Leak shows PS3 bundle with 250GB drive, Uncharted 2
Sony's rumored 250GB PlayStation 3 gained more traction again today with a leak showing a box for the system. The pack seen by Engadget shows both the upgraded capacity for the slim PS3 and the presence of the high-profile sequel Uncharted 2 in the package. The bundle suggests Sony is mirroring the strategy it took with the 160GB PS3 until it was phased out, which tied that system to the original Uncharted for a higher $499 price.

Video: Creative Zii EGG gets firmware updated to 92.02, still looks pretty janky
Creative's just rolled out a firmware update -- version 92.02, if you're counting -- for developers of the Zii EGG. The updates include adding support for media playback on the SD card, a 3D close line effect for when you're browsing in landscape view, plus a stretching effect for browsing lists. The sample shots taken with its camera look pretty decent, and in the video which is after the break, you can catch a look at both the close line and stretching effect -- the latter of which we think has some potential to be useful, even if it's all still looking a bit rough around the edges for now. Comcast to bring TV shows to phones
Cable provider Comcast on Wednesday announced it would offer its subscribers a service that would allow them to view TV shows on their cellphones. The shows will be delivered via a wireless Internet service, which would require Comcast to provide a voice service and compete with the likes of AT&T and Verizon. Comcast has recently rolled out WiMAX wireless Internet services in certain large US cities under a joint venture with Clearwire.

Dan Brown's latest book, The Lost Symbol, has sold more copies from Amazon as an e-book than a hardcover, according to Kindle Nation Daily. The trend may not continue for much longer, as the Kindle edition was released this morning and the ranking is updated hourly. Winnipeg Apple Store to launch on Saturday
The first Apple Store in Winnipeg, Manitoba is set to launch at 10AM this Saturday, Apple has announced. The shop is located inside of the Polo Park Shopping Centre at 1485 Portage Avenue, on the intersection with St. James Street. Regular Monday-to-Friday hours are 10AM to 9PM; Saturday hours are 9:30AM to 6PM, and on Sunday, the shop is open from just 12 to 6PM.

250GB PlayStation 3 slim Uncharted 2 bundle leaked
Well, what do we have here? No sooner do we get a 250GB Xbox 360 on the horizon does this image land in our tip box, showing a PlayStation 3 slim bundle for Uncharted 2 that just so happens to have that 250GB hard drive we spotted in the FCC last month. We've been able to independently confirm that it's legit, but beyond that we've got no clue when it'll be announced or any price / release date information. We wouldn't be surprised to see this hit stores in mid-October alongside Uncharted 2, but that's just a guess on our part. With any luck

HTC Leo to support multi-touch?
A leaked video reveals that the upcoming HTC Leo handset may sport a 4.3-inch multi-touch capacitive touchscreen. The news would theoretically make it the first Windows Mobile device to support multi-touch as all Windows Mobile releases to date, including the upcoming 6.5, only officially support resistive (pressure-based) touchscreens that aren't capable of the feature. A few glimpses of the interface in the video reveal that the Leo does indeed have Windows Mobile 6.5 with HTC's TouchFLO interface on top.

iPhone 3GS ranks in middle of radiation tests
Apple's latest iPhone, the 3GS, ranks almost squarely in the middle of smartphones in terms of radiation output, a non-profit activist organization says. The Environmental Working Group notes that according to compiled data, the 3GS produces approximately 1.19W/kg of radiation. The figure is substantially lower than the worst-case examples, the T-Mobile myTouch 3G and the Kyocera Jax S1300, which each produce 1.55W/kg.

Panasonic's new EVERLED light bulbs to light up your life for 19 years
Long-lasting light bulb technology is nothing new -- people have been trying to up the lifespan these bad boys for some time. Long-lived light bulbs are generally uber-expensive, too, but we like to keep our eyes on such things. Panasonic's just unveiled the EVERLED, a line of bulbs set to be launched in Japan at the end of October. Lighter and more efficient than other LEDs on the market, these babies use 85 lumens per watt for a 40W bulb. Though the bulbs are not going to be cheap -- about $40 -- the company claims they'll have a lifespan of 19 years, bringing the overall costs down considerably. Dutch retailer refuses to carry Sony's PSP Go
Dutch retailer Nedgame has informed its customers that it will not stock Sony's upcoming PSP Go portable gaming system. The nine-store chain says it doesn't agree with Sony's sales strategy of only offering downloadable games, giving the manufactures a monopoly on game sales, as the PSP Go lacks a UMD drive. Another reason for Nedgame's decision is the high cost of the device compared to the existing PSP-3000, as it costs the equivalent of $365 to the PSP-3000's $248.

