play
France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom have announced plans to combine their UK Orange and T-Mobile operations, part of a dash to convince Apple to grant the operators rights to distribute the iPhone.
T-Mobile and Orange hope their merger to create Britain’s largest mobile phone network will enable them to win the rights to the handset. The combination beats Apple’s current iPhone partner, O2, into becoming the UK’s second network.

Gene Munster: AAPL to drop tomorrow "due to lack of Surprising Announcements"
Gene Munster isn't expecting any surprise announcements at tomorrow's "It's only Rock and Roll" event. He says that even though iPhone sales have been strong (best sellers on AT&T), the lack of surprises will disappoint Apple investors. Livepanel coverage of the "It's only rock and roll" event
We're rolling out our good ol' fashioned 9to5mac Livepanel which will be circulating the best feeds throughout the iPod event. As you might remember, this framed page shows four of the best feeds at once and is refreshed every 15-30 seconds so your mouse button finger doesn't have to bleed. It works best on large (24"+) monitors and uses 1990's html frames technology to bring sweet, sweet iPod camera information to your eyes as quickly as possible.

Palm releases Pixie ahead of iPod event
Palm, as of midnight, took the wraps off of its new Candybar (not slider) smartphone for Sprint now officially dubbed the Pixie. Yes, September 9th is a great date to release a product but they might not get all of the PR they are after. Apple Helps You to Setup your Mail Accounts
Apple launched an interesting initiative. It offers procedures to setup and configure your Mail account, a task not necessarily easy for all users, especially if pop, imap or smtp servers does not ring a bell for you. All information can be found hereafter: http://www.apple.com/support/macosx/mailassistant
You then have to enter the email address that will help Apple to identify the ISP and the associated services and servers used. If the procedure is only available in english and supposed to be working only in USA, it works fine with 3 French ISPs (Free, Orange or SFR).

A CPU Running on ... Air
Some scientists successfully developed a processor working thanks to compressed air. Transistors are replaced by chambers and gates, and beside what you could initially thought, it works. They successfully developed CPUs with 2, 4, 6 and 8 bits, and made them running some operations.
The goal or target of such CPU remains unclear, so it is so far only a nice proof of concept.

The game was originally released for the iPhone and iPod touch and delivers an arcade-style design with 2D, side-scrolling gameplay and 3D graphics. BlackBerry Bold Onyx officially set for T-Mobile launch
T-Mobile has allegedly confirmed its plans to launch RIM's BlackBerry Bold 9700, known as the Onyx, sometime before the end of the year. The smartphone will support the carrier's UMA Wi-Fi calling service, available using HotSpot@Home, according to CIO. Press photos appear to confirm that RIM has omitted a trackball in favor of an optical pad.

RAmos' Q25ihi touchscreen PMP hits Korea under MuMu Music brand
If there's one thing RAmos hasn't been fond of lately it's buttons, and it looks like it's not about to change its ways with this new Q25ihi player, which keeps things about as simple (and familiar) as can be. It doesn't look like the company is cutting too many corners with the parts this time around, however, as the player apparently sports a 3.1-inch capacitive display, along with a G-Sensor for screen rotation and "retro flexion functions," a built-in FM tuner and transmitter, support for all the usual audio / video formats, and capacities ranging from a mere 1GB to 16GB. No word on a price just yet, but it looks like the player should now be available in Korea under RAmos' MuMu Music brand, and will soon be available in China

Quirky announces Scratch-n-Scroll mousepad
Quirky has announced a new product for its line of computer accessories, the Scratch-n-Scroll mousepad. Unlike regular mousepads the device features an integrated writing surface that allows users to write small notes and reminders using just there finger, or the built-in plastic stylus. Users can then erase the writing simply by flipping the semi-transparent top sheet. The mousepad also comes with a non-slip backing to prevent the pad from moving around while writing or using the mouse.

