Sprint officially announces 17 more WiMAX markets, mostly in Texas
What's that old saying? "Where Clearwire goes, Sprint is sure to follow (and resell)?" Something like that. Anyway, we'd gotten word last week of Clearwire's next planned expansion, and Sprint just followed up with word that it'll also offer service in most of those same cities. Snow Leopard goes Golden Master at build 10A432
According to MacPlus with additional confirmation from MacRumors, Snow Leopard 10A432 has gone Golden Master. While most developers haven't gotten their hands on this 10A432 version, someone has been testing it out at popular benchmarking site Geekbench using a MacBook Pro. The results were taken down for whatever reason but live on in Google's cache.

Zune HD video hands-on: chock-full of media edition
We've witnessed a very interesting development cycle with the Zune HD, getting to witness the software at various early stages of development, instead of a completed device all at once. Our latest glimpse of the player is along the lines of what's been cropping up the last week or so: wild transitions, fun motion graphics and plenty of beautiful media to show it all off with. AT&T's iPhone MMS service nearly ready?
AT&T may almost be ready to deploy MMS messaging for the iPhone, one source suggests. A commentator notes that having upgraded to the iPhone 3.0.1 firmware last week, he suddenly began seeing MMS options where they had previously been taken away. Though present during the iPhone 3.0 beta, the options were ultimately removed for Americans due to AT&T's lack of support.

Safari 4.0.3 released
Safari 4.0.3 just updated. Nothing too exciting to reveal. It will, however, be interesting to see what Apple does with the HTML 5 video tag. Will it allow viewing of Ogg Theora files like Firefox?

Apple 'fesses up to 7200 RPM HDD issues, aims to dispatch a fix forthwith
MacBook Pro owners suffering from 7200 RPM noise pollution and performance issues, Apple has acknowledged your pain and wants you to know that it's working hard to remedy the situation. According to CNET, the problem seems to be restricted to 500GB / 7200 RPM hard drives, with the likely culprit being code that's somehow "causing the drive to sleep during use." Snow Leopard erreicht angeblich "Gold Master"-Status
Angeblich hat Snow Leopard den "Gold Master"-Status erreicht, zumindest gehen momentan entsprechende Berichte durch die Foren und Gerüchteseiten. New Sony lithium ion batteries promise 4x the capacity, 99% recharge in 30 minutes
Sony's certainly had its share of battery problems but, like most battery-makers, it's also doing its part to try to improve things, and it's now announced a new lithium-ion battery that should not only be more stable, but last significantly longer than traditional batteries as well. That's apparently possible in part due to its use of an olivine-type lithium iron phosphate for the cathode material, which should help boost the battery's overall lifespan to four times that of conventional lithium ion batteries, not to mention provide an 80% capacity retention after 2,000 charge-discharge cycles and, perhaps most impressively, a promised 99% recharge in just 30 minutes. TrendMicro has spotted another Domain Naming System (DNS) Trojan targeting Mac systems. The malware, known as OSX/Jahlav-D, masquerades as a MacCinema Installer. Users are prompted to update QuickTime Player by downloading a QuickTimeUpdate.dmg file.

Sprint details proposed $14 million ETF class action settlement
It's a far cry from the $1.2 billion number that was bandied about at one point, but it looks like Sprint could still be taking a fairly sizable hit over those pesky early termination fees, at least if a proposed class action settlement plays out as it seems likely too. Flash Zunes mysteriously disappear from Zune site
Looks like the rising tide of Zune HD news has taken some casualties along the way: Microsoft's official Zune store no longer lists any flash players at all, leaving just the Zune 80 and Zune 120 to hold things down while we wait for the next generation. LG's phone division cooking up netbook integration, 'blooming' keyboards, and a form factor you've never seen
There's no rest for the wicked, the insomniacs, or the phone manufacturers that want to keep climbing the global top-five ladder, and LG seems to have a good grip on that fact as evidenced by some juicy concepts that have turned up in a recent survey. Major music labels are developing their own whole-album music file format after being rebuffed by Apple, a source for a UK newspaper says. Created by EMI, Sony, Universal and Warner, a file format known as CMX would contain both the songs as well as liner notes, attached videos and mobile content. Sling has submitted a refresh of its popular iPhone application(iTunes Link) with some nice extras. Both native DISH support and Widescreen 16:9 (full iPhone) viewing are on the version 1.1 list but something that will get tounges wagging is also being submitted. Sling 1.1 is gearing up to work over 3G networks as long as that network isn't AT&T in the US. Cupertino city chiefs bless Apple's number two campus
Driven by Apple and HP, business is booming in the two firm’s home city of Cupertino, and a grateful city council has made available near half a million square feet of office space in the city for use by the big companies there.
The city council voted 3-2 on July 21 to allocate an additional 483,053 square feet of office space, and this space is exclusively reserved for big companies in Apple’s league.
“We live in a pretty rich city,” councilwoman Dolly Sandoval told Cupertino Courier, “and I don't mean rich as in wealthy, I mean rich with people and active companies. I want to encourage growth of these major companies.”

Apple now offering anti-glare display option with MacBook Pro
Apple has once again begun offering a matte display (antiglare) screen as a build-to-order option on the 15-inch MacBook Pro.
Previously only available as an option on the 17-inch MacBook Pro, Apple has been expected to widen availability of this element.
Customers purchasing a 15-inch MacBook Pro can order one with a matte screen directly from Apple. There’s a cost, though, this sets you back $50 in the US and £40 in the UK.
The matte screen is listed under the configuration options and is available for all three 15-inch MacBook Pro models.

