Dropbox gibt Diebstahl von E-Mail-Adressen bekannt

FDA approves Proteus Digital Health's e-pills for dose monitoring

Google begins shipping free Nexus Q pre-orders
Just yesterday, Google sent out a note letting Nexus Q pre-orderers know that the strange little streaming device would be delayed, so the company could "work on making it even better." That note came with some rosy news, however, informing early adopters that they would be receiving the device for free, so they could join in on the extended beta testing. Today we got a note from one of the aforementioned pre-orderers informing him that the device had shipped. We reached out to Google, who confirmed the shipments. Still no world on how long the rest of the world will have to wait for the new and improved Q, however.

There's something universally appealing about the concept of a 3D printer -- that concept being an automated system capable of turning computer code into real-world objects. Samsung defends decision to leak evidence to media
A lawyer acting on behalf of Samsung has defended the company's decision to seed evidence banned in court to the media. John Quinn, a managing partner of the lawfirm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, insists that the move was "lawful" and "ethical" in a new filing, submitted in response to federal Judge Lucy Kohís request for an explanation, which was in turn prompted by a complaint from an Apple lawyer. The evidence was emailed to meet requests from the media, according to Quinn.

Amazon has released long-anticipated mobile app for the iPad, Instant Video. Blackmagic Cinema Camera pushed back a few weeks, new footage shown
Unfortunately, there's a delay for cinéastes anxiously awaiting their 12-bit RAW Blackmagic Cinema Cameras, but the news isn't all bad. Dear Aunt TUAW: My Lion-only MacBook just died. Help!

The hard drive in my late 2006 black MacBook died this week. I purchased a new hard drive for it, used my OS X 10.6 install CD and then updated.
I then went to the Mac App Store and found I can no longer download Lion, even with trying to hold the Option key down.

Star Trek: TNG S1 Blu-ray set has an audio flaw, free replacements are available
Soon after the Star Trek: The Next Generation Season One Blu-ray set launched last week reports came in that there was an audio problem with the surround sound, and now CBS and Paramount have responded. New Digg iPhone app available
Just when you thought that Digg had faded into the obscure fog of irrelevancy, the company comes out with a new Digg app for iPhone (free). The app is getting a lot of buzz, perhaps just because many users have moved on to other ways of getting their top news.
The new app features a "clean mobile-friendly view" that has been described by some reviewers as not providing a whole heck of a lot of content to look at. Sharing with friends via Facebook, Twitter and email is built in, as you'd expect from a modern iPhone app.

Google Wallet moves to the cloud, opens up to all credit and debit cards
Google Wallet has been hampered by a number of limitations since its launch, not the least of which is its limited device compatibility. Perhaps a bigger problem though, was its lack of support for most major credit and debit cards. Today that finally changes with the latest version of Big G's mobile payment system. Apple restores new Retina MBP BTO options, adds iWork
Apple appears to have restored new build-to-order options for the lower-end model of the Retina MacBook Pro. Canalys: PC and tablet shipments hit new high in Q2 with Apple in the lead, HP next in line

OUYA wrapping up funding with limited brown metal console, Vevo deal

AT&T adopting 'anything but iPhone' strategy, sources say
AT&T is deliberately trying to steer retail shoppers away from the iPhone, according to three sources for the Boy Genius Report. Regional sales managers have allegedly been handing instructions to store managers, telling them that people looking for smartphones should be directed towards Android or Windows Phone devices instead. ComScore: Android back above 51 percent of US share, iOS still growing briskly

Canalys: Apple ships one-fifth of global PC shipments
Apple products accounted for about one-fifth of all global PC shipments in the second quarter of this year. This according to a new report out from Canalys, which saw the iPad maker with a sizable lead over the competition when iPads are taken into account. New rumor suggests 8-pin dock, iOS 6 Bluetooth link
Apple's new, smaller dock connector format may actually use 8 pins instead of 19, two iLounge sources claim. One of the people adds that the new format could have some other features, such as possibly connecting to docks and cables in either orientation, much like MagSafe connectors. The 8-pin claim would conflict, though, with most reports about the new format, which have held to Apple using at least 16 pins and more often 19.

Apple's architect of iPhone, iPad CPU leaves for AMD
When you're the best, people want you. CPU manufacturer AMD apparently wanted the best, and they've lured Apple's head chip designer Jim Keller away from the company.
Keller became an Apple employee in 2008 when Apple acquired startup chipmaker PA Semi. Keller has some former history with AMD, having been the original architect of the Athlon line of processors that were popular in 2005-2006.

John Carmack-backed Oculus Rift VR project hits Kickstarter, developer kits start at $300
We heard late last month that the John Carmack-backed Oculus Rift VR headset would be hitting Kickstarter any day now, and it looks like today is the big day. The project has just launched on the crowd-funding site with a goal of $250,000. Nokia Drive offline navigation review: taking the Lumia 900 for an off-the-grid spin
I've sung praises about it for years, but it seems like only now the industry is getting on the same train of thought. It could be my unnatural adoration of travel, or just an entirely healthy fear of getting lost, but offline navigation has long since been a top priority for me when choosing a mobile device. Or, more importantly, a mobile operating system. For the longest while, iOS forced my hand to Android due to Google Maps Navigation being available only on the latter, and while even that wasn't offline, it still far surpassed any other routing app in terms of system integration, map updates and general silkiness.

