Google Street View cams peek inside Queen Mary's staterooms
Google didn't have to head far from its Mountain View HQ to capture the 1930s golden age of British shipbuilding for Street View. The RMS Queen Mary, which personifies that era, is located conveniently down the coast from the California-based search giant at Long Beach. While it hasn't budged since the '60s, the former liner is a popular tourist attraction and has a hotel, museum and restaurants. Turning an old Apple mouse into a modern Bluetooth mouse
This Instructable is a pretty sweet project that some of you might want to take on this weekend: It'll teach you how to combine an 80s-era Apple mouse body with the innards of a modern Bluetooth wireless mouse, thus turning Apple's user interface innovation into a device usable with almost any modern day computer.
You will probably need to use a Dremel tool and a little glue to make the new mouse's board fit into Apple's old case, but it all seems pretty simple, and in the end, you'll have a sharp-looking retro mouse that uses Bluetooth.
The old Apple mouse only has one button, so you'll have to control-click (or download a separate app on Windows) to simulate

iOS Support Matrix: Welches Gerät unterstützt welche iOS-Version?

First round of Apple dividend payouts to start on Thursday
On Thursday, Apple will begin issuing the first batch of its recently-promised dividend payments to investors. The company announced the plan in March, and later set a date of August 16th for payouts to start. To qualify, though, people must have been shareholders on or before August 13th.

Double: iPad auf zwei Rädern
Der Zubehörmarkt für Apples Produkte ist um eine Erweiterung reicher. Der Double vom Hersteller Double Robotics erinnert an den zweirädrigen Segway. Der Unterschied: Statt eines Menschen steht auf dem kleinem Fahrgestell ein iPad, welches von einem entfernten iPad gesteuert werden kann.
Das auf dem Double befestigte iPad wird als Kamera und Display genutzt, auf dem das Bild des entfernten iPad angezeigt wird. Die Person an diesem entfernten iPad steuert auch den kleinen Roboter. iPad point of sale kiosk spied at Panera Bread
Reader Domenico Bettinelli has shared this image of an iPad at a Panera Bread in Pennsylvania. It's being used as a customer-facing point of sale kiosk, which sounds pretty handy. Domenico writes:
"You pay at right the station and then pick up your cup. [When your meal is ready], they bring the meal to your table."

Nielsen: Teens choose YouTube over iTunes, radio, CDs
Teenaged Americans will more readily turn to YouTube to listen to music than they will any other source. This according to a new study out from Nielsen Music 360, which found that, though radio remains the most popular medium for discovering new music, Google's video streaming site is more popular than radio, iTunes, or CDs when it comes to listening. The study also revealed that nearly half of teens have radio apps on their smartphones and that digital music has surpassed physical CDs in terms of perception of value.

Telenav's free Scout nav app gets offline navigation, speech recognition
In January of 2012, Telenav announced Scout, a free "daily personal navigator" app for iPhone. Today the company has released a new version of the app with improved features including Always There Navigation, a downloadable offline navigation feature that provide GPS navigation whether or not you're in a wireless coverage zone.

Apple wins patents for in-cell touch, DVR-like concepts
Apple has won US rights to a pair of potentially important patents, reports observe. The first -- Touch screen liquid crystal display -- describes what is better known as an in-cell touchscreen, embedding touch sensors into an LCD instead of a separate layer. Most screens continue to sandwich multiple layers, including those used on Apple devices like the iPhone 4S and third-generation iPad. Apple has, however, been rumored as switching to in-cell tech for the next iPhone, which could ship in late September.

SHAPE Services has an iPad version of its Business Card Reader app that'll make it easy for you to manage your business cards right on your tablet. The iPad version works in a similar way as its iPhone counterpart. It uses the camera on your iPad 3 to snap a photo of a business card and has a text recognition system that'll parse out the relevant contact details. Toshiba backs out of Windows RT devices on launch, pins it on part delays
Microsoft was quick to champion its new Windows RT partners, but it'll have to count one out. Prez Elect USA for iOS will let you run your own political campaign
Just in time for the political season, Prez Elect USA is a universal iOS game that allows you to choose your party and then campaign across the U.S. looking for electoral votes. You can try to get good press, make lots of speeches, engage in debates and raise money. The game is time limited, so you only have a certain amount of time to win.
The game moves fast as you and your opponent compete for electoral votes. There is music and a variety of sound effects to enhance gameplay.
The game seems short on strategy and long on moving quickly to secure each state. Playing it, I felt I was racing against the clock, rather than trying to make the best moves to get elected. I think this might be a good game for young players to introduce

I have several Mail accounts. One for work, one personal, and one that gets a lot of junk. I like all of them to come into my Mail app, but I don't need a notification in Mountain Lion every time a piece of junk mail comes through.

PlayStation Mobile detailed: different screens, same games

Panasonic unveils new AVCCAM series camera
Panasonic announced today the impending release of its AG-AC90 memory card camera recorder, an addition to its AVCCAM series. The AG-AC90 will have a zoom lens capable of extending from 29.8mm wide angle to 12x optical zoom, and it will include a number of professional-grade features while remaining easy to operate. QuarkXPress 9.3.1 update brings Mountain Lion support
Quark has released an important update forQuarkXPress 9, its flagship publishing suite. The v9.3.1 release adds support for OS X Mountain Lion, which was launched last month. As a part of the upgrade, QuarkXPress has been made compatible with Mountain Lion's Gatekeeper technology, which normally blocks uncertified apps from being installed. The v9.3.1 code should now install properly under Gatekeeper's default security level.

