Flash for iPhone is coming, along with a faster processor hopefully
Bloomberg reported this weekend that Adobe engineers are working diligently on getting Flash down to an acceptable level of power usage and performance to work on the iPhone/iPod touch architecture. The bad news? Don't expect this technology to become available in the first half of 2009. According to Adobe's press release on the matter:
The joint technology optimization is targeted for the ARMv6 and ARMv7architectures used in the ARM11™ family and the Cortex™-A series of processors and is expected to be available in the second half of 2009.

Crackulous breaks app store encyption, our hearts
Well, we guess it had to happen. There is now an app that breaks the encyption on App Store apps and allows people to (pirate) share them with others.
A project started by a coder named ‘SaladFork’, Crackulous was officially only available to a limited number of individuals, but it quickly gained notoriety as it makes the process of cracking software ridiculously easy. The successor to the more fiddly xCrack script, Crackulous is now being developed by ‘Angel’ and has a full GUI. All people have to do is buy an app from Apple and click a button, it’s that easy.

Is the iTunes store having its own credit crunch?
Credit crunch hits Apple? Not likely with that $28 billion in the bank. But there seems to have been some problems affecting people's iTunes store credit.
According to Venture Beat and a few hundred Twitterers, there seems to have been a minor glitch when purchasing videos or music. The error reads:
Due to a problem with the iTunes Store, your store credit balance is temporarily unavailable for use in purchasing music; you may continue purchasing using a different method of payment.
As of this writing the problem appears to be solved.

MacOS hits 10% of browsing marketshare according to NetApplications
OK, it's 9.93% but we're rounding up to 10% which is a significant milestone. The Mac OS rose from 9.63% in December, a gain of over 3% in Net Applications most recent survey of January Internet usage. If you look at the past year, there is no question the Mac is steadily gaining ground vs. Windows.
iPhone and the iPod touch also did very well posting significant gains. Specifically the iPod touch gained 37% since December on very strong holiday sales.

UAE and Saudi Arabia are joining the iPhone bandwagon
Shuffle Magazine reports:
In a full page ad in this morning’s Gulf News, Etisalat announces that they will be brining the iPhone to the UAE at a later day. The ad reads:
The UAE’s Emirates Telecommunications Corporation - Etisalat today announced that they have signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone 3G to the United Arab Emirates and to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through Mobily later this month. More information will be released at a later date.

Apple is a tough negotiator in the music industry
According to the New York Times, Apple, led of course by Steve Jobs, is now pushing its weight around in negotiations with the record labels. They admittedly are a bit afraid of Apple
In interviews, several high-level music executives, who spoke on the condition that they not be named to avoid angering Apple, said they operated in fear of Apple’s removing a label’s products from the iTunes store over a disagreement, even though that has never happened. The labels do not have much leverage in negotiating with Apple.
Of course even in vacation mode, Steve Jobs is still running the show.

Videoconferencing on the iPhone
Video conferencing on the iPhone rumors have been around almost as long as the iPhone itself. Well, they are still in rumor mode but have a very slightly more realistic chance at coming to fruition if Apple's latest patent unearthing gets the go-ahead. It's just been a few months since Silicon Mountain rolled out its first Allio LCD TV-PCs, but it looks like the company has already found some room for expansion courtesy of everyone's favorite cost-reducing processor. Apple updates Keynote, Pages, Numbers
Apple has released updates for the iWork suite of programs including Keynote, Pages and Numbers. The Keynote 4.0.4 download addresses compatibility issues with Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 and PowerPoint 2008, while fixing other general compatibility issues. The Pages 3.0.3 and Numbers 1.0.3 updates should also remedy general compatibility problems.