Synology has released Disk Station Manager 2.2, an update to its cross platform file-sharing and data storing app that was previously available as a beta program. Packard Bell debuts 15.6-inch EasyNote Butterfly m laptop
Well, we didn't get a chance to check it out first hand at IFA, but Packard Bell did make a showing of its own at the show, and took the opportunity to debut this new EasyNote Butterfly m laptop. Slipped story: Yoko Ono confirms Beatles on iTunes
Despite reports that Apple will not make an announcement relating to Beatles music on iTunes, Sky News appears to have accidentally slipped a contradictory report which includes a confirmation from Yoko Ono. Although the story was quickly pulled, the headline and first paragraph remain in Google's cache. If the report is accurate, Jon Lennon's wife claims the band's works will, in fact, be featured on Apple's music portal.

HTC claims Tattoo's screen is too small for capacitive to work well
For full-touch mobile use, capacitive touchscreens are the best solution we've got -- and it has absolutely nothing to do with the iPhone, it has to do with the incremental improvement in usability brought about by near-100 percent touch registration. That's a big deal, because even a 5 percent loss of registration on an on-screen QWERTY keyboard would represent roughly one letter missed every five words (assuming an average word length in the English langauge of just over 5 letters). Resistive screens have many, many totally valid applications, but put simply, phones aren't one of them; they've been outmoded by a different technology that's more appropriate for the size and use that the average handset sees. Sprint support site says webOS 1.2 coming today, releases patch notes
According to Sprint's official support pages, webOS 1.2.0 is officially heading out of the stable sometime today. There's lots of minor tweaks and updates here, a hefty refinement of the current system -- but a few of you already know that. Lack of iPhone SMS character counter frustrates users

Facebook for Android hits the Market, still playing a bit of catch up
Well, it's taken a little while, but it looks like Android users now have a Facebook app to call their own. As you might expect from an initial release, however, the app is a bit less full featured than some of its counterparts and, judging from the few initial comments, a bit buggy. The good news is that you'll be able to do all the basics like share status updates, check your news feed, look at your friends' walls, and even check up to 125 of your friends' phone numbers straight from the home screen. Neue iPods
Daran zweifelt eigentlich niemand mehr: Apple dürfte heute Abend die neuen Generationen des iPod touch und iPod nano vorstellen. Aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach haben beide Geräte zukünftig eine 3,2 MP Kamera an Bord, Verkaufsstart der Geräte nach Möglichkeit gleich - allerdings kursieren Gerüchte über eine Verzögerung aufgrund technischer Probleme.
Aus für den iPod classic?
Möglicherweise wird heute mit dem iPod classic der letzte Festplatten-iPod aus dem Programm genommen. Diverse Gerüchte deuten darauf hin, allerdings war aus Händlerkreisen zu vernehmen, dass sich der iPod-Opa zuletzt ganz ordentlich verkauft hat - dies spräche gegen ein Aus für den Classic.

Sprint backtracks, cancels $100 Pre service credit offer
No idea kind of Zima-based shenanigans are going on in Sprint's marketing department today, but that less-than-impressive $100 Palm Pre service credit promotion was all apparently a mistake, according to John Paczkowski at the Wall Street Journal. Sprint says the promotion was put into the system by error and has since been pulled and canceled, although customers who signed up during the glorious six hours the deal was live will still get the credit -- and if you act fast enough, you might still be able to get in, because the promo is still live as we write this. Amazing.

Hinter den kryptischen Kürzeln XW-NAS5 und XW-NAS3 verstecken sich zwei neue iPod/iPhone-Soundsysteme aus dem Hause Pioneer. Palm to unveil Eos this week?
Palm's heavily rumored Eos smartphone could be made official as early as this week, according to a supposed contact near to the company. The unnamed tipster claims the Centro replacement's appearance will be tied to Fashion Week in New York City but doesn't provide much else to TechCrunch other than the implication that the Eos will release before the end of the year. Such a view contradicts rumors that the handset had been pushed to 2010.

We know how relieved you were when you found out that rumors of Pineview's delay were greatly exaggerated. But have you heard this one?