Apple on Tuesday quietly addressed the concerns of some notebook buyers by adding a matte display option for the 15-inch MacBook Pro. Apple now offering anti-glare display option with MacBook Pro
Apple has once again begun offering a matte display (antiglare) screen as a build-to-order option on the 15-inch MacBook Pro.
Previously only available as an option on the 17-inch MacBook Pro, Apple has been expected to widen availability of this element.
Customers purchasing a 15-inch MacBook Pro can order one with a matte screen directly from Apple. There’s a cost, though, this sets you back $50 in the US and £40 in the UK.
The matte screen is listed under the configuration options and is available for all three 15-inch MacBook Pro models.

In a presumed effort to shake up the Japanese wireless industry and provide consumers with 3G-equipped PCs that aren't tied to multi-year contracts, Hewlett-Packard has quietly announced a deal with Japan Communications that will allow its machines to be sold with SIM cards that can be used on a pay-as-you-go basis. Gerüchteköche verhelfen AAPL zu neuem Kursziel
Analysten haben es wahrlich nicht leicht: stapeln sie bei ihren Prognosen zu tief, rutschen die Kurse wie bei einer selbsterfüllenden Prophezeiung in den Keller. Es schien Mitte Juli bereits sachte durch und ab sofort steht die Option eines matten Displays nicht mehr nur dem 17" MacBook Pro zur Wahl. Cupertino city chiefs bless Apple's number two campus
Driven by Apple and HP, business is booming in the two firm’s home city of Cupertino, and a grateful city council has made available near half a million square feet of office space in the city for use by the big companies there.
The city council voted 3-2 on July 21 to allocate an additional 483,053 square feet of office space, and this space is exclusively reserved for big companies in Apple’s league.
“We live in a pretty rich city,” councilwoman Dolly Sandoval told Cupertino Courier, “and I don't mean rich as in wealthy, I mean rich with people and active companies. I want to encourage growth of these major companies.”
Apple and HP are the biggest sales tax producers and employers for the city,

iPhone 3GS: Der Widerstand wird schwächer
Am 4. August befragte TechRepublic eine Gruppe von IT-Managern ob deren Abteilungen das iPhone unterstützen würde. Die 12er Jury hatte sieben IT-Chefs die "nein" und fünf die "ja"sagten. Die Mehrheit der CIO´s weist das iPhone noch zurück, aber der Widerstand wird schwächer. Als 2007 das erste iPhone auf den Markt kam, haben es CIO´s und IT-Abteilungen fast geschlossen abgelehnt. "Not Fit for the Business", war damals die Begründung. Zwei Jahre später, mit der dritten Generation des iPhone auf dem Markt, einem verfügbaren Microsoft Exchange und Third Party Applications beginnen sich viele CIO´s für das iPhone zu erwärmen.

BlackBerry 9700's arranged marriage to T-Mobile leaves its mark, seen in the wild
Sure, it's more or less just a BlackBerry Onyx with a trackpad, but slap a T-Mobile logo on it, and the excitement is all rejuvenated. Such a device was spotted in the wild by the folks at Crackberry, sporting a silver chrome and a leather-clad battery cover. Not much to say here, but with that branding, we're hoping it's not long before heading into the consumer channels. Roku Video player now streaming live HD baseball games from MLB.TV
We've always loved the Roku Video Player, and it's getting even more flexible over time -- in addition to Netflix and Amazon video rentals, the $99 box can now play, pause, and rewind live HD baseball games in 720p from MLB.TV, as well as play archived games from the previous week on demand. You'll have to pay the one-time MLB.TV subscription fee of $35, but that's not terrible, especially if you're an out-of-market fan looking to catch your favorite team without having to trek out to a bar. Now if only the NFL would let anyone but DirecTV carry Sunday Ticket, we'd be all set.

SlingPlayer 1.1 does 3G streaming...not in the US
Sling has submitted a refresh of its popular iPhone application(iTunes Link) with some nice extras. Both native DISH support and Widescreen 16:9 (full iPhone) viewing are on the version 1.1 list but something that will get tounges wagging is also being submitted. Sling 1.1 is gearing up to work over 3G networks as long as that network isn't AT&T in the US. It isn't certain whether you'll be able to take your AT&T-locked iPhone overseas to get your Daily Show fix, but with AT&T's absurd international roaming rates, who'd want to even test this?

Tony Hawk: RIDE makes official US debut on November 17th
Turns out GameStop's October 13th listing for Tony Hawk: RIDE was just a hair off, to the tune of 36 days or so. Activison Blizzard's sent word today that the skating simulator's official North American launch is set for November 17th -- plenty of time to practice your faux ollies before showing your family some virtual board skills over Thanksgiving meals. Additionally, Europe's now official for November 20th, but we already heard that last week. No word on pricing, but across the pond, GAME.co.uk is pushing that £99 / $168 figure pretty hard, and while we're willing to bet that's the official Europe price, we're not convinced that's any indication of what we'll be paying stateside.

More than a few people have been interested in Onkyo's x07 receiver updates, and now the newness has come to the TX-SR707 and TX-NR807 models. The outgoing TX-SR706 and TX-SR806 models are well-specced to begin with, and thankfully Onkyo didn't mess with that formula. Konzertmitschnitte vom iTunes Festival in London
Bereits zum dritten Mal fand in London das "iTunes Live: London Festival" statt, und das Lineup konnte sich durchaus sehen lassen: Unter anderem waren Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, Oasis, La Roux und die Simple Minds mit von der Partie. Die wenigen Eintrittskarten für die einzelnen Auftritte gab es nicht zu kaufen, sondern wurden ausschließlich verlost.
Jeweils sechs ausgewählte Titel aus den einzelnen Live-Sets sind jetzt im iTunes Store erhältlich. Kostenpunkt je nach Band zwischen 4 und 5 Euro, ein Digital Booklet im PDF-Format gibt's obendrauf.
