HP mulling lower cost Mini-Note laptop

It was inevitable, was it not? With the success of HP's 2133 Mini-Note, it was pretty obvious that the outfit would be working up a second edition, and according to Jerel Chong, HP Australia's Market Development Manager for Notebook PCs, it's already "looking at a similar device but at a lower cost." Reportedly, the lower cost low-cost laptop will be ready for budget-conscience consumers sometime before 2009, though we have no idea what corners will be cut in order to hack down the price. Gerade erst wurde Apple mit dem International Design Excellence Award ausgezeichnet und gleich wieder machen Steve Jobs' Gestaltungsideen von sich reden. Paris Expo Remixed, untranslated
Apple Expo Paris, Remixed (Translated to Anglais) which is fighting for international relevancy has opted to go this year with a French language-only programme. Apple, for the first time in 25 years, decided to skip this year's Paris event, leaving many to question whether the "international" show would remain relevant. A Macbook with a multitouch trackpad
For now, the only devices which includes a multitouch trackpad are the MacBook Air and the last Macbook Pro. For exemple, this allows them to zoom on pictures. Stef from Montpellier has decided to put one on his macbook.
In order to do so, he used all the electronic parts of a MacBook pro trackpad and bring it to his macbook. He send us a video proving that the system works like a charm (we won't put it online because of size matter).

Toshiba working on a netbook / UMPC that's actually interesting

We're almost totally over the whole netbook craze, but Toshiba's latest prototype shows there's still interesting things possible, even if it isn't a traditional laptop. Google boss says iPhone's good - for Google
Google CEO and Apple board member Eric Schmidt is pretty pleased with the iPhone 3G, telling Fortune it "shows the power of a device that is a step forward".
Schmidt was speaking yesterday at the Brainstorm Tech event. He noted, "The iPhone has a fully functional browser. We can show desktop ads, not mobile ads. That’s a huge change from our perspective."
Naturally conversation soon turned to Android, Google's own mobile phone software. Handset makers will deliver the first Android phones by the end of the year, the report claims. And the success of the iPhone is good news for Google and the Android platform.

Das CAD-Program (Computer Aided Design) TurboCAD Mac Deluxe ist in Version 4.0 erschienen.
Neu in dem 3D/2D-Design-Programm ist unter anderem eine Funktion zur Erstellung mehrseitiger PDF-Dokumente. So können Designs nun als komplexe PDF-Dokument in verschiedenen Größen gespeichert werden, um zum Beispiel per E-Mail verschickt zu werden. Gizmodo beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, warum man trotz App Store und iPhone SDK noch immer den "Schwarzmarkt für iPhone-Programme" benötigt. Nach Ansicht des Technik-Portals sind viele der wirklich guten und sinnvollen iPhone-Applikationen einfach noch nicht in Apples offiziellem Software-Shop erhältlich. Dort gäbe es zwar mindestens fünf verschiedene Applikationen, um aus dem iPhone eine Taschenlampe zu machen, eine Applikation um das iPhone in einen 3G Wi-Fi-Hotspot zu verwandeln, gäbe es jedoch nicht. "Warum?" fragt Gizmodo. "Weil das SDK mehr Restriktionen als Guantanamo hat". Nvidia PhysX-Treiber für alle GPUs am 5. August?

Vodafone kauft eigene Aktien zurück
Wie cellular-news.com berichtet, hat Vodafone eigene Unternehmensanteile im Wert von einer Billion Pfund (rund 1,27 Milliarden Euro) zurückgekauft. Vodafone-Tarif für gecrackte iPhones
Vodafone bietet mit der InternetFlat Plus eine Tarifoption speziell für die Nutzung mit dem iPhone an. Für 9,95 Euro Aufpreis auf den bestehenden Mobilfunkvertrag gibt es monatlich 500 MB UMTS-Daten, danach wird auf GPRS-Geschwindigkeit gedrosselt.

Probleme mit MobileMe setzen sich fort

Robot dragonfly gets outfitted with camera, plans to record uprising from every possible angle
