LG Chocolate Touch and Samsung Omnia 2 slated for August 23rd, according to supposed Best Buy leak
If this screen capture to be believed, August 23rd is gearing up to be one helluva day for phone lovers. According to this snapshot from Best Buy's computers, that's when LG's desirable BL40 Chocolate Touch will be making its way into the consumer world, alongside a red Xenon and a bevy of Samsung phones including Omnia 2, Rogue, and Solstice. Angeblich Abkommen zwischen Apple und Google zur Mitarbeiterabwerbung
Google CEO Eric Schmidt ist nicht mehr Mitglied des Apple-Aufsichtsrat, aber die Verbindungen zwischen den beiden Firmen werden weiter untersucht. Nun berichtet TechCrunch über eine angeblich existierende Absprache zwischen den beiden Firmen, dass man nicht aktiv Mitarbeiter der jeweils anderen Firma abwerben wird. LG GD900 Crystal gets handled, sent to swim with the fishes
It's really a shame this isn't an out of box feature, but some ingenious modder has graced LG's GD900 Crystal phone -- you know, the one with the gesture-based transparent keypad -- with a custom water-resistant case that renders it perfect for swimming with the fishes. And so did they just that, dipping it into a fish tank. It'd make for one insanely hip charging dock, but we digress. Meanwhile in Russia, mobile@mail.ru has delivered some impressions on the device, with good words to say for the keypad's gestures but lamenting it's $899 suggested price tag, a figure higher than even the super sexy BL40 Chocolate. Google Voice doch auf dem iPhone - per Webbrowser
Bevor zwei Anwendungen nachträglich aus dem App Store getilgt und die App von Google gar nicht erst in den Store aufgenommen wurde, werden wohl nur die wenigsten von Google Voice gehört haben. Rein werbetechnisch hätte dem Telefondienst nichts besseres passieren können, denn nun wird über Google Voice geredet - und die Suchmaschinenfirma will sicherstellen, dass auch iPhone-Besitzer zu ihren Kunden zählen.

Look, ioSafe said when it was announced that the Solo external HDD was rugged enough to withstand both fire and submersion in water, so really, it was only a matter of time before at least one of those things happened, right? Dass bereits in wenigen Tagen der neue Pentium E6500 mit 2,93 GHz erscheinen soll, ist seit längerer Zeit bekannt. Bad NVIDIA chips continue to plague Apple and other PC manufacturers
The Inquirer reports that NVIDIA is taking a $120 million hit again this quarter on charges related to a faulty die and weak packaging material which was used in its graphics chips. NVIDIA had previously taken a write-down of almost $200 million to cover warranty and product replacement costs on bad GPUs it supplied to Apple and other PC manufacturers.
NVIDIA is the GPU maker on all but a handful of Macintosh systems.

First Live Broadcast to iPhone
Here's a late breaking story: Tonight, Apple will produce its first-ever live event streamed to the iPhone: a concert by the electronica band Underworld. Head to iphone.akamai.com or underworldlive.com to queue up. The show starts at midnight Eastern US time and the stream is free.

Apple and Google had employee non-poaching agreement. That's over now.
TechCrunch's sources at Google have informed them that Apple and Google had a no-poach employee agreement going on over the years that Google's Eric Schmidt was on the board of directors at Apple. "This was not a written agreement, and was considered non-official, but it was well-known and followed within the recruitment division of Google, we’re told."
Google and Apple have been investigated by the DOJ for sharing board members which could theoretically have the byproduct of this type of behavior.

Mobile TV fürs iPhone lahmt beim Start
Das gestrige Auftaktspiel zur Bundesligasaison 2009/10 war die erste Bewährungsprobe für Mobile TV auf dem iPhone. Mittels dem kostenlosen Programm Mobile TV Lite sollen Besitzer eines iPhone 3G oder 3GS noch bis zum 18. August das neue Angebot der Telekom ohne Entgelt testen können, anschließend werden monatliche, bzw. Gebühren für einen Tageszugang fällig.
Bei diesem "Testlauf" war die Technik der Telekom offensichtlich jedoch komplett überfordert. Möglicherweise wurde das Interesse der iPhone-Besitzer unterschätzt: Eine Verbindung geschweige denn vernünftiges Streaming während des Fußballspiels war laut unseren Informationen bundesweit kaum möglich. Schlechte Werbung also für ein an sich gar nicht so uninteressantes Angebot.

Apple and Google had employee non-poaching agreement. That's over now.
TechCrunch's sources at Google have informed them that Apple and Google had a no-poach employee agreement going on over the years that Google's Eric Schmidt was on the board of directors at Apple. "This was not a written agreement, and was considered non-official, but it was well-known and followed within the recruitment division of Google, we’re told."
Google and Apple have been investigated by the DOJ for sharing board members which could theoretically have the byproduct of this type of behavior.

HTC Fiesta: definitely Android, headed for AT&T
Months and months after the telltale signs appeared over at the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, we've now got further confirmation that HTC's as-yet-unpeeped "Fiesta" will indeed be an Android handset. TDK looks to deliver 2.5TB hard drives in early 2010
It's been a little while since TDK has made some news in the neverending race for next big hard drive breakthrough, but it looks like that could be changing fairly soon, with a recently revealed roadmap indicating that the company currently has some 640GB drive platters suitable for a 3.5-inch drive going through qualification tests by its OEMs. While nothing's obviously official just yet, TDK is reportedly looking to begin mass production of the platters in November of this year, which could pave the way for some four-platter, 2.5TB drives to debut as early as February of next year. Subscription services like Netflix Watch Instantly generates 20x the revenue of pay-per-downloads
Now this is one stat from an analyst that we wouldn't refute, but we do wonder how Versaly Entertainment aquired this information. How exactly does one calculate streaming revenue from a subscription service like Netflix anyways? To be fair we are only assuming that Netflix is involved here as it wasn't specifically mentioned, but we really can't think of any other subscription based video streaming service. Our best guess is that the revenue in question is based on what the studios are receiving and not for the service itself. Regardless, it isn't hard to figure out why no one is paying $4-$5 for the 24 hour rights to watch a movie on any of the pay-per-download services out there. Especially when you can rent a movie from just about anywhere via Redbox for $1.

First Live Broadcast to iPhone
Here's a late breaking story: Tonight Apple will produce its first-ever live event streamed to the iPhone: a concert by the electronica band Underworld. Head to iphone.akamai.com or underworldlive.com to queue up. The show starts at 12 pm Eastern US time and the stream is free.
