Weight Fat Checker makes no bones about what it's here to do
Sure, this device is borrowing not a little from the look, feel and color scheme of the Wii Fit, but the Weight Fat Checker is a little more direct in its naming schemes. A handheld body fat meter unearthed somewhere in Japan, we don't know anything about its pricing or availability, but we assume we'll never probably seen one in the flesh. Cisco intros 802.11n bridge, pair of routers
Cisco on Thursday announced the release of a trio of new 802.11n Wi-Fi networking products, with the WET610N Ethernet Bridge, and WRT400N and WRT320N routers. All operate on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. The WET610N provides the faster wireless link to devices that only have an Ethernet port, such as the Xbox 360 or some network media hubs. Sony deflects concerns over iPhone challenge
The iPhone is not a significant threat to the success of the PlayStation Portable, claims Sony's Ray Maguire. A-Data outs fast, 512GB SSD
At the ongoing CeBIT show in Germany, Taiwan's A-Data showed off a 2.5-inch, 512GB solid state drive (SSD), the XPG. A-Data says the 512GB XPG is capable of reading data at 230MBps while write speeds are as high as 160MBps, though these have to be verified in real-world testing. The drive features a standard SATA II interface.

ASRock launches MultiBook G12 at CeBIT, we go eyes-on
ASRock had a surprisingly large presence at CeBIT this year, so it follows logic that it would bring along some new kit to show off. The MultiBook G12 is its 12-inch offering to the bursting-at-the-seams netbook arena, and while it didn't look all that different from the units it's going up against, we suppose a little more competition can't hurt matters. Details on specs were rather scant, with ASRock only telling us that it will ship with a dual-core Intel CPU, up to 2GB of DDR2 RAM, integrated graphics, a 12.1-inch panel (1,280 x 800), room for a single 2.5-inch SATA drive, gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, audio in / out, a built-in optical drive, four USB 2.0 ports, a 56k modem, VGA output and a fancy-ish design on the lid. Transparent "ViVid Screen" can be affixed to windows, cut into shapes
Screens that can be switched from a transparent to an opaque state aren't exactly anything new, but LinkEarth Corp looks to be a taking a somewhat novel approach with its new so-called ViVid Screen, which it says is particularly well suited for digital signage. As with similar screens, this one employs some electrodes that become transparent when a current is applied, but it also makes use of a new "sponge-like" polymer acrylic structure that prevents the liquid crystals from leaking out even if the screen is bent or cut. Pandigital's 10.4-inch PanTouch Clear WiFi digiframe is industry's thinnest
Pandigital just got official with its PanTouch Clear line at CES this year, but already the company's stepping things up with the industry's slimmest digiframe. Nokia confirms North American 5800 3G reception issues have been fixed
It's official: Nokia has a fix. It seems that a "configuration change" -- which we're assuming means a software-based setting of some sort -- was responsible for the 3G disaster on the first batch of North America-spec 5800 XpressMusics to hit the market, and the company has been able to fast-track a new firmware (not a common occurrence for those guys, but clearly, time was of the essence here). Keepin' it real fake, part CLXXXVII: the Toshiba TG01 doesn't deserve this kind of love
Toshiba definitely made some waves at MWC with the Snapdragon-powered TG01, but you'll have to wait a while to get the real thing -- or you can front like you're VIP with the Venus JXD318 here, which cops all the style with none of the substance. You'll have to keep your friends at a distance (and possibly a little drunk) to keep the illusion alive, however: Venus didn't see fit to clone Tosh's stripes UI, instead going with the sadly-ubiquitous "wannabe iPhone" look, and the whole thing is controlled by those five tiny side buttons, since it's not a touchscreen. That's a pretty weak effort, overall -- come on, KIRFers, you can do better.

