Papermaster already out from Apple after iPhone 4 fiasco
In a surprise move, Apple today confirmed that Senior VP of Device Hardware Engineering Mark Papermaster was leaving the company after less than two years. Neither the company nor Papermaster has said whether the executive is leaving voluntarily or was forced out of the position, but it has already removed his biography. Mac hardware engineering Senior VP Bob Mansfield will take over his responsibilities in the short term.

Mark Papermaster leaves Apple for reasons and destinations unknown
We're not quite sure chip guru Mark Papermaster ever truly settled into his role as Apple's SVP of Devices Hardware Engineering in the year and four months since he finally walked through the door, but after the recent antenna troubles someone decided that he wasn't going to work in Cupertino anymore. The New York Times reports that Papermaster has left and Bob Mansfeld (SVP of Mac Engineering) will assume his role. Geek Out macht dicht
Liebe Leser,aus zeitlichen Gründen kann ich GeekOut.de leider nicht mehr weiter führen. Auch aus dem angekündigten Nachfolgeprojekt GeekFood.de wird nichts. Warum? Neben meinem Hauptberuf als Film-Tonmeister entwickle ich - teilweise gemeinsam mit Partnern - neue Hard- & Software-Produkte für Apple-User. Hier haben sich in den letzten Tagen ganz neue Chancen ergeben, die ich gerne nutzen möchte.Bitte haben Sie Verständnis dafür, dass deshalb vorerst keine neuen Artikel mehr erscheinen werden. Die Seite bleibt online und vielleicht wird es zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt einen Relaunch geben - wer weiss. Ich möchte Ihnen allen für das überraschend grosse Interesse an diesem Magazin danken. RIM averts Saudi Arabia's BlackBerry messaging ban, negotiates surrender
It took two long years for India to (allegedly) tap BlackBerry traffic, but Saudi Arabia may not have to wait nearly as long; the Wall Street Journal reports that RIM has all but agreed to set up a local server in the country. San Francisco rolls out new smart parking meters with 'demand-responsive pricing'
San Francisco has been working on making parking "smarter" for quite a while now, and it's just recently taken another big step in that direction by starting to replace over 5,000 older parking meters with the snazzy new model pictured above. Virginia Tech's HokieSpeed supercomputer to rely on CPU and GPU synergies
Virginia Tech's no stranger to housing supercomputers -- those folks strung together 324 Mac Pros back in 2008 just for kicks, giggles and "research" -- but their latest computing monolith is quite the shift from the ordinary. A cool $2 million is floating over to Blacksburg in order to create HokieSpeed, a "versatile new supercomputing instrument" that'll soon be primed and ready to handle not just one or two tasks, but a variety of disciplines. Picasa find: Finder icon gets a new job on Canon digicam

Nachdem Gainward, Sparkle und Zotac bereits mit 2-GB-Varianten der GeForce GTX 460 an die Presse gegangen sind, hat es nicht lange gedauert, bis Palit mit einem eigenen 2-GB-Modell nachzieht. Die Karte der Tochterfirma Palit wird dabei vermutlich baugleich zum Gainward-Modell sein.

It's not expected to land at Verizon until sometime in 2011, but it's never too early to take a look at an unannounced Android slider with specs like this. AT&T SEC filing downplays risks from losing iPhone exclusive
AT&T in a newly published SEC filing discussing its latest results dropped strong hints that its iPhone exclusivity is nearing its end. The carrier devoted a significant section of its warnings to the risks that occur when "exclusivity arrangements end" and tried to minimize the potential effect. It didn't see the potential loss of Apple as a "material negative impact" and insisted that a non-exclusive wouldn't hurt customer turnover or the additions of regular subscribers.

ASUS' EeeBox EB1501P leaks out with Atom D525, Ion GPU

Slingbox account server problems cutting off web players, apps
If you're trying to watch some TV via Slingbox right now and can't, don't worry, you're not alone. A support thread on Slingbox.com lays out the problems: Trying to access watch.slingbox.com directly, logging in to the Sling site, or trying SlingPlayer via computer or a mobile device results in a page that doesn't load. Luckily, there are a few workarounds available like switching networks (some have said going from WiFi to 3G on their mobiles works) or using an older version of SlingPlayer that connects directly to your box and bypasses Sling servers. A new update to Flickpad, an iPad app that interacts with pictures on Flickr and Facebook, has been released by Shacked Software. Valve talks gaming on the Mac, says best is yet to come

Nulana has launched a new productivity title, NuKit 1.0. The software provides a number of utilities for a variety of Mac OS X tasks. Google: Augen's $150 iPad rival using pirated Android
The mystery $150 Augen Android tablet at Kmart is using a bootleg copy of Android, Google said in a response this afternoon.
