iPhone with slide out keyboard on the way?
Yes! According to the sometimes accurate and always wittily sarcastic (in a British sort of way) Register.co.uk. They go on to give all of the prequisite "rampant speculation alerts" but say they have contacts inside mobile operators (ahem O2? you are now on Jobso's shitelist) who have seen the device.
According to their source, the slide out keyboard isn't perfect but it does work and there are prototypes aimed at the corporate market. That would indicate that they will be available fairly soon. El Reg says one year, but that seems kind of a long way off if the carriers are already messing with it.
(Yeah we know that isn't an iPhone to the right but an iPhone with a slider would most likely look like this.)

AT&T makes war against the iPhone grey market

Obviously, there is also no doubt at AT&T who have been burnt with the first generation iPhone. According to an internal note issued by the company, the employees are more than are highly encouraged to ensure that there is total activation of the iPhone at the store, which implies that the customer subscribes to a subscription and provides all the necessary paperwork.
Of course, under this new regime, it will greatly increase the time needed for each purchase. AT&T thus strongly encourages its employees to take a heavy load of overtime during the launching phase.
Note that to simplify the task, Apple provided to AT&T a version of iTunes that has been simplified to make only the activation of the iPhone.

If you just shelled out some pretty pennies for the a high-speed, low-power SSD, Tom's Hardware may have stumbled onto some findings that won't sit well. Schweizer bekommen iPhone 3G mit Prepaid-Tarif

Finally, a piece of news we can actually do something with. AT&T today announced its pricing structure for the next iteration of Apple's iPhone. There's not much that's surprising here -- new customers and those eligible for an upgrade will be able to nab the phone for $199 (8GB) or $299 (16GB), while "early upgraders" will have to fork over $399 or $499, all with a two year contract and $18 upgrade fee, of course. EA games vet makes iPhone play away
Veteran Electronics Arts games developer Neil Young has begun a new venture - iPhone game development.
Young, who has work on The Lord of the Rings, Sims 2 and Majestic to his name, has launched his new firm, Ngcomo, which he says will develop games for the iPhone and mobile platforms.
"I'm leaving EA to found a new type of mobile games publisher that is specifically focused on games for the iPhone and beyond -- that class of mobile phone, a more open mobile platform that has the type of capability you see in a device like the iPhone," he told Gamasutra.

Apple iPhone 3G demand to be 'unprecedented'
Apple faces "unprecedented" demand for the iPhone 3G, reports RBC Technology analyst, Mike Abramsky.
Citing recent research conducted on behalf of RBC Technology, the analyst told Silicon Alley Insider that 56 per cent of those planning to purchase a smartphone in the next ninety days plan to buy an iPhone - that's up form 35 per cent in March.
The research also revealed that consumer interest in the iPhone has grown faster than in advance of any other phone launch recorded by the company. And 10.5% of those surveyed intend to buy a smartphone -- any smartphone -- up from 7%-8% average over the last few years.
Additional findings:
- 25 per cent of those surveyed may buy an iPhone 3G in the future - twice the level of interest seen before launch of the first product last year

The foundation, called the Allied Security Trust, will take $250,000 in buy-in money and $5M in escrow from member companies -- Verizon, Google, Ericsson, HP, and Cisco are apparently the founding corporations -- and use it to buy up patents to prevent future litigation. iPhone 3G: Upgrade-Konditionen für Bestandskunden
Mit einem Complete-Vertrag ausgestattete T-Mobile-Kunden können gegen eine eine Zahlung von 15 Euro pro Monat der Restlaufzeit in einen neuen 24-Monatsvertrag wechseln und erhalten dann das iPhone 3G zu den ab 11. Juli gültigen neuen Gerätepreisen ab einem Euro. Diese Information erhielten heute verschiedene Kunden auf Anfrage bei den Geschäfts- und Privatkundenhotlines der Telekom, eine offizielle Bestätigung steht noch aus.
Einen Kunden, der seinen Complete-Vertrag im Januar abgeschlossen hat, kostet das neue iPhone somit beispielsweise 18 Monate Restlaufzeit x 15 Euro = 270 Euro plus den neuen, vom Vertrag abhängigen subventionierten Gerätepreis zwischen 1 Euro und 249,95 Euro. Das Angebot scheint im Vergleich mit anderen Mobilfunkunternehmen und den dort gebotenen Möglichkeiten, während der Vertagslaufzeit an ein neues subventioniertes Handy zu kommen durchaus realistisch.

Debitel verkauft iPhone 3G
Wie die Welt Online meldet, darf Debitel das iPhone 3G ab dem 11. Juli bei den Handelsketten Media Markt und Saturn verkaufen. Dem Bericht zufolge hat der Mobilfunk-Dienstleister mit Apples Exklusiv-Partner T-Mobile eine entsprechende Vereinbarung getroffen. Auch der spätere Verkauf über Karstadt und Kaufhof sei denkbar. If ZDnet clock is indeed very simple to use, in reality it might not always provide the expected overclock experience expected.
Several reports we have collected from users and from the web indicate that it sometimes does not work at all. If it is too early to define rules, some users could achieve a substantial overclock while other could not even overclock the bus frequency by 1 MHz!
After performing several test, such variability seems to be linked to the RAM modules as we indicated yesterday it is the limiting factor. Kurz nach Mac OS X 10.5.4 hat Apple ein Safari-Update für die letzte Tiger-Version (OS X 10.4.11) herausgegeben.