More specs leak of Motorola phones, iPhone adapter
A few photos and specifics on a couple of Motorola handsets unveiled last week have surfaced recently, specifically the ZN300 candybar cell phone. Apart from a leaked official image, the ZN300 is also believed to ship with a 3-megapixel camera and an LCD of unspecified size that has a 240x320-pixel resolution. News: iPhone Software 2.2.1 causing iTunes crashes
A large number of iPhone users are reporting on Apple’s discussion boards that iTunes crashes upon trying to sync after installation of Software 2.2.1. Interestingly, the crashes do not appear isolated to the iPhone, as some users have reported that iTunes will crash when trying to sync an iPod as well. LaCie intros 8X Blu-ray burner for Macs, PCs
LaCie at midday has launched a new version of its d2 Blu-ray Drive. The updated version now records write-once versions of the HD disc format at 8X and can theoretically burn a two hour movie in 15 minutes. Report claims 14.6 million netbooks shipped in 2008, further growth expected
While any number of total netbooks shipped or sold is bound to be a little suspect, given that many folks can't even agree on what a netbook is, this latest report from research firm DisplayBank at least gives us a decent impression, and confirms what many likely thought. According to the report, the total netbook shipments for 2008 reached an impressive 14.6 million, with Acer and ASUS leading the way with a 37.3% and 33.2% market share, respectively, and HP a distant third with 7.5%. RFID network used in the fight against Alzheimer's

Rambus introduces 4.3Gbps mobile memory
It's not all just lawsuits and overinflated posturing for RAMBUS -- the prickly memory firm will later today demo what its calling the Mobile Memory Initiative, a 4.3Gbps phone-oriented variant of the XDR RAM used in the PS3 that draws just 100mV of power. We've already seen some Samsung rumors start to crop up in advance of Mobile World Congress, and it looks like the flood gates have now fully opened up, with a slew of new leaks and rumors of varying veracity now making their way across the internet. BenQ is one of those manufacturers that produces a lot of different electronics for a lot of different markets, but has apparently decided that 2009 is a good time to get a bit more focused. The camel-case company has no plans to announce or release any new handsets this year, instead focusing on a new line of all-in-one PCs dubbed nScreen, set to debut sometime after February. Apple Stores: Gleich gut besucht, aber weniger Verkäufe
Die Apples Stores entwickelten sich überall zum Besuchermagneten und zogen viele Kunden an. Charlie Wolf von Needham vergleicht in einer Studie die Besucherzahlen von Dezember 2007 mit denen vom vergangenen Dezember. Insolvenzverfahren gegen Norsk IT und E-Bug eröffnet
Am Freitag hat das Amtsgericht Hildesheim das Insolvenzverfahren gegen die BUG Computer Components AG, den Betreiber des Online-Shops E-Bug, eröffnet (Aktenzeichen 51 IN 99/08). Davon ist auch die Schwestergesellschaft Norsk IT betroffen. Beide hatten Anfang November 2008 Insolvenzantrag gestellt. Offenbar hat sich aber inzwischen weder ein Investor gefunden, noch konnte sich das Unternehmen bisher aus eigener Kraft sanieren.

Apple is a tough negotiator in the music industry
According to the New York Times, Apple, led of course by Steve Jobs, is now pushing its weight around in negotiations with the record labels. They admittedly are a bit afraid of Apple
In interviews, several high-level music executives, who spoke on the condition that they not be named to avoid angering Apple, said they operated in fear of Apple’s removing a label’s products from the iTunes store over a disagreement, even though that has never happened. 9,9 Prozent: Immer mehr Mac-Anwender im Internet unterwegs

South Koreans could see 1Gbps web connections by 2012
The world at large still has aways to go before it catches up with Sweden's Sigbritt Löthberg, but South Korea's hoping to take a baby step in that direction by 2012. Seit kurzem ist es möglich, im iTunes Store auch einzelne Titel vom digitalen Rechteschutz zu befreien und eine höhere Bitrate zu erhalten. Allerdings wunderte sich manch ein Benutzer über die kurz danach eintreffende Abrechnung. Neue iPhone-Tarife bei T-Mobile
T-Mobile hat die Tarifstruktur für das iPhone komplett überarbeitet. Neu im Angebot sind die Pakete Combi Flat und Max Flat mit höheren Minutenguthaben bzw. Telefonie-Flatrates. Neu im Vergleich zu den bisherigen iPhone-Tarifen ist die Abschaffung der Pauschalminuten bei den kleineren Paketen - das Telefonieguthaben gilt teils nur für das T-Mobile-Handynetz oder das deutsche Festnetz.
Bei den beiden Max Flat-Tarifen liegt der Schwerpunkt auf Telefonie, hier muss der Onlinezugriff über Web'n'Walk separat zugebucht werden, das selbe gilt für die Max und Combi Flat-Angebote für Schüler und Studenten.

