Proposed bill would force ISP, WiFi logs for security, criminal investigations
This proposed bill has been floating around the ether for a long time -- and it's just made a big time comeback. Essentially, the Republican-backed bill would be a "sweeping" federal measure which would require all ISPs and many WiFi access point providers to keep records of their users for two years, in order to aid police investigations. There are two separate bills -- one in the Senate and one in the House -- both named the "Internet Stopping Adults Facilitating the Exploitation of Today's Youth Act," or Internet Safety Act. Catchy, right? The bill would cover, as already stated, not just the major ISPs, but WiFi providers, including both public and password protected access points. August House of Chanel designs Segway, for real
The Vivienne Tam-designed Mini 1000 was a cute foray of high fashion into the uber-geeky tech world, but not necessarily completely out of left field. Well, this one is. Ryanair brings in-flight calling to 20 aircraft, but you'll never use it
Oh sure, the idea of having in-flight calling capabilities is pretty awesome, but actually biting the bullet and paying international roaming fees in order to indulge is likely to be a stretch. Ryanair, one of Europe's low-cost airlines, has finally equipped 20 of its planes (all traveling to / from Dublin) with in-flight mobile service after promising it around 1.5 years ago. NIVIDA Ion platform to support VIA Nano processors this year

ARM's stash of netbook oddities and a Windows Mobile 6.5 MID
We're not sure what sort of shenanigans ARM gets up to, but it managed to amass itself quite the interesting collection of netbooks for its MWC booth. Like a skeleton in the closet or a beating heart in the floorboards, many home theater enthusiasts are cursed by a barrage of remote controls, each with different shapes, sizes, and battery demands. Cheap multi-device programmable remotes help, but Logitech's Harmony line has for years been something of a savior, elegantly hiding all your devices behind simple activities like "Watch TV" or "Play a CD." The Harmony 1100 is the latest to join the lineup, and is in many ways the most elegant to look at and to hold. Cable companies work to bring new online content to pay-TV subscribers
In an effort to maintain relevancy during a time when online TV viewing is on the rise, a number of big name cable companies are looking to throw in online companion packages to sweeten the pay-TV equation. Pre emerges on Palm's UK website... in a CDMA skin
Last we checked, a GSM handset couldn't exactly hop on those speedy EV-DO waves without some sort of dual personality. And so far as we know, Palm's forthcoming GSM Pre is, well, GSM only. ASUS experimenting with Android-based netbook
We'd already heard that ASUS was at least considering using Android on its Eee PC netbook, and seen it wrangled onto one unofficially (see above), but ASUS's Samson Hu has now offered a few more details that indicate just how serious the company is about the XP/Linux alternative. Apparently, ASUS has already allocated a team of engineers to work on the Android-based netbook, which Hu says could be ready by the end of the year, although the company isn't committing to actually releasing a product until it sees how things pan out. AMD Dresden bekommt neuen alten Chef
Hans Deppe, seit 2001 Geschäftsführer von AMD Dresden, ist zum 19. Februar von seinem Amt zurückgetreten. Das teilte der Halbleiterhersteller heute mit. Nanotech research could fit 10.5TB of data onto disk the size of a quarter
Two researchers, Ting Xu and Thomas Russell, are in the midst of developing some potentially sweet nanotech that could allow storage of around 10.5TB of data on a space the size of a quarter. They're currently working on the technique, which starts with a sliced crystal (sapphire or silicon) sliced at a jagged angle, which is then heated to 2700 degrees Farenheit which causes the crystal to reorganize itself into a sawtooth pattern at three nanometer angles. The crystal is then sprayed with a custom polymer, dryed, and treated again with a different solvent, after which the polymer then settles into a hexagonal pattern on the surface of the crystal. Wie golem berichtet, streiten Dell und Intel derzeit darum, den Eintrag “Netbook” als Markennamen des Unternehmens Psion löschen zu lassen. Psion hatte 1999 sein Psion netBook vorgestellt und den Begriff beim US-amerikanischen Patent- und Markenamt eintragen lassen, so golem. Das Unternehmen verkauft zwar keine Netbooks mehr, geht jedoch seit einiger Zeit gegen andere Firmen vor, die den Begriff ebenfalls verwenden. Psion selbst sagt, man würde noch Zubehör in Verbindung mit dem Markennamen verkaufen.

