iOS 6 code may hint at 9-pin dock connector

The iOS 6 beta may hint that Apple's new dock connector format will actually use 9 pins, according to 9to5Mac. Part of the firmware's code records hardware features of iOS devices; one line specifically reads "000002d9c t_copyDeviceSupports9Pin." If future iOS devices are switching to a 9-pin format, however, it would contradict other reports pointing to an 8- or 19-pin design.

Judge shoots down Samsung's claims of doctoring

Judge Koh has rejected an objection motion filed by Samsung alleging that Apple had tampered with the image of a Samsung phone to make it look more like an Apple product. This latest development comes as the patent battle between between the two electronics giants continued today, and The Verge reports that Judge Koh has had stern words for both sides of the case.

Sprint: iPhone worth the huge financial commitment

Sprint CEO Dan Hesse told Ina Fried of AllthingsD and other reporters who are touring Sprint's headquarters in Kansas that the iPhone is worth the billions that the carrier is spending on the device. According to Hesse, Sprint considered Apple's offer and "saw no reason to bet against Apple." In the end, the wireless carrier agreed to buy US$15.5 billion worth of iPhones over the next four years. Big updates for Fairway Solitaire and Junk Jack

Two of my favorite iOS games from the last few years have gotten big updates today. Fairway Solitaire is a really brilliant puzzle/card game that combines golf and solitaire in a fun way, and it's gotten a big update that adds a whole bunch of ongoing content. The game now has a "Daily Mode" where you can play a brand new challenge every single day, and earn new Challenge Cups to unlock even more courses. There's also a new card back and push notifications -- Fairway Solitaire is completely free, and that makes it one of the best cost-to-fun ratio games I've ever seen on any platform. A federal appeals court has ruled today that the US government can tap into Americans' communications without worrying over frivolous things like "being sued" by its people. Samsung accused of, denies employing child labor through Chinese contractor

Despite improvements, working conditions are still a sore point in China -- and China Labor Watch wants to emphasize that no company is exempt from scrutiny. Apple, Google said to be bidding on Kodak imaging patents

Kodak has received two patents bids from investors groups including Apple and Google of between $150 million and $250 million, according to the Wall Street Journal. The photography company is selling off some 1,100 patents related to digital imaging as a part of bankruptcy proceedings, hoping to pay off creditors. Apple gegen Samsung: Experte sieht Verletzung der Apple-Design-Patente

Auch in dieser Woche setzt sich die Verhandlung vor einem kalifornischen Gericht im Fall Apple gegen Samsung gegen Apple fort. Gestern kam Peter Bressler, ein von Apple engagierter unabhängiger Designer in den Zeugenstand, um darzulegen, dass und wie Samsung von Apple kopiert haben soll. Peter Bressler war früher Präsident der Industrial Designers Society und ist heute Verwaltungsratsvorsitzender des Design-Unternehmens Bresslergroup. Apple hat den Designer für stolze 400 US-Dollar pro Stunde engagiert, um Ähnlichkeiten zwischen dem Design der Samsung-Produkte und dem des iPhone und iPad zu analysieren. Klaut Samsung Apples Icons?

Der Streit zwischen Samsung und Apple wird immer absurder.  Im Kampf vor Gericht hat Apple nun Beispiele dafür vorgelegt, wie Samsung mit deren eigener Android-Oberfläche TouchWiz das Design der iOS-Apps kopiert. Allerdings muss auch ich sagen, dass Apple mit dieser Sache Recht hat.   Es mag zwar eher eine Lappalie sein und ist deshalb auch etwas absurd, aber es zeigt dennoch auf, dass Samsung sich in Sachen Design doch die ein oder andere Sache ganz offensichtlich beim Konkurrenten abgeschaut hat. Während ich den Streit um das Design der Telefone und Tablets wirklich lächerlich finde, ist die Sache bei Icons doch irgendwie  anders. iTry – Das Fazit

Wie fühlt man sich als Android-Redakteur nach 4 Wochen nur von Apple-Geräten umzingelt? Zwischen App-Store, dem Betriebssystem MacOS und einem für mich viel zu kleinem Smartphone-Display bin ich hin- und hergerissen. Die Qualität der Ware ist enorm gut, das System dahinter nicht in allen Fällen. Hier also das Fazit zu meinem ersten iTry: Windows Rechner, Smartphone von Samsung (Galaxy S3) und gar kein Tablet. So sitze ich 6 Wochen nach Beginn des iTry an meinem Arbeitsplatz und sinniere zwischen CMD und STRG. Mir fehlt das glatte Touchpad und die Gestensteuerung vom MacOS. Dennoch gewöhne ich mich schnell wieder an Windows und seinem eher “erwachsenen”, viel zu ernsten Look. Beim

The third-largest US iPhone carrier, Sprint, quietly dropped the price of the iPhone 4S by $50 across almost all sizes over the weekend, with the 16GB model now starting at $150 on a two-year contract, though the base 8GB model remains at $100. Foxconn investment in Sharp looking less likely due to LCD manufacturer's shrinking stock value

Foxconn's parent, Hon Hai Precision Industry, partnered up with Sharp earlier this year, taking a stake in Sharp's Sakai LCD manufacturing plant and investing another $850 million in the company.
