Star Trek fans rescue Enterprise-D bridge, plan to restore it to former glory
A trio of Star Trek: The Next Generation fans have rescued the junked remains of the Enterprise-D bridge from Paramount Pictures, with an eye to restoring it to its former glory. The fibre glass set was built for Star Trek: The Experience, after the original (wooden) set was unsurprisingly destroyed filming Star Trek: Generations. RunKeeper and GymPact want you to get paid for tracking your fitness
Staying motivated to achieve your fitness goals is always difficult. But would you be motivated if someone actually decided to pay you for sticking to those fitness goals? That's the idea behind GymPact, which today announced a partnership with RunKeeper to link the latter company's fitness tracking app to its pay-for-workouts motivational service.

Samsung Stratosphere II flaunts its keyboard for Verizon, LG Spectrum 2 confirmed as VS930
We've had a successor to the Stratosphere on our radar for a while now, but the expected refresh is now much more tangible, as the Samsung Stratosphere II has just been leaked as part of Verizon's equipment guide. Other than its QWERTY keyboard, 4-inch Super AMOLED display and LTE connectivity, however, little is known about the Android smartphone. Samsung maintains focus on component partnerships with Apple
After taking a significant blow in US courts for patent infringement in an ongoing legal battle with Apple, Samsung is reportedly working to ensure that the conflict does not pollute the companies' component partnerships. The Korean company is said to have held an emergency meeting in Seoul on Sunday, as executives talked of maintaining an "internal firewall" between the company's phone segment and component supply group, according to a Reuters report.

Samsung shares shed $12B following verdict
In the first day of trading since a California jury handed Apple a $1.05 billion victory over Samsung, shares in the South Korean electronics manufacturer tumbled by about 7.5 percent to finish at their lowest close in a month. In a day of heavy trading, Samsung shed more than $12 billion in value as investors feared that the verdict would signal future troubles given that the company faces yet another patent lawsuit from Apple, one that targets its best-selling Galaxy S III. Despite the stock price drop, a number of investors believe the Korean company is on solid footing going forward.

Google reacts to Apple vs. Samsung decision
Samsung and Google didn't waste anytime issuing statements on Friday after the jury handed down its decision in the US infringement trial between the two companies. Noticeably absent in the aftermath was Google, which waited a few days before commenting on the verdict. In a statement provided to The Verge, Google said the patents in the case "do not relate to the core Android operating system" and added that the entire mobile industry is "building on ideas that have been around for decades."

Samsung issues memo to employees after loss to Apple
Samsung issued a memo to its employees today in response to the Friday verdict finding that the company willfully infringed on a number of Apple patents. Apple CEO Tim Cook was quick to send an email to employees on Friday stating that "The jury has now spoken. We applaud them for finding Samsung's behavior willful and for sending a loud and clear message that stealing isn't right." Samsung's employee memo wasn't so upbeat.

Apple adds support options for iBookstore publishers
In very welcome news to iBookstore publishers, Apple has recently added some support options to make it easier to get answers about pesky issues that might be delaying the sale of the next Great American Novel.
In a letter to iBookstore publishers last week, Apple outlined four different support options. First, the Book Forum is part of the Apple Support Communities and a great way to search for answers to questions that others may have already asked. There's also an FAQ for iTunes Connect (requires iTunes Connect account to log in), the tool that's used to submit books to the store.

We got a look at some hybrid PC concepts from Sony at CES way back in January, and it looks like we could soon be seeing one such device in actual product form. Samsung reassures employees in post-verdict internal memo
Following the considerable defeat handed it last Friday, Samsung has issued an internal memo reassuring its employees and reaffirming its commitment to continue the fight against Apple. The note was revealed today in a post on Samsung Tomorrow Global, and its language is decidedly less defiant than the initial statement Samsung issued Friday evening. The internal memo, like that previous statement, makes no mention of an appeal. Apple vs. Samsung verdict: How Wall Street is reacting
It's the first full day of Wall Street trading since Friday's Samsung patent infringement verdict, and the markets and analysts are reacting pretty much as expected. AAPL opened trading today at $679.99 a share (up about 2 percent), peaked briefly at $680.87, and is currently moving around the $677 mark.

LG's Game World landing on its own Smart TVs
LG has just announced Game World, a new Smart TV portal that's only available to Cinema 3D Smart TV owners. The service will let users snap up downloadable games in categories such as action, RPG or arcade, then play them in 2D or 3D with the company's Magic Remote or other third-party controller. Hisense Pulse Google TV set-top box coming in November for $99
It was just two days ago that a Google product manager let slip that Google was working with Hisense on a low-cost Google TV box. Apple to open first Swedish retail store
A visit to a mall in Sweden by Swedish site IDG.se has confirmed (by the familiar black covering and the Apple logo) that there is indeed a new store opening up near Stockholm. The Täby Spectrum shopping center will host that country's first Apple Store, starting on September 15.

Samsung asks court to toss Galaxy Tab 10.1 injunction
Samsung has asked the US District Court for the Northern District of California to reverse its preliminary injunction on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and award damages to compensate for lost sales during the temporary ban. As reported by Techdows, Dropbox is allowing beta users to enable two-step verification on their accounts. Two-step verification requires users to enter a six-digit security code along with their password when they login to Dropbox or add a new computer, phone or tablet to their account.

Apple/Samsung jury foreman cites tech experience in quick verdict
Now that a decision has been made in the patent trial between Apple and Samsung, the jury is free to speak to the press about the proceedings. Juror Manual Ilagan spoke to CNET and told reporter Greg Sandoval that the jurors decided Samsung had infringed after only one day of deliberations. Ilagan pointed to the email exchanges among Samsung execs and Samsung's video testimony that convinced him the Korean company had copied Apple. Google has issued its first comments following Apple's landmark victory over Samsung in its US court case. Immediately following the case, the company left Apple and Samsung do the talking as both companies tried to lay claim to the high moral ground following the $1 billion verdict. Scientists investigating AI-based traffic control, so we can only blame the jams on ourselves
Ever found yourself stuck at the lights convinced that whatever is controlling these things is just trying to test your patience, and that you could do a better job?