'Mad Money' report helps boost Apple stock price
Apple stock prices have risen sharply within the last 24 hours, a shift attributed to a Tuesday episode of the CNBC TV show Mad Money. Shares climbed 1.6 percent between Tuesday close and Wednesday morning, leaving Apple's stock price at $178. By 12:25PM on Wednesday shares were priced at $182.72, Apple's best opening since August 2008, a month before the onset of a global economic recession. As of approximately 3:12PM on Wednesday, shares had settled down to $182.16.

European Commission antitrust regulators are involved in low-level, exploratory talks with Microsoft and Yahoo regarding their search engine deal, according to a Wednesday report. E-Wolf e1 electric race car could create new class of racing jockeys
There's certainly no shortage of hurdles to cross in building a competitive, all-electric race car, with the weight of the vehicle (and requisite battery pack) being particularly high up on the list. While the folks behind this new E-Wolf e1 vehicle have indeed managed to get the weight down to an impressive 500 kilograms (or just over 1,100 pounds), they've also taken another somewhat unique step to ensure the performance is just right: limit the weight of the driver to 150 pounds. That, combined with a 110kW, quadripolar, liquid-cooled, AC induction motor, apparently allows the car to hit 0 to 100 km/h in less than five seconds, achieve a top speed of 230 km/h, and last a full 300 kilometers on a charge. USB Overdrive 3.0 released!
It came as a mild surprise to me when I woke up today and found that Alessandro Levi Montalcini had released an update to his popular USB Overdrive driver and configuration utility. I have been using this for years to customize my mice and other input devices, and while there have been small bug fixes to the previous version released, the driver has been pretty much unchanged for years and the USB Overdrive website has been forever claiming a new release was in the works.

Blockbuster slips plans to close up to 960 stores by 2011
Rental chain Blockbuster Video will close between 810 and 960 stores by the end of 2010, an SEC filing reveals. While putting a significant number of people out of work, and closing off some markets, the move is expected to add another $50 to $60 million to annual earnings before expenses like taxes and interest. U2 forgo iTunes LP in favor of Blackberry, Benjamins
There was a day when U2 and Apple were buddies. Apple CEO Steve Jobs even bought U2 front man, Bono's NYC apartment off him, rumour claims. There was the U2 iPod. There's still a Product Red nano. But it's all about the dollars, and in the current state of play of the iPhone and Apps market, Canada's Research In Motion dug deep to take a slice of me too with U2, so it appears.
Distorted Loop is reporting that U2 and RIM today introduced their own take on the iTunes LP with the release of a new U2 Mobile App, not for iPhone, but for BlackBerry.
There's nothing covert in the move, with the partners claiming the new app, “invigorates the album experience for the digital age.” Erm, right

Soundsysteme: B&W bringt Zeppelin mini
Bei Bowers & Wilkins scheiden sich die Geister, denn günstig sind die Produkte der britischen Audiospezialisten keinesfalls, der Klang jedoch kann in der Regel voll und ganz überzeugen. Flaggschiff von B&W im iPod-Bereich ist der knapp 600 Euro teure Zeppelin, ein zigarrenförmiges 2.1-Soundsystem.
Im Oktober soll dieser nun mit dem Zeppelin Mini einen kleine Bruder bekommen. VIA outs 1080p-capable NetNote reference netbooks
VIA has recently released its NetNote Turnkey Systems, which are netbook PCs ranging in size from 10.2 to 12.1 inches. Unlike mostnetbooks, however, the NetNotes are said to be capable of flawless 1080p HD video playback thanks to hardware video decoding in the VX855 graphics chipset. The actual CPUs can come from VIA's C7-M ULV or Nano families. The C7-Ms are the simpler processors and can be had with clock speeds that range from 1GHz to 1.6GHz. They consume between 3.5W and 8W of power.