Apple posts, pulls added BTO options for Retina MacBook Pro
Apple today briefly added extra build-to-order options to the lower-end version of the Retina MacBook Pro before removing them, according to MacRumors. The system has typically been restricted to a 2.3GHz Core i7 processor and a 256GB SSD, the only upgrade option being a bump from 8 to 16GB of RAM. For a short time, though, Apple suddenly made a full range of upgrades available on its online store, namely processor speeds up to 2.7GHz, and/or up to 768GB of SSD space.

Thunderbolt to Firewire cable appears, disappears on Apple Store
The long-awaited Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter made its debut on Apple's online store this morning, but the product page appears to be appearing and disappearing at will. I wasn't able to see the cable listing, but Erica Sadun and Dave Caolo did; as of 11am ET, it appears to be down again. Assuming it does go on sale today, the cable will cost $29.99 and apparently will ship in one to three business days.

Fanhattan for iOS adds HBO, NBC, more
Fanhattan is a video aggreggator with an app on the iPad and iPhone, and as of today, that app became a little more useful. The service has added HBO Go, Cinemax, NBC, and CW content to its service, which means that you can now find those videos in the Fanhattan listings and follow the links out of the app to watch them on their respective networks.
Fanhattan will also clue you in when certain shows or movies become available on all of the various streaming networks, so it sounds pretty handy indeed. The app is a free download on iOS right now.

Apple's senior VP for iOS software, Scott Forstall, will soon testify on behalf of his company in the ongoing Apple v. Samsung patent trial, AppleInsider notes. iOS developer Readdle celebrates its 5th anniversary
A few weeks after the debut of the original iPhone in 2007, Readdle's first product, a web service for reading documents, launched. Two of the four co-founders had previous experience in development and programming for other platforms, including mobile and web. In 2008, after the App Store opened, ReaddleDocs was Readdle's first official App Store offering.
Readdle is celebrating its fifth anniversary today, and marketing manager Denys Zhadanov said it's much harder to for apps to break through now because of competition, big names, marketing and other factors. MobileMe: Komplette Abschaltung der Dienste in den kommenden Tagen
Die MobileMe-Dienste wurden offiziell Ende Juni eingestellt und durch iCloud ersetzt. Die Migration von Daten aus MobileMe in die iCloud allerdings wurde für eine “begrenzte Zeit” weiterhin ermöglicht, diese Phase endet nun ebenfalls. Wer noch MobileMe-Daten besitzt, sollte diese zeitnah auf iCloud migrieren. Der Apple Support ließ wissen, dass die komplette Abschaltung aller Accounts beginnt.

While most eyes are on the San Francisco-based US District Court trial between Samsung and Apple, the iPad maker has many other legal actions it is either pursuing or defending against in courtrooms around the US and other countries. Developments in a different case were seen as a loss for Apple on Tuesday, as HTC won the right to sever its case against Apple from one against Motorola Mobility in Miami, and move its fight against Apple to another US District Court.

Nine jurors remain in the Apple versus Samsung court case currently being heard in a San Francisco courtroom -- many were removed from the pool before the case even started. The nine jurors left were selected on the basis of having not formed any opinions on the case based on media coverage or personal reading. Fanhattan for iOS adds HBO, NBC, more
Fanhattan is a video aggreggator with an app on the iPad and iPhone, and as of today, that app became a little more useful. The service has added HBO Go, Cinemax, NBC, and CW content to its service, which means that you can now find those videos in the Fanhattan listings and follow the links out of the app to watch them on their respective networks.
Fanhattan will also clue you in when certain shows or movies become available on all of the various streaming networks, so it sounds pretty handy indeed. The app is a free download on iOS right now.

Blatantly defying Judge Lucy Koh's orders barring evidence that Apple allegedly copied a Sony phone while designing the iPhone, Samsung ordered its PR agency to send two PowerPoint presentations to reporters detailing the restricted evidence. First witnesses called in day two of Apple versus Samsung
Day two of the highly-anticipated Apple versus Samsung smartphone trial in US District Court under Judge Lucy Koh has concluded. The day began with a juror being dismissed for financial reasons, leaving a bare minimum of seven men and two women on the jury (with no alternates currently available). Broadcom unveils fifth-generation 802.11ac Wi-Fi chips
Broadcom over the weekend introduced its latest consolidated multi-wireless chips, a combination of Bluetooth 4.0 and the forthcoming 802.11ac, which offers more than twice the speed of existing 802.11n technology and yet is up to six times more power-efficient handling the same amount of data. FTC agrees to let Google settle Safari debacle for $22.5M
Officials within the US Federal Trade Commission have reportedly agreed to allow Google to pay a settlement for circumventing privacy settings in Apple's Safari browser. Wired has a great little roundup of eight do-it-yourself projects for iPhone and iPad owners today, so if you need some inspiration for your next project, be sure to give it a look.