RED shows off DSMC cam configurations in the flesh, new lenses
RED fans have been getting quite an eyeful this week in the company's forums, as Jim Jannard and crew have been posting all kinds of sneak peeks at the company's latest gear -- including a few configurations of the modular DSMC EPIC and Scarlet systems in action. The company is also working on super-high-end prime lenses for their cameras that supposedly outperform every other test lens the company has in its possession -- Jannard says "it isn't close." OCZ's Z Drive puts 1TB of blazing SSD capacity in your PCIe slot: eyes-on
Here's a little something OCZ Technology cooked up just for CeBIT: a PCIe enclosure that'll contain 1TB worth of SSD storage with maximum read rates of up to 600MB/sec and maximum write speeds of up to 500MB/sec. Oh, and the sustained write speeds are right around 400MB/sec. Essentially, this device will contain four 256GB MLC-based OCZ SSDs along with 256MB of ECC DDR2 RAM; when slapped in one's desktop, they can choose to set it up as the boot disk or a slave. Given Nokia Siemens' commitment to getting the technology rolled out with carrier partners on the double and the fact that Nokia's tie-up with Qualcomm for S60-optimized HSPA and LTE chipsets will bear fruit in 2010 -- not to mention the fact that multiple carriers will be deploying LTE over the next two years -- it only stands to reason that Espoo would have LTE devices in the pipe sooner rather than later. Well, well, what have we here? Yet another entrant into the decidedly oversaturated netbook market, that's what. While waltzing through OCZ Technology's CeBIT booth today, we happened upon the company's very first netbook: Neutrino. After chuckling for a few at the empty Beck's bottle beside it (hey, we're in Germany!), we scoped out the specs (and chatted with an on-hand rep) and found that it will be shipping Stateside within nine or so weeks in two variations. ASUS phasing out 7-inch Eee PC, original Eee motto, keeping 9-incher

Alltel is set to play catch up with both Bell and Sprint with news today of its Palm's Treo Pro launch. FireWire 400 verschwindet aus der Apple-Hardware
Bei den Unibody-MacBooks wurde der FireWire-Port bereits komplett abgeschafft, alle am Dienstag aufgefrischen Rechner sind ab sofort mit einem FireWire 800-Port ausgestattet.

A-DATA launches laptop-ready 2.5-inch 512GB XPG SSD at CeBIT
We heard way back in January that ASUS' S121 would be the world's first laptop with a 512GB SSD, and now we've reason to believe that very drive could be coming from the labs at A-DATA. Here at CeBIT, the company has launched what it's claiming is the industry's highest capacity SSD (in the 2.5-inch form factor) with its 512GB XPG SSD. The drive promises to provide 230MB/s read and 160MB/s write rates while shuffling data around on the SATA II interface. As expected, it comes housed in a durable aluminum casing to shake off those occasional bumps and bruises, but there's sadly no word on price

Despite the fact that MSI's Atom-powered WindBOX is meant to ride your monitor while providing all the computing power it can handle, the employees at the company's CeBIT booth felt it more proper in public to simply leave it laying out front. Though we were a touch dismayed, this choice did give us a better opportunity to shoot it from all angles, and we must say, this sucker is pretty thin. We're still hearing that MSI is aiming this more at enterprise customers rather than mainstream consumers, but there's nothing you can't buy if you know the right channels. Gestern gab es bereits Bildergalerien, auf denen neuer und alter Mac mini verglichen werden konnten. Bekanntlich lassen sich die optischen Unterschiede nur an der Rückseite festmachen, da Apple Änderungen an den Anschlüssen vornahm. We just can't visit a trade show and not scope out at least one KIRF. It's just not possible. Here in Hannover, we happened upon a rather unusual one in a booth selling all sorts of DVDs to resellers willing to buy absolute rubbish and attempt to flip it. Apparently, Dancing Like The Stars is the long-tenured, very fake version of the show we Americans know best as Dancing With The Stars. A subtle difference, sure, but does this man above look anything like The Woz? No, no he does not. Not even at 800 percent magnification.

Jens Lehmann griff während der WM 2006 noch auf den klassischen Spickzettel zurück, Ben Foster vom englischen Meister Manchester United studierte die Technik seines Gegners vor dem Elfmeterschießen im Ligapokal-Finale auf einem iPod. Danach hielt er den entscheidenden Elfmeter und verhalf ManU damit zum Titel.

Wie schon häufiger ist es Primate Labs, die mit den ersten Benchmarkergebnissen zu den am Dienstag vorgestellten neuen Modellen von iMac und Mac mini aufwarten können. BenQ GP1 (P1) LED pocket projector hands-on
Remember that GP1 pico projector that was quietly announced alongside a slew of others at CES this year? Apparently it's sporting the P1 moniker in Europe, which is infinitely confusing given that BenQ used to have a PJ that looked mighty similar to this one, and yeah, it too was called the P1. At any rate, the GP1 you see here is BenQ's first ever LED beamer, and with it will come an 858 x 600 native resolution, 100 ANSI lumens, 2,000:1 contrast ratio, an integrated USB reader, TI's DLP technology and a lamp life of 20,000 hours. Magna, Mitsubishi show off electric vehicle concepts in Geneva
We're not sure if it has anything to do with its falling out with Telsa or not, but auto-parts maker Magna International looks to have really gone all out for this year's Geneva Motor Show, where it is showing off its new Mila EV concept vehicle. Apparently, in addition to proving that it can build more than just parts, Magna is hoping that the vehicle will appeal to manufactures who want a turn-key EV platform that they can quickly get into production. Magna even seems to be going so far as to supply the batteries for the vehicle, which it says could have a charging time of just 2.5 hours and a range of 150 kilometers. Also offering up

