Sprint loses early termination lawsuit, ordered to pay $73M -- but it's not over yet

Martin Jetpack officially unveiled, lifts off on video

One of mankind's most adored gadgets (yes, the jetpack) is moving one step closer to mainstream today with the unveiling of the Martin Jetpack. Revealed in front of a crowd in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, this human transporter is technically defined by the FAA as an "experimental ultralight airplane, equipped with a gas-powered, V-4 piston engine and two ducted fans that provide the lift." Currently, the $100,000 machine can only hover for around 30 minutes and rise to 8,000 feet, and those who sign up to purchase one will first have to complete 15 hours of flight training as well as a "safety screening." VIA Nano and Intel's Atom benchmarked head-to-head

Netbooks based on VIA's Nano mobile processor aren't nearly as common as those based on Intel's Atom, but based on the benchmarking that's been going on recently, that's a shame, since the Nano appears to be much faster than the Atom 230. Orange, O2 deny UK iPhone claim
Orange and O2 are have moved into damage control, denying claims that both will offer the iPhone in the UK from the end of the year, a report claims.
These denials follow reports which emerged last week, reports which suggested Orange would join O2 in selling the device in the UK market by the end of the year.
It was then claimed that the exclusive deal between Apple and O2 was due to expire this year, leaving Apple open to working with other carriers in the region. These reports were unfounded, it seems, with O2 once again stressing it holds a multi-year agreement with Apple for iPhone distribution in the UK. The iPhone has been available in the UK for under a year.

Microsoft legal bans iPhone Windows Vista emulator...
Microsoft's legal team has struck down against an iPhone hacker who was developing and distributing software to emulate Vista on an iPhone.
The coder told ModMyiFone, "Due to a big fat legal letter that was sent from Microsoft, I will no longer be making/distributing Vista themes."
The developer was building software called VistaPerfection 2.0, software which hacks the user interface of the iPhone for the 'perfect' Vista experience. The software offers over 90 icons along with the Vista wallpaper, dock and on/off 'experience'.
It replaces the iPhone dock with Windows Vista style bar, while the WiFi icon, EDGE icon, and even the slide to unlock arrow were all to be Vista-themed as well.

Weitere Sicherheitslücke klafft in Safari
Unter Berufung auf die National Vulnerability Database berichtet heise, dass Apples Webbrowser Safari anfällig für sogenannte "Session-Fixation-Angriffe" ist. Darunter versteht man die Tatsache, dass es einem Angreifer ermöglicht wird, seinem Opfer einen Cookie unterzuschieben, der von Safari später verwendet wird, wenn sich der Angegriffene bei einem Webdienst anmeldet. Der Cookie hatte der Abgreifer selbst zuvor von dem betreffenden Web-Dienst erhalten, so dass der Angreifer nun die Verbindung des Opfers mitbenutzen und ggf. dessen Daten ausspionieren kann.

LEGO Mindstorms ready for Tuesday space launch

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of LEGO Mindstorms, a group of professors, middle-school students, and corporate nerds will be launching several Mindstorms robots into near-space. The High Altitude LEGO Extravaganza (HALE) project will set the robots aloft in an atmospheric weather balloon shortly before sunrise this morning outside of Reno, Nevada. At about 100,000 feet (30km) the balloon will burst and the robots will parachute back to terra firma collecting data and photographs along the way. Windows 7 Officially Announced for January 2010
Time for rumors is now over as Microsoft officially announced that the successor of Vista, aka Windows 7, is expected to ship on January 2010.

Verizon Acknowledges the Impact of the iPhone
As reported by Electronista, Verizon acknowledges the impact of the iPhone 3G on its financial result. In its conference call devoted to its latest quarterly results, the company announced that the new Apple iPhone 3G had only a small short-term impact. However, they forgot to mention that AT&T quickly run out of stock for the iPhone 3G, and the impact might be delay till the next quarter. They also report that the iPhone 3G had a beneficial impact too on their sales: more than 30% of phones sold are now smartphones.

Dell Released Firmware Updates for NVidia-based Notebooks
It is no clear that NVidia does not plan to make public the real impact of its manufacturing problem affecting GeForce 8400M- and 8600M-based GS, GT and other Quadro FX models and leading to the death of the GPU due to an inappropriate heat management (see our previous news about it). Apple proposes for the very first time a Macbook Air at the french Refurb store for 1399, all taxes included. It is the base model that runs at 1,6 GHz and features an 80GB Pata hard drive.
The Aluminum iMacs are still available as well. We recently bought the cheapest 20" which was absolutly brand new. The only flaw was a bit of dust stuck behind the glass plate. It took us just seconds to remove it by taking out the glass plate using kitchen suction pads (the ones used for sink unblockings).

Dell's new Inspiron 13 and Inspiron 518 are after your back to school dollar

Dell has never failed to provide compelling reasons -- particularly pricetags -- for students and / or their cash-strapped parents to pick up a Dell desktop or laptop on the way back to school. This year seems no exception, with Dell adding some special Inspiron configurations to its already beefy budget lineups. The Inspiron 13 laptop (pictured) is pretty much laptop 101, with a 13-inch screen, 8-in-1 media card reader and slot-loading DVD drive in the base model -- you'll have to fork over extra for WiFi, a webcam or Bluetooth. Pentax Optio E60's 10 megapixels are easy on the wallet

In strict megapixel to dollar terms, the new Optio E60 from Pentax is a real steal, at a mere $140 for its absurd 10 megapixels. Of course, there's more to the story. The 3x zoom and lack of optical image stabilization -- "High Sensitivity Digital Shake Reduction" is little comfort -- won't be winning you any "best candid shot of whatever we did last night" awards, but there are some decent automatic perks like face recognition and a "Green" settings mode for absolute novices that should keep you from getting booted out of your Flickr pool.