AAPL stock could hit $264 - Cramer
Apple could rise to $264 per share on new accountancy standards regulation, said Jim Cramer during his Mad Money report last night. (Video Below)

iPhone hammers BlackBerry in radiation emission survey
In the smartphone wars Apple's iPhone can claim to be far, far healthier than Research In Motion’s BlackBerry devices, at least in terms of radiation
The latest report from the US Environmental Working Group (EWG) contains radiation rankings for top brand mobile phones, including those from Motorola, BlackBerry and iPhone. And the report makes grim reading for RIM, with handsets from that firm joining those from Motorola and T-Mobile (US) in the top ten worst phones in terms of radiation exposure.

ARM announces 2GHz, low power chip - is this the heart of Apple's tablet?
The old wisdom states that every journey begins with a single step, and it’s possible Apple’s tablet tale opened up yet another chapter on ARM’s morning announcement of its development of a new 2GHz, dual-core version of its Cortex-A9 architecture.

Windows Mobile store can remote-delete apps
The upcoming Windows Marketplace for Mobile will let Microsoft remotely delete apps from Windows Mobile phones without the user's consent, the company said in a presentation as part of its Tech·Ed New Zealand conference. In the event an app is approved but later pulled, Microsoft will automatically wipe the app from every phone that had previously downloaded the app. It's not clear if Microsoft will also automatically refund paid downloads.

New iPod touch gets a speed test, zips right on by
The new generation of the iPod touch, we've been told, is roughly 50 percent faster than the previous iteration. Well, the fine folks over at the iPhone Blog have done a bit of information collecting on just that topic -- to see if Apple's latest is actually that much faster. Both Macworld and TUAW did testing which showed a reduction in boot times from 31 to 19 seconds, web page loading (using the New York Times) went from 34 to 15 seconds, while app launching saw time reductions across the board. Adobe buys Omniture in deal worth $1.8 billion
Adobe has announced a deal to buy Omniture, a web analytics company, in an acquisition valued at $1.8 billion in cash. The price stems from Adobe's agreement to pay $21.50 per share, 45 percent more than Omniture's average closing price for the last 30 days. SAP-Mitgründer Plattner verkauft Aktien im Wert von 240 Millionen Euro
SAP hat mitgeteilt, dass Hasso Plattner, einer der Firmengründer und derzeit Mitglied des Aufsichtsrats, bis Ende 2010 monatlich SAP-Aktien im Wert von 15 Millionen Euro verkaufen will. Das entspricht einem Gesamtvolumen von 240 Millionen Euro. Nach dem aktuellen Kurswert muss er dafür 6,8 Millionen Aktien verkaufen. Could it be? Could it really be? Has Vuzix actually deployed a video eyewear solution that isn't completely unsightly in every imaginable way? Our eyes may be deceiving us, but we're going with "yes, amazingly" for the time being. Sony on Wednesday unveiled a new Walkman line that appears tailored to compete with and beat the new iPod nano in terms of sheer features. The A840 is not only the first Sony player to be almost as thin as its Apple counterpart, at 0.28 inches thick, but has an even larger 2.8-inch display that uses OLED. Research firm calls for new iMacs, MacBooks soon
Apple is likely to release new iMacs and MacBooks "in the next several weeks," claims Wedge Partners. In particular the firm's analysts say they envision an iMac with a "thinner, organic design," including "smoothed or rounded edges." ARM this morning said it as developed a 2GHz, dual-core version of its Cortex-A9 architecture. The latest report from the US Environmental Working Group (EWG) contains radiation rankings for top brand mobile phones, including those from Motorola, BlackBerry and iPhone. And the report makes grim reading for RIM, with handsets from that firm joining those from Motorola and T-Mobile (US) in the top ten worst phones in terms of radiation exposure.