BlackBerry App World minimum paid price: $2.99
RIM's newly-named BlackBerry App World might be all set to compete with the other mobile app stores on the scene, but it's not going head-to-head on price: according to the developer docs, the first price tier above free is $2.99. That doesn't seem like much, but it's a little puzzling in light of how successful various less-expensive iPhone apps have been. Of course, RIM might just want its apps to seem more valuable to customers -- and maybe keep fart apps far from its business-oriented platform -- but we'll see how developers react when things go live. Western Digital 2TB Caviar Green, 8TB ShareSpace and friends eyes-on
Can't say we really expected to see anything from Western Digital here at CeBIT, but sure enough, it brought along its 2TB Caviar Green hard drive, WD TV HD media player and the new 8TB ShareSpace NAS. Along with oodles of other external, internal and somewhere-in-between drives, too. MSI Wind NetTop CD130 eyes-on
MSI's Wind NetTop CD130 was quietly introduced at the tail end of CES this year, and if you're suspecting that it's simply a cousin of the NetTop D130, you'd be right. We caught two of the boxes on hand at CeBIT, both of which were sporting a dual-core Atom processor and one of which was entirely more colorful than the other. Supposedly, these things only draw around 40 watts of power, but don't expect to do anything other than process Word documents, surf the web and send email with any amount of haste. O2's Joggler, formerly OpenFrame, launches in UK this April
Our friend Mr. Blurrycam was right on the money: OpenPeak's OpenFrame 7-inch MID touchscreen is on its way to the UK care of O2, albeit with a rather odd name change. The Joggler, as it's now called, connects via WiFi or Ethernet and has no SIM card for mobile use. Issue: iPhoto: Invalid media found in movie when exporting to slide show
Description:
When exporting slide shows from iPhoto to other applications using the Share menu, some people are getting an error that claims the exported movie contains invalid data.

"I have been trying all day to send a photo album to ITunes to put on my IPod. Every time I try, I eventually get the message that Invalid Media Data was found in the movie. What does this mean and how do I fix this?"
This error happens when people try to share files with iDVD for burning, as well as when exporting to iTunes, and appears to be a problem with how iPhoto handles large files. This could be either from the resulting movie being large due to high-quality exports used, or from the quantity of included pictures being large. When users have split up their slide shows, they have been able to bypass this error.
Unfortunately, this appears to be either a bug in how the iLife applications handle slide shows, or perhaps a bug in QuickTime, which is used to encode the slide show. Regardless, there are a coup

Researchers develop flying WiFi robots for disaster relief
Researchers at Germany's Ilmenau University of Technology are developing flying quadcopter robots that can be used to form a self-assembling ad-hoc wireless network in the event of disaster. Built with off-the-shelf parts (including VIA's Pico-ITX hardware and a GPS unit) the robots are designed to provide both mobile phone and WiFi access -- and they can do it far more quickly than a technician on the ground might be able to. Issue: iPhoto crashing when showing slide shows
Description: Some iPhoto users are having troubles with the program crashing when attempting to view slide shows as described in this Apple knowledge base article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638).

"iPhoto 09 works fine until I click the slide show button. As soon as I do this, crash and burn baby. It brings up the first picture from the event I've chosen and shows the title but then crashes before anything else happens. This problem seems to be related to display resolution problems and specific monitor setups. In the past, people have had troubles with the built-in photos screensaver when running dual monitors after updating the iLife media browser. Video: Hama's iPod touch racing wheel exemplifies overkill
While most of Hama's CeBIT booth consisted of random USB drives, cases and other sorts of low-rate accessories, this particular low-rate accessory grabbed our hearts and wouldn't let go. The absurdly titled Game Wheel Speed-X is evidently geared to work with Apple's latest iPod touch, though we reckon an iPhone 3G should slide right in without too much effort. Reception issues with North American Nokia 5800s to be fixed with firmware?

Broadcasters sue FCC over white space decision