PS Vita and PS3 cross-buy feature revealed: buy one copy, get the other free
Sony's kicked off its Gamescom event in Germany by revealing a new deal for games playable on both the PS3 and handheld PS Vita. The incoming PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault will be two of the first titles to arrive on both -- with a single purchase giving you both versions. European carriers start pre-order tickets for new iPhone
European carriers are already beginning to offer pre-order reservations for the next-generation iPhone, reports say. The first of these appears to be Deutsche Telekom, which is now issuing tickets to interested customers through its distribution partners. BERG Little Printer now up for pre-order, priced at $260
BERG's RSS feed-printing Little Printer that was introduced back in November has now been put up for pre-order. The printer can also pull updates from Foursquare and Google as well as produce task lists, location updates, and direct messages from friends. The printer will cost $259 plus shipping and will begin arriving in customers' hands in about 60 days, though this will be a limited production cycle. Burglars steal over $60,000 in goods from Steve Jobs' home
Thieves last month stole over $60,000 worth of "computers and personal items" from the home of former Apple CEO Steve Jobs, the San Jose Mercury News reports. The house, on the 2100 block of Waverley Street in Palo Alto, was actually broken into on July 17th. It took until August 2nd however for police to arrest Kariem McFarlin, a 35-year-old man from Alameda. On August 7th, he was arraigned on one count of residential burglary and selling stolen property.

Motorola soll RAZR HD und HD MAXX im Oktober rausbringen

Smartphone-Verkaufszahlen: Samsung weiter vorne, Apple auf Rang 3
Im Rennen um die Marktanteile hat Samsung im zweiten Quartal 2012 seinen Vorsprung weiter ausbauen können. Analysten zufolge konnten zwischen April und Juni insgesamt 419 Millionen Mobiltelefone abgesetzt werden. Der koreanische Hersteller schnappte sich 21,6 Prozent des Marktes. Palo Alto home of late Steve Jobs burglarized
The San Jose Mercury News reports that the home of the late Steve Jobs was burglarized July 17, with "computers and personal items" being apparently stolen and possibly sold. No doubt the items stolen would have great value to some people if they knew whose family they were taken from. No word on whether all of the items taken were recovered.

Double, the iPad telepresence robot rolls around the office when you can't
Get ready to see iPads zipping around your office. As a remote worker I'm fascinated by telepresence robots, or a remote robotic avatar which lives at an office and roams the halls under your control, typically interacting through a 2-way video chat tool. Naturally, Double Robotics took the iPad's advantages and built what looks like a tiny Segway for the iPad to move about on, calling it the Double.
The Double mounts an iPad up top for communicating, has an adjustable height, and uses a second iPad for controls. The video below shows the robot in action. The iPad is almost perfectly suited to this task, being a lightweight but head-sized video communicator when needed.

Vielleicht bahnt sich hier doch noch das Sommerloch an, vielleicht ist japanischer Humor auch nur einfach abgrundtief merkwürdig. New research by by Gartner indicates that the global smartphone market contracted by 2.3 percent last quarter against the same period last year. Es kommt recht selten vor, dass Apple eigene Technologien an andere Hersteller lizenziert. Am Wochenende wurde bekannt, dass ein solches Angebot gegenüber Samsung bestand, als Apple immer stärker zur Überzeugung kam, in welchem Umfang Android Gebrauch von geschützten Apple-Technologien macht. iPhone 4(S): Apple soll roten Bumper planen
Wer seinem iPhone eine von Apples offiziellen “Bumper”-Schutzhüllen spendieren möchte und gleichzeitig die Farbe rot mag, sollte vielleicht noch etwas warten, statt sich mit den bestehenden Farben zu begnügen: Demnächst soll es den Bumper auch in rot geben.

Call of Duty Multiplayer angespielt: Black Ops 2 auf dem iPad

Weil in London soviel rumgetweetet wurde und sowieso nie genug Technik im Turnschuh stecken kann, hat Adidas einen adiPower Barricade zum Social Media Shoe umbauen lassen und will nach diesem Muster zu den nächsten Spielen 2016 ein reguläres Modell auf den Markt bringen. Verizon brings Viewdini service to iOS devices
Verizon Wireless has announced an enhancement to its Viewdini video-on-demand service. Starting today, Verizon customers with an iPhone 4, 4S, iPad 2, or current-generation iPad can now download the previously Android-only Viewdini application and stream content from subscription and free providers such as Comcast Xfinity, Hulu Plus, mSpot, Netflix, Verizon Video, Verizon FiOS, Vimeo, and other TV sites to their mobile devices.

Apple rests case, Samsung challenges patent validity
Apple today rested its case after calling a damages expert to the stand in its contentious patent lawsuit with Samsung in Judge Lucy Koh's court in San Francisco. After spending more time cross-examining Apple's witnesses than Apple took in questioning them, Samsung has started its offensive, challenging the presence of three of its devices in the suit, and attempting to call into question the validity of Apple's touchscreen patents.

Judge bars Samsung from presenting two witnesses
Samsung suffered a sizable setback in its patent battle with Apple over the weekend, as US District Judge Lucky Koh barred the South Korean manufacturer from presenting two witnesses. Twitter acquires Clutch.io, service essentially getting open sourced
Clutch.io is a service that allows iOS and mobile developers to easily and quickly do app testing, which helps them track just how customers use their apps. The service has been helpful in the past for a number of app developers and their products, but Clutch has now flipped over to just one client: The company has been acquired by Twitter. Clutch says it will work on the same type of work at Twitter, aiming to grow the company on a worldwide scale.