AAPL stock could hit $264 - Cramer
Apple could rise to $264 per share on new accountancy standards regulation, said Jim Cramer during his Mad Money report last night.
“I'm raising my price target on Apple," Cramer said, saying his $200 price target on the company no longer applies if a new accounting change goes into affect.
Following strong lobbying on behalf of Apple, the Financial Services Accounting Board is considering applying a change in its rules, a change which would enable Apple to recognise revenue from its iPhone and Apple TV products during the quarter in which they are sold.
At present, Apple is required to recognise the money it raises on these products over a 24-month period.

Microvision's SHOW WX pico projector 'out soon'
Well, look at that -- Microvision's SHOW WX, the diminutive PicoP-based projector we first laid eyes on at Macworld some nine-plus odd months ago, is finally going to get a release. The device's laser display system (which works by combining light from red, blue, and green lasers) boasts 10 ANSI lumens, a 5000:1 contrast ratio, WVGA (848 x 480) resolution, and never needs focusing. iPhone Classic & 3G: Jailbreak und Unlock der Firmware 3.1
Heute Nacht war es dann endlich wieder soweit. Das DevTeam veröffentlichte das Pwnage Tool 3.1 (für Mac OSX), welches in der Lage ist, das iPhone Classic (2G) und das iPhone 3G zu jailbreaken, indem man sich seine eigene Firmware (ipsw) erstellt.
Da bei dieser Methode das Basebandupdate von 3.0(.1) auf 3.1 umgangen wird, hat man im Anschluss die Möglichkeit via Cydia einen Softwareunlock mit Ultrasn0w zu machen (iPhone 3G).

Bose stellt neues SoundDock vor
Bose hat ein neues portables Lautsprechersystem für iPods und das iPhone vorgestellt. Das SoundDock 10 ersetzt kein bestehendes Gerät, sondern ergänzt die bisher aus dem SoundDock II und SoundDock Portable bestehende Reihe um ein High-End-Modell.
Trotz der kompakten Maße von 22 x 43 x 25 Zentimetern verspricht Bose dank einer neuen Version der verbauten Waveguide-Technologie hervorragend Klang, der sich laut Pressemitteilung durchaus mit vollwertigen Hi-Fi-Systemen messen kann. Kritik am Zune HD: Kein App Store, OLED-Display-Stromverbrauch höher
In ersten Tests gelobt, wird nun zunehmend Kritik am Zune HD laut. Einen App Store wird der iPod-touch-Konkurrent zumindest vorerst nicht bieten, stattdessen wird Microsoft über den Zune Marketplace später kostenlose Applikationen für Twitter und Facebook, sowie Spiele (Project Gotham Racing, Audiosurf) anbieten. iPod touch: Test bestätigt Geschwindigkeitszuwachs
Die amerikanische Macworld belegt in ausführlichen Tests unsere ersten Eindrücke mit dem neuen iPod touch ebenso wie die Aussage Apples, dass das neue Modell bis zu 50 Prozent schneller als die vorige Generation sei.
In der Tabelle finden sich einige Beispiele aus dem direkten Vergleich, Macworld will noch intensivere Vergleichstests, unter anderem auch mit dem aktuellen iPhone 3GS hinterherschieben.
Der Geschwindigkeitszuwachs macht sich aber nicht nur in den Anwendungen selbst bemerkbar. Auch das Starten und Beenden aller Programme geht deutlich flotter vonstatten und auch beim Laden von Webseiten macht sich ein Geschwindigkeitszuwachs bemerkbar.

Creaceed has introduced the latest version of its Mac scanning software for users with digital cameras, Prizmo 1.1. The update features the integration of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, developed by ExperExchange Inc. Amid rumors that Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile's parent company, is considering a takeover bid for the US rival Sprint, sources claim the German company's biggest shareholders are preparing to force changes, according to the Financial Times. Apple Still Have Problems to Provide 250 GB HDs
Already in July we were reporting that Apple was facing a serious shortage of 2.5" HD with 250 GB of storage space to be installed in MacBook and MacBook Pro. As a consequence it massively delayed availability and/or shipment of those models or BTO. as a consequence such models or BTO. If the amount of orders slightly decreased in August, releasing a bit the pressure on Apple, the Back to School season already raised the pressure up. We have learned that Apple is struggling for getting access to a larger volume of 250 GB HDs. this is also affecting the repair channel when the said HD is the faulty unit.
Instead of claiming that HD manufacturers have problems to produce enough units, one could also imagine that Apple did not plan such large volume or order for its MacBook models and did not reserve/stock enough units. So, if you are willing to get a MacBook, you better