Der Mac holt sich 9.93% Webmarktanteil
Mac OS X und Safari ergattern sich weiterhin jeden Monat einen höheren Marktanteil im Internet. Google stuft gesamtes Internet als Malware ein
Google hat am Samstag versehentlich alle Websites im Internet als schädlich eingestuft. Beim Klick auf ein Suchergebnis erschien zwischen 15.30 Uhr und 16.15 Uhr deutscher Zeit weltweit nicht die gewünschte Website, sondern ein Warnhinweis. Digital distribution not expected to rule packaged media anytime soon
Whoa, vaquero -- calm your jets. This is just a projection, which may or may not prove to be indicative of reality. Neue Mac-Messe in Deutschland
In Deutschland wird, zwei Jahre nach Absetzung der MacExpo Köln, wieder eine Mac-Messe aufgezogen. Wiederum in Köln soll im Oktober die mac2.009 stattfinden - organisiert vom ehemaligen MacExpo-Mitveranstalter Daniel Pein. Vom 29.10. bis 31.10.2009 findet in Köln zum ersten Mal das neue Event für High-Tech und Lifestyle rund um die ‘Mac-Technologie’ statt. Nach 10 Jahren Mac mit viel Enthusiasmus und Herzblut sage ich vorerst mal tschüss!
Ich habe gerade mein aktuelles MacBook Pro Unibody wegen dem Bildschirm verkauft (und gegen ein Thinkpad T500 getauscht) und lebe somit in einem Mac-freien Haushalt. MacOS hits 10% of browsing marketshare according to NetApplications
OK, its 9.93% but we're rounding up to 10% which is a significant milestone. The Mac OS rose from 9.63% in December, a gain of over 3% in Net Applications most recent survey of January Internet usage. If you look at the past year, there is no question the Mac is steadily gaining ground vs. Windows.
iPhone and the iPod touch also did very well posting significant gains. Specifically the iPod touch gained 37% since December on very strong holiday sales.

Eurocom lays claim to Core i7-equipped Clevo D900F
Remember all those Clevo laptops revealed last month? While we're expecting more information at CeBIT 2009, those crazy Canadians at Eurocom have gone ahead and spilled the beans on the 17-inch D900F. As conjectured, the 11.9-pound behemoth's packing an equally-mighty Intel Core i7 processor in 2.66, 2.93 and 3.2GHz varieties. Adobe working with Apple to bring Flash to the iPhone
Adobe's CEO, Shantanu Narayen, has suggested that his company is now working with Apple to develop a version of Flash that runs on the iPhone, according to an interview with Bloomberg. Narayen in March of 2008 explained the need to work closely with Apple for the project, as the software would necessitate a close relationship with Safari in addition to the iPhone SDK. Netflix considering premium price tiers for additional streaming content?
Look, some people are perfectly content to swap a DVD with Netflix once a millenia and watch Matthew Broderick and Michelle Pfeiffer in Ladyhawke on their Xbox 360 -- other people demand something a bit more "hip" on their Instant Watch queue. Netflix is apparently investigating the possibility of an additional $10 monthly fee to watch HBO shows and movies on the streaming service, or at least has a poll to that effect. For people that keep cable around just for things like HBO and Showtime, it's an attractive proposition, and perhaps a bit of an inevitability, but at $10 a month we'd expect Netflix to toss
