Insignia NS-HD01 portable HD radio hands-on and impressions
HD Radio has been desperately trying for years to become important in a world where most Americans are perfectly fine with tinny, 96kbps MP3s, and by and large, it's been unsuccessful. More vehicles today arrive with compatibility for a single shining portable media player (Apple's iPod, if you had to ask) than HD Radio, and up until this month, there was no way to easily strap an HD Radio player on your arm when heading out to the gym. Apple employees have very high Jobs satisfation rate
Mr. Jobs has a pretty loyal following amongst Apple employees. Why else would they work those long hours for mediocre pay? Jordan Golson tapped Glassdoor, the salary and employer review site, to see just how much love Apple employees had for fearless leader. They rate Apple and Jobs vs other technology industry companies and their leaders.
It turns out that Jobs gets 91% approval vs. 3% disapproval while AT&T's (who currently are having union issues incidentally) Randall Stephenson gets 30% approval against 35% disapproval. While Jobs leads CEOs in approval, Apple trails behind companies like Google and Adobe overall.

Synology offers Time machine support, iPhone coming

Guess what the Gadget Stork delivered on our doorstep today? A robot baby? No. Better. An actual, real, in-the-teflon HTC Hero. Let's just say this -- it's pretty much the sexiest Android device ever created. We're not going to go into too much detail right now, as we're planning on delivering a full review next week, but we do want to say that this thing has our eyes glazed over like Scrooge McDuck checking out a pile of gold if you know what we mean. Verizon picks up PC770 hybrid 3G modem
Verizon this afternoon added a rare two-in-one modem to its 3G adapters. Novatel's PC770 has a nested design that can either work as an ExpressCard/34 adapter for some modern notebooks or, with an adapter, fits into older systems with PC Card slots. It supports up to EVDO Revision A speeds and uses technology from Novatel that reportedly helps maintain speed during simultaneous two-way traffic.

Ford to swap out spark plugs for lasers, windshields for googly eyes
Ah, yes the future. Remember that? That magical land of flying cars, wearable chariots and Robot Apocalypse? Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 beta adds Windows 7 conveniences
It wasn't too hard to see this one coming, but Microsoft has now officially rolled out the beta version of Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 which, among other things, brings with it a slew of new features that tie into Windows 7. That includes support for full image backup of Windows 7 PCs, Windows 7 libraries support for shared media folders, built-in Windows Search 4, and a number of Windows Media Center enhancements, as well as "better support for netbook computers," although Microsoft doesn't seem to have elaborated too much on that. Verizon limits phone exclusivity deals

IBM steigert Gewinn und erhöht Jahresprognose
IBM hat nach der Verlagerung seines Geschäfts hin zu Software und Services im zweiten Fiskalquartal (bis 30. Invisible flash produces photos without glares
Dilip Krishnan and Rob Fergus at New York University have developed a dark or invisible flash which uses infrared and UV light to take photos in dark places without the nasty glare of a standard flash. Their dark flash camera is made by modifying a flashbulb so that it emits light over a wider range of frequencies and filters out the visible light, and removes filters that prevent the silicon image sensor from detecting IR and UV rays. This flash results in a crisp image which does not have correct color balance, and looks like night vision photography. To correct the colors of the image, the camera also takes a quick color image sans flash right after the dark flash image. Nimbuzz wurde gerade bei den TechChrunch Europe Awards zum "Best Mobile Startup" gekürt. Gewürdigt wurde der gleichnamige "mobile social messenger", welcher Instant Messaging, LBS und VoIP mit effektiven Social Networking-Werkzeugen verbindet. Diesen gibt es als iPhone App, zu der soeben ein Upgrade vorgestellt wurde. Version 1.3.0 fügt der ohnehin schon attraktiven App noch Funktionen hinzu wie: Austausch von Photos, Musik und Videos; Push Notification für eingehende Anrufe und Chat Requests; Location Sharing (allerdings berichten erste Rezensionen auch von einigen Problemen). Überdies hat Nimbuzz einen nativen Mac Client für Desktops vorgestellt. iPhone 3GS macht Luftaufnahmen
Es sieht aus als hätte ein Betrunkener ein Video gedreht, aber die fliegen normalerweise nur aus der Kneipe und nicht über die Straße. Stattdessen ist es ein iPhone 3GS, welches aus einem funkferngesteuerten Modellflugzeug die Landschaft filmt. Treiberupdate für Quadro FX 4800 und GTX 285
Eine wichtige Aktualisierung der Grafiktreiber für die GeForce GTX 285 und Quadro FX 4800 hat NVIDIA veröffentlicht. Der alte Treiber ist nicht vollständig kompatibel mit Mac OS X 10.5.8, dies kann zu Abstürzen führen. Da zu diesem Zeitpunkt ungewiss ist, ob es ein OS X 10.5.9 mit aktualisierten Treibern geben wird, sollten betroffene Anwender selbst aktiv werden und von der Evga-Website die GTX-285-Treiber herunterladen. Vor einiger Zeit begann T-Mobile in Deutschland damit, die in den Verträgen mit Drosselung bei Überschreitung eines gewissen Datenvolumens angekündigten Beschränkungen umzusetzen. Dies war zu Beginn nicht der Fall und die Drosselung wurde nicht umgesetzt. Update behebt Firefox-Sicherheitslücke
Mozilla behebt die kürzlich bekannt gewordene kritische Sicherheitslücke in Firefox mit dem Update auf Firefox 3.5.1. Für die Intel-optimierten Firefox-Builds gibt es derzeit neben einer 3.6a nur die “alte” 3.5. Amazon drops $200 replacement fee for cracked Kindle screens
In a little bit of about face, Amazon's nixed its hefty $200 charge to replace cracked Kindle screens, and now says it will do so for free. The change comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed by a Kindle owner, who claims that the cover designed for the Kindle by Amazon caused a crack in the screen where it attaches to the device. Critical Update for the Quadro FX 4800 and GTX 285
Nvidia (and those who have a Geforce GTX 285 or Quadro FX 4800) has discovered a major bug with it's recent video cards drivers and the new Mac OS X 10.5.8 kernel. It causes crashes from which is is impossible to escape. It is strongly recommended that those with these cards update their drivers as soon as possible.

UK film critic doesn't understand using HDTV to watch old movies, why kids are on his lawn

This time it's Peter Bradshaw, film critic for Guardian.co.uk, claiming Humphrey Bogart would have any cameraman approximating a "high definition" effect thrown off the set. Blu-ray celebrates 91 percent sales increase for first half of 2009
Remember back in May when Blu-ray sales were reportedly up 72 percent for 2009? Turns out the high definition disc business is doing even better than that.