MacSpeech has launched a new international version of its speech recognition software, with new localized multi-language support for France, Italy and Germany. The latest MacSpeech Dictate 1.5 International now converts speech to four different languages including English and French, by having the user create a voice profile in their preferred language. Wedge Partners: New iMac with a thinner, organic design coming in weeks
Wedge Partners thinks that Apple is getting set to release redesigned MacBooks and iMacs in the next few weeks.
Wedge sees a redesigned iMac witjh a “thinner, organic design, likely with smoothed or rounded edges. The MacBook redesign “is likely to be limited,” Wedge asserts. Meanwhile, the firm also expects “new, lower price points to drive demand and create a meaningful competitive threat” to coming PCs based on Windows 7 as well as to the booming netbook segment. “We believe these new designs and price points will help Apple achieve a 3 million unit quarter for Macs in [calendar] Q4.”

MS readying 250GB Xbox 360 for Modern Warfare 2
Game developer Infinity Ward tonight ended up confirming Microsoft's plans for a 250GB Xbox 360 Elite by detailing a special bundle for the software team's upcoming shooter. The Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition both includes the added capacity as well as a custom paint scheme for the console, two wireless gamepads and a copy of the game itself. Motorola DEXT promised to Orange UK in early October, free on contract
While the US release date is still in question, Motorola CLIQ's brother across the pond DEXT has gotten itself an official an early October window from UK's exclusive carrier Orange. Best of all, it's expected to be free for those who commit to a two-year, £34.26 per month ($56.43) contract. QuickBooks update adds Snow Leopard support, bug fixes
Intuit has released the QuickBooks 2009 for Mac R8.2 patch, adding Snow Leopard support to the small-business financial software. The update also fixes a series of problems including an issue that prevented customer product codes from completing registration, along with errors that appeared during importation of IIF files with large customer lists. The release also improves stability with print previews or or application of report filters in the Vendor Phone list report.

Sprint buy apparently not on the table for Deutsche Telekom -- yet
Eerily mirroring the situation with T-Mobile in the UK, disgruntled Deutsche Telekom shareholders are apparently now turning their attention to the company's US outpost, now that the British woes are on the fast track to resolution thanks to a tie-up with Orange. Blockbuster plans to part with 960 retail stores by end of 2010
Seriously, Blockbuster can't seem to get a break. In a recent SEC filing, the company identified 18 percent of its retail outlets it deemed unprofitable and announced plans to close up to 960 stores by the end of 2010. That's divided into up to 685 by the end of this year and the remaining 275 the year after, but the filing continues to say that up to 1,560 locations, or 22 percent of its total retail coverage, could end up falling the wayside. So were poring through the Zune HD's various manuals and documentation, like you do, and we noticed this little line in the A/V dock's quick start guide: An HDMI cable (included) and a high-definition TV are required for high-definition viewing. Zune HD and other touch-screen Zune players also work with the composite A/V cable (included). Now, that's pretty interesting, since, you know, there aren't any other touchscreen Zunes out there. Lenovo T400s touch hands-on and impressions
From the outside, the new Lenovo T400s touch doesn't look all that exciting -- unless you're the sort to get excited over ThinkPads, in which case you're probably quite stoked that it looks exactly like the non-touch T400s. WSJ to charge for mobile news in 1-2 months
The Wall Street Journal will start asking those using the mobile version of its news to pay for the privilege, newspaper owner and News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch warned today. Although the company currently offers its phone-optimized version for free, a new plan launching within "one to two months" will ask non-subscribers to any WSJ edition to pay $2 per week for mobile access. Those who pay for either the online or print editions will have the rate cut in half, and only those who subscribe to both will get the mobile format for free.