Apple and Samsung have a long history of locking up large-scale flash memory deals, and it looks like these two lovebirds are at it again -- word is that Cupertino's bought up all of Sammy's output until April of this year. Update für Multi-Instant-Messenger Adium behebt Fehler
Die Adium-Entwickler haben die Version 1.3.3 ihres Multi-Instant-Messengers veröffentlicht. Adium verwendet nun eine aktualisierte Version der für die Netzwerk- und Protokollverwaltung zuständigen libpurple-Bibliothek. Der Umstieg auf das pidgin-Facebook-Plug-in soll verschiedene Probleme mit der Facebook-Chat-Funktion beheben. Außerdem wurden diverse kleinere Fehler behoben, die Stabilität verbessert und Darstellungsfehler beseitigt.

Intel weist Kritik an langsamen Solid State Drives zurück
Intel hat Kritik zurückgewiesen, wonach seine Solid State Drives bei längerer Benutzung langsamer werden. Intel habe die von PC Perspectives ermittelten Labor-Ergebnisse nicht nachvollziehen können. Das Unternehmen geht davon aus, dass die von PC Perspectives verwendeten Belastungstests nicht einer tatsächlichen Benutzung einer SSD entsprechen.

Präsentationen in Apples Keynote-Format online vielen Personen zur Verfügung zu stellen, war bisher nicht ganz einfach, denn das Dateiformat war etwas unhandlich. Das Online-Portal slideshare.net konnte aber mit Keynote-Dateien umgehen, wenn sie zuvor als zip komprimiert wurden. AMD zeigt Sechs-Kern-Prozessor in Aktion

MSI bringt All-in-One-PC mit 19-Zoll-Display

Also, within a given area that is unedited and consistent, a single macroblock type will be used

Cinema Display 20 Zoll aus Apple Store verschwunden
Abschied des kleinen Cinema Displays: Ohne einen Nachfolger anzukündigen, ist das 20-Zoll-Modell aus dem Apple Online Store verschwunden. Wie die große Variante mit 30 Zoll ist das Display von Apple seit Jahren nicht überarbeitet worden und technisch veraltet. OCZ expands Alchemy line with Illuminati backlit keyboard
OCZ Technology's Elixir keyboard was fine and dandy, but let's face it -- it's pretty hard to beat the awesomeness of a keyboard with lights. Today, the company is expanding its Alchemy peripheral line with the Illuminati multimedia keyboard, a board with rubber coated keys, fourteen quick launch buttons and the choice of two backlit colors (red or blue, naturally). Erstes Foto des nächsten Mac mini aufgetaucht?
Im MacRumors-Forum ist ein Foto aufgetaucht, welches angeblich den nächsten Mac mini zeigt. Die Rückansicht des Gerätes entspricht den vor der Macworld Expo kursierenden Gerüchten und zeigt fünf USB-Anschlüsse, Mini-DVI und Mini-DisplayPort, sowie FireWire 800 statt 400. Angeblich soll das System 2 GB RAM und einem mit 2 GHz getakteten Core 2 Duo verwenden.

How would you change 3M's MPro110 pocket projector?
The pico projector market has practically exploded over the past six months or so, but all the while it was 3M's MPro110 leading the charge. Given that you've now had a few months to toy with it, we're wondering if this thing really has lived up to the hype. Is having a projector in your pocket as awesome as advertised? Is the image quality sufficient for impromptu wall splashings? Would you recommend holding off for round two? 20-inch Cinema Display EOL'd
Apple today EOL'd the 20 inch cinema display. Whether that means a new 20-inch ultra-shiny Mini DisplayPort LED w/camera version is on the way or not is anyone's guess. The new 24-inch has had its fans (quality+camera+MacBook power adapter) and critics (price+shine), but it certainly seem like it is the direction Apple is headed. ScreenFlow 1.5 adds titling and text capabilities
Telestream has released ScreenFlow 1.5, an update to its screencasting application. The company has added titling and text capabilities, along with customizable mouse pointers and audio effects. Philips debuts GoGear Ariaz, Opus PMPs
Philips has been keeping things relatively simple with its GoGear line as of late, but it looks to be getting back to full-on PMPs with its latest pair: the GoGear Ariaz and GoGear Opus. Wisconsin Governor wants to tax iTunes downloads

Vista, Server 2008 SP2 starts making the rounds as a Release Candidate
